My sister-in-law and brfother-in-law were in town and my husband and I took them to lunch at the Copper Door. Seating was quick and service was good. I ordered the Italian flatbread sandwich which came with a small salad. Good, but not exceptional. The meat was extremely salty and it was average. My husband ordered French Onion Soup and I had a taste. The recipe I use for French Onion Soup has much more flavor. I thought the soup was bland. He ate half the grilled cheese...I didn't ask why. The waitress never brought bread to the table, which I thought was odd because my brother in law ordered the chopped salad...bring it mixed, he told the waitress. He really wanted Russian dressing or one other common dressing, which they didn't have. He sent her back with it because she didn't bring it mixed with extra dressing as he requested, He had tomato basil soup with it. My sister in law had the soup as well, along with the tenderloin sliders. For the price of the sliders, one would think something else would come with it...perhaps a small salad, fries, etc. The plate was very small. They each ordered a Coke and the glass was filled with so much ice that there was probably 3 oz. of soda in the glass. The desserts were very expensive, but very good. One had a chocolate cake and my sister in law and I split the bananas foster dessert. We wish the waitress had come back to check on us once the meals were served, but it was quite awhile before she returned to the table. The atmosphere and ambience were great...very comfortable and very pretty. I will try it one more time, but they'll have to step it up a bit to come close to BVI. read more

When we moved to Amherst NH we read an awful review of this restaurant and almost avoided trying it. We look for casual dining with consistently good food and a great martini. After eating there numerous times, I want to set the record straight: Great drinks, excellent bar food, polite and attentive service, and great environment, varied by section and your mood for dining. I love to sit at the bar with my husband or relax in The Roost for intimate afternoon chats with a friend. Enjoy! read more

I have now eaten here twice over a 6 month period and the noise level has gotten better but the food quality still is not as good as it could be. From the looks of how busy it was Im sure I may be too picky but for an avg meal for 2 at over $100 I expect a lot more. read more

Great place for a special occasion. The steaks are perfect and the wine list is great as well. Our server was attentive and kind, which made the experience that much better. The building is beautiful and l was pleased to find out it's a green structure. Went there last Saturday for an anniversary dinner. When I made the reservation they did ask me whether this was for a special occasion, so they had it noted it was for our anniversary. We arrived early for our reservation and were seated promptly. Our server came over and took our drink order, was very helpful for suggestion of beers for my husband. They had a prime rib dinner on their specials menu that I was eyeing, so I asked our server whether she would recommend this or the filet mignon, she said she was a prime rib girl, and so am I, so I decided to go with it. It was dijon crusted, so I was worried about this as I like my meat plain, but figured that was on the outside, and the server stated as such. I substituted asparagus for the standard vegetable that I don't recall. My husband had the ahi tuna, rare as I am told it should be cooked (I like mine cooked through). The bread they serve is delicious, it has a garlic topping in the middle of your own round loaf of bread, and is served with a side of butter. Our meals arrived, they were a little colder than normal, maybe sat for a few before picked up and delivered? In any case, the prime rib was tender and flavorful, but the dijon crusting was too flavorful for me, so I ate the middle of the prime rib. My husband's ahi tuna was cooked perfectly, very flavorful. For dessert we ordered the bananas foster - YYUUMM! It came with a cookie accent decorated with 'Happy Anniversary'. Here's the service that separates a good restaurant from the great. During our meal when our server came to ask us how our meal was, I mentioned the dijon was too flavorful, not as a complaint, just as feedback since we had discussed that when I was deciding. When she brought our bill, she told me the prime rib meal was removed form our bill as she siggested it and I did not like it. I explained that I did like the prime rib, ate the interior with no problem, it was only the outside, but that did not matter to them. After she left, the manager cam by our table to apologize and explain if they did not get the meal right, they did not expect us to pay. Again, nothing we had expected, and I told him so, and we expressed we would be back to try other meals in the future. When the server brought our check back after running through our credit card, she also brought as a gift certificate from the manager for our next visit. I have had prior experiences at some high end restaurants where my meal arrived not as expected, and I have had managers come to the table to tell me I, the customer, was wrong (and I had not complained, just sent the steak back to be cooked more), so this experience was a welcome gesture. Recently went to The Copper Door with the mrs. We sat at the bar and found the service excellent. An "at-a-boy" to Patrick. He's a pro. We split fried calamari and mussels. Both were excellent. I had an excellent burger and my wife had the sirloin spring rolls,which she didn't like. But,that doesn't mean they were bad . All in all,a good take. read more

