Been to this restaurant twice with my wife and both times we have done the 4 course meal. I have ordered the crab and corn chowder, grilled portobello, filet mignon & shrimp and cheesecake for dessert. Everything is well presented and freshly made. Food has always been delicious and the customer service has been good as well. I would say do to the proximity of the kitchen to the dinning area or lack of ventilation, we have experience both times a lot of smoke inside the restaurant. The first time we visited they had the front door open since it was literally foggy inside the location. Let me tell you about the most interesting dining experience I've ever had; not a positive interesting. My husband and I have been to restaurants, specifically steakhouses all around the world. Some amazing, some not so great; but never like the experience we had at Cork and Table. My husband loves steak. I don't mean loves it in the sense of enjoys eating it, I mean loves it in the sense of he would leave me for steak if that was a socially viable option. It was our 12th anniversary and on a whim we decided to call Cork and Table to see if they had a table available; and "luckily" they did. We both got the prix fixe meal and our soups/salads were good. The service was phenomenal so no complaints there. We both ordered the steak.. medium rare for me and rare (as in still mooing) for my husband. The steaks came out with a sauce that was so salty it caused me to down my water in an almost gulp. My husband cut into his medallions and they were medium-well. At best. I immediately offered him my steak (which was cooked as requested) but he assured me that the restaurant would fix their mistake and to eat. I could not eat as the steak was so salty and sauce was so overpowering all I could taste was canned brown gravy. And before anyone argues with me, I went to sleep-away camp in the poconos and can tell brown gravy from a Pennsylvania mile away. Sure enough the wonderful waitress came by and my husband told her the steak was not to his liking. She offered to take it back, to which he agreed. Not a sip of wine later, the owner/chef was out to ask what was wrong. After explaining that the steak was over cooked the gentleman asked if he could bring the meal back... to which my husband agreed, puzzled. The chef then proceeded to bring my husband's meal from the kitchen and argue about why the steak he ordered is cooked to his liking and how my husband is wrong. We are both in shock. I have never, in my 34 years, experienced a kitchen arguing with me about my preferences. The chef then proceeds to tell us that he "can't make us happy" and that he "can't cook" steak the way my husband wants it. My husbands offers to show him, to which the chef graciously declined. All in all I lost my appetite, my husband didn't eat, and we went to our usual, Fahrenheit 132, to get our food and service the way we were accustomed to. read more

Poor table service. The servers never even asked to refill our drinks. We had to flag them down and ask for water refills after our glasses were empty for 20 minutes. They didn't even notice the empty wine glass on the table for 45 minutes. They basically only came by to take our order and clear our plates. I fully understand that many restaurants are understaffed because of Covid, but Applebee's has better service than this place. With two servers covering such a small dining room (4-5 tables total), it's not that hard to check up on your guests. We honestly didn't feel like we were welcome there. The servers don't even bring out the food - the cooks/kitchen staff bring it out. So there's no excuse for not dropping by every ten-fifteen mins for a water refill or ask if we needed anything, especially with a set menu! The food was decent, but for the price you expect way better service. Ambience was average, nothing special though. This place needs to improve quick or people will stop coming. Our water glasses were never refilled until I had to ask when they brought out our dessert (after 2 other courses). Stopped here for dinner on our way south. The were able to seat us without a reservation. We ordered small plates and the food came fairly promptly. It was quite tasty. As the meal progressed, the restaurant became quite smoky, as if their hood grill was not working. Our eyes began to burn and it was uncomfortable. We ordered dessert, cheesecake, and it took about a half an hour to appear. We were told that this was because the kitchen was backed up. We couldn't really understand why it took half an hour to put a slice of cheesecake and some apple compote and caramel on a plate. The cheesecake was very good. If we ever stop here again we will sit by the door and expect it to take a while. read more

