I first learned about Morongo Basin Unity Home at a small women's festival in Joshua Tree. The…read morefestival was raising money and awareness for Morongo Basin Unity Home - which is a non-profit organization that helps victims of domestic violence and their families move towards living more independent and self-sufficient lives. I talked at length with a woman who was representing the non-profit at the intimate festival. Through our conversation and with my brief interaction with this exceptional non-profit at the festival- I was awed at what a unique and vital resource Morongo Basin Unity Home is for the community in Joshua Tree and for the surrounding area. The most impressive aspect of Unity Home is that they address such a diverse variety of issues when it comes to domestic abuse and its painful cycle. With their amazing team of staff, volunteers, and generous donations - they are able to help victims and their families with the following things: Supervised Visitation Assistance filing a Temporary Restraining Order Individual Counseling Parenting Classes State-Mandated 40 hr. Domestic Violence Training Food Basket & Hygiene Items Emergency Shelter for up to 30 Days Transitional Housing (for clients who apply and qualify) Teen Dating Violence Prevention Tools Legal Aid Childcare Court Support Morongo Basin Unity Home is available to the community 24 hours a day, seven days a week and you can call their hotline at any time for assistance and advice. The woman that I conversed with at the festival was so passionate about helping domestic abuse victims and she had been doing so for years. Morongo Unity Home believes that helping communities move past domestic abuse - involves getting the community involved - through education and awareness. I was particularly impressed to learn Unity Home has 30-beds for victims of domestic abuse for up to 30 days. This is an organization that is working directly with and for victims of domestic abuse in every way. For specific questions about their program - you can reach them here: (760) 366-1247. If you are in a crisis situation (even if you don't live near the area) or know of someone who is - you can call their hotline at (760) 366-9663. Trust.

The atmosphere can be hostile and even intimidating for a recent DV survivor. The approach is of authority lacking compassion. Management uses DV tactics to control their Staff and often terminates those who they can not easily control - as a result a very unstable and high Staffing change over. Again if you are in a dangerous situation and need immediate help do not hesitate to accept their help {if they even offer}... I have 10 years experience as a DV employee including facilitating the 40 hour mandated training to become an Advocate. I am also a DV survivor..

He's been able to participate in all aspects of learning horsemanship, which has not only built his skills but also his confidence. He has become dedicated and is always wanting to do his best when completing tasks. What we didn't expect--but are so grateful for--is how therapeutic this experience has been, especially with his favorite superhero horse, Murphy. Being around the horses has had a calming effect on him, and the ranch has become a safe, peaceful place where he feels comfortable and supported. It has also been a great success in helping with his fine motor delays. The staff are incredibly loving, patient, and understanding. They take the time to connect with each individual and create an environment where everyone can thrive at their own pace. It's clear they genuinely care, and that makes all the difference. We are so thankful to have found Wild Wind Ranch. It's been a meaningful and positive experience for our son, and myself gaining wonderful friendships. We highly recommend it to other families looking for a supportive and therapeutic environment.

Meet the abbess, Ayya Gunasari, she is so nice & very compassionate. There are about four or 5 kuti for yogis. It is like a place of free style retreat & if you have any question, the head nun will help you answer your questions. "The monastery's primary purpose is to give women the opportunity to ordain as bhikkhunis--fully ordained Buddhist nuns--and to practice in accordance with the Dhamma and the rules of monastic discipline taught by the Buddha over 2,500 years ago. We believe that by living and practicing in this way, we can be of the greatest benefit to ourselves and to society as a whole by improving our own hearts and minds and helping others to do the same. Currently there is one bhikkhuni and a silashin in residence. Both men and women are welcomed as guests at the monastery for events and day visits, and women may come for overnight stays to study and practice with the resident community. Men are also welcome for overnight stays, with approval."
