The restaurant is small and the staff is friendly. We sat on the patio, and it was a perfect day weather wise. We ordered four small plates and it was more than enough to fill two people. We ordered the arugula salad, beets small plate, crispy shrimp, and the duck. Everything was amazing and veggie/herb forward with the flavors being well balanced. We enjoyed every dish and look forward to coming again.

This restaurant had been on my wishlist since we did not have time to visit last time we were in the area. Despite staying downtown, we prefer to patronize less touristy places and this was a great choice! Just a few miles away, this cozy busy restaurant earns its ongoing popularity. Wednesday offers $5 off a glass of wine which was a pleasant surprise. We were fortunate to find a last minute reservation and happily sat at the bar. California pinot noir and sauvignon blanc were very good and we appreciated the different vineyard selection. We decided to split our meal: Bang bang shrimp, different presentation with a spicy aioli smear on the plate which was a nice complement to the fried shrimp Roasted broccolini was tasty and not overcooked . Again, aoli requested on the side. Maybe it is a regional preference for aoli on so many items? House made potato and French fries were both very yummy Brussel sprouts were delicious, nice garlic chili type of glaze. Feta, meh addition for me Trout entree was fresh and we loved the red peas and sautéed greens. Glad we asked for the sauce on the side. Tomato coconut flavor was unappealing. Bartender and service were spot on, highly recommend!

Copper Crown proves why Asheville's dining scene shines. Our server, Brenton, was nothing short of magnificent--his spot-on suggestions and warm hospitality made the night feel like we were dining with an old friend who just happens to have impeccable taste. Huge kudos to him and the entire staff, who kept the evening seamless from start to finish. The potato gnocchi is an absolute must--pillowy, rich, and perfectly balanced. The small plate bison also stole the show, bold yet refined. Honestly, not a single dish missed the mark--some simply stood taller than others. Copper Crown is the kind of place where you leave full, happy, and already planning your next visit.

We visited this restaurant at the recommendation of a friend who lives in the Asheville area, as we do not. I was surprised at how small the restaurant is, which explains the need for reservations. With such creative and delicious fare, I'm sure they stay so busy! We dined on the patio where the weather was perfect and our server was excellent. We started with small plates of scallops and beef cheeks. The scallops were sweet and succulent and seared to perfection. The red grits were creamy and excellent, and I even ate the beets! I am not normally a beet-eater. The beef cheeks were incredibly melt-in-your-mouth tender. It was gently seasoned, and served over creamy polenta. The trout was seared perfectly, and covered with purple kale. The kale was a bit salty, but I believe that was intentional to accent the fish. Our friend said his burger was juicy and delicious. He said the special sauce and bacon were excellent. My husband had the crab cakes which were more Maryland style and were meaty and luscious. We went home with flan covered with macerated strawberries. Creamy and delicious.

Don't wait four years like we did to check out Copper Crown! Their drink menu is impressive and reasonably-priced for Asheville. We all started with cocktails - some from the drink menu and other specific requests. The menu offered something for everyone including gluten and dairy-free options. The seafood was fresh and pork schnitzel generous and perfectly prepared. They don't have a huge dining room but the raised patio seating also looks appealing for a future visit. The location has never drawn us in but we can't wait to return.

This place is absolutely phenomenal! We didn't have reservations but we showed up as they were opening and were able to get a table on the patio. The staff was the best in the world, so nice, gave wonderful recommendations. My boyfriend and I split a handful of small plates and a dessert and all of it was incredible. The meatballs were our favorite. The dessert was also the best we had on our trip to the area, it was a chocolate mousse thing, but I can't recall the name. Highly recommended you stop here!

We came early and first up was the Brussels sprouts. After all the wonderful things said, we HAD to try the Brussels sprouts! Hubster was decidedly not enthusiastic about the thought, but, good for him, they arrived and he tried them. The reason they are so good is they are "candied". They're made with a sugar-based syrup. They are so good, not only did my Brussels sprouts avoidant husband eat more than half the dish, he also did not bat an eye at the sprinkles of feta cheese (another of his less-than-favorite foods)! Next we tried the Bison and the scallops. Bison was smoky and delicious. The scallops were perfectly seared. We picked our plates clean! For dessert we got the chocolate pot du creme and the flan. The chocolate was dense and creamy, almost like a ganache and the flan was a little disappointing. When we come back, definitely more chocolate for me and we will try something different. Service felt a bit rushed, but, all in all, I can definitely see us coming back!

The food is very good. The restaurant is small, but does have some outdoor seating as well. The staff is nice. Parking is good. Definitely recommend!

Pork Schnitzel. Loved it all but the collard greens, not a fan, very salty.

Very nice, cozy restaurant! Good variety of drinks and food. We ate at the bar and the service was very attentive. Loved the Brussels. Potato Gnocchi was good too and very unique. Pork Schnitzel and au gratin potatoes with it were delicious. Did not enjoy the collard greens though. Overall, would definitely go back!

Copper Crown never does me wrong. Tucked away from the tourist spots, it consistently delivers solid, well-seasoned food. Don't skip the blackened NC catfish with andouille jambalaya, collard greens, and honey-Tabasco butter--it's incredible and my go-to. The Brussels sprouts are a must appetizer and the burger never disappoints either. As I'm writing this I'm craving it all! Service is fast yet laid-back, and the ambiance is quaint and cozy. Perfect for an elevated casual dinner. Always love coming here!

