I've been here a few times and today was the last. My car is in the shop, so I decided to walk up the hill originally destined for Las Chicas. It was slightly drizzling and I noticed a few people in this place, which is why I decided to cut my walk short and go in, even though Las Chicas is on the opposite corner. It was nice to see some people in here. i was hoping this place would take a hold, which would be good for the neighborhood. The ordering process was painful. The girl behind the counter greeted me in Spanish, which I responded to in English. I was excited that I saw they had a Mochaccino Chocolate. She asked what size I'd like, small or large. Because the menu board showed Ideal or Grande, my response was ideal. She didn't understand, so I specified 12oz., also written on the board. She still had trouble understanding, but we were finally able to agree. I originally embarked on my journey seeking a breakfast sandwich. Their menu here was a little all over the place, but finally I spotted Juevo con Spinaca (Egg and Spinach) pastelo. I was so excited, especially cause I've been on veggie kick lately. Again, she didn't understand me. I pointed at the menu board and told her what I wanted. She told me she didn't have that! How disappointing. I settled for the Guava y Queso (Guava and Cheese) empanada. Again, she didn't know what I was asking for until I pointed to the menu board! Finally it was time to pay. $2.75 for the coffee, $1.50 for the empanada, and $0.28 NJ Sales tax (which I found out Christie reduced while getting rid of the estate tax and raising the gas tax) all totaled $5.17. If you do the math, you'll find out that the math was wrong. She handed me my Mochaccino and I sat down to wait for my empanada. By this time, the place was empty and one of the girls was playing around with the cook. Then they were talking together behind the counter. After a while, I thought, how long could it take to make an empanada? I'm assuming they weren't making it from scratch. So I went to the counter and asked. Clearly she was embarrassed and ran to the kitchen to look for the ticket, which she found, while the other girl decided to go to the empanada case and take out my Guava and Cheese empanada. The coffee was not hot and the empanada was barely above room temperature. The moral of the story, take the extra few steps and go to Las Chicas across the street. Better atmosphere and the girls there know what they're doing which is probably why they're busy all of the time. read more

I was on my way to a birthday celebration and I needed to pick up a cake, their Caramel and Milk Cake was delicious for only $25 it was so worth it. It was an amazing cake and I would definitely come back for me. They also have a ton of other selections and freshly made goodies I want to try. Also had very kind and efficient staff. Really happy to have this by me! So far I've had their palmera which was a bit sticky but very yummy! I of course had to get the cafe con leche. I read a review that they forgot to put sugar in it but you have to tell the girls how much or they usually ask you. I saw they have a FROZEN cafe con leche which I'm looking forward to have when it gets warmer outside. I've had their Cuban sandwich and it's pretty big which I am NOT complaining!! They have a few sandwich combos which is pretty awesome especially if you want to come here for lunch. All in all I think this is a great cute corner bakery. The girls are really sweet and I hope this place gets more traffic. There a handful of bakeries around here but, they all have their unique taste. I'm excited to try more of their pastries especially their cakes, they look so delicious. Definitely give this place a try! read more

The Cuban sandwich is an absolute delight; perfect ratios, a satisfying ratio of crispyness in the traditional pressed Pan, melded with an almost impossibly moist and juicy layer of pork. The marriage happens where it should: the sandwich reveals itself to you within the intimate confines of your waiting palate. Bread this crisp is otherwise much too dry to consume alone- in this sandwich comes knee-buckling relief from the inner ingredients that rush in to propel the sandwich into a sort of delicious stew, and entree all on its own. Mustard and pickle accent the wonderful meaty and cheesy body of this absolutely delightful treat. The preparation happens in the kitchen, where it ought to be. Lesser cuban sandwiches are thrown together from refrigerated meat and heated by sandwich press. I suspect the secret here lies in paring the meat fresh from a stock pot, so that the juices remain so well embedded in the meat as it is served, cut perfectly angled, in the traditional way. I am truly touched from my experience here and I wish the proprietors good luck, for I selfishly benefit from their presence in the neighborhood. Other reviewers here have some laughable complaints about "too much mustard" and that their baked goods cost a buck more... To those friends, I say, keep your dime-a-dozen cocinas and bodega comida and leave some room for people who really care to take our neighborhood to the next level. Establishments like Sweets & Cortaditos and Dulche de Leche Bakery are the future of this proud hispanic neighborhood. If we shortchange ourselves, our cuisine will never claw out of the ghetto of "budget food" mediocrity. Apologies for the preaching. I have been coming for the past couple of weeks and told all my friends about this business because the coffee was really good, since then we have come regularly. Today I was approached by the cashier saying I didn't pay for a breakfast a couple of weekends ago; I didn't recall that but apologized and offered to pay for that giving her a $5 bill (I always get a cortadito and pan con mantequilla), then she said never mind you don't have to pay for it??!!! I was a little disappointed for several reasons. I am not the type of person that would not pay for breakfast and if one time I forgot then I am sorry and I am gladly willing to pay. However, to say this in front of my friends was uncalled for and then not considering the fact that I have been going there every weekend for the past month or two was really disappointing. I am in the business of customer service and thought this to be very unprofessional and with so many coffee shops near by my friends and I will take our business elsewhere. read more

So I'm very partial to Sweets and Cortaditos because I am always treated as family when I go there. I love that the menu is authentically Cuban - you cannot get that taste anywhere else except maybe at your Abuelita's if you are still is fortunate to have her around. I've visited both locations (North Bergen and their landmark in Belleville) I love their croqueta sandwiches and most of all their pie de coco. My husband knows better than to visit Sweets and Cortaditos and not come home with a piece of pie de coco for me. read more

This is a nice, comfortable little bakery on Bergenline avenue. I had dropped my car at a car detailing shop, and had about 3 hours to kill. It was a cold cold day, temperatures had dropped nearly 20 degrees in a day, largely due to cold winds. I came here with my laptop and was greeted by a very polite and welcoming woman. I partook in some Latin American baked goods, and thoroughly enjoyed them. It has a very relaxed vibe. Wifi also available, if you'd like to work on your laptop. read more

For a startup, they definitely have the vision. Unfortunately the area is filled with Cuban pastry shops as everyone tries to cash in on the Cuban cuisine craze. My job bought a cake here for one of my drivers. It was decent, very moist much better then my last experience here. However my only issue is that the girl we sent to buy the cake, they recruited her, offering her a job while, we (my job) were buying a cake from them. That shows a real lack of professionalism on behalf of who did that.Where i work is litterly 2 business down from them.
