On July 2, my wife and I visited Noches de Colombia for lunch. We enjoyed the indoor seating. There were about 4 other parties (2-4 people) having lunch during the time of our visit. Emma was our waitress. She was very attentive. She checked in often. She was polite and friendly. I ordered the bistec encebollao, papitas fritas, and ensalada. My wife ordered the filete a la plancha, tostones, and ensalada. It was tasty. The restaurant resides on a corner so it gets plenty of natural light. There are a few televisions for entertainment. Most had the World Cup on which was good. I can't remember if the volume was muted or low on the televisions. The restaurant wasn't loud; it was easy to have a conversation. My first visit here may have been 20 years ago but I still haven't read the whole menu, as I've tended to head straight for the bandeja paisa. Breakfast options are broader than I realized, and I recently enjoyed the huevos revueltos con migas. Tonight I got the parillada, a hefty combo of steak, chicken and sausage, augmented with a bottle of a compelling green sauce (but not THAT green sauce, I don't know the technical terms but it was great). After a night of fun, I was craving a solid Colombian brunch, and my date--who knows Hudson County like the back of his hand--suggested Noches de Colombia. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I left completely satisfied. We sat at the bar, where we were handed menus on tablets (a nice modern touch), allowing us to switch between Spanish and English. We started with café con leche and two pan de bono--cheese bread that was fresh out of the oven, perfectly fluffy yet dense. I initially expected something similar to Brazilian cheese bread, but this was in a league of its own. For brunch, we ordered scrambled eggs with peppers and onions, chicharrón (crispy pork belly), and chopped Migas (corn bits with onions and tomatoes) while my date went for chorizo. Everything was flavorful on its own, but adding their picante sauce... Game changer! The meal was reasonably priced at 14.00 each. While looking for a quick bite in the area. We decided on Noches De Colombia based on some local recommendations. The Pan de Bono were amazing. They were as they should be warm and slightly crunchy exterior with a butter and fluffy interior. Like a buttery pillow of goodness. Also had the arepas de choclo and also on the money. Buttery sweet corn like pancake with a slab of cheese somewhat melted on top. Simply delicious. And it wouldn't be a Colombian restaurant experience without washing it all down with a typical Colombian soda, a Colombiana. Staff were super friendly, service was quick and places was clean. The only thing I would note is they charge you 4% extra when paying by credit card. Otherwise a nice spot for when craving some Colombian bites. Would stop by next time to try more. read more

Definite 5 stars! Colombians do breakfast like no one else. It's like neck-and-neck with Dominican breakfast. Colombian coffee is always so good. Was visiting a friend here in Union City. The empanadas were pretty decent, but too much potato and not enough beef. Also, it was kind of dry. It was seasoned well though. There is plenty of metered parking in this busy area. The service is quick and friendly, mostly Spanish speakers but some English as well. The restaurant has plenty of seating and the ambiance is nice for modest restaurant. The food here is great. They also have lunch specials ($10.50), which I believe are cheaper than at the other restaurants. I recommend ordering Pandebono ($2). Food is good if you have all the time in the world and patience. That's why 1 star. Service is horrific throughout all locations. Servers never check on you, follow up or bring you the check- you'll ask for it 2-3 times. I really can't even lie, you will find my parents and I here at least every other weekend! Obviously we are also Colombian, so we are a little bias, but the food really is amazing, cheap, and really large portions. The best and most traditional thing you can order is of course la bandeja paisa (it really gives you a gist of what Colombian cuisine is all about). It is the dish that brings: rice, red beans, fried meat, fried pork, a fried egg, sweet plantains, avocado and a corn biscuit (or arepa). I know it sounds like indigestion waiting to happen- but it's really delicious. If you happen to make room for desert - which I must say is a MUST, so be sure to share your bandeja paisa- you HAVE to have the fresas con crema. It is really heaven to the palate. With coconut shavings, banana slices, strawberries, ice cream, dulce de leche and whipped cream....you really can't go wrong! So