Jillian's C2 class at CorePower was excellent. I loved how she incorporated the yoga strap throughout the flow, using it to deepen stretches, improve alignment, and challenge us with creative variations while keeping a strong focus on breath work. She also offered helpful adjustments, and I appreciated how many binds were incorporated into class. The studio itself is very clean and well maintained, with men's and women's locker rooms and plenty of sprays and wipes available to clean your equipment afterward. Since there are two studios with classes running simultaneously, it's important to arrive on time because the doors lock right when class starts for safety reasons. Overall, it was a great experience, and I look forward to coming back. Just be prepared for a very heated class! read more

Great place to do yoga! The class we attended was with Tiffany on Saturday Mornings at 7am. It was a high intensity workout in which was filled with great music and good energy. Hi. I really want to give 5 stars but I just can't. HPF at this location as well as all of San Diego is wayyy too hot. A few weeks ago I walked into the class and could barely breathe. The temp was 107 before class started. When I walked in I'm sure my face said it all. The instructor asked if everything is ok and I just said it's Way hot in here. She asked if I meant to be in c2. I said no. I did find it slightly offensive tbh but I let it roll off my back. I don't know the exact temp it got up to because she covered it with a piece of paper. This week I tried another. Now my third HPF in the last few weeks. I wanted to give it another chance as this is literally my fav class and maybe I just need to ease back into it. Not the case, the temp got up to 110 degrees and I had to lay on the ground for half of the class. Which is honestly not fair. I'm mainly bringing this up because I hope one day there is a change. This is a cooperate place and I know the rules are it's supposed to be 105 degrees 40% humidity. And it's not just me. in all three of the recent classes I have taken there are were moments of half of the class on the ground. I gave the stars I did because most of instructors are amazing, the manager is terrific and I love core power. I have practiced at multiple studios including, Chicago, SLC, LA, Dallas, Virginia and Delaware. And I'm not saying that to sound cool... I'm staying that to let you know I know it's not supposed to be 110 degrees in the studios. Please consider following the 105 rule. Many people don't like it. read more

This places seems to offer classes at the times that I need. Before signing up and attending a specific class, I had some questions about the classes and what I would need to bring and how to pay, that I would have liked to speak to someone about. When I called the local number listed- I was given a recording of many different options to choose from. It was difficult to get someone on the phone. Ultimately I was directed to someone in another country it seems (who I could barely understand) to answer my questions about classes in Pacific Beach. He told me (from what I could understand) that he can't answer my questions because I am not a member yet. I asked to be transferred to someone locally and he told me he could not do that, but gave me the same number I already called. Ugh, frustrating! This is unacceptable customer service! I will not be doing classes at this place due to this type of customer service. read more

