I wonder if this is a constant issue (I mean, it's a Saturday night) or because it was so close to closing time. My server was an absolute delight and made little jokes with me about ordering a margarita and a margherita. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Marg was refreshing and the pizza was so cheesy and tasty. Based off those two items and the service, I was delighted with my experience and happy I finally got to try Coppola's, given that I frequent the area a lot. Went to Coppola's for dinner tonight. We saw reservations could be made, we didn't have any and wanted to see if we could walk in. Luckily the restaurant still had available seating, we squeezed into a booth (prior to the booth, we were in a smaller space sitting across from each other. The space was too tight for us, one of the waitresses helped us ask the hostess if we could move- thank you. It helped us making our dining experience more comfortable) Ordered Zucchini fries, Garlic Bread, Chicken Parmigiana, Veal Parmigiana. I have never been a fan of garlic bread. Often, when I go to some Italian restaurants or take out, I refuse to eat it because it's too crispy or there is an overload of garlic. Tonight's garlic bread experience at Coppola's - I absolutely loved eating it. The garlic was enough on the bread, the basil pieces you can taste, and the crisp was enough. When you pull the bread apart - soft and fresh. Between the garlic bread and zucchini fries, I ate too much. I love basil, when I saw big pieces were included, I was excited. The sauce was delicious. My Chicken Parmigiana dish, it was delicious and the chicken was soft with light breading. Lots of sauce and cheese on it. I asked for more parmesan grated cheese too. The ball of spaghetti, looks can be deceiving, the portion appeared smaller. Once I unraveled it - it was so hot and all the glorious pasta came out. My husband enjoyed his veal too. Our server, Andres, was friendly and a pleasure to have as our waiter. Thank you. Get ready for a delicious experience. All payments accepted. A friend and I went to Coppola's East for drinks, but were convinced to grab dinner as well. The menu and specials looked great! We ordered two of the specials: the veal with lemon sauce and capers and a winter salad, and one item from the regular menu: linguini vongole. I really love linguini vongole, but it's hard to find a place that does it well (using good sized clams and giving a decent portion). All the dishes were super flavorful and the service was superb! Since we sat at the bar, our server and the bartender were extra attentive to our order. The restaurant has great music and would be good for a date or intimate Italian dinner. Came here because we heard their chicken parm was some of the best in the city, and my mom was visiting and it's her favorite. Pre-dinner drink reservations were running late, so we got here at about 9:10p on a Friday night with no reservation. Thankfully, they seated us right away. The servers were on top of things, and the meals came out within ten minutes. Easily the best chicken parm I've ever had, at a reasonable price point, with plenty of leftovers. Food has really gone downhill here in the last year. I used to order the Eggplant Parmesan from here at least twice a month, but the last two times have been terrible. They deliver an eggplant and it looks good, but when you cut into it, there is un-melted cheese all inside of it. This tells me, the eggplant parmesan must have been frozen and then they reheat it or something very wrong. If they no longer know how to cook food, it is not my job to teach them. Just avoid them forever. Clearly, they do not want business. Nobody serves what they served me if they have any intention to remain in business. The food is good, however the kitchen staff NEVER follows instructions. I have ordered over the phone directly to the restaurant and have kindly asked if they can walk instructions back to kitchen. They said they cant do that. (why not?) SO every time the order is wrong and we have to wait half hour for a redo. This means not eating with my husband if his order is correct. This was a reoccuring issue with not following instructions-so simple as to which pasta sauce to use. I was told by a very rude manager that I am no longer allowed to order from this restaurant because they cant make me happy. I also asked for an email to the owner, but was never given that. We are regulars to this restaurant as we live 4 blocks away on Third Ave and frequently dine in as well as order in. Tonight we ordered 2 entrees and asked if they had fusilli to accompany my chicken cutlet and Cecelia (who took my order) responded "yes with an up charge of $2" I was fine with that. I did not get fusilli and called the restaurant with hopes they would apologize and send over the requested pasta. Cecelia insisted over and over again that what I received was fusilli - I told her it was not and she can google it and she responded " this is the fusilli we use" she raised her voice to me, refused to give me a credit for it. I asked to speak to the manager - about 8 min after holding Carlos got on the phone and said this is fusilli and said I have no time for this now and "when you come in I I'll give you your $2" I would never want to do business with this establishment ever again as they clearly do not care about their customers or the community. Too bad the executive team has no clue how I was treated and I hope they see this review and that both Carlos and Cecelia are coached. they lost me as a customer after decades and I will be sure to share my experience with my local peeps in Gramercy. read more

