Obama eats here, and I trust the guy's opinion more or less. I was not disappointed! Made a reservation for three at 7:30 on a Wednesday. We were seated within 10 minutes - this place is POPULAR. We watched as a few couples came in but were deterred by the promise of an hour or more wait for walk-ins, but anyways. The staff is friendly and service is prompt so no complaints there. On to the food! We had a bowl of the crab and corn chowder and bread basket to start. The chowder is delicious but very creamy and it was perfect to share between all of us. Even better was when I dipped one of the warm homemade buttermilk biscuits in the soup (the bread basket is definitely worth the $4, my other favorite was the mini cornbread muffins). I ate 2.5 biscuits with no regrets. For our main course we shared the meatloaf entree (I think the menu changes daily), fried calamari, chicken skewers with Caesar salad and arugula salad. I wasn't a fan of the meat loaf--the mustard on it made it sort of hot dog-y--but it was my dad's entree and he really enjoyed it. It did come with the most amazing cheesy grits and sweet collard greens. I would have gladly eaten a bathtub full of those grits.The fried calamari had great flavor but it was a little heavy on the breaded parts. The chicken skewers were perfect and came with a really excellent ranch sauce, and the Caesar salad was pretty good though a little plain. The best part was that the salad was served in some sort of fried cheese bowl - it was like a taco tortilla bowl but made of cheese. Awesome. The arugula salad was great but nothing super special, though the bleu cheese was really tasty. Our meal was hearty in a great way - we ended up taking home leftovers. Love the corn beef on rye with sauerkraut and thousand island dressing. Loved the Southern feel with Cobblestone streets, and old homes transformed into restaurants and specialty stores. The restaurant had outdoor seating and a second story were both of their bathrooms were located. The hostess asked me where I preferred to sit when I came in, and I mentioned an inside table, she seemed hesitant as if it was going to take longer to be seated. So I decided to accept the outdoor seating since it was a nice day and their was a cool breeze outside; but this same breeze made my husband uncomfortable-he told me he smelled a funky odor outside but I didn't want to complain since the server, was friendly and we didn't want anyone to feel offended. The waitress was kind And patiently explained the preparation involved in making their Reuben sandwich. And she was also offering some ideas on where to go if we visited Charleston. The bus boy was also friendly and seemed very busy picking up plates from everywhere; he was pretty muscular too- just an innocent observation. The only other thing I didn't like were the spider webs in the little corners, windows and outdoors. A bit of pressure cleaning outside and in those windows on the top floors would make it all look cleaner and more inviting- should keep critters out and help with the unexpected odors. My wife and I enjoyed lunch here while in the area for our anniversary. We could not have been more impressed with the food and the service we experienced. I had the chicken & waffles, she the chef's omelet. Both were fresh and delicious. The wildflower honey-lemon cheesecake for dessert was the perfect cap on the meal. Absolutely delicious! Fell in love with this restaurant years ago when I visited Asheville and needed somewhere that took reservations. Went again and it's still amazing!! We ordered based off Matt's suggestions and WOW!! We ordered the Mango Bellini, Omelette of the day (filled with smoked salmon), Benedict of the day (pimento cheese and fried green tomato), burger, and donut app. Everything was amazing!! My Dad isn't one to get excited about food and he was beyond impressed with the burger. Said it was the best one he's EVER had! High praise from a man who's traveled all over the states and world. Everything and I mean, EVERYTHING was delicious here. Also, I fell down the stairs which are wooden, hollow, and right next to the main dining room. You know, a girl likes to make an entrance! The dining experience is very intimate...it definitely feels like the small, vintage (better than saying "old", right?) home that it is, tucked away in the Biltmore Village. The service left us wanting nothing (except maybe his #...) and we were all very pleased with our dishes. We started with the bread basket...ugh...need I say more?! They have little baby cornbread in there! My brother got the beef dish, his gf the meatloaf, and my mom and I split the pork chop because we'd had a little starter (and a bottle of wine) a bit earlier. Our pork chop had a drizzle of a spicy bbq type sauce on it and was atop the most perfect, warm vinegar-based veggie salad. I wish I could tell you what all was in it...there might have been carrots...celery...I don't even know other than every flavor blended to be absolutely divine. We were all too stuffed for dessert...the second bottle of wine probably didn't help with that. I would go back here in a heartbeat. You won't be disappointed. read more

We were in town for two days for our anniversary and selected several restaurants based on reviews and made reservations a couple weeks ahead. We ate breakfast here and I got the boozy French toast and while it was good it only had a spoonful of berries and a couple pecans. First Watch has a strawberry French toast that for the money is so much better. Husband got the strawberry salad with chicken and said it was good but nothing special about it. I think we chose ALL the wrong things from here :( The place is very cute. It's a little house and the inside is decorated nicely. We came at 12:15 and had a 30 min wait. Which is to be expected. We waiting in a little heated area on the porch which was nice of them to do for their patrons. We started with "Joes Chips". An assortment of different potatoes- sweet potatoes, red bliss potatoes, plantains, malangas, etc. with blue cheese. I thought that was a very interesting combination! So I wanted to order it. In my MIND I was thinking this was going to be baked? Or the "chips" would be large and thick? You know, like it was made in house. Well they came out and I thought "wow. These look like the chips I buy in the organic section"... Not saying that's what they were! I'm saying that because I was a bit disappointed. They literally looked and tasted like the bag chips I buy. Boring. Next! Next was the Chicken Pot Pie. I loveeee chicken pot pie! The chicken, the veg, the PIE CRUST! I was so excited! So it came out and the presentation was cute and innovative! As you can see in the pictures I posted. But when I took my first bite, something seemed...off...err..lacking. Yes. And the more I ate, trying to figure out exactly what it needed, he more I then realized, "this has the texture of dip!". I then became sick to my stomach. That was totally what it was. A big, bland dip. Not to mention my sister made it worse by saying "this top crust looks like a giant ritz cracker!". Ugh! Lord help me. *sick emoji face* Unfortunately this was hands down the worst chicken pot pie I've ever had. My dad got the Ruben. Dad does not share. I can not comment on its taste but it looked great! We finished the meal with White Chocolate Bread Pudding. Again, no. It came on top of flan! And no where in the description did it say anything about flan. And while we were eating...not once did I taste white chocolate. Before we left the table next to us got the brisket sandwich and it smelled and looked phenomenal! Sad face. Wasn't a fan of this place. At least we tried it, and now we know. read more

