I took my elderly parents for dinner a few weeks ago. The service its is not up to par. The waitress serving us, was too busy chatting with the other employees to notice when we were calling for her. After we placed our order she sat down at the counter to eat. I imagine this was her break. No one else came to our table while she was on break. The food also was not up to par. One dish was good. The roast pork and yucca was lousy. I then proceeded to order a single piece of grilled flank steak in lieu of the pork and yucca. They advised me they could not sell it to me unless they charge for the entire plate. I reluctantly ordered it because I was hungry since I did not eat what I originally order (roast pork yucca). He happily let us. BUT, when we got to the bar area, the male employee there (bartender? Waiter?) gave us ATTITUDE. We started to order 3 sides and 2 mains-for one of the mains, we weren't sure if the first waiter put it in before we asked him to switch seats. Idk who you're talking about or where you sat" We explained we didn't get his name, but he worked the back corner and pointed to the area. He started to sass us and said idk idk idk! My boyfriend has been wanting to come to this place for a while so we decided to give it a shot last night. I wasn't impressed. I was expecting Cuban food but it was nothing like I thought it would be. We shared the mac chicharrón for an app and it tasted like boxed Mac n cheese. I got the camarones Cienfuegos with rice and beans. The rice was extremely hard (nothing like Cuban rice) and the shrimp werent even cleaned out which was gross. The only thing I did enjoy was my capirinah drink. The manager was very welcoming and friendly, but the staff could be a little more attentive. After we got our food they never came back to check on us, but they were also a little busy so I'll assume that's why. This Place is open 24 hours so it's a cool place to go after a night out on the town. But if you're coming for some authentic food, this isn't your place. read more

This place is open 24/7!!!! That's the first good thing about it. Secondly, the drinks are strong. Of course comes with NYC prices but you get your moneys worth drink wise so I have no complaints. I see other folks used this as a factor in their rating. I ordered a pitcher of sangria for $36, its a good deal as other places want $40 and up. The sangria was definitely strong and very well made. The vibe is more of a diner setting. Its comfortable, low lighting and very relaxing. When I was there it was super busy but they had enough staff on hand that we never were left waiting for service. I ordered the mac with chrurrasco was so delicious. I wish the plate would be bigger only because i wanted more!!!! For entrees ordered the lomo saltado was filling and the meat super juicy and flavorful. I wanted seconds!!! Also, got the trio tacos with beef. We asked for pico de gallo on the side and no onions and they complied with the request to the letter. Many places choose to ignore when we ask them not to include onions in dishes that come with. I found that service was on point and they didnt disappoint, followed instructions clearly. They do offer happy hour with $6/$7 drinks (half price) until 7PM. We have been longtime fans of this place and order takeout frequently - like we did last night thru here around 530pm, and we usualky order their cuban sandwiches because they have been usually great Not sure if their chef has changed, but last night i bit into my cuban sandwich and into a hard round object as in attached pictures - both sides of object - about an inch long and 1/2 inch wide and solid bone - that aside from making me sick to my stomach with a direct trip to the bathroom - also hurt the tooth i bit into it with. This is too big of an object for anyone to have missed - you would have felt it when you pressed the sandwich. This is not accepatable even from a place we have loved and always tip for takeout as we if we were eating in the restaurant. The best Cuban sandwich I have ever had was here and I travel from Florida to New York just to eat it. Everything here is busin. I could eat the entire menu. Bring everyone you know. Oh so this is the spot! After dancing (but not the young annoying post drink partiers), this is a great place to go. Who doesn't like hearty Cuban food? I would be honest, I never tried their entrees. Why? Well, the sides are phenomenal. I got all the sides: Brussels Sprouts with queso fresco: Amazing! Coppelia can definitely be a bit hit or miss. I've had times where I had an amazing time with amazing food, and then I've had times where I was accused of lying about being told me and my friend were allowed to combine two tables (which we were told after we asked a server). However, Coppelia will always have a special place in my heart. With some of the best nachos I've ever had in my life, a fun, casual Cuban-diner feel, and consistently great, Cuban-fusion food, amazing drinks (the frozen margs ) I've been coming back for years, and definitely will continue to do so. I've been coming to coppelia for years and it's always been a great time. Just left tonight and I had to immediately do a review. It was 2 am and there was a 20-30 min wait bc of how busy it was but we sat at the bar and was immediately served. Michael and umberto were extremely attentive and took our orders very quickly. They were busy but still made time for us whenever we needed. The food was amazing and the vibe was great. I came here with three girlfriends after a visit to