We ordered the Holiday Ultimate Feast for Christmas. We picked up the food the afternoon of the 22 and refrigerated it almost immediately. We ate the food the 23. The food was not fresh. We ate it, but had to throw it out in two days, because it was going "bad". I was very disappointed. I wanted left overs. We order from this CP at least 5 times a month. We are very good customers, but this time, CP dropped the ball. The turkey especially was "twangy" even on the first day we ate it. Please understand that in Rockwall I drove past Cracker Barrel and Le Madelaine to get to Cotton Patch to pick up my food. In the past, I have utilized both for my holiday meals with excellent results. Because CP has been such a great source of quality meals this past year, I was pleased to trust you with my holiday. Cotton Patch, a venerable bastion of Southern deep-fry dishes in Rockwall, Texas, was our destination. Big place, big booths, big welcome by the hostess, very helpful. I noticed some rooms partitioned toward the back, for meetings, private parties, etc Started this day with spicy Mexican fare, so when I spotted the Strawberries & Pecans Salad, it appealed. This has Spring greens, sliced fresh strawberries, Raspberry vinegrette, Bleu cheese chunks, and roasted pecans... In a deep, generous bowl. $9.99 This is very tasty eating, but I would cut the Bleu cheese into smaller pieces. And the funny part was... with the dressing poured, now the Bleu cheese and the pecans slid down the greens to the bottom of bowl LOL I ate my way down to the dungeon, to a strong finish of crunchy pecans! The peach cobbler ala mode for dessert was nothing to brag about, mostly thick pastry dough, not much peach to be found. Service was spot on. I decided to try this because I never been here before. My wife has plenty of times with meeting family and such. I started out with fried mushrooms as an appetizer, mainly because they so good. Would suggest to ask for extra crispy, you won't regret it. A good amount was plated and even the wife had some. She had the Texas Caviar, to my surprising -- it was great. For my main course, I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak. I was able to swap out the green beans and mashed garlic potatoes for corn and apple cinnamon. Both were great choices. Corn just needed some butter. Fixed it with some butter from the rolls. The cinnamon apples made me think of a nice fall day. Prices were great. Ambiance was just a comfy feeling. Definately will be back. Pictures were of half eaten food. The honey maple chicken was pretty dry and really sweet. The fish and shrimp were pretty salty but paired very well with the delicious tartare sauce and cocktail sauce. The mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were on point and good too. The restaurant itself is pretty decorated and just a lot of open space. We had the "Dailey Special" which was chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. They also serve you a basket of rolls before your meal comes out. They are really good rolls. The only thing I wasn't real happy about was the chicken fried chicken. It was ok but next time I will try the meatloaf or chicken fried steak. Overall a good experience. read more

I have to say I miss the original Black Eyed Peas greatly. I do not miss the former shell of it itself which eventually failed. That said the cotton patch has been a satisfactory replacement. The white staff has always been kind. The menu is straightforward. This is Southern cooking. The restrooms were decent. The tables were mostly clean. The location is off. I 30 East Service Rd. after the Ridge Road exit. I would say the prices are average. Parking is plentiful. A friend and I came hungry and we left very satisfied. I decided on the Tex Mex Salad and she got the soup and salad combo--potato soup and Strawberry Pecan Salad. The greens were fresh, everything was delicious. The service began a little slow, but she more than made up for it. The rolls were hot and delicious. The bread had to be requested and then even so did not come out until the first round of meals were delivered. Food was not served together. I think my favorite part of the meal was the fried green tomatoes but we also enjoyed the fried mushrooms Turkey and dressing, All the flavors of The Taste of Texas tenders, and the brisket chicken fried steak. I did read some of the other reviews posted before my visit and I have to say that I didn't personally experience anything To the point where I wouldn't recommend The Cotton Patch but with that said it may be a hit-or-miss situation where I just happened to be there on the right day at the right time and your experience may vary. Do not trust the managers there they don't give a damn what goes wrong. And the food there is terrible. Not worth a penny in my pocket

