What a great find. We were fortunate to arrive in time and order from the menu. They had a nice buffet spread, but we wanted select our own choices. It is an excellent menu with some very good choices. I chose a catfish basket and my partner went for a bowl of chilli. The waitress said they were excellent choices and we would be pleased. Indeed we were. I can't really say if I loved the catfish or chilli more. They were both superb. The staff at our request brought more cheese and without asking refilled our waters. The staff is excellent and friendly. Most strongly recommend to make the stop. No doubt there will be no regrets. read more

You know a business is doing things right when you see the surrounding community, including other restaurants, lean in to support Country Bobs through a challenging time. Due to rising costs, they were forced to make adjustments, including offering their complete buffet meals only on the weekends. We stopped in after hearing the owners heartfelt message on social media about the staffing reductions he was forced to make. As usual, we were greeted as soon as we walked in. The seating area was mostly full, even though it was a weekday breakfast. My wife had an omelette and I had the French toast stuffed with cream cheese, which is definitely something to try! The servers are pros...checking in enough without smothering. Something that struck me on this visit was how well the staff treats their senior customers. I saw an elderly lady slowly counting out change to pay her bill. Rather than make her feel rushed, the server behind the counter kept a relaxed conversation going. Let's hope Country Bobs, and other family-friendly restaurants, are able to navigate through this difficult time and thrive in the future. read more

Greetings all. I'm passing through and stopped here for breakfast... What a great place and live that it opens at 6am (7 locals were already sitting when I arrived at 6:02). I had the strawberry French toast with eggs and bacon and was prepared great, and the coffee kept coming. I am sure I will be back as I drive back and forth to NM and this is a great place to eat after spending the night in Marshfield. Very patriotic and quite friendly, much appreciated! read more

This is a very friendly off the beaten path spot, but still easily accessible from Highway 44. I gave it a 5 star rating for the exceptional service we received. When will I learn the book & cover lesson! Take that Tater Patch (Rolla,MO) this little, homey, gem a few miles off I-44 (old route 66) knows how to treat a stranger. In this case a mixed couple [Never Trump Republican & Democrat], big city, fancy bikes strapped on the back of their sensible sedan. We were greeted, seated, served with a great smile and plenty of home spun welcome. This was a very pleasant experience from start to finish. My wife got a BLT & fries, I got my pork tenderloin sandwich & fries. Everything was fresh, hot and delivered quickly. The bill was so reasonable we tipped 100%. If we are ever in this area again, we will be back. If you like veterans (Vietnam, Korea, WWII?) then this is your place. It is down the road from the Missouri Veterans Home. What a great random find. So glad we stopped in for lunch. Kathy greeted us with a smile and took our order. I had the best hamburger steak with mushroom gravy ever. Th mashed potatoes were very tasty and you could taste that the gravy was fresh made. The dinner roll that came with it was a delight. My dad and I have eaten breakfast here on several occasions. We usually order the breakfast special, which includes 2 eggs any style, your choice of bacon, ham or sausage, hash browns or country fried potatoes, and biscuits or toast. Today the price was $5.99. They also have a breakfast buffet bar for a couple of dollars more. The food is good--freshly cooked and tasty. They coffee is typical American coffee, and they continually refill your cup. The staff is very friendly. In terms of good places for price/quality for breakfast in the St. James and Cuba areas, it's the best I've experienced. We tried Huddle House, Hardee's, McDonalds and a couple of local places in Steelville. I personally prefer Country Bob's. Each time I've been there they advertise fresh homemade pies. I bought my dad a whole coconut cream pie. That is his favorite pie, so he has experience with different coconut pies. He loved this one. By the end of the morning they begin putting out their lunch buffet. I haven't tried it, but it looks like they offer a good variety and it all looks freshly made in their kitchen. read more