The food here is AMAZING! Our soup (leek and potato), salads (burrata and bacon blue), and entrees (steak medallions) were all to die for!! The only negative to the food was that the entree was a little too salty for my liking but I could eat that soup all day everyday!! The desserts (sticky toffee and dark chocolate espresso pudding) were eh. My boyfriend liked the sticky toffee but I didnt like the flavor and the dark chocolate espresso pudding was the consistency of hard gelatin in a bad way and the flavor was lacking. The wine was good. But the service... the service was TERRIBLE! It was very obvious 1 girl was training but it took 30 minutes for anyone to initially come to our table and after we ordered our drinks the waitress left and came back to take our dinner orders but still didnt have our drinks so we had to ask the other server for them. We also had to ask for bread for the table and check on our dessert which took 45 minutes to come out because the kitchen lost everyone's dessert order somehow. As we were leaving we heard another table complain about still not having their waters to which the waitress replied with "they're working on it, but we're currently out of clean cups." Honestly the service was so bad I might not return which makes me very upset considering how delicious all the food was. My wife and I both had the Filet Mignon four course meal. Every aspect of the meal from beginning to end was delicious. Each course was prepared perfectly. The size of each course was just enough to fill you up without leaving you feeling stuffed. You can tell that an extreme level of care is taken to ensure that every little detail about your meal has been planned and executed to perfection. The amazing meal and wine were well worth the price. The service was also exceptional. Our waitress, Christina, was knowledgeable, attentive, and personable. If I had to give one suggestion it would be that the interior could use a more cohesive design. At least one more server on a Friday night would make a difference - it is not relaxing to eat when the servers/host are acting frantic. The food wasn't bad, but they could learn a thing or two at Bistro Bethem and FoodE - the crab and corn chowder is delicious, but they serve it in a grandma cup and saucer, and the server spilled mine over into the saucer, which was annoying and icky. The pate is pretty dull, and served with a few slices of bread, a plop of mustard, and cornichons that are CUT IN HALF! Is that some kind of money-saving effort? Learn to pickle a few onions, add something like dried apricots, or fig preserve - add some sweet counterbalance. Read a French bistro cookbook. The crab cakes have no lump meat, just stringy claw - you can get that at Captain D's fast food. Add in some lump, or at least some backfin - the sweetest meat! Give me a wedge of lemon! (Best crab cakes west of MD: Anna Cabana on Lake Anna. Best.) The host spilled my dessert wine, mopped it up with my napkin, and never refilled or repoured it. For that bungle, he should have given me a few extra drops. Also, learn that the fork goes on the left and the knife on the right, so that when the table needs to be cleaned up, I don't have to reset it. We went here for my mother's birthday, and there were so many wonderful things about this restaurant. The restaurant itself is good size but not huge, which made the dinner feel more intimate. The service was prompt, and the server answered all of our questions regarding the wine and the meal. We chose to do the four course fixed price menu with wine pairings. The staff even allowed us to only be charged for one wine pairing for my husband and I, since neither of us are big wine drinkers-- so we each had a half portion of the wine pairing with our food. HOWEVER, the chef is also the reason our dinner was awkward, why I probably will not go back, and why the establishment is only getting three stars. The kitchen is tucked away from the tables, but close by . In the middle of our birthday celebration the chef SCREAMED at our waitress. It was awful-- made our table and other tables uncomfortable, ruined the ambiance, and is not in any way professional or acceptable. It was so awkward that the waitress came to our table and addressed it, since we were pretty much stunned silent. She made a comment later that he had calmed down and she would probably keep her job... Great food, but the chef is his own worst enemy. For the second course a wonderfully spiced ginger Asian soup with mushroom shrimp and squash noodles, paired with a chardonnay (substituted from the red offering). A hidden gem. We stumbled upon it on a rainy afternoon, famished, and disgruntled at the local restaurants' habit of closing between lunch and dinner... Delicious, delicious, delicious. The crab and corn chowder was not too heavy, not too salty, and chock full of crab, corn, and potato. My husband's tomato bisque was equally delectable. I had a salad with blueberries and chicken in a dijon vinaigrette. Easily in my top ten salads. The chicken was tender, moist, and flavorful, the dressing was light and bright, and