I've dined here about a dozen or so times since they opened, and have had both lunch and dinner service. The atmosphere is nice aside from the fact that it is considerably loud and noisy. The service has been average, and I'd say the same for the food. I've always been left feeling underwhelmed and slightly disappointed. It's CJ's or T-Bones quality food at inflated prices (all the same owner). If you want to spend the same and have a much better meal nearby, head down to TekNique just down the street. read more

Ok, this is the second time I've been to copper door. I like the atmosphere. You walk in and it is a big open space. Kind of like walking into a barn. This may not be for everyone. If you are looking for a more intimate setting you may not like this set up. Anyway, both times the service was good. But, that's about it. The food is definitely not up to par. I don't think they have the most experienced chefs/cooks. The firs time I had the pork tenderloin. Tenderloin means it's suppose to be the best cut of pork and very tender. This was not the case. It may have been overcooked. It tasted very dry. Not juicy at all. When i cook prok chops at home they are juicy and tender. This pork was dry and tough. No taste to it. When I tried to cut into it was so hard that I had to apply all the strength I had while using a sawing motion to try to saw through it! I was apply so much pressure it almost flew off the table. The people in my party noticed this and commented that it must be a tough piece of meat to which I agreed. It was like a hockey puck. I probably should have returned it and ordered something else but I didn't want to cause unpleasantness at my table. I did ask the server if he had a sharper knife to see if he got the hint. But no. The second time was tonight and this time I opted for the fall special chicken roulade. Again, very disappointing. The chicken was overcooked, tough and very salty. I don't eat salt so to me it was uneatable. If you like salty food you may like the salty taste but you probably won't like the dryness and toughness. Well, I don't think I;ll be going back for a third and I do't think I'll be recommeding it to my friends. It's unfortunate because I do like the atmosphere. .They need to get some cooks who know how to cook. read more

The menu selection wasn't large and the restaurant was as noisy as a subway station; so much so that we needed to yell across the table in order for our table-mates to hear us. The ambiance felt a bit cool to me, very California corporate with large wrap around booths and a gas fireplace. This isn't a place I'd go to for a romantic dinner for two. We had a long wait for our food to arrive though it was delivered to the table all together and was hot and tasted freshly made. My husband was disappointed in the size of his meal; at $28 a plate he was expecting more than an appetizer portion of scallops. My personal sized pizza was good enough though it would have been wonderful if it was wood fired instead of just "stone oven" pizza. The pricing at the Copper Door makes it a special occasion only place for us and we'll consider it for a birthday or other family celebration but only if the noise issue is addressed. read more

A beautiful restaurant- one of my favorite places for date night or to meet friends. We usually sit at a table/booth in the bar area and have always been very happy with the service. If you want a quieter, more private dining experience, I recommend eating in the dining room towards the back right. I have had lunch there and dinners and the ambiance is really something like no other restaurant in this area. I have read mixed reviews about the food and I would say this- the bar bites menu is delicious! The salads are also very good. In terms of the higher priced, fancier fare, I have had only one experience with it and I might agree that you could be disappointed if you pay that much for a meal. So, maybe stick to Michael Timothys or that type of speciality restaurant for that kind of fare. What Copper Door does do an excellent job of is appetizers, simple, less expensive meals like their amazing grilled cheese and tomato soup (8.50 for an entire meal- where else can you eat that well that inexpensively?) The pizzas- delicious- fresh ingredients- wood fired pizza and there is always plenty to take home. Desserts? Woooooo! Yum! Have tried a few and they were amazing- especially the Bananas foster- particularly delicious. The garlic monkey bread before the meal is also something they are famous for , rightly so. The service is always excellent. It is one of the few restaurants that you can get a good cup of coffee at too- extremely important to me. read more