It's hilarious how so many of the reviews mention the free bread. Are New Yorkers starved for free bread? Yes, you get a basketful of free bread. No, it's not amazing. It's rather plain bread with a rather unappetizing small bottle of oil. The bruschetta on the other hand is very nice - the tomatoes are incredibly fresh and it's got a nice blend of vinegar/oil/seasoning to enhance the flavor. It's amazing that that is free as well. The restaurant is located in Kip's Bay on 27th and 3rd. There's a bar right in front then further in a table seating area. The ambiance is quiet and comfortable. Hilariously, the entire time I was there they played only songs by Bruno Mars. I didn't mind. I sat at the bar - the bartender was very friendly. If you're not into chatter, possibly too friendly. but again, I didn't mind. Shrimp Scampi The shrimp is not fresh - frozen and thawed. And it's a little overcooked. The sauce is very mild. An amazing amount of garlic that doesn't give much flavor. Very light lemon. Pasta itself is cappellini - not fresh, nothing to write home about. The entire dish is frankly nothing to write home about. Around $30 including tax/tip for one dish once all is said and done. For my birthday I came to Coppolas to celebrate and it didn't disappoint! My family and I went to the location on the east side (3rd Ave) and it was small and intimate. It had all the components that I love: drinks, moody ambience, good customer service and PASTA. My family and I had some drinks and they had a small kick to it, nothing to get you tipsy. Onto the food, nothing really disappointed! The Brushetta was a little hard, but still tasty. The calamari was fried perfectly! We finished the mussels and literally asked to keep the sauce to dip into everything we could! I need to speak to the chef about what is in the mussel sauce because it was everything ! For entrees we ordered: the Veal Parmigiana, Penne Alla Vodka with Chicken and I had Squid Ink Linguine topped with shrimp, crabmeat and scallops. I walked in, and no one even greeted me. It was very peculiar. My friends were already inside and seated, so I just passed the front and found them all at their table. They already knew what to order as an appetizer and couldn't get the attention of any servers. Also, we made reservations for three people for a Thursday night. I doubt you needed to, though. When the waitress finally came by and we placed an order for the app and our entrees, the appetizer came out right away. We asked for the fried zucchini, and that came right away. However, the entrees that we ordered didn't come as expected. While we were finishing our appetizer, the waitress asked if it was alright if she brought over our entrees right now. We said sure because we had somewhere to be soon so we didn't mind. But our entree never came. She came over again and said the same thing, and we finished our appetizer by then, so we said we said yes the first time. Our food never came. So, I asked another server, and he got the manager who went to the kitchen to get our food. I mean, does it take three times to ask to get our food? My friend got the linguini and bay clams, which she said was okay. My other friend got the Capellini Coppola and she didn't finish it. I ordered the homemade fusilli broccoli Rabe sausage. That wasn't good. I had to add tons of black pepper and red pepper flakes. I only finished half of it. All in all, we gave the minimum amount of tip and left unhappy. I had such a nice date night at coppolas!! The soft lighting and warm colors all around the restaurant were very relaxing and intimate. I thought it was cute that there were just tons of wine bottles as decoration (?) everywhere haha. I also liked the map in the back of the restaurant. The interior was also quite spacious with plenty of seating, and we felt very comfortable. The food was also so satisfying. The meal started off with complimentary bread, olive oil, and bruschetta. Our waiter was so nice and brought me a second bread basket when I told him how much I liked it. My boyfriend got the chicken parm and I got the tagliatelle carbonara. They came out in pretty big portions without being excessive or wasteful. Both were great dishes with just the right amount of sauce. I have never heard of this place. But apparently, it is the favorite restaurant of a coworker. He had his birthday dinner here. Just to elaborate on the social context, I do not know these people well. They all work in the same building, while I work in a different building, but we all share the same boss. Our boss couldn't make it but it was nice of this coworker to invite me. The restaurants as 43 blocks away from (long blocks, not short blocks). I decided to walk from work because I wanted the exercise, it wasn't raining, and it was a pretty nice day. I took the opportunity to talk to a friend on the phone while I walked. The reservation was for 7. I was there early-like 6:45pm. The rest of the group didn't arrive until 7:15pm, so for 30 minutes, I sat there, alone, at a table for 10, looking like the saddest, most pathetic person there. I looked like a kid who invites everyone to their party, but nobody shows up. Yeah, it was sad. I ordered the hibiscus margarita while I waited. I think mine was more sweet than others. When the group arrived later, two more people ordered the hibiscus margarita and theirs was way stronger than mine. They also had more liquid in their glass than I did. I felt a little stiffed on