We "picked" like the coldest, rainiest day to visit this restaurant. Almost cancelled because we requested an outside seat during the age of covid... But, ultimately glad we didn't. Their fully covered tent and heat lamps made the rain almost the perfect backdrop to a pretty perfect early dinner. I think something has to be said of just their ambiance and service. You can always tell when people actually like their job and like working with the people around them. We felt that immediately here. And with the warm heat lamps toasting us up right nice, we had an excellent meal. Every dish was great- but like others mentioned, we really enjoyed their "award winning (for real)" wings and rye cornbread, to start. I managed to get a reservation while visiting with my girlfriend and her parents and so glad we did. We ordered the Savannah crab rice and chargrilled octopus as starters and the explosion of flavors from the crab rice and the super tender octopus legs was the perfect way to prepare our taste buds for our main course. For the main course, my girlfriend and I got the market fish which was salmon and it was perfectly paired with the peanut risotto. They had two entree specials that we ordered that were both to die for, as well: (1) a white fish (can't remember exactly what it was) with a delicious pecan crust; and (2) crab legs, which were pre-cracked, so easy to eat without too much hassle and full of thick pieces of meat. One of my favorite restaurants in Savannah! I've been back multiple times, often when people are visiting Sav for the first time and we are showing them around. The drinks are always delicious, the staff is always super kind, and not once has there ever been an issue with the food. Brussels sprouts: have you ever had bad roasted Brussels? 7. Mushroom gumbo: not much mushrooms and a lot of sauce. I like the crispy rice block. But nothing mind blowing. Everyone is so friendly here. Multiple people brought us drinks, dishes, and water for our pup. It seems like everyone cares for the guests, not just your server. There are four seating areas. You can sit at the bar, inside tables around the bar, tables on the original patio with wood slits around it, and the tables on the deck with the tent over it, where we sat with our puppy. Our server was so kind and knew the menu well. She gave exceptional descriptions of the items we asked about. We both began with a cocktail from their menu, and I did not take pictures, so I cannot remember the name, but it was served in a coupe glass and tasted like summer at the beach, so it had some coconut in it. For our appetizer, we shared shrimp and grits. They served it in mini cast iron, combining all the ingredients. It had cheese, peppers, bacon, and three shrimp. After my hubby took his first bite, he said it was the best shrimp and grits he had ever tasted. It was divine. For our mains, we shared the chicken thighs with Mac and cheese and the mushroom gumbo. Both were delicious meals, but the chicken thighs were the favorite. The chicken breading was so tasty and crispy. Then you could put honey, a yum yum sauce, and a pickle with the meaty chicken. I preferred a little bit of all three with my meat. The mushroom gumbo sauce was great, and the grit cake was crispy, but it needed more mushrooms, in our opinion. read more

Service was spot on, we were constantly checked on, glasses filled with water and when it was time to order our sweet waitress did not disappoint with her recommendations. My colleague and I shared our meals. We started with the award winning wings, DELICIOUS. That crisp and flavor I will never forget, truly deserving of it's title. For mains, we went with the grilled trout with roasted garlic (we counted 15 cloves!) and pine nuts. What a combination! It was delicious. We don't get trout where we live, so this was a melt in your mouth treat. I ordered the pork shank with cabbage, rice and bacon jam. Wow! Talk about flavor in every bite, and perfect for a chilly night. We also got a side of their grits just because and I wanted to lick every spoonful of that dish!! For dessert we ordered the favorite dark chocolate cheesecake, decadent and the perfect amount of bitter and sweet. I was a little perplexed as to why this restaurant was ranked so high on trip advisor when we first walked in. Top 10 in Savannah? You'd never guess it by looking at it, or the very limited menu. To my surprise, when we arrived and asked for a table for two, we were told they did not have any tables inside available. My face saddened, and another lady looked over things, and she found a table for two inside. I could not believe they were booked for the evening. I'm happy for them. Well enough of that. Let me tell you about the food. We started with their Award Winning Wings, and they were all that and more. Nice and crispy and flavourful. I had to keep myself from licking my fingers. Just the right amount of heat and sweetness. Another surprise. Who would think that a white-cloth dining restaurant would serve fried chicken wings? Well, they do, and they are delicious. They top the service off with a warm wet hand towel to clean your sticky fingers. Next, we ordered the shrimp and grits, which were delicious. It came served it in a cast iron skillet and the shrimp was so fresh I thought they caught them right before they serve us the dish. I can't forget to mention the smooth velvet grits. We couldn't decide what to order next, so we tried the sides sampler. We ordered mac and cheese, cabbage, and brussels sprouts. At first, I was skeptic about ordering the mac and cheese because they listed grain mustard as one of the ingredients. Who puts mustard in their mac and cheese? I made a reservation for this restaurant about a month in advance for a bachelorette party and was absolutely blown away by the service received! When I made the reservation I specifically requested the vault, which is sort of a private room for our party of 8. If you want this room definitely call and ask for it in advance. When we arrived for our dinner reservation, the party before us was unfortunately still using the room. The staff were so nice and apologetic about it, and they covered our first round of drinks for the inconvenience. We had to wait almost 30 minutes until finally the manager went to speak to the other party and politely ask them to leave lol. True Southern hospitality. For the food: the hangar steak and the pork shank were very well-received. Nice big chunks of meat. And we all enjoyed the various drinks we ordered. I will be back next time I am in Savannah.