I never thought I would say this, but I love hot yoga now. CorePower Yoga is a hot yoga studio that offers variety of hot yoga (mostly vinyasa) classes throughout the day and you don't need to sign up in advance for them. If you are new to yoga, especially hot yoga, don't fret. You can try out their classes for free for one week! The interior of CorePower is bright and opening. Upon entering, there is a welcome desk where a front desk staff will happily check you in or help you register (if it's your first time!). If you are a returning yogi, just show your CorePower tag card and specify which class you're taking - C1, C2, Hot Power Fusion, Yoga Sculpt, etc. All instructors are welcoming and approachable, those working at the front desk are more than happy to answer any questions you may have. If you don't bring your own mat, you can rent one for $2. All mats are cleaned and sanitized, and after use, you can place it in the "Used Mats" bin in the changing rooms. If I'm not mistaken, you can rent a towel for $1, but feel free to bring your own (for showering or for covering your yoga mat during class, because you will SWEAT). The changing rooms are clean - there are four showers, two bathroom stalls, and a vanity area with hairdryers. With the lockers, it is recommended to bring your own lock, but most of the time, you can safely place your belongings inside the locker without worries. Remember, yoga is about respect for yourself, the practice, and your fellow yogis. :) Highly recommend bringing in your own water bottle, which you can refill at the water station in the hallway. Leave your shoes in your locker or in the cubbies outside Studio 2. Here's where it gets confusing, if it's your first time... There are two rooms at CorePower Yoga in Pacific Beach - Studio 1 is right outside the main hallway. But to get to Studio 2, you have to walk through Studio 1, up a few steps at the back left, and it will be on your right. The CorePower Yoga C2 class (taught by Stephanie S.) was my first time taking hot yoga, let alone hot (vinyasa) flow. I don't think I could ever take a similar, yet invigorating class elsewhere in the world (except at other CorePower studios). ((Please expand internationally, like to Hong Kong!)) It was very therapeutic and detoxifying in the 98 degrees F heated room - just throw out any self-consciousness that you have, because everyone is sweating buckets. I left the class feeling more calm and aware, and definitely more motivated to practice yoga, whether in the US or in HK. A few days later, I took Yoga Sculpt (taught by Laura), which is a combination of C2 and weights. That burn never felt so good. Last two cents: in fitness classes in general, the music playlists usually make it or break it for me, when I decide if I want to return or not. I realize I signed up for a popular 5pm class as part of a free trial, but it was so crowded, I could not execute full movements without either someone else's bare feet in my face or my feet at someone's head or outstretched arms while on the mat. Before class, the teacher announced "everyone 4 inches from your neighbor - if I have to come move you closer, you're not going to like it." I would have rather been waitlisted or forced into another class than to be in small hot room with 60+ sweaty strangers. I thought about leaving several times because of the heat (I did NOT sign up for hot yoga) and the extremely close quarters, but the instructor blocked the exit most of the class and then even called out a girl in front of everyone who left early saying to let her know before class next time if she planned to leave early. Also, with all the emphasis on class starting on time or you're locked out, I was surprised when this class started 5 minutes late. I have a feeling this is what it looks like when a corporation runs a yoga studio, all about $$$...very disappointing. read more

I was invited by a friend to go to the yoga class there, I was one minute late for that yoga class that starts at 10:30 am on a Sunday. I appreciate punctuality but also empathize to out of hand circumstances especially if it was one minute only. Drove down to the place. Parking is a hassle in Pacific Beach even on Sundays so I paid for a spot. Tried to get in,the lady didn't let me in and let me go, no empathy to the effort of getting all the way to there as a new customer with an out of hand excuse. read more

This was my first experience with yoga and it was phenomenal! The studio was immaculate and the bathroom reminded me of a luxury hotel, providing lotion, mouthwash, deodorant, and other products to ensure patrons leave feeling clean and comfortable. The assistant studio manager, Maddy S. goes above and beyond to ensure everybody entering the studio is satisfied. She was very friendly and truly made joining a yoga studio such an enjoyable experience. Her genuine kindness and professionalism was truly remarkable! My roommate and I decided to take Hot Power Fusion Yoga with Marie D. Even though neither of us had taken yoga before, the instructor guided us along. Maybe being in a heated room just isnt for me. I tried a couple of the classes and preferred the lower heat classes but what was a bit disappointing was the fact that the instructors didn't do that much individual instruction. I think I would like it more if they went to all the students during the class and helped them get the most out of the session. I did notice that they were more attentive to the regulars but it's hard to want to become a regular when I feel like I have to break through some special yogic barrier. That bring said the workouts are good and I did feel energized and that I had experienced an effective workout. read more

Don't come here if you hate hot yoga. I walked by and decided to check it out. The girl in front told me that I could try it out for a week (free) and that there are a variety of classes that are suitable for beginners like me. I specifically told her that I did not like hot yoga, so she recommended that I do the C1 class. I came by the next day for the C1 class, and even though it's advertised as "room temperature" (the girl told me it wasn't heated), everyone in the room was dripping puddles of sweat. It was miserably hot in there! But, if you're into hot yoga, this could be your spot! read more

