We decided to stop in after walking around the area. This place could really use an update. We opted to sit outside as the inside smelled a bit musty and was not at all appealing. Over 3 dollars for an ice tea? I might consider that price for a decent sweet tea. This place is just overpriced all around for what you get... the only upside is the location; my experience was not a total loss because I was able to sit near the water with friends. This would be a 3.5 star if that were possible: 3 for the food and a 4 star for the service. We were here on a Friday night after 7:00 pm, seated almost immediately and served within 20 minutes. Our server was attentive. The food ( whitefish and chicken salad) was fine. For the salad I requested that the cheese be omitted and an alternative dressing- they complied! And it was very good. The whitefish was just okay- not nearly as flaky or as tasty as we've had at other places. We did like the local beer options, however. Not sure about restaurant but after hours night club male bartender ended my bachelorette weekend on a very bad note. Went to pay for the 1 beer I ordered and on on my tab said 3 shots. Not sure how one beer equals 3 shots, but I tried to explain by grabbing my cup and a small amount splashed out. I was basically empty thus me trying to pay my tab and leave. I apologized for &quickly cleaned it up with napkins. Then he started yelling at me telling me I was "throwing things" and refusing my tab and needed to be kicked out. He kept asking me if I would need to be escorted out...was only trying to pay for my one beer and leave. Should not have been disrespected like that. read more

After seeing the disparaging reviews here, I had to chime in. We were there over the 4th of July weekend with a party of 8 and had a great experience! We had to wait about 45 minutes because we wanted a table on the deck, which was worth the wait for us. Had we been willing to eat inside, we would have been seated immediately. Live music by Eddy and the Breakers provided a great atmosphere - good mix of tunes and at just the right volume so we could still converse. The view of the Kalamazoo River and all the boat traffic from the deck was fun to watch (and kept the kids occupied!). Our server was very attentive and helpful. We had the onion ring tower (cool presentation!) and mozzarella stick as appetizers. The onion rings were very thick and good and came with a really good, slightly spicy, sauce, and the mozz sticks were homemade as was the accompanying marinara and both were very good. Among the entrees for my party: burgers-big, thick, homemade bun; grilled cheese and pizza for the kids, which both were gobbled up, a very respectable Ruben sandwich, a huge plate of Spaghetti Carbonara that was shared between two with some left over. I had a half order of the Greek salad, one of the better Greek salads I've had - so much Feta, great dressing, lots of olives, cucumbers, heirloom cherry tomatoes, pepperocini. I also had the coconut shrimp, which came with a good homemade sweet (maybe a little too sweet) chili sauce that had just the right amount of kick. Perhaps one caveat would be that our party was large enough that they required our bill to be all on one tab and the 18% gratuity was included. This was not a problem for us, and the service was definitely worth the 18%, but it might be something you'd want to know going in. The complaints about the decor are somewhat understandable, it is a bit dark and dated inside, but it was certainly clean and not at all out of place for a vacation town. For a solid meal in a great vacation spot, Coral Gables is certainly worth a stop! read more

Went in for a late dinner and have to say it was a bit disappointing. As other reviews have said, it's a big space so possibly easier to get in. The food was good and the deck is lovely. That being said, service was very poor. Brought food with no utensils and didn't come back to check so eventually got up to go find a fork. Never asked if I would like an additional glass of wine or dessert and even though I was there for late dinner, there was plenty of time before close. Also, very dated and just looked it. Many places in this town are old, but tablecloths and fresh paint do wonders. Though on busy days its hard to get a table at most places, I suggest just waiting in line. This review is for the Corner Bar which is part of Coral Gables, located at the water level, waterside. It is separate from the main restaurant and has it's own menu. The server was very nice and polite, though is took a good 20 minutes for us to receive our Baja burger. It has jalapeno cheese on it that is a soft runny cheese like you might get on your nacho's in a theater, with jalapeno's in it. The meat was dry. It was really mediocre. Make sure you lean over your basket so the cheese lands on your fries and not on your lap. I was asked to meet here by a customer for a business meeting, and although I'm okay with that, most people might want a little more of a business appropriate setting with a broader menu to hold a professional meeting. Love the area and love the view, but if I return I'll try somewhere else. read more