My wife and I were out yesterday taking in the beautiful colors of Fall in southern New Hampshire. We were on our way to Manchester to grab some lunch when we happened to pass by the Copper Door. Having read about it previously (I can't remember where) , we decided to make a quick detour and give it a try. First, I must explain that we happened upon this place at about 1:00 PM and didn't leave until nearly 4:00 PM. An off hour for most restaurants so it was quiet and not at all crowded. We sat at the bar where bar manager Patrick waited on us hand and foot and made suggestions that were simply delicious. We each started with a cup of haddock chowder which is given to bar patrons at no cost during the month of October. The haddock is swimming in a light broth chock full of seasonal herbs and spices with fresh peas and potatoes. Delicious and perfect for this time of year. Next we ordered the charcuterie/cheese board which came with enough delights to fill 2 people. We next shared a Fall Pizza comprised of carmelized onions, Bosc pear slices, brie and mozzarella cheese, sage and roasted garlic cream. Sounds like a weird combination but man was it good!! We really didn't have room for dessert but when the food is this good you have to figure that the desserts will not disappoint. Bar manager Patrick described their special fall cupcake dessert and along with an espresso we put the finishing touches on a completely unexpected great meal. The cupcake was a spiced pumpkin cake filled with pumpkin filling with an orange frosting nestled into a praline shell. Not too sweet but very satisfying and again quite in tune with the season. We literally rolled out of there with full stomachs and big smiles on our faces. The decor is very modern with high open spaces and wonderful mood lighting. I would suspect that the noise level can be quite high when the restaurant is full although when I was there you could enjoy the background music and it was really quite quiet. Living in Bedford, there has been a lot of talk about The Copper Door. I have heard mixed reviews and waited a few weeks for the restaurant to get up and running before trying it! Being an optimistic, positive person, I knew it would be wonderful! What a disappointment! We waited over an hour and a half in a very noisy, limited seating lounge area. It was chaotic to say the least! Once seated for dinner, the service was very slow. The food was not good! Our table had tasteless scallops, dry salmon, and a so-so steak! On the plates were tasteless veggies--cold Swiss chard, bland, cold Quinoa, the creamed spinach tasted like out of a can or the freezer, and the side of mashed potato ordered was cold and pasty. Nothing had any flavor! The only redeeming part of the meal was the Crème Brulee dessert--a very large dinner tab to only enjoy dessert! The Copper Door is very much overrated and way overpriced! It is such a shame that something that could be wonderful is just NOT--hard to believe it is a relative of T Bones and Cactus Jack's! Hoping the management, staff, and particularly the chefs, will take more pride in what they are doing and turn the restaurant around. If and when I hear great things about the Copper Door, I will look forward to coming back with as much anticipation and excitement as I did my first visit! I read all the reviews of the Copper Door before going there because I was anxious to eat there, having heard all about the restaurant when it was being built. The reviews were mostly bad and I was so disappointed to hear that, but I still wanted to try it for myself and convinced my husband that we should go last night. I feel the decor, service and food were absolutely excellent!!! I don't know what people's complaints are about; we got the beet salad, spinach salad, steak, and salmon. Everything was delicious. My husband always wants dessert and insisted we get TWO desserts. These were delicious as well; the banana's foster and carrot cupcake with cinnamon whipped cream. The coffee and tea was also excellent. We arrived at 7pm and the place was packed; we didn't have reservations since they only take them for parties of 6 or more. We were facing a 2 hour wait so chose to grab two seats at a shared butcher block table in the bar area, where the full menu is available. Almost immediately two women sitting across from us started up a conversation which we found enjoyable (there were 6 other people at the table, which didn't seem to cause a problem with the four of us talking to each other). The only complaint we both have, and many other reviewers have said the same thing, is that it is TOO LOUD (the reason I gave it 4 stars). I hope the owner will decide to do something about it like adding fabric and padding on windows or floors. I am planning a dinner out with 2 other couples and I am not going to suggest Copper Door for that reason alone. I don't find it relaxing to be in a group of 6 people out to dinner and having to shout to have a conversation. After our dinner, we walked over to the dining room side, and found it was just as loud. One other comment, I found it a nice touch that there was a big coat area near the front door so that we could hang our coats, especially since we sat on low stools so there wasn't a chair-back that we could have hung our coats over. read more

Went there recently with my wife for a celebration dinner. We did not have a reservation so we rolled the dice on a Saturday night and fortunately got in after a short wait. Marta was our server who did a terrific job - 5 star for service. Appetizer (chicken and waffle) was the best part of meal. Our entrees were decent, but unfortunately one of the sides was very under cooked. We did mention it so the kitchen would be aware. The server gave us dessert free (which we were not looking for). That was a nice surprise. The one other thing worth mentioning here is the noise level in the dining room. It was at a near sports-bar sound level. They do have a bar/lounge area, which is very nice, but we were on the complete opposite side of restaurant. The heavy noise was all coming from the dining area. So all that to say, if you are looking for a quite experience, you may not find it here. To summarize, service was A+, food was a B and atmosphere was a C. read more

