If you're someone who thinks wearing, or simply owning a baseball hat, qualifies you as "ghetto", then you will love this place. Upon trying to enter the bar area on an early Saturday evening in a collard shirt and khaki shorts, we were informed by the "bouncer" that I would not be allowed to enter because I had a baseball hat. Being the gentleman that I am, I planned on immediately removing it once we got in, but even that was not allowed. We were told we would have to go walk back to our hotel and drop the hat off before we could enter. Dear Coral Gables, two things.... 1) If you're worried about giving off a "ghetto atmosphere" vibe, then you should probably start with the door guy/bouncer. Torn shorts, worn gym shoes and a L shirt for a guy that probably needs a 3XL is not classy. The missing teeth were also a nice touch. 2) If you're not going to allow customers to even have hats on their person, then you could do what every other respectable business does, have a coat-check room. You know that tourists staying at hotels make up at least half of your customer base, so at least try to accommodate them if you plan on offending them. We've eaten here before with the food being nothing close to remarkable. The only reason we stopped in was to check out the live piano music. Which we quickly found out took place at another bar next door owned by Coral Gables....A bar in which at least half a dozen people were wearing hats indoors. Apparently they're not worried about this bar being "ghetto". Avoid this place. read more

I should have referred to these reviews prior to eating here. The good; this place is a bit of a throw back in a beautiful setting on the river leading to the lake. It is great just to take in the boats and the activity while sipping a drink. We stopped in on a fall color tour Saturday. The first clue should have been the fact that we got right in with no wait on a typical busy Saturday in Saugatuck. The restaurant is dated and old, with a bit of a mildew smell. My wife and I had lunch. She had a greek salad which was very bland, the dressing was generic and the lettuce and was nothing to write home about. Overall just plain, but expensive. I opted just for an appetizer of cheese and tomatoes with balsamic. The lunch was around $25.00 plus with tip. The service was adequate, but not great. This place is clearly living in the past, and needs a big time update. We will not be back anytime soon. read more

Really don't understand some of the hate in the reviews below. I've been here dozens of times over the years and, granted, the servers are all college kids, but I've NEVER had anything but polite, friendly, accurate service. Manager Theresa trains them well. The view from the deck is the main reason I come (though c'mon, owner Mike Johnson, the deck really could use a good cleaning, sanding, and fresh coat of paint.) This isn't a foodie place, but the food is fine if you accept it as summer-vacation (sandwich and fries, salad, cold beer) type of fare. She should honestly quit her job and let someone else that enjoys bartending take over. Shes RUDE and looks miserable to be alive. Upon entering a funky unpleasnt smell (carpet). Ordered pasta florentine and a caesar salad and asked not to bring my entre' till i had finished my salad. She brought my salad and guess what? 20 seconds later here's my entre'! Icommented that i wasn't ready and she said "sorry, that's just the way it comes". The pasta was very bland and needed seasoning badly! I won't be back. Just another one of those places that's seen better days and refuses to step into the 21st century. My daughter's chicken Caesar salad came with the anchovies that should have been on my Caesar salad. The waitress apologized and grabbed my daughters plate and fork and proceeded to pick the chicken off so she could wash it off and put it back on the grill. I have been to Coral Gables before as our family has a summer home in the area. This time around we had a party of 10 to include 5 children. Since it was dinner time, I was concerned about the wait but was told 20-30 minutes. I asked the hostess if she was sure because we had 5 children with us and was told "yes and you can wait in the bar". We decided NOT to wait in the bar but out in front...after 30 minutes I was told the party of 10 they were waiting on to leave was still seated. Over one hour later we finally sat down and was told by the waiter that the kitchen was backed up. Fine, we wanted to order the kids food right away but he insisted on getting our drink order first. After our drinks arrived, we ordered all the food and 2 appetizers. 1/2 our later our onion blossom and mozzarella sticks arrived and we were given (2) since we had to wait. At least 30 minutes later our food arrived...including the mac n cheese that was ordered for the kids. I ordered a beef sandwich which you can tell sat under in the window for awhile at the meat was hard/crunchy, my mother' meal was completely wrong and our waiter did not offer to change it for her AND they did not bring out the 4th kids meal (chicken fingers). We had to wait another 15 minutes for that but in the meantime, we were all giving my son portions of our meal as it was 8:30 by this time. Having worked in the service industry..the kids meals should have been brought out right away...I am sure boxed Mac n Cheese does not take an hour to make. I did not see the bill but it was evident that we were not taken care of like the waiter said we would be and since he automatically added gratuity, don't think he really cared. This is a resort town and they should be used to being busy after being in business for over (50) years. They should really care about their service and their customers that may frequent the area more than others. I would go back to have cocktails on the deck and listen to the live music but never again for dinner. read more

