What happened? Been coming here consistently over the past few years for great service & fantastic food! However over the past year something's changed? Food quality and presentation has been slowly going downward, inconsistent and on certain dishes seasoned with too much "SALT"! Literally had surf and turf where the lobster was like rubber "inedible"! In past entrees were complimented with side items and garnished nicely. Now they're plated with menu item only which lacks of "High End" sophistication and pricing. Sides have been consistently over cooked and burnt. For example the broccolini stems were like sticks, hard, chewy not crunchy fresh. So disappointing. Entrees and sides proportions have also changed from generous sizes to "where's the meat". Bring back that 8" thick Carrot Cake", mind you it's way more than you can eat! One thing that is still consistent is the service, our waitresses have always been great! Thank You! Wife took me for father's day, we had reservations for 6:30 and ended up showing up closer to 6 and asking if we could get in early. It worked out really well for us. I ordered a Ceasar salad, Lobster and Filet with a side of sweet potato puree. My wife had French onion soup, filet mignon and a baked potato. I was pleasantly surprised the Lobster was cooked very well, my filet was a perfect medium rare and the sweet potato puree was fantastic. The french onion soup was great and the wife's filet was cooked very well. The manager actually stopped by to check on us and hooked us up with a slice of carrot cake and oh man it was delicious! Came here to celebrate Father's Day with the hubby. I had the filet mignon and hubby had surf and turf. Then we ended with carrot cake. Food was delicious as usual. We have not been in a while but nothing has changed. The ambiance is very relaxing. The sound is low even with a packed restaurant and you can see the open kitchen to watch them cook as you enjoy your company. We had the most delightful server, Jackie. She gave us suggestions but also gave us time. We were also visited by the manager. This is always very nice to know that managers have their feet on the ground as well. Decided to celebrate my work service anniversary at the Steakhouse at the Hard Rock before the concert and my only dissatisfaction was my inability to eat more . It's an elegant decor inside, much fancier than my rockshirt and jean shorts should have been allowed. We had a reservation but they were able to seat us earlier which was wonderful. 1st, Our server Jaquie was beyond fantastic in all areas. She stayed on top of refilling drinks, bringing any condiments or utensils, and was overall superb. The food, was fantastic. We got the bread basket, which came with bone marrow butter and an assortment of different breads. While the bone marrow butter was rich and tasty, the breads, while good, in my humble opinion, the best bread was the rolls you get complimentary, so you can save a few $$ that way. Ordered the Pork Belly Appetizer which was a little crispier than I expected, but rich in flavor. Everything is a-la-carte, and knowing the steaks were going to be large, wife and I split an order of Brussell Sprouts, and Cheesy AuGrautin Potatoes. Sprouts were crispy, and in a vinaigrette, absolutely great. The Potatoes were cheesy, and packed with flavor. As for the steaks, my 24 oz Bone in Ribeye ordered medium Rare was such a work of art, I barely wanted to cut in to it. I got over that feeling real quick, steak was tender, juicy and so flavorful. I ended up bringing enough home that I was able to squeeze 3 more meals out of it. My wifes Porterhouse, was just as beautiful, just as tender and flavorful. To Cap off the evening, Jaquie brought me a complimentary slice of Carrot Cake for my service anniversary and it was maybe the best Carrot Cake I can recall having (my wife agreed as she pretty much commandeered the whole slice after I had a few bites. My wife was able to squeeze a few more evenings of dessert from the remains of the sizeable slice. When it came time to settle the check , process was easy, and Our server boxed all are numerous leftovers for us. All in all, and absolute fantastic evening of dining ! Had the best experience at council oak steakhouse today! The restaurant itself is gorgeous and elegant looking! Our server ms Shelby was the best! Such a sweet lady that made our dinner awesome. Service was amazing! She was fun to chat with We ordered the ribeye and the pork chop with some mash potatoes and mushrooms as our sides. Oh and we ordered an order of scallops as an appetizer to share .. that was delicious! I would order that again! My pork chop was good and went well with the mash potatoes and mushrooms. This is the upper end