I was in San Diego for 4 days and ate here 2x, these burritos are huge and jam packed with food and flavor. They do a few Breakfast Burritos that are worth every penny and make for a very hardy and filing start to your day, you may also need a nap though (it's a lot of food). While the food is great on its own, you'll for sure want to try the sauces. They give you a red sauce that goes so well with all their burritos and a green salsa you can get on the side at the salsa bar that I can only describe as refreshing. If you live in the are or if you're just visiting I 100% recommend that you stop in and give it a try, you will not be disappointed. I am very disappointed in the Machaca breakfast burrito I had today. I Don't know who was throwing this together but there was no flavor and nothing to tasted terrible. The very little meat they put inside of it was cold and as u can see in the picture I'm posting it taste like it looks horrible. The eggs are not even cooked this is the worst burrito I have honestly ever had. This use to be my favorite place however I feel like they don't care since we are stuck in take out right now anyways. I cannot believe I haven't review this place! I've been eating here for years and it's amazing. One of my favorite taco shops. I always order the pollo adobada torta, it's my absolute favorite, and with their red salsas *chefs kiss*. I literally don't have pictures of my food because I always eat it too fast. It's our first time here and we weren't really impressed. We had gone to the Vallarta Express in La Mesa right before that, so we got the same items just to compare. We got the menudo, supreme carne asada quesadilla, chicken sopes, carne asada sopes, and a side of rice. The rice was plain. The menudo didn't come with corns or garnishes like cilantros and onions, though it did come with a generous amount of tortillas. The packaging was poor. The menudo here spilled, while the one from Vallarta survived. The quesadilla had pico de gallo, guacamole, and lettuces mixed in. It came out soggy and quite oily. It wasn't cut into smaller pieces, either. Vallarta cut theirs into 4 and little touches like that matter to us. The sopes here were also soggy and oily. Salsa selection was limited. There's only 1 salsa option which was a red one and then tapatío. On a brighter side, the service was fast and there's plenty of parking. Overall, we've had better food from Vallarta and we'll definitely go there instead. read more

Cotijas and I go waaaaay back! I've been eating here since I was in high school and to be honest it's still as delicious! My favorite burritos here are the carnitas burrito which is always delicious. The carnitas are tender but def have a fried taste. It comes with pico and guacamole and usually I always add sour cream to my burritos but it is perfect as is. I also always order the breakfast hash burrito. If you haven't tried it yet do yourself and favor and get it! It's delicious! It comes with eggs, sausage, bacon, cheese, sour cream, and hash browns, if this doesn't sound good together to you I suggest you give it a try cause it is heaven! Overall, customer service is always nice even when it's busy and the food is perfection! The only thing is I wish their carne asada fries came with more ingredients like pico and guac and sour cream. I've ordered those and was disappointed that they came with only cheese and carne. The shrimp Diablo burrito is also amazing! We regularly get our cars serviced by Toyota (a couple minutes walk from Cotijas Taco Shop. I love Mexican food and hit this place up for lunch---yet again. Been coming here for years and the food is very good and consistent. They are usually pretty quick in getting the orders out. I've gotten burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, and chilaquiles over time. All the food has flavor, and the portion size is pretty fair for the prices (although this is one of the pricier taco shops I've seen). Have been going here for years, but since Covid hit and there is no salsa bar to get your own salsa, every time I have been there, you basically have to beg to get enough salsa's for the food you order. They won't even give you one salsa for each item ordered. After spending more than $30+ every time we go here I would expect to not have to check my bag and see 4 small salsa's for the 8 items we ordered. RIDICULOUS! I wonder if when they eat at their own place, do they not use salsa. After this has happened ever time since covid, I will not be back.