the Whitney. It was definitely packed on a Saturday night, but after about a 15 or 20 minute wait, we were seated in the back. This place is definitely loud, but it has a fun atmosphere and great waiters. We all had a challenge picking what to eat. Nice touch that they serve breakfast all day - and 24/7! I ultimately went for the Tacos Campechanos, whcih included skirt steak, chorizo, chicharron, and salsa verde onions. It was on the heavier side, but it was delicious and satisfying after a long day ($18). Everyone's dish also came with a generous side of rice and beans. For the table, we also split the Havana (kale) salad, which was actually quite satisfying for a kale salad, The side of plantains was about 8 pieces; they didn't blow me away, but they seemed required for this meal. I came here for lunch recently, and it's still a decent spot. I got some sort of cuban fried rice.. damn, what was it called again? Anyway, I got a lunch special and I think it was like $13.50 or something before tax. It was decent, though not a very large portion. I also go a flan, which was really nice, and I think cost about $7. I think I might come back here in the future just for the flan, since it's one of my favorite desserts, and because I think these guys do it well. Coppelia's customer service is also suspect. In true New York fashion, late night food is a must. I came here with a girlfriend around 1am and we had a great time. We got seated quite quickly but the restaurant was packed. We ordered a Jarrito and a coke and steak. In my opinion, the steak was good, however the rice had no flavor. I would come here again but order something different. It's a good late night spot, open 24hrs, the vibes are bustling and the food is pretty good considering. I'm rating 4 out of 5 stars for the food but it's more like 4.5 for overall experience. This was the last restaurant I dined out at pre-covid. It was a awful memory I haven't been able to let go of - of the waitress impatiently telling me a flat "NO" when I asked if we can ask for the chef to just be careful with cross-contamination with gluten if possible (I made the mistake of believing some prior online reviews somewhere that they had gluten-free options - I now spend even MORE time cross-referencing and calling restaurants if I ever want to dine out). I've come to known that celiac is mostly disregarded in Manhattan unless you're paying $100+ a person, but sometimes chefs have sympathy and are willing to try. I don't ask for guarantees here, but just that if they could try. And then the older gentleman sitting next to us loudly asking the waitress to switch his seat because he doesn't want to be cross-contaminated with Asians. And the waitress swapped his seat. I can't recall much of the food I ordered, one because I knew it wasn't safe and I ordered it out of social politeness (I was there with a former colleague) and also I left the place as fast as I could as we wrapped up the conversation. I love NYC. But the extreme inequity here breaks my heart. And in this case I almost feel as if it is a unrequited love as exemplified by Coppelia. Though this review likely won't make a difference in behaviors towards celiacs or Asian, I thought it's important to share this experience with the hopes that for anyone reading this, the next time you meet someone asking for gluten-free, please don't roll your eyes unless you'd do the same with someone with a visible disability (If you understand the implication of celiac, the immflamuation from gluten leads to life-long ailments including heart disease, liver/kidney damage, osteoporosis, malnutrition, etc.). It is a very serious disease leading typically to cancer, but is typically taken as a dietary preference and fad by most restaurants in Manhattan. (I specify Manhattan, because that is not the case in London, Milan, Rome, Boston, Burlington, Norwich, Lebanon, the list goes on) And if you do meet someone who is visibly racist against Asians, or any other race, to the point of public disrespect, SAY SOMETHING. Politely educate them of their bias - because those who are discriminated against often times won't be listened to by the perpetrator. read more

There's literally no Cuban food anywhere near where I live, which sucks. I found Coppelia on Yelp while on vacation and was immediately interested. I don't generally approve of restaurant reviews made by people who've only ordered delivery--especially through third parties--as it doesn't seem fair to base judgment on so many factors beyond the restaurant's control. But if my experience with the grubhub delivery from Coppelia is any indication, even knocking off whatever percentage, the restaurant is excellent (and btw, the delivery service was also just fine). We ordered a small meal of a Cuban sandwich, moros, and a side salad. The sandwich was excellent (although somewhat unusually sliced the long way) - crispy, briny, savory, just the way it should be. The moros were just **** amazing (I wish I'd ordered three times the amount; I could eat that every day, and more than once). The side salad was less impressive; I hadn't known it was going to be kale, which I don't particularly love raw. That is of course entirely my fault, but even so, the salad was pretty spartan, and seemingly undressed...I had to scare up some lemon & olive oil to brighten it. I wouldn't order the salad again, but the sandwich and moros ... I'm craving more. PS: Whenever possible, which is most of the time, I order directly from restaurants and pick up the order in person.