Steakhouse restaurant in the Hard Rock Casino. The ambiance is very nice, and for the most part, known for the high quality aged steaks. The presentation and service is also high end, you are never rushed through your meal, and the servers are great. Today we chose the Sunday Special Prime Rib dinner for $39.99, accompanied with a salad, a dollop of mashed potatoes, two spears of asparagus, and a berry pie dessert. Any substitutions are an additional fee. We substituted a salad for soup at an additional $12.00 cost. The rolls are very good as well. Today, the prime rib was tough to cut and chew, even though there were a couple of big chunks of fat. It's usually pretty tender, and very good with the au jus and horseradish sauce. The asparagus was very fresh and was perfect. There were no substitutions for the dessert, and we didn't care too much for the baked berry dessert. Visited this place as I ate the HardRock Council Oak in Ft Lauderdale and that was one of the best steak experiences I've ever had that I went back 3 days in a row. Well, visited the one here in NorCal and not the same experience. The service was good but not to the level I'm used for this kind of steakhouse. The steak was served almost lukewarm instead of hot which was a big let down. Didn't want to send it back since it had already been 50 mins since ordering it. The scallops were good and the seafood chowder was amazing! The sides were great as well. I will certainly want to go back and give it another try because I truly believe they could do better based on the experience at the other HardRock. After a long day of being out and about we ending up at the delicious council Oak steakhouse at the Hard Rock Casino, We didn't have reservations, but we waited a few minutes and were able to sit in the bar area, which is really nice. The bartender that served us was really sweet and I really hope we get to see her again. She did a fantastic job! We ordered the prime rib and shared it and it was very tasty. We had a great dinner before a show at the Hard Rock event center. To stay we had a chopped salad and tandoori shrimp. For our mains we ordered steaks, Brussels sprouts, potatoes au gratin and the peppercorn sauce. Everything tasted great. The ambiance was intimate and a great steakhouse experience. Service was a little slow, but there were lots of other customers trying to hit the dinner-show timeline like we were, and our server was courteous and kind throughout. After the show we returned for dessert and enjoyed a cheesecake, espressos and a glass of port. One diner ordered the pork chop and said it was the best he had ever eaten. Another had the petite filet which was tender. I ordered the shrimp and grits, They were very flavorful and the grits were creamy. A couple ordered the baked potatoes and were pleased with them. The "jumbo" sweet potato with Jack Daniels butter was a big disappointment. It was wasn't much bigger than the filet and the JD butter was almost non-existent. The asparagus was really good. The complimentary rolls were very good but they came with about 1 tablespoon of butter for 6 rolls. The Millionaire Margarita was good but it was in a smaller glass than you would expect for a margarita. The birthday celebrant was given a complimentary creme brûlée and ice cream. Went to dinner with some friends and they were fairly empty but it was a weeknight. The servers were very kind and they were training someone new. It was dark but elegant in the restaurant. We ordered the filet mignon and the burger. The steaks come al la carte and the sides your order separately which is served family style. I didn't really enjoy that because it can be a lot of food if you want multiple sides. Usually with my steak I enjoy a starch and a vegetable and it's just a lot of food. We did have the Brussels sprouts and the au gratin potatoes which were delicious but the side to steak ratio wasn't even for me. My girlfriend and I were making the long trek to the Hard Rock to see Gary Owen perform on 7/19. I booked the restaurant well in advance through Open Table. When we arrived (early for our reservation time) I checked in with the hostess and saw my name on her iPad reservation tablet which noted my reservation time and party size (2). The manager then appeared and stated that we "booked a table in the bar" and they don't offer bar seating. Therefore, our reservation was invalid. If you don't have reservations available, don't give them out. It's not like there are a lot of other fine dining options in Wheatland. I'm not sure what the manager's motivations were for denying us a seat when we had a valid reservation (noted in their system), but he did it. He dismissed us and said "the buffet is open". So if you don't want to be mistreated, or plan a nice evening at this casino, I would recommend eating somewhere else (off property). The bar was pretty busy when I placed my take-out order. This place was pretty busy for a Friday night. Regardless of how busy it was the bartenders were super attentive. Porterhouse - I'm normally a ribeye kind of person but we switched it up and tried the Porterhouse. I was really disappointed. It was cooked perfectly, medium like I ordered but it was so tough and dry. I expected a little more juiciness and flavor since it is dry aged. I should have just stuck with a ribeye. 