Corner is located at the JW Marriott hotel in downtown Austin. If you know anything about the hotel, it's one of the newer, happening hotels in Austin and Corner definitely does it justice as a restaurant / bar. Went there on a Thursday night around 10:30PM, and the place was still half-full with people getting drinks and food. I was hungry so decided to get some food to eat in my room. Went up to the bar and was promptly served by the bartender even though the place was pretty busy. I got the short-rib nachos and the carnitas tacos, fairly straightforward fare for a restaurant that specializes in Texan food. The bartender said 10 to 15 min, and he was pretty much on the money. Food came out relatively quickly and warm, we took it up to our room and began feasting. The short-rib nachos initially seemed disappointing - too much nacho and not enough topping. However, as we were eating, we realized the reason! All the topping was at the bottom (must have put it into a plate and then flipped it). However, the nachos were so delicious that I couldn't complain. The short-rib was tender, the cheese was perfectly melted, and the chips were thick and crunchy. The Carnitas tacos were even better. The carnitas were some of the juciest I had and was flavored perfectly. It came with a spicy green sauce that I ended up putting on the nachos, but was great as well. The four of us were so disappointed. The food was lousy. Two of us ordered chicken sandwiches because they had no burger meat for burgers. (Would have been nice to know when we sat down, ordered drinks and an appetizer.) The chicken on the sandwich's was over seasoned, overcooked, and dry. I ordered the grilled watermelon salad. It was supposed to come with pistachios and feta cheese. The pistachios were black and chewy soft. The feta cheese was a single piece the size of a pea. The watermelon was over grilled and gooey with huge hard chunks of tomatoes, yuck! The salmon I added was pretty good. The veggie tacos were cold and had no flavor. My sister-in-law left the tortilla shells because they didn't taste good. The service bad. My brother-in-law ordered a sweet tea, he received regular tea. When we asked again for a sweet tea it never came. The seating was uncomfortable and the cushions were torn and very worn. It lucked out that we were staying at the JW, because the Corner was fantastic. I was delightfully surprised by the quality and quantity of the food, and the drinks were wonderful too! We had intended to grab lunch elsewhere, but when walking through the lobby noticed the outdoor patio and the beautiful weather outside, we decided to try the Corner instead. Chance, our waiter was on it. He was friendly, professional and his suggestions were delicious. My hubby wanted to try something new so he left it up to Chance to decide on his drink choice. Chance brought him a Jalapeno Margarita and my husband loved it. We also started with the Dip Trio and it did not disappoint either. Our entrees were the Breakfast Chorizo Tacos w/out crema and the Warm Bacon Salad + grilled chicken & dressing on the side. Lets just say the noises my hubby was making while eating his Breakfast Tacos made me blush, so yes, he thoroughly enjoyed every single bite! I too couldn't have been happier with my salad. The creativity of the salad and the construction made all the difference and the dressing was supherb! We both really enjoyed everything we had and looked forward to coming back for another meal. Right under the Marriott, outdoor Corner location with great views of the city and prime for people watching It was a chilly saturday night but the outdoor heaters were a big help. We ordered two rounds of drinks, which were amazing and appetizers to share since we were barhopping afterwards. They had great background music playing! Their nachos were fantastic! Mac n cheese a bit dry, mashed potatoes on point, and the 7 layer salad (great presentation) was delicious, but I would recommend to go light on the dressing or ask for it on the side, it was drenched in it. read more

First time here!Stopped in for a quick lunch! Was a beautiful day so we sat on the patio. We were greeted promptly and service started out great! Got our drinks and food quickly. The 7-layer salad w/ adobo chicken was amazing and the kale and grain salad was also very tasty! All was perfect until we were ready to leave. We weren't able to locate our sever for about 15 minutes after we had both finished and once she finally came back with the check there was a mistake on it which took even more time to correct before finally being able to pay and leave. What is the point of that? The salad also just didn't feel freshly made to me... The chips and guac to start were disproportionate. We had a tiny serving of guac with a large platter of chips. It may have been the endorphins from the bike ride or the company I was with, but you guys, I was STILL thinking about their food long after I had left. What did I get to foster such feeling towards this restaurant? Well, first, we started off with the Zucchini Cornbread. (Ask for extra butter). This cornbread will change the way you feel about corn and bread and zucchini. Shout out to Kevin, our waiter, who served us well and played along with our humor. You were awesome. He deserves a free meal, maybe the meal we had ;) He (and a friend) recommended the Fried Chicken Burger with brussels. Is it too melodramatic to say the burger was life-altering? Well, it was. This place is legit- AMAZINGGGG service, first of all. Like seriously, the best service I think I've had in a longgg time. Plus, the atmosphere is gorgeous- huge comfy leather booths and modern lighting. Lots of space, open kitchen, huge bar. This is way more than a hotel restaurant. The flavors and options here are all so unique- Texas favorites with a twist. Even the cornbread is different- zucchini, jalapeño, corn- it's a delicious appetizer. This bar/restaurant is located conveniently next to the JW Marriott and has great outdoor seating for sizable groups and outdoor bar seating as well. I stopped in during a conference at the JW Marriott for some Texas/local beer and the zucchini bread (recommended by other yelpers). The beer I ordered was delicious - it was a ginger and lemon brew from Houston. If I weren't leaving so soon, I would have loved to try a few other brews. The local brew menu also seems to change, just FYI because I was hoping to try the local sour beer. Honestly, I was pretty disappointed by the zucchini bread. It looked amazing (see photo), but it was pretty bland tasting and a bit greasy. I think it could have used a little more flavor and salt IMO, even with the side of butter. In other note, the serving size is huge for the bread, so you could easily share the bread with 3-4 people if you want to try it. The service was great and staff was very friendly. Prices are a bit pricier, but makes sense for it being connected to the JW Marriott. read more