A ship that should be retired ! You walk in and see a defunct magic and toy store... The carpet and decorations are circa 1989... Food was so / so. We were a little leery to try this place because the reviews weren't great, but I'm glad we did. Awesome view, friendly staff, and way better food than almost every place we have eaten on our vacation so far. We had an onion ring appetizer which was delicious. Thick, crispy onion rings with an avocado ranch sauce. I had the chicken caesar wrap, which was very good. The dressing wasn't over powering, and the chicken was crisp on the outside, but tender in the middle. Everyone at the table thoroughly enjoyed their meal, and the experience. We also went at peak lunch times, but were seated quickly and the food came out fast. This restaurant is huge, and has been around for 50 years. Decor, and condition wise it could really use a little TLC. There are some patches to walls and things like that that don't appear to have been done by a handyman, but it didn't affect the quality of the food. We'd eat here again. read more

Oh, my, I just deleted my review from a couple years' ago, that was pretty good. We've been going to this place for years, with mostly great experiences, largely from eating decent food on the deck with a great view. My husband and I went there today, unfortunately rainy, and also unfortunately found the menu had changed. Several of our favorite dishes were missing. We ordered what had been formerly a great drink - their "special" Bloody Marys - hah! what a joke. Half the size they've been before, and very little taste - at $8 each, no less! My husband's hamburger was ok, my "greek Panini" ok, but for $47, the previous listed plus one beer was NOT worth it. when we first walked in this establishment we were hoping for the best. marrows was still closed cause they don't open til 5 pm and we had someone in our group that was hungry NOW! We saw Coral Gable and thought, well why not, we haven't tried this place in the last 6 years we have been visiting and we visit saugatuck about 4-5 times a year. Upon entering your greeted with with a sense of discombobulation! nothing matches, looks very outdated, circa 1970 mint green walls with navy blue accent walls and grey carpet that probably hasnt been shampooed since 1970's ...with extremely uncomfortable seating. The wait staff were all 15/16 y/o's who had no idea what they were doing, when we asked what the wait time for a table was they said for outside it was around 45 mins, but yet we saw plenty of tables empty. hmmmm so we asked what about inside? she said 10-20 mins. maybe she wasnt sure! Our friend was hungry and bitchy and we needed to shut him up so said fine, we then went to the bar where we were greeted by a very messy dirty looking bartender that was slower than two snails f-cking! i mean, it should not take you 10 mins to make 1 bloody mary! FOR REAL! It took our bartender about 10 mins to get all our drinks made and right when they were handed to us our table was ready! WOW! thats how slow this guy was! We get to our table...right by the window with a nice view. fabulous! Our waitress ( should couldnt of been older the 16 ) brought us our water and asked if we needed drinks, um no we have full drinks in front of us but thanks. she walked away as we browsed our menu. we didnt see her for at least a good 20-30 mins before she came back. She took our order easy enough and we didnt see her again for another 30-40 mins. our food comes out and i swear to god no lie my food was a frozen dinner served on a plate! the rice was uncle bens minute rice and the chicken was so bland i couldn't use enough salt & pepper on it to get taste! Everyone else in our party was rather disappointed as well. it was just plain yuck! after we left ( still hungry cause no one wanted to finish the meal is was so gross) we wound up getting ice cream then back to our rental and ate. this place is absolutely one of the places you HAVE TO STAY AWAY FROM! Ok, so yes, a lot of these reviews are 100% correct. The decor is outdated, and the food is less than impressive! Both need a complete overhaul. Don't go here for dinner, as there are much better choices. However, I cannot give less than 4-stars because I live in Saugatuck, and know exactly what to expect from Coral Gables. For us, it is a place to go and sit on the water and enjoy the most delicious Margaritas you will ever have! Yum! read more