3. 1/2 lb maine lobster taill - perfectly cooked and was so tender. Dip it in the buttery goodness and your in heaven. 4. Mac and cheese - Cheesy yummy goodness, perfectly cooked. 5. Garlic Mashed potatoes - Who would've thought something so simple can be so satisfying. It was creamy and flavorful. 6. I made reservations, when asked for a booth I was given a "partial" booth with my partner sitting very far across from me. With the very loud music playing it was hard to hear each other. The bread was finally given after 25mins of sitting down. Our actual entrees came out about 40min from ordering.. just our luck our server forgot to order our appetizer so that came shortly after. The crab cakes were not great, had a burner grill taste. They were also in some sort of mandarin and mustard sauce which did not pair well at all in my opinion. The ribeye steak was cooked well and very tender. The sea-bass was cooked great, had a nice sear, but nothing special. I added salt and pepper. I did learn from management that they tend to use more smokey and char feature to their steaks, if you want to try this place I recommend asking for them to explain the process of cooking ; based on which cut you choose, and make it to your liking for it to turn out well. The dinner rolls that was briought to our table was hard and dry. The second batch of assorted breads was way better. The food was delicious, appetizers, entrees and sides. Dessert was delicious BUT our server Nate when he was preparing the tableside banana foster, he did not bother to tell us the story about where and how the banana foster originated from. My daughter and other friends who had dinner there made it a point that one of us should order it for the experience and the story. Yeah well we got nothing! He prepared the dessert and served it to us and briefly told us what was in it. That's really sad that we didn't get the full experience. I hope he wasn't judging us thinking we couldn't afford dinner or he wouldn't get a good tip because we were really nice to him and trees he was tipped well. Our Ceasar salads came with or without anchovies but the dressing was heavy and didn't have that bright citrus tang. We could view the entire kitchen and everyone seemed to be bustling about doing their individual work. The meat is cooked on an open fire grill and temp is checked before serving. We waited for what seemed to be 20 minutes or longer.....then it finally reached the table. The rest of us was nearly done with our meal. (Smh) The waiter seen how disappointed we were and he kindly offered a free dessert on the house. And took the dish off the tab. I had the aged bone-in ribeye, with a bunch of sides and it was almost great. The steak was cooked beautifully, with a fantastic sear and plenty of flavor from the bone. The quality of the meat was undeniable--juicy, tender, and melt-in-your-mouth good. The service was attentive and the ambiance was that of a fine dining steakhouse. The only major opportunity was for the sides. They all tasted like they were just reheated and not made fresh that day which was disappointing. Overall, it was a great steakhouse experience, but with just a little freshness on the sides, it would've been great! read more

Service and the cocktail I ordered was excellent. I had the surf and turf. The 7oz filet was prepared perfectly. It was very flavorful. Unfortunately, the 8 oz lobster tail was shrunken, dry and flavorless from being overcooked and sitting there under the heat lamp while the other items were being prepared. Sadly, I've had better lobster at Sizzler! The dish comes with 2 asparagus spears and a "dollop" of mashed potatoes. It was 2 bites worth. Smallest serving of mashed potatoes that I've ever had! Definitely not worth the $85 price point. This was the second meal in a row at Council Oaks that did not meet my expectations. On balance, I had 2 excellent meals prior. So, bottom line...it left me feeling like the quality control is not what it once was. They should have been embarrassed to serve me that shrunken, dried out crawdad! I can no longer recommend Council Oaks for anything other than steaks. read more