Hands down, my favorite instructors are: Kriday W., Kelly D., and Omaid A. (all for yoga sculpt). Kriday's classes have the best music, rhythm, and flow. She uses good cues and positive reinforcement to help us reach our highest potential. I enjoy her music tastes as well, and she always gives new yogis special attention. I love her cool-down phase, as she makes it so spiritual and moving. Kelly Duong is a veteran teacher who's classes are amazing and also challenging. Her music is also fantastic (I love it when she incorporates the latest hip hop hits). She rocks! Omaid is so great, especially if you're hoping to get a stronger core. One of my favorite mantra's that he offered us was the importance of focusing on smaller (rather than huge) transformations (such as waking up five minutes earlier in the morning). I take his suggestions to heart. His voice is calming and re-affirming. He used to be a DJ, which means that he also has killer playlists. You can't go wrong with any of the above teachers. Great classes!! I was very impressed with my first few classes I have taken. Everyone is so nice and very helpful. My first experience coming to CPY and I was immediately introduce to the instructor of the class and he guided me with a quick what to do and what I would need. Afterwards the instructor and front desk talked to me about my opinions on the class and other classes offered that I might like. I really really love this place. The only thing I would have to say is I thought it was pretty expensive. I'm a member of a gym already and I would love to add on this to my monthly work out routine but it wouldn't be beneficial to me since I need childcare especially during the summers. I will definitely try to come back as much as I can since I love this place so much. Try a week free and it's good for any of their locations! read more

The location is very convenient on Garnet in the Heart of Pacific Beach. Although I do wish they offered more days a week for their Core Restore class because it's my favorite, they have fantastic teachers. I always leave here feeling like I had a great practice. I am obsessed with core power. I have been to all of the studios in Seattle, so moving down here it was a must. Come here and take a sculpt class. (You should be relatively in shape- they kick your butt). It is a mix of yoga, weightlifting, and cardio. It will change your life! Best workout ever. The only disappointment is the classes are usually extremely full, and their back studio is too small to accommodate such a yoga-loving crowd as Pacific beach. read more

I have been coming to CorePower even since I moved to San Diego 4 years ago, and I absolutely love the convenient classes they offer, the energy of the teachers, and the different class levels that are taught. The studio is always very hot and packed full of great people with good vibes. All of the instructors bring their own flavor into the classes that they teach, and it seems like they genuinely want you to get something out of each and every practice. I first tried out CorePower's free week several years ago, which is a nice perk for new clients because you have the chance to try out several classes and teachers and see what best fits into your schedule and which type of flow is best for you. After the free week, pricing is a bit expensive and has increased over the years, but it is certainly affordable when compared to other workout memberships. It's also nice because they regularly offer Groupon discounts, and I have also been able to take advantage of the student discount since I started going. This location has 2 studios. The main studio can pack in a ton of people, but the back studio is pretty small (and be careful you don't kick the wall if you are in the back row because the ceiling slants!). Also, the studio is regularly cleaned, which is quite necessary given all of the sweat that the floors have to handle each day! I love so many things about CorePower: how it makes me feel both cleansed mentally and physically after each class, the great energy that everyone brings to class, and the awesomely unique music that is played by the teachers. It's also convenient that there are so many other CorePower locations in Southern California especially, but also in many other states across the country. Gross! The instructors and classes are GREAT however, every time I have gone to meet a friend and give this location one more try I am grossed out by the unsanitary rooms I walk into. A class ends and people dash immediately in to set up there spot. WHAT grosses me out is the management doesn't even clean the floors covered in puddles of sweat after each class. I have been to every other Core Power locations in so cal and all the others clean before each class and have a better overall experience for being one with your mat! CP is a lot of $ and I highly suggest wiping down the floors after/before each class session so people don't get sick! read more

I love Corepower. I just wish it was more affordable (okay, it's pretty affordable for yoga but I'm a cheap ass - no stars are lost because of this). The classes are awesome, and I really enjoy the teachers I've had in the basic first level class. They don't make you feel like a dork because you're not as flexible as the rest of the group or have to drop into child's pose because it just hurts. To me, this is invaluable in a yoga instructor. My biggest gripe with the PB location is that they don't seem to cut off the class size at a comfortable level. It's almost always squished in there. I did receive an email earlier this week that said if it was too crowded you could get a refund or a "free class pass" so it seems that they're working on it - especially at this time of year when everyone is getting their workout on. So, that's a big plus. I'm hoping to get back there and bend it like beckham soon. read more