So...short story long...every time we travel anywhere (this time it was Indiana to Arkansas and back) we seek out non chain, mom and pop places to eat at. I always pull up my Yelp app and start searching along our route for whatever new little gem I might find. I spend ages reading reviews trying to find the perfect little spot. This time I seriously hit the jackpot! First of all, when I read the review about the power outages and the owners making sure their doors were open for anyone to come, warm up and eat I was sold. This is what it's all about...being neighborly and looking out for each other. As I continued reading review after amazing review I knew we had to stop at Country Bob's! Our waitress was absolutely lovely...the exact type of gal you'd expect to have wait on you at this type of place...warm, sweet, makes you feel like your at her place for Sunday dinner. The icing on the cake was the owners little girl "helping" her out the entire time...it was the sweetest thing. We barely looked at the menu because after my husband and son looked at the buffet they were sold! The mashed potatoes and gravy were absolutely wonderful! The fried chicken was moist and flavorful as was the catfish. There were so many things we couldn't try them all but what we did have was just super! Fried okra was spot on! Chicken and dumplings...OMG! SO GOOD! After multiple trips up and barely being able to think about eating more much less actually eating more we decided we also had to try the dessert bar...my husband, who is absolutely not a dessert eater, couldn't get enough of the cheesecake like dessert. It. Was. So. Good! I had a huge pieces that my son helped me eat and though the kid was full he kept eating more amongst cries of "I'm so full but I can't stop." Now that we're driving away I wish I had tried the brownies too because there's no way they wouldn't have been awesome! Stopped by today while driving through Rolla and seeing billboards advertising their pie. First the good. Catfish was very tasty and the portion of onion rings in the side order was generous. Now the not so good. Chicken wings were oily and cooked without any seasoning. Came with a bowl of bbq sauce on the side (odd). The rest of the food was ok st best. The most unfortunate part of the experience was the pie. The chocolate pie consistency was way too rubbery. Even worse the lemon merengue pie had almost no lemon flavor and the corn starch in the lemon layer was noticeable. The lemon should be sweet and tart/sour but this lemon was worse that store bought lemon pudding - it had almost no taste except for grainy corn starch. And I was looking forward to some tasty pie! Went to the dinner buffet ($9.00) on a Saturday night and the country home-cookin' was delicious. They have a salad buffet, fried catfish, barbecue ribs, fried chicken, corn, and dessert. The servers are friendly and let you know when they are putting away food. They also have homemade pies for you to take home. Many of the locals know about this place and it gets crowded. Make sure to come earlier (4 - 6 PM) when they put out the food. Dinner Buffet is Friday and Saturday 4 - 8 PM. Breakfast Buffet is Saturday and Sunday 7 -10:30 AM. My son had fond memories of eating here a couple years ago, but this restaurant has gone downhill since then. Disappointing meal this time. Food was not warm, biscuits and gravy didn't contain sausage. Breakfast scramble was covered in plasticky American cheese. Service was good and restaurant was clean, but no mask wearing by any of the staff. I've unfortunately had a better breakfast at Cracker Barrel. read more

Yum Yum Yum! Country Bob's is my family's favorite place to stop while traveling. They had an unbelievable brunch buffet with pancakes, french toast, eggs, bacon, sausage and also fried chicken, catfish, mashed potatoes and many other items that I cannot even begin to list. There was also a strawberry shortcake bar with multiple toppings. ($8.39 adults, $5.99 kids). My kids got the buffet, my husband got the fried shrimp special and I had the chicken tenders special. We've been here a few times and I've had mixed experiences here, but better than not over all. I'd give breakfast three stars and our lunches here 5, so I used a four for my rating. The breakfast buffet was a bit so-so and some dishes were lukewarm, not hot or particularly well flavored. For example, cheesy hashbrown casserole. Could have been stellar, easily but was mediocre and cool to the temp. However the fried catfish was spectacular and even reheated in the oven and morphed into fish tacos deliciously the next day. Slaw and fries were good. I preferred the filet fish dinner over the fish strips basket and the serving seemed like a better value. Service has always been friendly and helpful. Damn good food. Stopped for dinner after seeing the billboard on the highway. Before exiting I looked up reviews and they were spot on. Delicious food (great buffet). Wonderful people from our host to all the servers, they made us feel welcome the first step in. The prices were great and the parking lot was full, for us that's always an excellent statement of where the locals frequent. Homemade desserts, terrific onion rings and yeast rolls to die for. Normally I like to add photos when I post a review, but I forgot to take one. Country Bob's is a great little spot tucked a couple miles off of I44. It is definitely worth the time if you are in the area. I was visiting the area from Omaha and this place was suggested by quite a few locals. The menu is full of yummy and the buffet definitely worth a try. I chose the Buffett to try more of what they had to offer. One side is breakfast the other dinner. I enjoyed the catfish, fried chicken and Spanish rice. read more
