I worked in the restaurant business for years so I know how some things are just out of your control. I also very rarely leave no tip because of this. However, as a server there is so much you do have control over. You can have a good attitude present yourself in a clean and tidy manner and work with customers to provide the best experience even when there are things out of your control. Stephen apparently did not get the same training as most in the industry. When customers specifically request to be seated at a large table because they are on a work lunch you should let them have the empty table. Today Stephen did not. He also had a crappy attitude each time he was asked a question. I asked if I could please get grilled chicken instead of fried on my salad. Normally waiters would tell you yes but there is a charge for that and ask if that's ok. No such luck with Stephen. I would rather say that this is a 2.5 than a 3. This used to be one of my go to restaurants/bars in town. Between the great food and the cool atmosphere it was a fun place to eat and spend time at drinking a few beers. After my most recent visit I've more than likely decided that I would not be going back many more times. There has been a major hike in prices over the last few times I've visited. Lets be real $14 dollars is a little extreme for a slightly above average burger. Especially when they try to also charge you $.75 for a side of ranch with your fries. The burger is good, but not nearly as good as I remember it being. Portions have also gotten smaller over time. Yes, it's a bit pricey, BUT Cornucopia uses a ton of fresh and local ingredients and I am more than willing to pay for that. On top of that, I've never been disappointed with a meal at Cornucopia. Their salad game is ON POINT. The buffalo chicken salad is to die for, but if you're looking for something heavier, definitely try a burger. The burgers are pretty large (and local!) and easy to take home for leftovers, but sometimes I get the slider appetizer (3 sliders, fries, and a beer for...what is it, $12?) and that is more than enough. Oh, and the burgers were voted Best in Eugene by Eugene Weekly, and it's well deserved. To top off their kickass menu, they have a full bar, rotating taps, and interesting bartenders. The service is always really slow even when its not that busy. Had to ask someone if we even had a server at our table then our server disappeared after taking our order and we never saw them again, we had to ask another server to pay so we could leave. Sit at the bar if you can that is the only way you are guaranteed to be served. Food is great and that is the ONLY reason we come back. read more

Very good food every time I come to any of the cornucopia restaurants. This one is a little small; cramped one might say. Overall higher quality and the waitstaff is fantastic. April 14, 2014- We ate dinner at Cornucopia on 5th. Service was eh...altho our server was nice, we waited too long for him to take our order and later pay our bill, plus the host/busboy never checked on us, I watched a couple get seated and totally ignored as if they were invisible, 15 minutes later they walked out. I think the place was understaffed or something, and the layout of the restaurant isn't the most server-friendly... not the waitstaff's fault. Anyway, the food was good, ambiance was neither bad nor great. HUGE messy burgers, tasted good. I had the burger basket & a pint special, $12 I think, don't remember, but it was a good deal. I can see a bunch of rugged-type of guys loving the place- TVs, bigass burgers, good beers, un-fussy dining experience. I'd say Cornucopia is worth trying for the food, but after reading all the reviews, seems getting good service is a real gamble there. (Truth be told, the service industry in Oregon is pretty horrible. I've lived all over the U.S. and customer service here in Oregon, particularly in the food industry, is the worst I've experienced)...but I digress, kind of. Cornucopia... My girlfriend and I tried eating at Cornucopia a couple months ago and we loved it! Now we've been back every week. Sometimes 2 to 3 times. She loves the ahi tuna salad and my favorites are the tempeh reuben or the pizza is great too. We usually come in on the same nights and usually the same people are working. I haven't learned every bodies names yet but John is usually our bartender/ server and he always makes us feel welcome and he's a very efficient bartender/server , coming from someone who's been in the industry a very long time. We love that you can get the full menu pretty late since we both work nights.. I recommend this place to all of my friends and family. read more

I gave this 4 stars because.....first I will say the place was packed and we were seated with almost no wait. The food was amazing. I had hummis appetizer. It was a huge portion and had it's own unique flavor. Served with olives and pita bread. Delish. I ordered a simple lemon drop that was awefull. This place is one of my favorite spots after living in Eugene for 6 years. Pull up a seat at the bar when John is bartending (ring the bell at your own risk). Tony has our drinks out in 10 and our food out in 30, but be warned that this place fills up fast if you're late to the party. Happy Hour, Angela's Sandwich, the Greek Bowl, wings, nachos, and all specials are HIGHLY recommended. Lots of live music, karaoke, and trivia going on which is awesome. read more

