The atmosphere was great the food was great but I have NEVER had a restaurant owner or whoever she was tell me that I could not bring my own bottle(Fiji)and water jug into a restaurant. I cannot stand the taste of Detroit water so I took my own water in as I ALWAYS do and the owner/manager came up behind me tapped my shoulder and told me I couldn't bring my own water in due to health department rules. I met my friend here on a Saturday afternoon, 30 mins after they opened. Very clean on the inside. The staff are friendly and personable. The food was pretty good. I ordered the combo with catfish, rib tips & wings. Portion sizes are decent. Food is seasoned well. I wasn't a fan of the hot sauce they use. It wasn't in a bottle with a label so idk the brand. No salt and pepper on the table. I paid with my card but had to get up & go to the monitor to sign for it. All in all, it's a decent soul food restaurant. I wouldn't mind going back. The staffs are very attentive. I am surprised they have a full staff working in 2022. Food is good, sweetness of the yam is on point. There was a variety of options available with main courses focused on chicken, fish and ribs prepared in different ways (fried, grilled, blackened, baked, etc.). I ordered the fried catfish along with two sides - mac n cheese and greens. My partner ordered the fried chicken with red/beans and rice and fried okra. I must say this is the best soul food I've had at a restaurant ! Everything was seasoned properly, not greasy and fresh. There were many different dessert options - seasonal cobbler, chocolate, pound and carrot cake. We decided on carrot cake slice which was not as dense as I would have liked but still favorable. Let first say I did not know this was the new name for beans and cornbread all this time I was amazed that nobody told they moved and changed the name lol. But anyway the ambiance is very nice I like the gray wood and black decor. The service was cool our food came out wrong at first but it was fixed it took a while but corrected the mistake. Let's start with the items I did like, I enjoyed the blue frozen margarita cocktail. The red beans and rice was pretty good as well no complaints there. I didn't like the chicken nor Mac n cheese and I love Mac n cheese it taste like they use Velveeta cheese and I don't like that type of cheese at all, I couldn't eat it. I placed a carryout order with the total being $90. I get home and my order is wrong. I immediately call up to the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager. She basically said it was my fault for not checking the sealed up bags before I left. I asked her if she checked the order before she placed it in the bag. The containers were also melted together with the plastic being in my food. My food was also cold, which it was picked up at the time I was texted that it was ready. It's a 12 minute ride home. I asked if she could just refund the money for the sides that were missing. She told me no and that I could come back and get them. Are you serious? At this point it's 15 minutes before they are closing and I would miss my movie. There was no trying to help me at all so not only is my order incorrect, half of it is not edible, I have to do the work to go and make it right. Service has never been the same since they moved and I will not be back. What is my fault is not paying for this with a credit card so that I could've just disputed it with my credit card and cancelled payment. read more

For a place to choose the name Cornbread, it better back it up with some amazing cornbread. I was underwhelmed. It is a sweeter cornbread, nothing wrong with that but it was dry and super crumbly. And we were the first ones there. I wasn't blown away. My friend loved her gumbo and we both liked our drinks from the bar, Peachy keen and Stormy Weather. I ordered a regular iced tea and again was underwhelmed. There was no deep tea flavor, just sweet water with color. For the main course I LOVED my catfish, sweet potatoes, and cornbread dressing. That dressing was flavorful and moist. Everything cooked perfectly. My friend liked her cup of gumbo a lot, but was underwhelmed with her main course and mac and cheese. The restaurant is a bit small but ambience was relaxed and inviting. Upon being seated we were given a plate of complimentary cornbread which was a bit crumbly but delicious espeically once paired with buttter. My family and I indulged ourselves in ordering most of what was offered on the menu. My personal favorite were the fried turkey chops, collard greens and candied yams. Unfortunately, I had an extremely disappointing meal. The fried chicken was dry to the point of being inedible. It tasted like it was made a few days ago and then heated up.
