We were buzzing around Burbon Street and this was the first bar that we stumbled across so we came in for a couple of drinks.The guy that was bartending was super cool and he definitely kept his customers entertained. The main area is kind of small but don't let it discourage you from coming in. There's an outside patio area to sit at and you can always get your drinks to go. We come to NOLA about once a year and our first stop right off the plane is always Copper Monkey. We're not drinkers but man do we love to eat. The food here is always excellent. It's steps away from Bourbon street but tends to be pretty quiet. It seems as if their food menu has become bigger throughout the years but we always go for the NOLA favorites- red beans and rice, gumbo, jambalaya, and shrimp etouffee. For dessert- they have beignets as well as "monkey buns" which are beignets with a delicious banana topping. We were so happy to find this place! It was hard to find somewhere to eat that was serving a full menu and was dine in during this pandemic. Whenever you arrive you do have to sign in and wait to be seated. Luckily it wasn't busy whenever we arrived and we got seated right away. The employee that greeted us was super nice and turns out she does it all. Hostess, bartender and waitress. I must say I was very impressed with how well she handled everything. Including a few drunk douchebags who left a .50 tip. We ordered nachos to start out with a couple of drinks as well. The drinks were pretty strong which was a nice surprise. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and wasn't disappointed. It was pretty good especially for bar food. My boyfriend ordered a shrimp po boy and really enjoyed it. Came here on a recommendation from a friend..she generally gives exceptional recommendations but this was a miss for us. We entered and ordered our food from the bar, ordered a pretty wide variety of options to check out, my husband got the catfish po'boy, I ordered a cup of red beans and rice, a cup of jambalaya, the Whitney and monkey balls. The po'boy looked great but lacked flavor and freshness. The red beans and jambalaya didn't have the homemade authenticity that we have found across the city, it tasted like Zatarains. The best thing was the Whitney which boasted mashed potatoes, nacho cheese, cheddar and chicken strips. The mashed potatoes were definitely not homemade and the chicken was ok, it was full of cheese and was an excellent comfort food dish! We chose Hurricanes from the special board and these came out straight rum no sweetness or flavor to it. We finished with the banana monkey balls which are beignets topped with banana. The banana was good but the beignet was a little heavy. Overall, not a place we would come back to, it wasn't a good send off to our NOLA vacation. read more

It is a good looking bar and has a great backyard patio space that some of the bartenders/staff would use to smoke right next to the customers. I didn't really like that but they were quick. I also noticed a lot of foam coming out of their taps when they poured me a local ale. It obviously wasn't refrigerated properly, so they had to pour out a lot of foam to fill my cup. After walking by countless times, I finally decided to give this charming little pub a try. My initial impression was how clean and intimate it felt compared to most other establishments this close to Bourbon. The bartender was very welcoming and offered quick, friendly service. The drinks were very good, but I did go with easy-to-make Tamqueray & tonic. (I'd probably opt for someplace else for a world-class old fashioned.) The food menu offered plenty of choices. The Whitney Special didn't disappoint, but let's be honest... what's not to love about mashed potatoes topped with bacon, cheese and sour cream? The BLT wrap was very good, too... Loaded with bacon, and grilled so the tortilla was a little crispy. The jambalaya, while not quite on par with Coop's Place, was pretty decent, too. What can I say about the Copper Monkey Grill? It is a loud, kind of old-style dive bar and grill. They have a decent but not a great selection of liquors. And, it is crowded without really enough staff to keep up. I suppose if we sat at the bar and not at a table it may have been different. We ordered drinks and food from the bartender. It arrived pretty quickly. My son and I both had Oyster Po-Boys and my wife had a salad. How was the Po-Boy? It was not the best I've had but far from the worst. I like crusty bread on Po-Boys, but here the bread is pretty soft. The oysters were breaded but did not have much taste. Well, nothing a little hot sauce can't fix. I did particularly like the tater tots they served with the sandwich. My son had their sweet potato fries and also raved about them. In my opinion, they were generous with their pours. We were confused at first when our Lyft driver dropped us off here, but we soon realized we were in the right place. I'm not personally a big fan of banana, but my friend's rave reviews convinced me to stop by. The beignets come in an order of 4, and as a party of 3, we split the last one. The banana filling isn't too sweet, and it seems to have some sort of glaze atop the beignets to offset the sweetness. The texture was light and fluffy, and the exterior was lightly crunchy, just like the ones I love at Disneyland! We all enjoyed these beignets much more than the ones from Cafe Du Monde! It indeed come out medium rare but barely a 1/4 pound and thinly sliced. The bun overlapped the meat by at least a 1/2 inch. What's more the patty seemed brined. It was coated in salt.
