Just a weird place. Odd music, strange vibe. Ridiculously large portions. But all kind of meh. The bread, the mashed potatoes, the chicken noodle soup, the cole slaw and even the lamb shank. I just feel like they are trying to hard. Might be much better with a more limited menu. I might have been better off getting eggs and corned beef hash. But wasn't in the mood. When you think of your favorite restaurant, what comes to mind? Is it the food and the price? Is it that the people there remember you and make you want to visit more often? Is it that everyone seems to leave in a better mood than when they arrived? Or is it something you just can't quite put your finger on? Full disclosure: I love Country Corner. I'm biased. My review is shaped by a feeling that I can't quantify in one good meal or one positive experience. This is a family-owned restaurant that welcomed me and my partner as soon as we walked through the door two years ago. We weren't sure what to expect from a diner in a small town outside of New Haven, and since he's a pancake connoisseur with no patience for mediocre breakfasts, the pressure was on. We had just moved back to the area from Chicago and he wasn't convinced he'd find a place he loved in his newly adopted state. I still remember our first order: I got an amazing swordfish florentine (even though it was only 11 am) and he got pancakes that made him want to come back. All the time. Since then, we've returned as often as we can even though we live a good distance from Bethany. The Country Corner family always remembers us and what we've ordered (and loved) in the past. When we ordered take-out during Covid, the food was just as delicious and they always surprised us with a dessert or side that they knew we would love. If you've been here before, you know that they have mastered many different kinds of food, from incredibly fresh seafood to signature Greek specials, fresh pasta dishes, and the best (and most unusual) chicken pot pie I've ever tasted. It's as if they've tested their food with a focus group to figure out what people will love, only they don't use focus groups because that's what chain restaurants do and this is the furthest thing in the world from a chain restaurant. If you've ever lived somewhere and made a point to bring friends from out of town to a place you know they'll enjoy, then you'll understand why we love Country Corner. We've never left here disappointed, and sometimes we make the trek just because we want to end the week on a better note than when it started. We were lucky to find Country Corner and we look forward to visiting lots more. We could not be more grateful that the family who owns this gem puts so much love into what they do. read more

Seriously forget the word " diner" in this instance! It's fancy restaurant quality flavors with a menu to boast a very talented chef. This was my 3rd or 4th visit and I'm ashamed it's taken me this long to write a review. The very first time I ate here I ordered the special quesadillas. As we all know, quesadillas are pretty basic, unassuming and hard to wow. Well I was wrong. The quesadillas were huge and the fillings were succulent, but the house made pico de gallo was a super star of flavor mixed perfectly with heat and the burst of cilantro. That first visit made me come back..... Today I came with my sister for lunch and was overwhelmed at the wide variety of options. I could not resist the French onion soup, which was top 10 of any I've ever tried and trust me....I try it everywhere. I ordered a grilled chicken panini that had pesto, roasted peppers, jalapenos, and fresh mozzarella. It was huge! Chicken on a panini is very hard to pull off .. this was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The chicken was moist and placed perfectly so the sandwich didn't fall apart and all the flavors came through on every bite. My sister ordered the lamb shanks for her husband to go, and I watched the meat fall off the bone, they looked too good to be true. This is a gem of a place and the service is exceptional. This quaint diner is a "family" place to go to for breakfast. (We have not tried their lunch or dinner menu). We have eaten here several times and have been very satisfied. Their staff is friendly and personable. Their portion sizes are big & at a reasonable price, they offer outdoor dining, plenty of hand sanitizer for your safety, and they were consistently cleaning. Thank you for keeping your customers safe!! This Sunday, we ordered the Country Corner Special Omelette with sausage, bacon, mushrooms, onions & peppers & a BLT sandwich (coleslaw and pickle) with a side of home fries (huge plate enough for -2 people). The food was just average this time. They used canned mushrooms in the omelette. The onions and peppers could have been sautéed more for my taste. I would not order that particular omelette again, but I would definitely go back to try something else. read more

Our go-to Diner In the area. We've been coming here for 20 years and are always made to feel like family by the owners. The service is always great and the food consistently good. They're very accommodating for specific dietary needs or likes/dislikes (for example they'll always serve my eggs on a separate plate as I don't eat the egg-white). Today I had their Special - Eggs Benedict with Crab Cakes which was almost $20 but worth every penny as the cakes were almost 100% crab with just enough filler to hold them together (the picture looks a little odd since my egg was separate as I said - by request) but the dish was delicious! Belgian waffles are a regular choice, as are their omelette and pancakes. Another guilty pleasure that is my regular choice - their Lox Bagel! With smoked salmon, cream cheese, tomatoes, onions, kalamata olives and a stuffed grape leaf it'll get your taste buds tingling! We'll keep going here as long as they keep doing it right!! read more