This was a convenient choice tonight but I have to be honest, I'm probably not gonna come back. I'm not saying that Cornucopia was horrible but the service was creepy and our server was very obviously fraternizing with a table of four guys drinking beers right next to us, which was slightly awkward due to the fact that she seemed to forget about my requests several times during our meal. Ordered the club sandwich, would have been half decent if the bread was toasted. I mean...don't ALL clubs come toasted? Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt it. I'm sure other menu items might have been more majestic than our decrepit little lifeless sandwich. I was very polite and kept wondering if maybe this whole experience was only in my head...however, I was not the only one at the table who felt a little creeped out by this dinner. Once done, I asked for the check...it took forever. So, I eventually just started to put on my coat and was going to leave some cash on the table and walk out. Then I noticed she walked over to the P.o.s machine thing. I just walked up and took care of the bill in the seedy corner where she was standing. Although the service was not great and neither was the food, I think it's important to give this place the benefit of the doubt because maybe there are better options and maybe she was only being super disconnected because of a bad hair day or something that has nothing to do with us. But still, I'll probably check out the surrounding eateries before stepping back into this one. PS: The hostess and another red haired women with a facial piercing were much nicer and more interactive so that was cool. read more

We eat vegan and my wife and I love the way they prepare the tempi for the Philly Cheesesteak and Ruben sandwiches. I do have a piece of Swiss on mine but the wife goes without on the Ruben. Fries are not the best but the salad with the Wasabi cucumber dressing is good. Lots of good beer choices and good service. read more

We are new in town and chose this place on a whim. The coffee was heavenly and I am super picky about my brew. So good I almost wanted a moment alone just to take it all in. I had clam chowder and a half sandwich and both were extremely good quality. I could tell a lot of finesse went into our lunch and it showed on the plate. This place is LEGIT! I'm visiting Eugene and wanted a place where I could get a good dinner. Yelp actually led me to this place. I ordered the Mighty Quinn Chicken Sandwich without expecting very much in the way of quality, but I was blown away when I took a bite! They actually made their own fried chicken, it wasn't something frozen out of a box. It had a great blend of seasoning in the batter and was super crispy even after the drive back to my hotel. The bacon was flavorful and the vegetables were crisp and fresh. I ordered it with a side salad on which I was also surprised to find that everything in the salad was prepared at the restaurant. Fresh cut lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, and red cabbage with homemade croutons and fresh cherry tomatoes made the salad incredibly enjoyable. I ordered it with both ranch dressing, which was thick and full of flavor, and the cucumber-wasabi dressing, which had just a hint of heat paired with the cool cucumber flavor: it was delicious. As far as complaints about the service go, I didn't have any. The girl on the phone was upbeat and pleasant, and she was helpful when I came to pick up the order (I ordered takeout). The people who are complaining about service are probably expecting more of a restaurant. This place is clearly a bar, almost a divey one at that. It's kooky and eclectic, just like everything else in Oregon, but at the end of the day it's a bar. Don't bring your kids or your grandma unless she enjoys amazing food and a cold brew. If I lived here, it's definitely a place I can see myself frequenting, and it's probably a place where you get better service if you're a regular. read more

I don't like to give recommendations until I've tried a place a few times but it was my first time here and I'm making an exception. It was really good! The prices are on the high end for a casual restaurant but they hit it out of the park on service, food, and ambiance so I feel like they earned it. The highlight of my meal was the tomato soup. The past 3 times I've gone here I've had horrible service by rude waiters who were very attentive and happy with surrounding tables. The main bartender is an absolute asshole who needs a lesson on customer service. When addressing the issues with management, he did nothing about it and acted as though it was normal. Our server was very nice, but also very absent. I tend to give servers the benefit of the doubt. But it wasn't exceptionally busy, and we watched people who had come in after us get their food long before us. My guess is someone made a mistake with the food or forgot to do a step. Not a huge deal, but I do wish we'd been told what was going on. As for the food -- not great. I'm easily pleased, but something was weird with the burger. The meat was rubbery and strange. I suspect things might be better on another night, or I just need to order something else if we go back. But not a great experience. read more

