The Cottage Cafe is probably our favorite place in Spokane for breakfast. I believe my wife had a breakfast sandwich that she said was really good. Our daughter had a waffle, bacon, and eggs. She finished all of her food, which means it must have been good. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs with the Cottage Fries. The Chicken Fried was huge! The Cottage Fries are seasoned nicely and very good! If you don't want to wait in line, I would recommend going when they first open. This is a very popular restaurant for good reason. We arrived at 7:45 on a Sunday morning and didn't have to wait. It filled up fast and when we were finished eating there were quite a few people waiting. My family decided to try this restaurant for a Sunday brunch. Upon arrival there was a bit of a line, possible sign that the food was good, and there were waiting customers outdoors waiting as well. It took about 10 minutes to get our names on the waiting list, it was a full house and the staff was busy waiting on seated customers. The wait was about 25 minutes, which was a bit of a bummer especially with three hungry kiddos (ages 12, 5, 15 mos). When we finally were seated the waiter was very kind, helpful, and fun spirited. My husband and daughter ordered the chicken fried steak, my 5 yo ordered pancakes, I order oatmeal with toast for my 15-month-old (he ate from my plate as well), and for myself I decided to order French toast. Pros: The food is really tasty and has a traditional Sunday home cooked brunch feel. There is plenty of food to share a plate with a younger child. My family enjoyed the homemade cinnamon and also the pecan rolls. They are big in size and can be shared with at least 2-3 people. The staff was friendly. The location isn't bad and on the main road not far from I-90 freeway. Also the prices are reasonable for the vast amount of food served. Cons: The wait time was a little longer than expected. I believe Sunday's are their busiest days for brunch, so be prepared for a wait unless you're willing to get there when they open. There are chairs outdoors, however at that time the chairs were linked and locked together. So for customers that waited outdoors until a seating area was available found it a bit difficult to sit (at the time of our visit, it was a few older individuals that wanted/needed to sit). My husband and I were not too thrilled about the homemade fries/hash which were cut up round potatoes. It is great for the kiddos, but I would order traditional hash browns the next time we visit for brunch. Overall Experience: It is a quaint little restaurant that does what they do well. Other than the wait time, I know what to expect and plan to arrive a bit earlier with my kiddos in tow. We were pleasantly happy with our meals and took the rest home for a later snack. read more

The cottage Cafe always has a line and I have stood in it several times. But I have never been disappointed for doing so. The food here is always good no matter what you order. I always treat myself to their special Vienna coffee which comes with a scoop of ice cream in it. The eggs benedict are amazing and they have an open kitchen which is very clean. The staff is always friendly and they work quickly to get your food to you in a timely order. Can't beat the cottage for breakfast. It's always great! If you go on the weekend, expect to wait a little before being seated. Bar is open so if you're by yourself or one other Person it's great for that. The service is always quick and efficient. This was by far the quickest service we received in all of Spokane and CDA over the weekend. It was decently busy when we arrived at around 11AM. We waited maybe 20 minutes to get sat, but while waiting, we looked at the menu and knew what we wanted to order when we got sat. Once we ordered, the food came out in 10-15 minutes! Every other restaurant that we went to took over 30 minutes, so we were very happy! The server was very quick and efficient, which I love. The food portions here are huge! This little breakfast place is absolutely great. The location is close to our house, so that makes it convenient. Be sure to come early because there is always a line here, but it is worth the wait. The coffee is really good and you can get some while you wait for a table. They have the creamer that I like, so that's a plus. Also try the bacon, it is thick cut and very tasty. Every time we have eaten here, it's been good. The parking is not too bad and they have plenty of street parking on the side if the lot is full. Ohk this experience was a bit tricky initially. First time ever in Spokane so I wasn't used to the culture (if you want to call it that) and was taken aback by all the seemingly unpleasant stares my bro and I were getting from all directions everywhere we went. As we made our way towards the waiting area I felt a sea of eyes turn and focused right on the two of us, now there was no confusion of anger or fear, it's was solely fear. I asked my bro what did you just get us into and he laughed like I was playing (confused face). The stares lasted the entire time we dined. To my surprise, a group of elderly whites spoke and said to my bro " that's a lot of food you got there young man" so I thought hmmm maybe I'm in my own head and being dramatic about the looking ass people. Between that comment, our waitress being super sweet and attentive and the music changing from some country tunes to the Notorious BIG upon being seated, I started to relax a bit. I ended up having a great experience and the food was beyond delicious and plentiful. Those potato fries are to die for. They had a zesty strawberry jelly that tasted so fresh as if hey just made it. I couldn't stop spreading it all over my toast. The Kong's omelet was large enough for a king and had all the trimmings. I was so glad we decided to stay. The orange juice was fresh too. I loved everything about the food and the service hence the five stars. I will definitely come back here for a fix when I return to Spokane/Spokane Valley in a couple months. Special shout out to our waitress who's name I didn't even get but you know who you are. The moral of this review is never make assumptions and see everything thorough before you miss out on life. This review should be 3.5 stars, just to begin with. The Cottage is a good place for breakfast. Really cute atmosphere, very home-like. My food was okay. I ordered the ham and eggs. Ham was great, eggs were okay, and the hash browns were nearly burnt. Also, they advertise on the fireplace that if you "Check in and Like" their business, you get VIP treatment and possibly something on them. Well our service wasn't anything VIP, it was what you would normally expect of service from any restaurant. And though it did say "possibly," we never did get anything free. Despite showing our server, Brandon, that we did what their sign asked (which was awkward in and of itself, since he seemed perplexed as to why I was doing so.) My waitress' statement in response to my discomfort with my hairy dish, was that things "happen", and it is "inevitable." She looked me right in the eye and said that LOL. Please dont come here. Nothing is special about this establishment, other than their cottage-esque building. Their food is nothing I have not seen before, having typical food selections such as omelettes and pancakes.