Corepower Yoga has changed my life. The first time I went, almost 2 years ago... I went crawling/crying back to Bikram because I took a C2 class. Many of CP's classes are vinyasa ones, where a lot of movement is to be had. Bikram is an 1 1/2 hour class of holding the same 26 postures in a row two times. I loved Bikram Yoga. I did not like 1 1/2 hour classes and being chastised for being at the front of the room and not always completely everysingleposture. CorePower's classes are generally an hour and heated, but not make-you-want-to-hurl-heated. So after 6 more months of maybe 2 or 3 times a week in a Bikram class, I decided to try CorePower again. Boy, am I glad I did!!!!!! I found the Hot Power Fusion class (a mix between a Bikram style and Vinyasa.) I found music to help me through it. I found teachers that encouraged me to position myself wherever the hell I wanted to and to take child's pose (resting posture) if I needed to. I could drink water when I wanted to. This was MY journey, not some journey someone else had in mind for me. I ended up taking advantage of their cleaning for yoga trade. I did that for 9 months and did a nutrition program and the teacher training program! It's almost my 2 year "anniversary" with CorePower Yoga and I'm happier, calmer, toner and (25 pounds lighter). This yoga helps to heal my injuries and for this I am eternally grateful. Start with a C1 class if you are new to yoga, or Hot Power Fusion is good for beginners, too. C1 has you moving a lot, HPF is more of a holding postures in more heat type of class. Purifying, inspiring... go get your free week, already! ;) (P.S. Took the 630pm class. Free trial! Whee... I was really excited about the free yoga, but they completely over filled the class... I thought it was max 20 ppl but there were over 30! It was so crowded I was sure I could smell my neighbors... and I definitely accidentally touched one during the session... maybe an earlier class won't be so packed. will try it out again. read more

I have been practicing Bikrams yoga for 4 years when I found CorePower yoga. I have to admit that as a yogi I was a bit unsure on how I would feel with music in the background but I decided to give it a try and realized it doesn't matter. I love the heat in the rooms which aren't as hot as Bikrams but warm enough to allow your muscles to relax more and for your toxins to come out! :) The studio in PB is great with a front room and a backroom The locker rooms have 4 showers as well and is kept very clean. The C1 class is a great for beginners in learning Ashtanga/Vinayssa Flow postures. The C2 class is a bit more challenging but even beginners can come here. The asanas are usually taught slowly once, then the teacher allows you to incorporate your breath to allow the postures to flow. The Hot Yoga is similar to a Bikrams class with the Bikram style heat. There are many similar postures but you only practice each pose once. The difference between this style of yoga and the ones in C1 or C2 is that in this class you specifically hold each pose for 30 seconds or more, but in C1 or C2 you are usually flowing through the postures holding each one between 5-10 seconds. The Hot Power Fusion combines yoga poses from the C1 class and the Hot yoga class in some heat! The Yoga Pilates is a great core mat pilates workout with some easy yoga postures in the beginning to warm up. Yoga Sculpt is definitely such a strength building workout! You use weights to do a variety of arm, leg, butt and tummy toning exercise moves in the heat! This class is intense! The teachers there are AMAZING! However my favorites are: Nikki - In her class you will always start the class grounding spiritually setting an intention for the class. She always has something a little challenging like a new posture or a new way to put postures together but more importantly every class of her's feels different because she creatively puts the asanas together for a challenging, spiritually connecting, awesome flow! Lately she's been doing classes dedicated to a specific chakra and if your are connected to your higher self you will feel the difference when class is over. Amy P - Amy's classes are always beautiful because she is very calming and as a result you leave the class feeling peaceful. She also starts the class with a beautiful intention and you walk out of the class feeling great! :) Melissa - The manager or the owner, I'm not sure which initial her last name is but her classes are great. You always go over a number of different challenging asanas and you also start the class with an intention. The teachers at this studio are really amazing and you leave the class with a great workout but more importantly being more connected to your center and released of whatever you had on your mind when you came into class. There is one more teacher but I forgot her name so I will update this when I find out, and my best friend says that Tabu's sculpt class is SOOOOO GOOOOOD but I haven't tried his class because I am afraid I wouldn't be able to walk the next day from being sore. Soooooo, if you have a Corepower yoga near you, I would highly suggest you go and try and get a month unlimited membership because you get yoga and strength training classes together in a beautiful peace and love filled setting. I'll start by saying that I immediately compare this studio to other CorePower studios I've been to, hence the 2 stars. What's nice about a big chain yoga studio is the fact that you can walk in and expect similar standards as far as size of the space, amenities, customer service, etc. Otherwise, I would much prefer patronizing small, mom and pop studios that give more personalized attention. I arrived in front of the studio with 25min to spare before class. When I found their parking lot full, I circled the neighborhood for the next 20 min until I found a spot 4 blocks away. I proceeded to run to class to get there on time; when I arrived at the door at 2min before class was about to start, the instructor was already locking the door. She gave me a really rude look and told me to to be quick, really? They're a huge studio, why don't they have a front desk person? I paid my $20 drop in (yikes) and proceeded down the hall. When I went back to ask which room it would be in, I received another annoyed look and curt answer. When I walk in to put my mat down, I open the door to a huge room stuffed with at least 60 people! Mats were less than 3in on either side, the lady should have told me at the front that they were full instead of taking my $20 and mashing me in with the other sardines. I had to ask multiple people to squeeze over to make space. I work at a studio and understand crowding. We always try to have overflow classes when the room is full and at least warn people when capacity is reached. As mentioned above, I've been to other Corepower studios: Point Loma, HillCrest and North Park and had a way better experience. The staff was always friendly and helpful, the studios clean, and the instructors were always attentive. PB Corepower has a lot of room for improvement; the teacher had a big attitude, which may have been a result of not having a front desk person to help and having an overcrowded class. The studio was not very clean when I was there and the class itself left me wanting a lot more, it was quite dull and the instructor didn't really seem like she was invested in the class, just going through the motions. read more

