Just to update this so its more relevant to present day - this place continues to do a brisk business. We still only stop in for breakfast and it's now very rare due to the increase in the costs. I'm not sure what happened but the breakfasts easily exceed $75 not including tip - which is outrageous and disappointing considering that the food is pretty good. If this is not an issue for you, I still recommend it - but dropping that much breakfast is just not cool for our family of four. read more

Like the other reviewers said, this is a pretty typical diner most of the day. Their breakfast specials, however, are awesome! I've had organic blueberry pancakes that were fantastic, and several friends I've brought there have had amazing breakfast specials as well. If you go, make sure you ask for the specials! read more

I go here for breakfast all the time. Pretty solid breakfast. My only complaint would be that they are pricey. Expect to pay $40+ for 3 breakfast's. The lady that owns is always there and quite nice. No waffles after 12, as they turn the machine off. I dont understand that but ok. They do take your order and get your food to you pretty fast. read more

By far the best place for miles. Food never disappoints, the atmosphere is so welcoming, and the family (and always present) owners are so kind and so full of warmth. They clearly cook with love. What more could you ask for. Try the eggs benedict for breakfast, you can't go wrong. The freshly baked homemade bread is always a plus, and the fact that they know my son's name and ask about school, etc. is fabulous. I eat here at least once a week. read more

This is the best diner in town, dont let anyone tell you otherwise! Walking in the door you are greeted by a family that is always happy to see you. The menu is general diner comfort food, with a huge specials list that never disappoints. Our standard order usually includes a chicken pot pie, by far the best meal on the menu. Additionally we've had the fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, salads, and the accompanying soups are fantastic as well. Dont forget the rice pudding after dinner! read more

A nice building with nice staff but fair to poor food. I had fish and chips where I could barely find the fish in the heavy undercooked batter. Someone in my party had stuffed shrimp that were so over cooked they could barely be chewed and another had lasagna which was loaded with undercooked pasta. Just crap. Service very good. However, food was mostly mediocre. Ham dinner w/ pineapple rings was actually shaved deli slices of ham served with canned fruit cocktail on top! Yuk. Bland turkey dinner was super-soaked with gravy, so much gravy that I actually had acid reflux on the way home. Turkey club sandwich was very good. This is the second time the food here has made me ill. (Had a bad experience with fish here about a year ago.) No bread basket. Also found it unappetizing to be eating lunch & see staff putting chairs on top of placemats at empty tables so they could clean the floors Sunday afternoon. The staff is always very friendly and efficient here. I've only come for breakfast, but everything I have had has been good. I won't say blow me out of the water good, but decent diner food good. I love the blueberry blintzes and they make the best bacon egg and cheese sandwiches. My husband is a huge fan of the chili cheese omelet. The food always comes out very quick. They are always busy, but I've never had to wait for a table. All in all, it's a pleasant place to grab breakfast on a weekend morning. read more

