Food was ok. Service was terrible and the atmosphere was like it was a bother being there

The story of Country House Cafe is one that I really, and I mean REALLY like, as it has all of the elements of the 'American Dream': To wit; - Diana meets Pedro Sanchez while both are working at local restaurant Homero Yellow Rose. Diana waited tables while Pedro cooked everything from America fare to their wonderful Tex-Mex. After several years of working together, they marry. - Fast FWD to 2020 - as the Yellow Rose was forced to close due to COVID-19 in March 2020 for 4 months. As a result, this hard working family is left with no way to pay rent, nor care of their kids, - As their close-knit, extended family was ALSO impacted - including brothers Christian, Salvador and father Hector - Diana and Pedro hatched a plan, - Diana & Pedro put their dreams for house plans on HOLD and went ALL IN on their own restaurant, - The Sanchez family - along with brothers and extended family - open Country House Cafe in June 2020. In Oct. 2020, as I am arriving into town on SH 148 to visit my mother, I am greeted by a new restaurant on the horizon: The Country House Cafe. I am excited for this new choice in Terrell. Being a Friday night, my Mom and I made a bee line for their All You Can Eat Catfish, $11.99. This dish featured several nice, lightly breaded filets, and 2 sides - for which I chose hushpuppies and cole slaw. We both really liked our dishes and enjoyed meeting this great family. If fact, we liked it SO much, my mom and I returned for Sat. AM breakfast too! I had the Migas plate (go figure, it was legit!) and also added some of their amazing homemade salsa. Mom opted for some healthy fare in a dinner salad with an avocado (see the pic) - which she also enjoyed. On both visits, I was impressed with how this family owned restaurant greeted each customer who entered as well as the attentive service. A+++ In summary, Country House Cafe features an impressively wide variety of America comfort food + legit Tex-Mex dishes at a great value with their nice sized portions. I can't wait to go back and support this locally owned business. ----------------- NOTE; During the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, this restaurant has physically distanced the tables, all employees are wearing masks and they are constantly cleaning - which made me and my 83 y/o Mom very comfortable eating indoors here. My wife and I stopped here tonight on our way to Dallas. I saw the good reviews and decided to give this place a try instead of fast food... it is worth every star We both got the Julien's special with rice, mashed potatoes, green beans, and peaches. It was delicious- not greasy or heavy- cooked to perfection with great flavor. The atmosphere is peaceful. The service is fast. Waiters are attentive and everyone is overall very friendly. Perfect for families with kids as well. We will absolutely come here again, and will recommend to friends. read more

Love this place, everything is so good, I've never had anything I was disappointed with. The salads are good, the Tex-mex is good, you can tell their ranch is housemade, and the pie is great. Love this little home town hole in the wall. read more

We happened to drive by and saw the parking lot full. Great country cooking and Tex-mex. The iced tea was fresh and cold. I had grilled pork chops and a baked potato. Excellent service and fast! I highly recommend Country House Cafe! read more

We were in the neighborhood and checked yelp for suggestions for lunch. The Country House came up 5 stars so we tried them. Its a small diner type place I've passed many times but the food was awesome. Mom had chicken fried steak and I had the fish. I substituted onion rings and I was so glad! Food was good and service equally good. Hubs got chicken fried steak and I cheese enchilada dinner. Fresh salsa and not stingy with cheese in my enchiladas, as are some. CFS was tender and sides were good as well. Very friendly folks and we will go again if we return to Terrell. read more

Don't pass this place by just because it looks like a small place. The food is so good. It's country cooking with a tex mex twist. I had the caldo de res, and it was the best beef soup I've ever had. The broth was very beefy and tasty. The meat was in big chunks and very tender. They have homemade fries which were delicious. Definitely coming back!! read more

I cannot believe all the positive reviews for this place. I went there with my family right after they opened and the mexican food was horrible. You can go to any of the other 15 mexican restaurants in town and get way better food than this. The service wasn't good either. So fast forward a few months and I decided to give them another try and take my family to try out some of the all-you-can-eat catfish. First off it was at least 80 degrees in this place and I was hot as hell when it was in the mid 60's outside. I am not an obese person either...I work out several times a week and I am very fit. So when we finally got our food I was burning up and completely soaked with sweat. I ate my initial plate of fish, which was actually pretty good, and that was it. Yeah as a rule of thumb I know that you cannot take food with you, if it's an all-you-can-eat special, but it's not like I had 4 plates of it. So I was soaking wet from sweating so much so I simply asked if there was any way I could just get a couple of pieces of fish to go and they said NO...you have to eat it there. Then I told them that me and my family just wouldn't be returning again. Just like so many other restaurants Terrell the management that runs this place simply has no idea what is involved in good customer service. read more

While traveling from Little Rock to our Austin area home often, we like to try out places with 5 star ratings. This place has a huge menu! Love TexMex and theirs is the best I've had in a long time. Best breakfast I have ever had an I am a food snob! Me and my wife were working in the area (from Greenville) and decided to stop in for breakfast. This place is clean. The food is fantastic. They seasoned perfectly and cooked it just as ordered. The staff was also great. We received much attention without being overwhelmed. Unbelievable scratch kitchen, I feel like I am eating in my dinning room - the people cooking and serving and hosting my meal really makes me feel like I am eating at home. You will not regret one meal!!!! Best place in Terrell as far as I am concerned. read more