that drink. When the group arrived and we ordered, the birthday boy wanted to get two pizzas for appetizers, calamari, an eggplant dish thingy, and baked clams. I haven't had baked clams before so those were actually really good. I don't think I had any of the pizza because one was sliced into 4 slices and the other was sliced into 6 slices. And everybody else grabbed it before I could get to it. But the appetizers were really good. The calamari was crispy and I think that and one of the baked clams was the only appetizer I actually ate. Entree wise, 3 people got the same dish: the black linguini, two people shared one of the seafood pastas with white wine sauce, one person got a different seafood pasta with tomato sauce a side salad and meatballs, yet another person got a different shrimp pasta, I got the short rib fettucine (which was a lot and I somehow ate all of it--totally worth it), and the last person got the eggplant parm. I didn't try anyone else's dish but based on the how fast everyone ate, I'd say they all liked it. The short rib fettucine was so good The beef was tender and the sauce was perfect. It was just enough to make me wonder if I should eat all of it, but I ate all of it. Dessert was a single tiramisu that had "Happy Birthday" written on the plate. We were all so full that it was hard to eat it. Luckily, if you remember the guy with the fast metabolism from my pervious post to "The Smith" and "Sea Salt", it was his birthday, so he finished whatever was left, including the free bread--which I had to ask for, twice. The food is amazing and the ambience was nice. The service was good too but I think they were busy that night so they forgot a few times a couple things people asked for. It was expensive too, I paid for my dish, my two drinks, and 1/9 of the appetizers, even though I didn't eat most of them (not sure why I did, but just felt that it was fair to just split it 9 ways). And of course, I got screeched at when I got home for spending so much. So as a warning, this place is pricey, but it's totally worth it for special occasions. read more

Eliana was our bartender / waiter and she was so attentive with us and gave us great recommendations as I just moved here. The service from entry to exit was unparalleled. The staff were so attentive and checked in to make sure we had what we needed. The staff anticipated needs, we didn't have to ask for a thing. I ordered hot tea because it was very cold outside. The tea service included a nice mug and saucer and the wait staff had a box of several choices of tea, nice touch. I tried the Citrus Chamomile very good flavor. The meal started off with some complimentary bruschetta and focaccia with olive oil and herbs. The bread was still warm, just perfect. The bruschetta was just the right balance of tomato, olive oil, and the other seasonings used. We started with the burrata, I didn't know what to expect. It was served with side accent of a creamy mustard based sauce on tomato and crouton. If you don't care for mustard, it is separated and there is a ring of pesto for additional flavor and presentation. Perfection. We shared among three people the Penne Vodka with shrimp and Fettuccine Bolognese so we would have room for dessert. Both were very full of flavor but that Penne Vodka, best I have ever had. The sauce--mmm. I am telling you, get the Penne Vodka. We capped off this amazing dinner with the Profiterole and I am not sorry. You definitely need to try this when you are here. I have to tell you, I don't think you could go wrong with anything at Coppola's. Hands down the best meal we had in our stay in New York and honestly one of the best meals of all time. This is one of those places I frequented years ago and forgot about. I'm so glad to have rediscovered it. Service is fantastic, the atmosphere is really nice, and the food...oh so good. They provided complimentary bruschetta and bread. The bruschetta was so good. The bread looked basic...but it wasn't. It was soft and flavorful. They olive oil was also high quality. We started with the grilled calamari. It's not often you see a grilled option on the menu. It was cooked perfectly - not tough and chewy like some places that overcook it. They had a special pumpkin ravioli and I can't resist anything pumpkin. This was so delicious. It had butternut squash and mascarpone. My friend had the lump crabmeat branzino. She said it was incredible. If not for the pumpkin ravioli I would have gotten this so I'm looking forward to trying it next time. We had a couple of substitutions and they were accomodating. Wish I had room for dessert. For anyone who is gluten free, they did offer gluten free pasta alternatives. I will be trying this in the future. read more

The restaurant is quite fancy inside and we stopped by after watching a movie at AMC. The movie got out later than expected so we were concerned about not making it before the kitchen closed or being able to get seated. We were told that we would need to get there at 9:15p to get seated and luckily we did after running but I think it was a bit more annoying another table was sat around 9:35-9:40p when we were told a specific rule. The food itself was large servings, both rather good-one was on a separate menu so I can't remember the name but the rigatoni Al pesto was great. I think our service was too much actually, with multiple people coming by 30 seconds after each other asking if we needed water (again) or checking our order so we were confused. I think if the rules were similar for everyone, I'd give this a 4 star. read more