After a long hiatus my kids asked if we could come here last night. Saturday night and it was dead. Should have taken that as a sign. We got chicken crispers and my son got shrimp. The portion sizes do not match the price. Some of the chicken strips were more like the size of a nugget. It looks like the menu changed and they took quite a few things off. Probably a good move for a struggling restaurant. This place used to be so busy but started going downhill several years ago. We miss the amazing servers like Christopher "Crispy" who would go the extra mile. There was also another server who was amazing but we didn't see her either. Our server was fine. She was super sweet, but not the most attentive but she was also young so maybe even inexperienced. The rolls used to be so good but they must have changed. It looked like someone smashed they while they ripped them apart before bringing them to the table. Even my kids commented that they were smashed. I know times are hard and everything is costing more but this place used to be a great value but definitely not anymore. I don't mind paying higher prices but at least give me the amount of food that matches the price. Cotton Patch used to have such a great lively vibe but it was so lifeless and sad when we visited. I wonder how long they will be in business since most restaurants are very busy on a Saturday night. read more

Ordered the grilled avocado Chicken burger.... It was good and what was expected. We ordered Patti Melt. It is huge! Looks delish but sadly was way over salted. Same with the fries with it. When I walk in, I saw 12-15 people seated near the entrance & 10 people standing around looking for the hostess. Nobody was there greeting the customers & asking "how many" with a smile! I stood there with them for 5 minutes before a young lady came over & asked "how many". You can tell she didn't care to serve. She was doing the absolute minimum. So, I waited another 5 minutes & I asked the lady how long it would take to be seated. She delightfully replies "oh, 25-30 minutes". There are 8 or 9 tables that are EMPTY! We left & went to Torchy's where we're greeted with a smile & seated immediately! I will never go to this Cotton Patch ever again. Rockwall Texas location has got to be the worst managed restaurant I have ever seen. There have been issues here for a while but this is the first time I've taken time to write a review. We go just after 3:00pm Sunday. There are maybe 8-10 tables being used. We are seated and given plastic ware to eat with. Are you kidding me? They said they were busy earlier so thats why they had no silver ware to eat with. I then order salmon. Oops. Their flat top grill is down so no fish. I didn't notice until after we ordered that they have a flaming grill and its being used. Not sure why the fish couldn't be cooked on that grill. Wife and I both ordered vegetable plates. At about 23 minutes into waiting, we got up and left. Most vegetables there are premade so food should have been out in 10 minutes or less especially with one of their line stations being down. I ordered a vegi plate consisting of Garlic mashed potatoes (really good), green beans, squash casserole (not good at all), fried okra and broccoli rice casserole (good). I couldn't help but wish I had some seasoning salt packets in my purse. Somethung more than salt and pepper. I wasn't impressed, but again the other three people in my party loved their food. I have visited this restaurant numerous times and the service/quality of food continues to decline. As of late, the to-go staff and management can't seem to align on what the correct pricing is for specific items, which leads to confusion when placing an order. Even after informing them that I have ordered the same thing over and over, all I was given was an attitude. The GM (Olivia) seems to be nice but the rest of the management team needs more training. My sisters and I meet up for lunch weekly and this week we went to Cotton Patch. We are pretty harsh judges when it comes to "home cooking" as we grew up at the foot of my Southern Mama who spent almost every waking hour in her kitchen. We usually have hits and misses on our sister adventures. Having said that, there were no misses at all today. Pete, our server could give lessons on service. He appeared immediately and took drink orders and brought our fluffy, warm, delicious rolls immediately. The fried mushrooms were piping hot with a delicious crunchy coating and plump juicy insides. 2 of us had Chicken Fried Chicken, one had Turkey and Dressing and one had a veggie plate. Between the 4 of us, we had mashed potatoes, corn, baked squash, black eyed peas and green beans. We shared butter cake for dessert. They were all great! We usually find a few things on our respective plates that might miss the mark, but everything hit today. Pete always had our glasses full, was informative on every item, accommodated every substitute and never, ever made us ask for anything. Cotton Patch is lucky to have him. I have been to many 5 star restaurants and Pete could teach them a thing or two.