I'm down in Pacific Beach nearly every weekend visiting my boyfriend, and, while I love PB, I miss my usual Orange County workouts. I've been shopping around for a San Diego yoga studio and I definitely found my new home. I walked in to Core Power and not only do they offer a free week to new clients, but also a free class on your birthday. And it was my birthday week! Rejoice! I was immediately greeted by a friendly front desk clerk who checked me in and showed me the ropes. The studio was bright and clean and the bathroom and showers a little small but nice enough. No locks on the lockers so bring your own lock for sure! I got all set up in the yoga room (there are two) - yoga sculpt which is power yoga with weights. The woman next to me was super friendly and immediately introduced herself and assured me that the class was going to be great. I was not disappointed. Liam was absolutely fabulous. The class was an excellent pace and, at least to me, the perfect combination of spiritual mind cleansing and challenging workout. I loved every second. It was so easy to get in the zone and the room was a good temperature. It's hot yoga for sure, but not oppressive the way some studios can be. The heat complemented the yoga, rather than make it next to impossible to do. I definitely felt it the next day and I can not wait to go back. Another bonus is that there are studios all over San Diego and also in Orange County and if you get a package or membership at one studio it is good at all the Core Powers. I've been going to Corepower Yoga at all locations in San Diego off and on for over a year now. I took advantage of a recent Groupon to restart my membership and not much has changed. The pros: lots of classes available, with a wide variety of instructors. Studio is very clean as are locker rooms, nice amenities too Instructors are warm and friendly, most recognize you by name Plenty of parking, locations easy to get to The Cons: Personally I prefer the Yoga Sculpt class as I like to get a workout at the same time. The studios are simply too hot and it's hard to get as good of a workout as I tire from the heat before my muscles are fatigued The temperature varies wildly from class to class, a recent C1 was kept at 95 throughout the class. This needs more consistency Would appreciate a challenging class at a lower temperature All in all, I probably wouldn't go back as it's not right for me. Some really like the super hot room however I find that I can't push myself as far or concentrate as I'd like to. Have given it plenty of opportunity and really wanted this to be a good fit as the folks are so friendly. Only a few instructors would keep the class at a reasonable temperature. read more

Some instructors are better than others... you can smell their experience through the sweat you're seeping... yoga heightens the senses, no? I LOVE CorePower but on my barely there salary it is really hard for me to keep it up w/ an "I can go whenever I want monthly pass" ... most of me wants to give them 3 stars for that alone but my positivity is winning in this case, and although I'm broke doesn't mean everyone else is... so if you can afford it AND you want a workout with your yoga in exchange for a little less zen and only a tad bit less sweat than Bikram offers... go for CorePower... (another tidbit tying in semi-complaint 1, with actual complaint 1...I don't think the instructors do all THAT much to warrant such crazy pricing.