My Husband and I got married last week and are up in Asheville for our honeymoon! This restaurant is easily the worst restaurant experience we've ever had. We came to the restaurant and was refused alcohol, a mimosa, because I had a paper copy of my license that was issued by the Driver Services- as last week my last name changed. The manager that apparently has an "art degree" said anyone can make the paper copy. I would recommend letting her know that the Driver Service issues paper copies until your license comes in the mail. Also if anyone has a fake Id, they are unable to scan IDs to see if they are real. read more

Very good place to try while in Asheville. I believe if I got something different I would have given 5 stars. I got the Biltmore Basic brunch and although good it follows its name well. We were visiting Asheville and popped in to Corner Kitchen, and as usual, it did not disappoint. My husband had the pork chop and I had the trout and I have no words with which to complement the Chef for the exquisite flavors of both dishes. My trout came with green beans and mashed sweet potatoes and I'm not a lover of green beans - our server Allie was kind enough to let the Chef know and he prepared some Swiss Chard which was incredible! Allie our server was the best! She answered all of our questions like a pro, was very sweet throughout the entire evening, and her attention to detail was magnificent. Nice find. I don't see why they advertise on yelp. The food and service sells itself. Very accommodating to single Customers. They have a small seating area in the front by the Kitchen. You can watch the chefs cook but it is a bit loud. If you like creativity it is the place to be. The complementary Baba ghanouch was tasty. I started with the clam chowder that is on my check in. I highly recommend it I then moved on to their signature trout out with sweet potatoes and green beans. The beans had slivered almonds and caramelized crispy onions. Beans were crisp and fresh. Mashed sweet potato had slivered crispy potatoes on top. A nice touch. The trout was tender and fresh. Lightly breaded with almonds and a Lemmon butter sauce. First let me say that the food and the staff are 5 stars, with exclamation marks and joyful leaps and bounds. I have no complaints whatsoever about any of that. It's been a couple years since I visited here, but I recently had the opportunity to go back. However, I unfortunately was forced to make a different choice. Why? Because during that time, I have become mobility-impaired. And the Corner Kitchen's restrooms are on the second floor. It's a long flight of stairs, and there is no elevator. So as much as I had looked forward to having a meal here again...I could not, because stairs are a deal-breaker for me. I wish that were not the case, but it is. I do realize that installing an elevator for the occasional physically challenged guest is an expensive prospect and may not be cost-effective for the business, but it's very sad when I'm forced to choose what might be a second-rate restaurant just because they have accessible restrooms. So I guess I won't ever be back. I wish you the best, though. read more

First impression review: We visited Corner Kitchen on a overcast Saturday morning. We booked a table using yelps open table service. We were able to book the table 30 minutes before we arrived and were immediately seated when we got there, after being graciously greeted by the host and see multiple people waiting for seats around us (always use the open table option when available). Service was incredibly quick, I had a bottomless cup of delicious coffee and ordered the hickory nut gap chorizo and egg while my date enjoyed a Dungeness crab and asparagus omelet (a brunch special). The side options were roasted potatoes with rosemary or grits, we tried both but I would say the roasted potatoes were the better option, crisp on the outside, soft on the inside with amazing flavor. Both breakfast options were delicious, the chorizo and egg comes with tortillas and salsa so you have the option of making a "taco" if desired. They also had a biscuit as a side with the special served with a delicious locally made blueberry jam. Delicious brunch, speedy service, homey and quaint atmosphere (we sat upstairs immediately to the left in a room that was open, oriental carpets cover the hardwood floors and there was a lovely fireplace with a fire going). After breakfast you can walk around Biltmore village to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery. Can't wait for our next visit! Also, an interesting side note, this restaurant is known for hosting President Obama and party when they're in town. The table that he and the First Lady sat at is marked, so keep an eye out when you're visiting! read more

Found out about the place from friends who recommended and we had been the the owners other spot Chestnut on Biltmore Avenue for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. Rachel was our server and was great. She sensed our desire to eat, enojoy and run rather than making an evening of it. That coupled with everyone waiting on the quaint porch outside made that pace work for her as well. We started with a glass of wine and a beer while we ordered. Lisa had the green salad (****) and I had the arugula salad with blue cheese and pears and the corn and shrimp chowder (*****), which was tasty, thick and loaded with "the goods." Next courses were the charcuterie plate for Lisa (large and delish, she couldn't finish) and I had maple braised pork cheeks (*****) with bacon, green onions and topped with an egg. So "fork tender" and a decent size for a starter portion. Wine list was a little pricey for what they served; most of the california reds were from the lakes and other places south. Well curated though. As I said service was top notch; ambiance is casual and a bit noisy. Its a great location right in Biltmore Village and a short walk from our hotel. On our way back from FL to NY we made a reservation based on the reviews we read online about this popular restaurant. Located in a lovingly maintained historic home, the staff and menu offerings were varied and obviously in line with their mission...locally sourced and fresh. Our server, believe it was Chris, helped us to select delicious apps and entrees. Servings were generous which sadly kept us from ordering dessert. Maybe that is a good thing!