Don't get fooled by the awesome waterfront seating. VERY limited food choices- nothing healthy. Also, the slowest service in Saugatuck!!! Our experience could not have been worse. We called days ahead to get a reservation for our large group, 34 adults and kids so they knew we were coming. It started the minute we arrived, 5 minutes early for our reservation, someone from our group went in to use the restroom and overheard 2 employees complaining about our group before we even entered. We were seated in a back room all to ourselves and we had 1 server for 34 people. 5 things from the menu they were out of, and the server was VERY impatient and frazzled. In the meantime all at different times 4 other people from our group went to use the restroom and overheard our server and others not only complaining about our group but using profanity as well. Our server raised her voice at an adult member of our group who was only trying to help her get the orders to the correct person. I have been to a lot of restaurants in my life and this was by far the most rude and unprofessional staff I have ever dealt with. The topper was the automatic tip of 22% that was added to our bill, $100.00 to be exact, and we could not have been treated worse. Safe to say we will never go back! read more

Very disappointed. We were looking forward to sitting outside to eat and listen to music. They were not busy at all. It was about 4:30 on a Saturday night. We were seated right away, but left after 15 minutes of being ignored. 4 waiters walked past us to take people drinks, and deliver bills but never looked at us. I even said "ma'am" and "excuse me" a couple of times. It was like we were invisible. As we were leaving, the person who sat us stopped us to see if we had been waited on. We said "no we waited 15 minutes and we were never acknowledged". She asked us to stay and she would buy us a drink. That was very thoughtful but no thanks. It was too late. read more

Good news first, the perch in my fish sandwich was pretty good. That's pretty much it, the food was overpriced for the quality, I felt like I was paying for the view. The view of the water was nice, with the exception of the sad pink flamingo fountain that's probably been there since they opened 50+ years ago. Everything felt old and tired. And our server although fairly attentive and pleasant was scatter-brained and obviously required to try and upsell food. We probably will not choose to go back unless we hear about exciting updates. read more

The limited menu is the only disappointment. Nothing on menu if you're a vegetarian or have gluten sensitivity (one in my dining party had both). Slightly overpriced, yet this is still among my fav's in Saugatuck. Outdoor seating is available and in Michigan on a nice day, take advantage of this with views of the water. Located near the chain operated Ferry that will take you across to the Sand Dunes. The food was good but I can't say the same about the service. Our waitress was nice but gave terrible service. Our salads came out about 15 seconds before our main course, our rolls never came despite asking for them and then we didn't see our waitress again until it was time to leave and we had to ask for her so we could get the bill. Drinks were empty and in need of refill and we were never asked how our food was. I waited tables for 5 years and there is so much wrong with this experience. It's a very large place which makes it a little confusing, because it's hard to determine where to go. You can go in through the front and go to a restaurant. There is also s comedy club through the front door. Around the side and behind is a big outdoor deck that is open seating. I went there with a group of 20, and the restaurant seemed extremely eager to accommodate the large group I was with. I ordered the perch with a side Caesar salad. Both items were good. My boyfriend ordered the salmon and that was good as well. Only negative comment was the abundance of spider webs on the patio where we sat. It was kind of gross to be sitting around a bunch of webs. I understand where there is wetness there will be spiders, but I think someone should be able to clean that up. Aside from that I would say this place is worth a try. read more