I remember when this dinner opened up about 10ish years ago when I was in jr. high. I agree with the last reviewer, it's pretty much a typical dinner. I find the prices to be somewhat overpriced for what/ where it is, but ya know support local places when you can, even though the economy sucks. The owners seem very nice and are always friendly. I used to order stuff to go when I was in a rush in high school and they did it very fast (granted I usually ordered like a grilled cheese and fries or something). Love this place. It definitely has a diner atmosphere but the food is so much better. The main menu has more of a diner food selection, but the specials are what you should look at first. I have never been disappointed with anything I've ordered off either menu. The specials are more expensive then classic diner food, but worth the price for the quality of what you are getting, and you will need to take half home. I had lunch there again yesterday with my 50th high school reunion committee. We meet there because the service and food is so good. Some of us drive an hour to get there. On many occasions I also use a booth for business meetings. We are never hurried out of there and they keep our coffee cup or glass of water full. I was very upset with a recent visit. A friend and I had a couple of sandwiches (okay but a little pricey ) and two cokes. Then a couple of refills each. When the bill came the numbers weren't close to adding up. The sodas were $2.00 - a little high BUT what they did is charge us for the two refills each. That came to an extra $8.00. Virtually every place around here has free refills, especially when they charge $2.00. Not this place. The Bethany diner charges full price for each refill. Now the few other places that do this, the waitress will ALWAYS notify us that refills are free. Not this place. Prehaps it was because the waitress was ALSO the owners daughter. BEWARE: 4 cups of orange juice totals to around 16 dollars! The waitress there ASKED if we wanted refills on our juice, not telling us there would would be a 4 dollar charge to fill up HALF the cup. When I asked about the bill the waitress told me I was paying for the "convenience of a diner". Next time I will bring my own beverages IF I choose to return. For 3 teens, the bill came to 53 dollars for half descent food. On another note: the pancakes and bacon were under done. Food overpriced for what you receive. Have dined in and taken out. On takeout, the bread given with the meal were ALL end pieces. It was like the left over bread from all other dine in customers. This diner is only getting one star because our waitress was great. However, I can't say the same for our visit yesterday. We arrived around noon and asked about specials and were handed a sheet of items. Some had prices next to them and some didn't. The owner, who gave us the list, said she hadn't finished it, yet, but the prime rib clearly had $13.95 written right next to it. My husband ordered it. Service was excellent and the food was really good - we've been coming to this diner for some time on a fairly regular basis and that made what happened next all the more upsetting. When the bill came, the prime rib was priced at $25.95. I asked the owner if this was a mistake and she said no. I requested that she check her specials sheet and she went and got one from a party that had just been seated. I pointed to the item and told her we would not have ordered it if we knew it was $25.95 (it was a good size, but not worth that much). I asked her to change the price and when she refused, after consulting with another waitress, I then suggested that she at least reduce the price, since it was their mistake. Again she refused. I did not want to cause a scene, but told her we would never be back and paid the bill. I wonder how many other unsuspecting diners got duped into ordering the "$13.95" prime rib special? Positive: The atmosphere and layout are nice, and they offer freshly baked loaves of bread every week that are really good, if you happen to arrive on the day that they are baked (Thursday?). Not so good: Of the three times I've been here, every time I end up leaving with the feeling I have been overcharged for a mediocre meal. In our last visit, Debbie (our waitress) never so much as smiled, and made us feel like we were just another annoying part of her day. There are NO substitutions, so if you want to change something about your meal (which we did) you will get charged for the entire meal (including the items you didn't want or receive) and then full price for the substitutions. Breakfast for two came to just over $30. (!) There are just too many other friendly, accomodating restaurants in the area (Grace's in Milldale comes to mind) where you are made to feel welcome and they don't mind customizing a meal to your liking - in comparison, this is not a good overall value. read more

Nom Nom. This place is pretty badass. The Eggs Benedict is banging. The way the food comes out so fast is seriously awesome. I came here with my boyfriend & his family (8 of us all together) and I'm not joking when I say the food came out in under 12 mins. We were all impressed with our food too! When a man ran in the front door requesting the chicken pot pie I knew that I had to order it. I was delighted to find an authentic chicken pot pie from the old country with fresh ingredients that may have been the best I ever had. I wish I had room for the homemade stuffed cabbage I heard someone else raving about but I'll just have to wait until I'm the guy who runs in the front door asking if the stuffed cabbage is ready! This place features good, homemade food that tastes like you are home. The waitstaff is quick, efficient and friendly. I met up with a friend for lunch and we both ended up getting stews. Hers was a beef stew which she devoured... Enough said? I got the lamb stew. Delicious. My scoop was a little potatoe heavy but overall I really enjoyed the meal. We'll probably meet up here for another meal - we were drooling over the hamburgers that were on the menu but since it was St. Patrick's Day we wanted to celebrate the holiday!