Perfect from beginning to end and then some. We had dinner reservations for 6:30PM and were seated promptly. We were pleasantly surprised that our server was Kristen. It was the last night my daughter and son-in-law were in town and we wanted a leisurely pace. Kristen made sure that was the case. We placed our drink order and requested a Charcuterie & Cheese appetizer for the table. We ordered a bottle of wine to be opened and breathe. About halfway through our drinks Kristen checked back in to see if we wanted to order. Our meals were delicious and cooked to perfection. My husband ordered the crab encrusted rib eye which was one of the specials. He was able to switch out the vegetable as he is not a fan of asparagus. We all finished our meals to the best of our ability and asked for the remainder of my husband and daughters meals to be boxed up. We ordered coffee and dessert and asked for the check. Kristen informed us that our doggie bag had been disposed of by accident so the kitchen was preparing another 16 oz crab encrusted rib eye to go and she needed 5 more minutes; She apologized and asked if we wanted a refill on our coffee while we waited. We were impressed with the way this was handled. I would also like to add that Kristen had a table of 10 and 2 that I could see and everyone was taken care of seamlessly. Went there for our anniversary dinner Sunday night. Had reservations and got seated right away. They had live music in the bar which was very loud. We could hear it in the dinning room. He was good, but loud. I also didn't like that the tables were so close to each other. It was hard to have a private conversation with another couple on top of us. Service was great, Alex was on top of everything! We started out with the BBQ 'Porky' Tots which were very yummy and very filling. I had the Five Onion Gratinée which was good, but I've had better. My husband had the Rustic Tomato Basil Soup which he enjoyed very much. We were pretty stuffed before dinner even arrived, but it was all so yummy. Stuffed Haddock Oscar was a good size portion with 2 side dishes. My husband had the Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf special which was also yummy and big in size. We got dessert even though we had run out of room. Special occasions call for it! We shared the Vanilla Cherry Crème Brûlée and the Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake. Yummy! Overall we had a great experience at The Copper Door and would highly recommend it to friends! read more

We were a party of six, and were seated as soon as we arrived (reservations are wonderful). Our waitress was enthusiastic and helpful but didn't hover. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. The bread was terrific. We had calamari and an amazing flatbread! The breaded and fried lemons slices were a little weird, but okay. We had 2 swordfish dinners which were wonderful, but the side starch was a little too rich and oniony - maybe offer choices for those who don't like onions? The two planked salmons were as good as mine (which is our high water mark), the chicken was delicious and enough for two people. The beef stew was great as well. No room for dessert, but maybe next time. We had a couple bottles of Oyster Bay wine and enjoyed them very much. Our overall experience was terrific, but the prices are a little high, so this will be a special occasion place for us. The bar looked like it has great potenital to be a favorite! Tried the Copper Door at the recomendation of a friend. Big Big mistake. I made a reservation requesting a somewhat quiet table, my husband and I were going to enjoy a special evening. The place was beautiful inside and it seemed like they had a lot of tables open on a Thursday night at 6:30, I like to linger, I probably should have read these reviews before hand. Anyway we arrived and a young man and woman greeted us, I told him we had a reservation and he looked as to where to put us. The woman just said to him why there, which I didn't understand but followed anyway. She proceeded to put us at a small two person community table, um absolutely not!!! I asked her for another table and was told they were all reserved. That's what I thought I did. Anyway we left and will not go back, end of story. I did call back and spoke with manager Megan and she told me they didn't know I had a reservation until after I sat down, which doesn't make sense because we didnt sit down. She offered us a gift cert to come back. Bad first impression ruins everything for me. Never driving back up to Beford. read more

We have been to the Copper Door 4 times now and every time we walk away feeling like it was just ok. The atmosphere nice in the lounge area but the dining area always seemed to be a bit stuffy and the tables for two seem like they are right on top of each other - not a great place for a private "couples" conversation. The lounge area, believe it or, seemed to offer a little more privacy if you could find the right booth. They have community tables but for a night out with my wife - I'd rather spend time catching up with her and not our neighbors sitting with us at the same table (?). The food has always been good but not great - not for the price you pay. Food at Sparks was always much better. Some martinis listed were $13. This past weekend I got the Kansas City bone in Sirloin and ordered it medium rare - it came out medium to medium well. Something you might be willing to accepts if the price wasn't $36 but if you are going to charge $36 for a steak you had better put it on the hands of someone who knows how to cook it. The Ahi Tuna app was very good but overall the menu is way over priced. It seems to me the restaurant had better figure out it's identity and decide on what crowd they are trying to serve - what they have right now just isn't working. read more