I'm not a happy camper this afternoon. Let me start from the beginning; I've eaten here before and I love the turkey Cobb salad. It's amazing , truly. I've been craving one for about a week, today I finally decided to walk down during lunch. I work about 3 blocks down Congress Ave, and I get lunch at a restaurant within walking distance of my office 3-4 days out of the week. Today I sat at the bar, and was handed a menu. Did I mention SXSW started this week? I looked at the salads and saw that 3 of their 4 salads that are on their regular lunch menu were there, but not the turkey Cobb. I inquired with the bartender and he said that it was a cut down lunch menu because of SXSW. He checked with the kitchen, and was told they could make with chicken instead of turkey, and no hard boiled egg because none were prepped (it takes 10 mins to boil an egg BTW). I declined and expressed my disappointment, opting for the burger on the SX menu instead. I can't remember what they called it, but it was just their old fashion burger: white cheddar, lettuce, tomato, caramelized onion, and mayo. I asked for it medium, no mayo and no bun. I also requested Brussels sprouts instead of fries. I've posted a pic of the tiny burger I got (price the other 50 weeks of the year $15, special SXSW price of $16). The patty was small, and unseasoned. For what they charge it wouldn't put you out of business to add salt and pepper at least. It was cooked just a hair over medium, but was still juicy so I didn't raise the issue. The onions had no flavor, and the one slice of tomato, that was under the patty was see thru it was so thin. Now I know why it was being hidden. The Brussels sprouts were terrific. They were roasted semi crispy, but still had a good flavor. Had onion and pieces of bacon. The cooking grease could have been drained better, but that's minor. I was charged $2 extra to sub, but that was expected and I was happy to pay. So in short I got basically the same $5 cheese burger I could have gotten at the Burger Bar (also located in the JW), but got to pay $16 for the privilege. If I had gotten the burger for regular price, even though it was a disappointment, my review would have been higher for service and the Cobb salad and sprouts. But as a local, I don't appreciate being gouged because there are a lot of tourists in town. So as sad as I am to say, no more turkey Cobb salads for me. I won't be returning on principle. Too many other great places to eat in walking distance. read more

For most of our visits, I'd give Corner a solid 3 stars. The majority of the staff are nice and the food is ok. However, one off putting experience has made it difficult to return. Reading through some of the other reviewers, I was initially in disbelief--how could patrons be treated so rudely--and then of course by all strokes of luck, it happened to us. It was 10:45am on a Sunday when we wandered in looking for brunch. Because the doors were open and there were no signs or barriers, we assumed they were open for business. As we walked to the bar, we hear "HEY! We're not open till 11!" A bit surprised but also apologetic, we started to leave. Then he followed up with, "You need to order food. We can't just serve you drinks today." If he was being informative, I would've said thank you. Rather, he was shouting down at us and assumed we were only there to get drunk at 10:45am. Manfriend shrugged it off and convinced me to stay. What a mistake. We came back in at 11;05am and sat down. We had the pleasure of being served by the same bartender. Without a single greeting, he slaps the menus down in front of us and again says "I can't serve you drinks without food." (WE HEARD YOU THE FIRST TIME RUDE-FACE) In an attempt to be friendly to him, I asked whether he'd recommend the barbacoa or carnitas tacos. Again, he gets snappy "Up to you. One's beef. The other's pork." El-oh-el. Thanks, Sherlock. Anyway, we finished our food and drinks, and left. We do not intend to come back and I advise you to steer clear seeing as how I'm not the first to experience the rude service here. If you MUST dine here, I kindly recommend (unlike the bartender) the barbacoa tacos. Manfriend seems to like the chili. Avoid the seven layer salad.