Usually I'm giving this place 10 stars but unfortunately it's nowhere near that anymore. A few months back was the first time I had actually terrible service. We walked in, the sign said please wait to be seated, and the place was busy. Cornucopia is usually busy because of the reputation it has around Eugene, especially this location at 5th street market. We had no problem waiting, and entertained ourselves by people watching, drooling at the delicious food being brought out to tables, and dreaming of the delicious beers we would all soon have. Soon, we looked back and realized a small crowd had started to form behind us at the door, as more people wanted to come eat. Multiple servers and bussers had walked by us all (8-10 people) and completely ignored us, not even saying "Sorry for the wait. We will be with you shortly". Every single one of them walked by us, for 45 minutes and completely ignored us all waiting. About 30 minutes into waiting, a table by the bar cleared up... RIGHT NEXT TO where all of us were waiting and nobody came to seat me and the 2 people I'd been patiently waiting behind the "please wait to be seated sign" with, so after standing around awkwardly for another 15 minutes, my boyfriends dad just decided to seat ourselves there because it was apparent that the servers, bussers and bartenders that were all around the restaurant weren't going to do anything. The service after this was generic and nothing special, and the beer was unsatisfactory and warm. Fast forward to 3 nights ago, my boyfriend and I go back to cornucopia and are served incredibly disgusting warm beer. He got some amber ale and I chose Crux Pilsner. I mean the glasses weren't even frosted, the beer in the tap must have been around 50 degrees, it was just terrible. Lastly, the quality in food has definitely diminished. Usually the sides of tots or fries are piping hot and salty, this hasn't been the same for about a year unfortunately. I used to just love coming here and honestly will visit again in a few months after I've eaten at some better restaurants in Eugene. Hopefully they get back up to their standards. read more

So the first time I went here I didnt realize that unless it says on the menu that the burger comes with lettuce etc it wont come with it. Once I figured that out I have had very good burger experience with this place. Hands down the best fries. Beer selection is good. Service is good considering its a bar, they are good with keeping the water glasses full and checking in even when its busy. One down side: never, under any circumstances, order the salads. Ok, I've been to both locations and pretty much had the same experience at both places. The food is good if you happen to be there at less than peak hours, if you show up at peak lunch or dinner its going to be something of a crap shoot. I got to lunch just before the big rush and had the big burrito and a beer the service was prompt and the food plenty and well prepared. The next time I got there and waited about 30 minutes while people that came in after me were being seated. The explanation was they couldn't see us...really? I was sitting right in front of the register. I complained and recieved a free beer while I waited for my burger...another 30 minutes and I just gave up, I asked them what the hold up was and they claimed they were busy. HA by the time I was seated there were less than half a dozen tables. Finally I just told them to forget it and walked out. I also had almost the exact same experience with dinner. The first time I got there I waited about 5 minutes before being seated. The food was good and the service prompt. The last time I had people from out of town and waited in the bar for at least 20 minutes but it was busy. However when we finally got seated the service was slow and less than attentive. I had the tuna and it was dry and overcooked, the salad wilted and over dressed. My guests were less than impressed also, they're food was at best ok. I would recommend cornucopia's any time other than when they are busy, if you see a line waiting just go elsewhere. read more

Every time we go to Cornucopia we're always impressed. They have great wait staff, and yummy food. Sometimes it's a bit loud and crowded, but it's never bothered us. Pretty typical for Eugene. I went to Cornucopia for their Wednesday night karaoke.There weren't too many people in there at all and it was ok until about 12:20am I went to the bar to get a second drink. No one was at the bar, considering there were very few people actually in the restaurant at this time, I waited patiently for the bartender to stop cleaning and come over to me. After he was done he went to the other end of the bar to talk to a co-worker and after about 10 min of sitting there waiting for a drink he looks me in the eye and smiles, I smile, wallet out on the counter just waiting for him to come over.. he then looks away, pulls out a book and starts writing in it and continues talking to his friend.. Im assuming they closed at 1 last night since he rudely yelled across the restaurant at us that we needed to leave at 1:15 because they were starting to close. But not serving a paying customer a drink 40 mins before close just doesn't make sense.. I don't know why you wouldn't want to make any more tips during your shift but this explains why there were very few people in there last night. Needless to say, I wont be going back anytime soon.. read more

Been here several times for lunch and dinner, and always came away with a "meh" feeling. Some friends wanted to go here for brunch one day, which I didn't even know they did, and I was pleasantly surprised. Hey! Just a strange utahn here who feels oddly at home in a brand new city, which in told is because of the variety of strange denizens. I had the huge pleasure of an Aloha Vurger and local apple cider sour style beer following our 4th of July bike ride last night! Eugene's people are incredible. I was very very happy with the food, service, and conversations with other patrons. and also I noticed the nachos as a default completely vegetarian config with all the right ingredients (Jalapeño, avocado, cheese, bean and salsa) which REALLY pleased me and may get me back here at least one more time before I depart back to Utah. read more