Arrived @ Copper Door on a busy Friday night w/out reservations. FULLY expected a wait. Was told 1 hour for restaurant area, not so long for bar area. I took a buzzer for the bar area. I did not notice the small writing on the hostess stand that there was some open seating in the bar. After an obviously over priced glass of wine and almost 40 minute wait I started noticing people coming in and seating themselves in the bar area. When I asked the hostess about it she shrugged me off and explained how busy she was to notice us (directly in front of the booth mind you) and that yes, there was open seating in the bar at some tables. Had she explained this to us from the very beginning, our 40 minute wait would have been 5 minutes. Is a hostess's job that hard that she couldn't have stopped her chatter w/ resting servers to say "hey guys, know your waiting for the bar area, but there is some open seating". Miraculously, after asking to speak to the manager about our displeasure with the hostess situation, a table in the restaurant opened up. I've been to dives, and I've been to 5 star establishments. How you're made to feel as a patron is always more important than any dish they can prepare. read more

I read the reviews as well, however, I loved this place. Went there last night. There was a VERY long wait so my husband and I decided to try to find a table in the bar area once one opened up. Once a couple got up, we sat, and within 5 seconds our server had cleaned it and wiped it down for us. Her name was Nicole S (apparently there are 3 Nicoles, so she gave us her last initial) We ordered a bottle of wine (Josh Cabernet) and got crab cakes for our appetizer (Nicole recommended them, they were wonderful). I got the tenderloin with a side of their "pommes frites" and my husband ordered the NY strip. Mine was DELICIOUS and I tried my husband's as well and his was equally delicious. The service was perfect. The restaurant was so crowded people could barely walk, but Nicole was there every time we needed her. We will definitely be back and absolutely requesting Nicole S. Nicole also informed us that they had changed a few things on the menu and were planning on changing a few more. We are excited to go back and try the new stuff. And on another note. I am a big bread eater and this bread was the best bread I have ever had! read more

Our first anxiously awaited visit to the Copper Door was this past sunday evening and went as such: The atmosphere is totally pleasing, a warm , spacious, relaxing , simply gorgeous restaurant. . I found the prices to be very high yet had no reason to doubt the food would not compare in quality to the level of pricing. The appetizer was a spring roll beef with blue cheese. To my taste i could not detect any hint of blue cheese. The biggest dissappointment was the filet was over cooked and came with half a plate of boiled potatoes. PLain fingerling boiled potatoes served with filet mignon. The filet was flavorable yet the toughest cut I have ever received on ordering a filet. The others enjoyed their meals . The service was outstanding, the atmosphere superior , sadly i would not go back to pay top end prices for mediocre meals. I do hope this beautiful building will find a way to either come down with their pricing or rise up with their meal offerings. read more

Noisy and cold, every time "THE DOOR" opens when you are in the lounge. Went with a gift card ($100) to try it out. After being seated in the middle of the lounge (cell phones etc.) Moving to the bar closer to the fire place & quieter seemed like a good idea. My Black and Tan was such a poor example I would have been embarrassed as a former bartender to serve it (no apologizes made as our bartender let us know she had 27 years experience). Started with an order of Calamari other than the fact it was only warm when it arrived and the fact it arrived so quickly you would have thought it was a previous miss order? After that short experience and a long day we were done. Still tipped out at 17.5% (sucker that I am) and have a reservation for Valentines Day weekend (to use up the rest of the gift card. But, after that... you know what they say in Culinary School good news travels slow bad news travels... I would have much rather had the same gift card as last year to "O" in Concord or The Barley House both closer and much more accommodating. My wife and I went in for dinner for our anniversary last night and were blown away by the service and food quality. Sometime were you go to a upscale restaurant (especially us guys) you think that you may have to eat again right after you leave due to small portions. (we've all done the BK run after a fancy dinner)Not so at the Copper Door! Not only was the quality perfect, but the quantity was more than enough. Not to mention that the staff was great. They made sure at all times we were taken care of. My little test is my drink, if it runs out, not the best service. Or if they dissappear for an hour after they drop the check off.(I don't use this if the restaurant is packed, I understand people get busy.) My cup was full at all times! The server was attentive but not a bother. Another bonus for a upscale restaurant.... a server with a personality, and not an attitude. Well done, keep it up! PA read more