if you want a hearty and cheap meal get to Noches! Just be sure to put in that extra hour in the gym before hand. :) Oh the only thing I would recommend is a little bit of patience, this place gets PACKED on the weekends (especially after mass); so don't be surprised if you have to stand by the door and wait a little. Noches de Colombia is fantastic for typical Colombian food and very cheap. They offer arepas, seafood, meats and of course their national dish the bandeja. I ordered a maracuya shake in water which was sour and sweet = delicious to my taste buds. My friend ordered a papaya shake which was great too. I like that each item on the menu had a picture, you could clearly see what you are ordering. It's best to order in Spanish, the waitresses really appreciate it although they do speak some English. I ordered shrimps in a light garlic sauce which came with beets, avocado, tomato, maduros, tostones, aprepita, white rice and onions ($10). The shrimps were phenomenal, nice and crunchy, the way you expect fresh shrimp to be. It might have been the best shrimp I've ever had in my life. My friend ordered tilapia ($8) which came with everything the shrimp dish had except the toastones. We split a side of beans to flavor the rice which was really tasty. There was so much food on each plate you can probably get away with ordering one dish for two people. Just make sure you check your change because the cashier gave us the wrong about but that was fixed when we pointed the mistake out. There are a couple of Noches de Colombia in the Northern NJ area and if they are as good as this one, I will be checking them out if I am in the area. read more

The staff is always very nice and the service is very quick! For a entree, I always get the Carne Asada , just plain YUM . They also serve the best rice and beans ever! Wash it all down with some Manzana (apple soda) your in heaven! If you have not tried any of the Noches de Colombia restaurants, highly recommend giving this place a visit! Conveniently located on the corner, we were able to find parking right away. Came here with 3 of my sorority sisters after doing some kickboxing to refuel and we ended up staying for a bit catching up. We all wanted to initially order something healthy but being that their menus included pictures of their meals, we ate with our eyes! lol We ended up ordering the Carnitas Salad, The Tres Carnes Salad (this salad included shrimp, chicken and steak) and the other 2 girls opted for a small bandeja paisa which included white rice, chicharron, steak and sausage. We also got a small side of Calentado (rice mixed with beans). Everything was perfectly cooked and had great flavor! It was also a pretty big portion so there was enough to take home for later. The food is very good - flavors are right on target. Try the arroz con pollo and the carne asada. Usually I am not a fan of rice and beans but even the rice here is done perfectly: flavorful and tender with a great beans to rice ratio. It's even good reheated for lunch the next day! The steak is very flavorful and seasoned to perfection, and the chicken is tender and juicy. Entrees are around $12-15 and include a side (rice, yucca, tostones, frijoles, papas fritas, salad). And definitely do not leave without an order of the beef empanadas ($7.25) : flaky, crispy crust and savory filling with beef and potatoes. The chicharron ($5!) is also a good appetizer option but make sure to eat while hot! It's nice and crispy. I have only gotten takeout but the staff are friendly and portions very generous even though they do charge you a $.25 packing fee/dish. You can also order online, which I tend to do. I happen to come by this restaurant after a conference with some friends. Browsing through their menu, I could immediately tell that this place was affordable , especially since Colombian restaurants often served huge servings of food, from my previous experience. And boy was I right! I ordered the pechuga empanizado (breaded chicken breast) and it was huge! The chicken alone was as big as the plate. It came with maduros (sweet plantains), an arepa, and rice. Unfortunately it did not come with beans, which is customary. So I had to order that separately. Regardless, it was delicious! The serve was so-so as our waiter ignored us a few times while we were still talking to him. Fortunately the food came very quickly, so that balanced it out. The restaurant was nice except for the bathroom which was a mess. There was wet toilet paper on the floor and liquids by the toilet. I did not know this place was a chain. I knew there were two in Union City, but I just thought they had the same name for some...reason.
