The family was on the search for good fried chicken in Williamsburg. Read quite a few great reviews on Corey's chicken. Went there for dinner, dining in. Place was empty, and was having some leaky roof issues. Wasn't leaking in the kitchen, so we decided to give it a shot. My daughter ordered the chicken tenders with cole slaw. I had to be difficult and I ordered a thigh and a breast, which seemed to cause some despair with the employee who took our order, seemed to work itself out. I had fries and green beans as my side items. Drinks were limited to sweet tea, lemonade, water and a juice. No fountain drinks available. The sweet tea was our choice and man, was it sweet. Phewee! They Brought out some biscuits and they were nice and warm and fluffy. Overall the chicken was good, unfortunately they overcooked my chicken breast, pretty tough to chew..I was dissappointed with but it tasted good and my sides were good. We an to go back again. The food was good, but a little heavy on salt for the crab cakes. The manager/owner was very accommodating and allowed me to change my order when I informed him about the crab cakes. Everything on the menu is amazing. I had fried chicken, potato salad, cabbage and a biscuit. I had a pork chop sandwich which was on a butter bun. I never expected a little cafe inside a motel to be an excellent source for homestyle Southern cooking, but that's exactly what I found at Corey's Chicken Shack (inside a Rodeway Inn). I was raised in Memphis, Tennessee, on candied yams, collard greens, corn pudding, and fried chicken, and as soon as I took my first bite of Corey's collard greens, I was transported back to my hometown. The portions on my vegetable plate were so generous that I took enough home for another entire meal. The dessert display, alone, would be enough to bring me back-- bread pudding, sweet potato pie, double chocolate cake and more await my next visit. I plan to make that soon. read more

Small family run business with excellent fried chicken . We decided to check out this place for dinner and we were not disappointed. Chicken is fried fresh to order and is delicious . We ordered an 8 piece family dinner and it came with two sides . For sides we got corn pudding and potato salad and then ordered an additional small side of collards. Everything was so good . I'd pretty much given up on eating fried chicken years ago --the last time I ate good fried chicken was as a kid in an Amish restaurant; since then it's been a few times at Popeyes or KFC. But for some reason my family was really craving it so we tried Corey's. Outstanding fried chicken! Juicy and crispy and flavorful. I'm not a gnawing on bones, greasy fingers type person with any food, but I did that with this chicken. The Mac and cheese side and biscuits are outstanding too. Extremely delicious food. We had the kids tenders, kids cheeseburger, adult cheeseburger, pulled bbq sandwich, crab cake sandwich and sides (Mac n cheese, corn pudding, coleslaw, and collards). A little tough to find in their new location inside a small hotel, but worth the effort. Among the best fried chicken you will find anywhere, and their side dishes are outstanding too. But Yankees beware -- they cook vegetables the delicious way with plenty of pork to season them. If you want super-crisp green beans that are only slightly steamed, try somewhere else, but I will take Corey's version every time! Chicken done right... and the price is right. We got 8 large pieces of fresh chicken fried to perfection, two fresh sides, and rolls for several dollars less than the national chains. Ok, so it is a good value. More importantly is the quality of the food. The chicken is perfectly cooked , moist meat and crispy coating. The sides are homemade and you can taste the quality of the preparation. Call ahead for take out because the chicken is made when order. If you eat in, planabout 10-15 minutes for the chicken. Been driving by this place for a few months now and kept telling myself I needed to stop in, well tonight was the night. Best decision I've made in a long time. Being a girl born in North Carolina I get pretty picky about my soul food, once I bit into the food I was taken back home.
