Solidly good donuts in Elgin. An institution. I highly recommend the strawberry frosted (so sweet) and the double chocolate (cakey and rich). Quick service. Very affordable prices. I will be back for more donuts and to try out the breakfast service.

    Breakfast sandwich yummy!

The best donuts around! The breakfast sandwiches are so good! A real egg, plentiful bacon or sausage and cheese on a croissant or English muffin. The drive thru goes pretty quick and always friendly service. The apple cider and pumpkin donuts are addictively delicious!

Stopped by this donut shop after eating at a nearby restuarant. They also have a drive thru but I enjoy going inside donut shops to see. It is a cute place that looks like an old school diner. It is popular, we waited our turn to purchase donuts. I got an old fashioned and a apple cinnamon one. They are decently priced and I enjoyed the texture of the donuts. The workers were helpful and moved as quickly as they could to keep the line and drive thru moving.

All day long I just wanted a good fried donut but the universe seemed to be conspiring to keep any and all delectable doughs out of my reach. My plans to stop by 4 different spots were thwarted again and again by early Sunday closing times and even a permanent closure. I had just about resigned myself to sadly going to Dunkin' after pulling up to my last option, a pricey but good specialty Korean donut shop in St. Charles, only to find that they were already sold out for the day. I'd come so far. I had to try at least one more search. And that's when a beacon of red hope lit up on my Yelp map screen. "Country Donuts." Just a 15 minute drive away in Elgin. It was not only well-reviewed but supposedly open 24 hours! It sounded too good to be true. Could it really be or was it just some kind of mirage caused by donut deprivation? I had been burned too many times this day so I called ahead to double-check they were in fact a real establishment and was overjoyed when a lovely voice assured me that they were in fact open 24 hours and had plenty of donuts still available past 5pm on a Sunday. I made the drive over and there was my saving grace tucked away at the end of an unassuming strip mall. I noted a family savoring their order in the truck parked next to me as I pulled in and grew excited. Walking in I was surprised to find a he place had the welcome feel of a cozy diner. And then there just past the register was a generously stocked wall of various donuts glowing in the soft light. Initially was going to just grab 2 or 3 but decided on a whim to go with the dozen when I remembered that I had a family cookout to stop by later. They seemed to be a hit. I cut them into halves so that people could sample more than one and every donut I tasted was great. Looking back I should have just ordered another 12 given that it was only $14! I had several people asking me where I had procured this delicious dozen. The vanilla long john, powdered Bavarian and apple cider flavors were standouts to me. I am so happy to have discovered Country Donuts but also a little scared that I may find myself very soon making many a long drive to satisfy my donut needs.

I was super excited the other day when our office ordered Country Donuts for coffee and donuts day. I love it when they spend a little more (over Dunkin) and get the good stuff. The donuts are always a hit. They taste fresh, have lots of frosting and sprinkles, and are plenty big. I'm not much of a coffee drinker but others enjoyed the coffee. I highly recommend Country Donuts! Whether in the store or at the office, everyone wins with Country Donuts!

Fear not, Sweets by Kash to the rescue!!! I called Lindsey up about 3.5 months out from our wedding date and explained everything. She did say that was not her specialty, but man she hit it out of the park! We were having a small wedding and wanted to have cheesecake as our "cake". We already had a sweets table and wanted to beef up the options for guests, as well as pay homage to our first date. Our first date was at the Cheesecake Factory and we thought it would be perfect for us. It was easy to set up a tasting. We chose to pick up the cheesecake from Lindsey and have a little date night at home and test it all out. The packaging was super cute and the decorations on top were beautiful. But the flavors, WOW! I think cheesecake is so underrated. It's rich and creamy and is such a great dessert. We devoured the tasting cheesecake in a few days LOL. Honestly, with how simple everything was to set up and get answers to our questions immediately, I knew we had someone good. But the flavors, MMMMMMMMM!!! We didn't even finish an entire piece and I knew Lindsey was the baker for us. We love to support local businesses as well, so in the end everything worked out. So we booked Sweets by Kash and had her deliver to our venue and set up the cheesecake for us. They were all so beautiful and we got so many compliments on the taste. We ordered chocolate chip cheesecake and Oreo, as well as a gluten free chocolate chip cheesecake. Our GF guests really appreciated being able to eat a dessert in its entirety and said it was outstanding. We opted to save the top so we could enjoy that deliciousness all weekend, but someone walked away with it sadly. I will absolutely placing an order so we can celebrate our wedding anniversary with our special cheesecake (and no, I will not be waiting an entire year, because that cheesecake is too dang good to wait!). Thank you Lindsey for being amazing to work with and I don't have the professional photos back yet, but if you zoom in on this one, you can see the lovely set up in the background.

Kari's Rating 9.9/10…read more TLDR: -Seriously my favorite bakery ever and I'm a bakery connoisseur -The flakiest most delicious pastries -Handcrafted sweets and made to order cakes This is my absolute favorite bakery to go to when I am home in Barrington. I've been coming to ambrosia for at least 20 years since my childhood, and this bakery never disappoints. The only reason it didn't get a 10 out of 10 was because sometimes they're closed on days when I need them open, and I find myself to be extremely disappointed I forgot to read the website! Of course error on my side! I remember coming here before I was tall enough to peep over the pastry case, and I've always been so fascinated by the little show window where they have cake decorating or someone demonstrating how to roll pastries-what an art! My number one pastry that I come here for is the ham and cheese croissant. Ambrosia's ham and cheese croissant is the flakiest most savory ham and cheese croissant I've ever had. They don't add any mustard or gimmicks and yet it is so flaky and savory that it doesn't need an extra dash of flavor. I know for a while they were making them smaller, but this time I came, I realized that the ham and cheese croissants are bigger than ever-which probably makes me think they've gone up in price, but I will happily pay the up charge for a little more. Now that I am older, and I have adult money, I find myself going in and trying one new item to add to my repertoire of treats. Today's new addition was the almond Bear-claw which I already had extremely high hopes for because I do love a good almond croissant, but I was a little worried what bear-claw meant. Truthfully, it just meant the shape of the pastry as it still had the classic buttery flaky crust, as well as a sweet almond interior. I was not disappointed! I did end up bringing home four ham and cheese croissants, an ambrosia roll for my dad, the almond Bear-claw, and two freshly made baguettes. I come home relatively frequently, but every time this bakery is added to my morning agenda, I realize I have such few moments left with my family, and I want to cherish them all and I love that ambrosia has been that tradition for us. I feel like most bakeries I go into in the city are mass produced and everyone is just trying to place orders and then rushing to get out the door, but ambrosia the workers really try to make you feel seen and have a way to uplifting conversation with you. Through all of the order, placing chaos, they're willing to explain what's in everything, what's new on the menu or what flavor profile would go with which handcrafted drink. There's a certain side of human conversation to this bakery that makes this visit extra special for me. I can sense everything is made overnight and then baked in the morning, so as soon as you walk in, you can smell an overwhelming bakery scent, which only makes your mouth water more, which I'm starting to think is actually a really strategic sales tactic! Haha! I would never miss a chance coming back here and spending time my parents and picking up a few surprise treat for them. I will keep the tradition of picking up a few extra treats as I would love for this bakery to continue being something my whole family can look forward to whenever I come home

We also picked up some almond croissants and chocolate croissants and both were delish... to me they were a bit on the smaller side though. The cafe is really cute and clean with a sitting area. We came an hour before closing, so options were limited but they do have a big display case and would love to go back and check out what else they have to offer. I am a fan of flourless cake- so hoping to get to try a slice the next visit.