the blueberries added just the right sweetness to balance the dish. We also had little lettuce wraps filled with bacon and tomato for a snack. Simple, but very tasty. Another highlight of the meal was our server, Caroline. Despite only working at the restaurant for a week, she was knowledgeable about the menu, extremely attentive, friendly, and delivered prompt and excellent service. Check this place out. My wife had the pork and I the sea bass. Both were spectacular and excellently paired with deliciously yet reasonably priced wines. What an amazing dining experience. We are trying a different restaurant every other Saturday to get to know the little gems of Fredericksburg City. This restaurant is small and intimate. It is modestly decorated and limited seating. We made reservations rather early for a Saturday night. We opted for the 4 course fixed menu. If you are expecting typical American sized proportions this place is not for you. The chef's intentions are not to stuff you full until you are uncomfortable. Each course is carefully created based on the skill of an amazing chef who clearly understands how ingredients compliment each other. We had the crab and corn chowder, smoked duck breast salad, broiled filet of salmon, sauteed sea scallops and cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding. I cannot say enough about how delightful each bite was. Now onto the blonde or gray-haired glasses-wearing big mouth sitting next to us. She was loud and domineering. The topics of her conversation ranged from gun violence in schools, police states and her trip to Yellowstone. How do I know this? She was talking so unbearably loud. This restaurant is small. If you are going to have less than lovely conversations, speak at a far lower volume. That was one thing. The worst of her obnoxious behavior is the way in which she spoke to the owner and her chef who had the misfortune of waiting on her and her party. Who I can only imagine had to suffer through her horrid behavior. She had a snit fit over not being able to substitute dressings on her salad. The salads are handcrafted. It is not a trough of iceberg lettuce from the Shoney's salad bar. It was terrible. The chef was trying as much as he could to explain to her that they don't really substitute dressings. I am shocked she didn't carry her own bottle of Ranch in her purse for just these tricky situations. It got to the point where she told him that "she was the customer". He stood his ground. She was insulting his food and the way in which it should be prepared. It was horrible. She got loud. Then tells him he is rude. I was embarrassed for him. She continued to berate him after he left the table to prepare their orders. She went on to question his mental health. How do I know this? Once again, this is how loud she was. If you have the refined palette of a regular Shoney's customer, this place is not for you. If you feel entitled to feel right and justified about berating and belittling an artist, this place is not for you. If you feel you have the God-given right to be loud and obnoxious with no regard to the people around you, this place is not for you. BUT, if you love and respect the food creations of a master chef who so diligently and carefully prepares his meals for those looking to further refine their pallets, this place is for you. I brought my daughters (one vegan) and my boyfriend for the last dinner before college for my youngest. We tried to do the chef tasting choice for 3 (with vegan for my daughter but the chef refused as it was not for the whole table). That was fine with me as it saved me about $80. The food was nice. It was not outstanding. The reduction sauce was very salty which I usually love but it was even much for me. The servings were appropriate and plenty. The filet was tender and tasted wonderful - it was quite rare although I ordered medium rare as I hate for it to be overcooked. I had leftovers which I left on the table as I was so angry.... I would go back again as the vegan option for my daughter is huge and she really enjoyed it. But I won't as the service was absolutely horrible. The wait staff did not have each other's backs. We waited about 45 mins from salad to main dishes. The waitress was in general annoyed with us and preferred to talk to her coworker at the desk than check in with us -20 ft away. Long after the dessert was done my boyfriend finally waved to the chef who was standing next to the waitresses. She came over to ask what we wanted and after my boyfriend asked for the check - she sent me a snarl. Little did she know I was paying. I only gave her 15%. That is the lowest tip I have done for as long as I have been tipping. In the last two years I have generally tipped 25% or more. I am really mad as I wish I had given her 10%. My boyfriend said he would have given 5%. The whole meal was ruined by her service. This is the first bad review I have ever posted online.