Copper Crown was our favorite and best dinner in Asheville! It's a little away from the main downtown area, but it's a super quick drive! It's so worth it too! My dad and I both got the flank iron steaks, while my husband and my mom shared the pan seared scallops and the blackened catfish. Everything was SO delicious and well made & paired! The sauces on the steak and potatoes were unreal! Plus, we got a very good red wine from the Côtes du Rhône that everyone enjoyed thoroughly. The portion sizes were decent too. The ambience was super cozy and cute. I loved how quaint of a spot it was and it felt really local too. The service was top notch. They were super communicative ahead of the reservation and they were very attentive during dinner. Be sure to make a reservation in advance and check out this amazing restaurant in the Asheville area!

Oh my Gosh, I was so excited to come here for the small plates & Copper Crown did NOT disappoint! Everything was great & they even gave me a birthday dessert Small, intimate restaurant with extremely kind, knowledgeable & attentive staff. Perfect cooked inside. - Sautéed Shrimp in Garlic Brown Butter on top of Rice Middlins- Insanely rich - Teres Major Steak - Perfectly cooked to our requested rare-med rare. I LOVED the green beans! I found Chestnut on Yelp and decided to wander in. The space has this elevated modern rustic vibe with a southern twist and a little bit of sass. They even sell shirts that say neither hoity nor toity, which cracked me up. Honestly, the atmosphere was great, but our waitress was the real star. She was absolutely phenomenal and looked after us perfectly. My palate was pretty fried, so I started with a Bloody Mary to wake up. Truth be told, it was just okay. The house mix had an odd flavor that nobody at the table could quite identify, and it seriously lacked spice. It was just kinda bland. I noticed a bottle of Firewalker hot sauce on the table, and splashing that in helped a little bit. After that, I transitioned to a mimosa. You really cannot mess up a mimosa too much, and it was a solid, reliable second drink. For the main event, I ordered the southern chicken and waffles. This came with a fried chicken breast sitting on golden malted waffles, smothered in sausage gravy, and drizzled with chipotle honey. It was a really great dish. The kitchen did a solid job with the fry on the chicken, and the gravy had a nice flavor. It leaned a little on the sweet side because of the honey, but it was not totally overdone. The real sleeper hit of the morning, though, was the side of cheesy grits. Those grits were absolute heaven. They were incredibly creamy and perfectly seasoned. If you go, you have to order them. Chestnut is in a great location, and despite the weak Bloody Mary, it was a stellar visit.

Worth Planning Your Asheville Trip Around…read more As a Bay Area foodie, navigating around San Francisco's incredible restaurant scene taught me to appreciate thoughtful cooking, quality ingredients, and genuine hospitality. Chestnut had been on my Asheville dining list long before I arrived, and after spending several days exploring Boone, Blowing Rock, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, I made it my dinner splurge before heading home. It absolutely delivered. A quick tip: skip the hunt for street parking and head straight to the garage across the street. The first hour is free, and downtown Asheville can be congested with both vehicle and foot traffic. I arrived around 5:30 without a reservation and was warmly greeted by the hostess, who offered me a table or a seat at the bar. Asheville was surprisingly hot and humid compared to the cool mountain weather I'd been enjoying, so the air-conditioned dining room was an easy choice over the sidewalk patio. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Fresh flowers, warm lighting, elegant stone countertops, comfortable booths, tables, and bar seating create an atmosphere that feels polished without being stuffy. What stood out most was the mix of guests. There were locals greeting staff by name, couples enjoying date night, families with children, and older guests gathering with friends. It felt welcoming and comfortable for everyone. As a solo diner, the bar was the perfect choice. I enjoyed all the energy of the restaurant while still having a peaceful dining experience. I started with a glass of Brut Rosé from Spain. Crisp, refreshing, and beautifully balanced, it was the perfect way to settle in after a warm afternoon. Then came the Lobster Bisque. As someone who has made lobster bisque from scratch, I know the work that goes into creating a great one. Chestnut's version, made with Oak & Grist Reserve Cream and finished with fresh chives, was outstanding. Rich, silky, velvety, and loaded with tender pieces of lobster. If I'm being incredibly picky, I would have enjoyed just a touch more sherry, but that's purely personal preference. The smaller serving vessel kept the bisque hot from first spoonful to last, which I appreciated. My only complaint was that I wanted a larger serving because it was that good. For my entrée, I ordered the 4-ounce Petite Filet. The steak arrived cooked a perfect medium rare with excellent flavor and texture. It was served with butter-whipped mashed potatoes, haricot verts, a crisp potato gaufrette, red wine demi-glace, and chive butter. Every component was thoughtfully prepared. The demi-glace added richness without overwhelming the beef, while the potato gaufrette provided a delicate crunch. My only minor critique was that the plate could have been served a bit hotter, but the quality of the food more than made up for it. One of the highlights of the evening was the service. Taylor, part of the management team, was personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. After my sparkling wine, he suggested a half-glass pour of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir since I was driving. Excellent recommendation. The wine was elegant, earthy, and beautifully balanced, pairing perfectly with the filet. As the evening progressed, the restaurant filled quickly. Watching the staff greet regulars by name and efficiently manage the growing crowd spoke volumes about how well-run the restaurant is. You could tell many guests were repeat customers, which is always a good sign. After dinner, I attempted to walk off my meal through downtown Asheville, but the summer heat quickly convinced me to head back to my hotel. I left full, happy, and already thinking about that lobster bisque. For a Bay Area foodie who plans entire trips around memorable meals, Chestnut exceeded expectations. Great food, thoughtful service, an inviting atmosphere, and a dining experience that felt special without trying too hard. If you're visiting Asheville, put Chestnut on your list. Life is too short for mediocre meals, and this one is worth making time for.