Walked in to a friendly and helpful staff - even the manager was smiling and gracious! We came in with a group of 8 and they were more than accommodating when we needed to add more space to be comfortable with our beautiful river view..too bad it was a little too chilly to sit outside (we went in early June on a Friday night). I wish they had heaters out there. There was a nice selection of entrees, sandwiches and salads to choose from. They even had some domestic brews and good drink specialties to choose from. The wine list could be a little more expanded. We mostly had the pasta dishes which were all delicious! The server was wonderful and patient with our many requests and as a server myself - no complaints here! Two thumbs up and we WILL return next year - and hopefully get to sit on the deck (weather permitting). read more

Best service was getting seated, the rest was downhill. Appetizers brought out without plates for a party of five. A drink ordered showed up only after a reminder to the waiter. The spanikopita was undercooked to the point of raw puff pastry dough on top. The stakes we small, thin, dry and way over priced. Waited forever for the entrees and there was no waiter check in or visibility while waiting. The chicken marsala was fine on taste but thick on sauce, and presented with zero aesthetic or care. The rice was cold. There was very light load in terms of clientele, but the service was sorely lacking, possibly due to understaffing. We are locals and frequent Coral Gables/Corner Bar through out the year. We thought we would grab a quick bite on a Monday evening. We waited for over 20 minutes without anyone coming for our drink order. (Waitress did come out, but ignored us) My husband finally had to go inside to the bar to get our drinks and informed them that we would also like to order food. Twenty minutes later a waitress came and took our order. One chicken Pesto sandwich and one Cajun chicken sandwich. One hour later (!) our food finally arrived and the Cajun chicken sandwich was made as a beef burger. We were NOT going to wait to have it remade. Super poor service. We hear of people looking for jobs...maybe they need to relocate to Saugatuck, or they need a boss/owner who cares. There are better options in town. Skip this one. they told me and my bf a 20 minute wait. it was an hour wait! and i heard them say they aren't taking anymore names cuz they were topped out for the night. when i got seated there were 10 unused tables and they never filled up. then 2 tables seated after us got their order taken before us, AND one of the tables got a free basket of rolls for the wait? so finally someone asks if we've been helped yet. the wait for the food wasnt bad. first we got sweet potato fries and they were really good. but it was weird there were 3 random raw fries mixed in. not a big deal so them we get our food i got the carbonara and my bf got the chicken marsala. please dont order italian food from here. the food was not worth the wait i won't go here again. extremely disappointed read more

Me and my boyfriend went to coral gables for lunch and to shop while we were nearby camping for the week. We were seated outside by the hostess. After several minutes of waiting for our server to come, the manager came out and asked if we would like to be moved further down the outside patio away from the main restaurant because my bf had his hand resting on my leg. She stated "this was a family restaurant, and people would see us." We declined to move. My boyfriend has been to this establishment many times on the past and this was my first and certainly my last time. We were doing nothing indecent with each other while siting, but the manager in her homophobic state deemed we were being indecent by where his hand placement was. I seriously doubt that were a straight couple doing the same thing she would have said anything to them. It's sad that a place that is supposed to be gay friendly would employ someone who is an obvious homophobe. Coral gables has lost our business and those of our friends. I suggest to anyone looking for a place to eat to find someplace different. The town offers a multitude of places to eat, with a much friendlier staff. read more

This place is obviously somewhere for the locals to hang out all day/all night and drink until closing time. I was finishing my drink at the bar when the "gentleman" sitting next to me fell off his bar stool face first into the floor. His group of old cronies and the bartender seemed totally unfazed. They basically propped him back up and ordered him another drink. Keep in mind, this is only 7:30 in the evening. I could not believe what I was seeing.