We love this restaurant. Our family has been going there for 20 years. The food is simply great and there is a nice ambiance to the place. There is so much to choose from on the menu and the daily specials. My younger son loves their baby back ribs and the fact that the folks who are serving us remember that makes him feel real special. The food here is absolutely fantastic! We have been coming here for many years and every year it just gets better and better. We recently had the Cajun salmon with mango salsa and it was absolutely amazing! The staff is so fast and friendly, greet you with a smile and make you feel right at home. This is my favorite diner period. They ingredients are fresh and of the highest quality. Everything I have tried here is wonderful from the fresh roasted turkey club, to the homemade corned beef hash to the burgers to the wonderful fish and chips (tip - ask for light batter). The servers are gracious and kind and the atmosphere is comfy and homey. The specials are always plentiful and terrific (most recent trip was the chicken pot pie and the French dip sandwich). What a TERRIBLE Experience!!!!!! With Covid, and many orders being takeout, one would thing an eating establishment would take EXTREME EXTRA CARE to get the orders correct. Well, after having been to this establishment several times, The got our take out order wrong, $57 worth of food (A Little overpriced anyway I think), but they Puucked up EVERY Entree!!!!!. Explicitly told order person I could not eat Swiss cheese, American please.... SWISS. My wife doesn't eat starch, so askes "No Corn, double zuchinni please", Got corn and butternut squash ????? My mother in laws Raviolies were also not as described. This weekend was my birthday, I usually don't leave reviews but I have to today. I could have went anywhere for my birthday but I choose COUNTRY CORNER IN BETHANY, Ct... I've eaten there several times and every time 100% homemade and delicious. The food is awesome and service was great ( I believe Quazzi waited on me ) so sweet, friendly and paid so much attention to my needs. Again the quality and the amount of food you get awesome. I have a update, very important people wanted to go out to dinner with myself and my husband ( there where 7 of us ) we wanted to go somewhere so we can get caught up with life and impress our guests so we went to country corner. AGAIN SO PLEASANT, so ACCOMMODATING & SANDY ( I believe the owner along with her family) made so many suggestions to us about all of her many , many homemade plates and bread she herself made !!! Don't eat here unless you are want hot, delicious food served by a friendly wait staff that are there to make your dining experience one that you will keep you coming back for more. Our group had breakfast and loved it so much that we came back for dinner. We would highly recommend the pancakes, waffles, omelets and breakfast potatoes as well as the muffins. For dinner check out the specials which are numerous and incredible. Desserts are also a must. I just can't recommend this restaurant enough and we will definitely be back frequently. read more

Where do I begin.. I had no idea what to expect when I first visited Country Corner Diner, but I was wonderfully amazed. The food is dwon home cooking like my Grandmother used to make. Everything I've tried thus has been fresh, and and basically farm-to -table; I really cant believe it. A lot of diners and restaiurants advertise Home-Cooking, however fall short. Ciuntry corner is the real thing. From the Chicken Pot-Pie, the Home-Made Meatloaf to the Beef Stew, you cant go wrong. The portions are usueally enough to feed 2-people and Im taking leftovers home often. The waitstaff always greet with a smile and are extremely welcoming, making sure all of my needs are met before I get up and go. As far as the prices, for what you get in terms of quality and portion size, you cant beat it. That being said, I've stopped in for a quick sandwhich for lunch today, something people don't normally expect from a diner, and I was of course accommodated, in and out in no time. My wife and I had a late breakfast at Country Corner this past Sunday. I've eaten here before and have delivered their kitchen supplies when I worked in that field. One thing I will tell you from my experiences is that the kitchen and storage area is spotless, as is the dining area. Food is homemade, no cold cuts. Portions are very generous, and prices are quite reasonable. Staff is always friendly. Why settle for a generic diner with a wait and an uncaring staff when you can take a short ride to the Country Corner for food like mom used to make? Absolutely going back soon. read more

I've been here before, but, not since Covid. We went about 6:30, for dinner. -noticed that in the entrance was a table with different hand sanitizers. They sat us by the counter; not in the main dining room. It looked as if they arranged the tables differently, to space them out. First, we were ok, because we were the only ones by the counter; then a person sat at the counter, pretty close to us, then the other booths behind us became full, then one of the waitresses sat at the counter, working, but, again, so close to us. The food was delicious, as always, I'm just writing about their Covid safety. The waitress played with their masks a lot, & spent most of the time taking them off their faces. The owner, at the hostess stand, who was handing several customers takeout boxes, & being the cashier never had a mask on. There is no plexiglass in between booths or tables, & as it became too crowded, with people so close to us, & people sitting back to back at the booths; we hurried our dinner to leave, as we walked by people, sitting at the counter, not eating, just talking to other patrons, with no masks on. If we can't trust the staff to keep us safe, & enforce mask wearing as much as possible. We won't be patronizing them again, & we will tell others here, In case they are worried about staying safe, while eating. I'm disappointed that such a family owned restaurant would be not acting safely. read more

Our family enjoyed a lovely lunch here today, on a very busy day. There were several tree company employees eating at the restaurant, due to their work in the area after the recent ice storm. The staff was pleasant and friendly to all, despite being busy. They serve breakfast all day (Belgian waffles and eggs Benedict only until noon each day), so one of us opted for an omelet with corned beef hash. Our other three meals consisted of chicken souvlaki, a buffalo chicken wrap, and a corned beef and pastrami sandwich. French fries were very good. The menu is expansive and provides more than enough options for everybody. Portions were good and everything was served hot and delicious. We had a lovely server who was efficient and friendly, and good with refilling coffee and water. She also didn't make us feel rushed at all. We will be back next time we are in the area! read more

Last week we stopped in because we really wanted to eat out. The COVID protocol were adhered to strictly which we really appreciated. I ordered a Zupa de Pecse with Fra Diavolo sauce. I know this is not typical diner food but I also knew they get their seafood daily from City Fish Market so gave it a try. It was AMAZING! The chef is a chef and while they have a lot of great homey diner foods, the dinner foods are very high quality and prepared by an excellent chef. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again but we were in the area (visiting Whitlock Book Barn) and starving. If I'd go back, I'd definitely try their Greek specials. read more
