We went here for a cupcake tasting for our wedding . The cupcakes were undeniably delicious. In fact, they were among the best we've had (and living in Chicago, we've had our fair share of cupcakes)! However, the owner was there when we got there, did not introduce herself to us, and walked out before our tasting because her child was sick (understandable). The problem was that she left us in the hands of a very nice, yet completely unknowledgable girl. When you go in for a wedding tasting, lots of logistics and questions need to be laid out. It's a huge decision and a big financial gain by the company if we book it. Apparently, the owners do not care too much about that. They were supposed to follow up with us in the following few days, but never did. SIX weeks later, the owner emailed us to know if we are going to book them- what?! It's sad that a small business like this that tastes so good and has a good mantra will more than likely not be successful for long with this type of customer service. Go there for a cupcake or two, but never look into booking this business for an event. Get someone reliable and that cares about you, the customer. read more

Nice big windows to watch the train and people going by, a mix of high and low top tables plus a cute little one for kids, large menu. I finally had a chance to stop at Courageous Bakery after wanting to go for months, but never having the time. I stopped by around 2pm and it was dead .. which I was not expecting! I have heard nothing but good reviews about this place. I got 6 cupcakes total which were $20 - holy crap! When I got home the first one I tried was the vanilla bean. WOW! So yummy! The actual cake was a little dry, but when it mixed with the icing, it was melt in your mouth scrumptious. So much for my diet is all I can say. The red velvet is equally as amazing, with a extremely yummy cream cheese top. My husband demolished the rest of them, so I can't give reviews, but I am guessing by him inhaling them, they were just as good. Service 3 stars Food 4 stars So had the breakfast croissant and a cup of joe. Croissant was really good but I could taste it all day. Joe was average, and I was expecting great! Oh well. Cute little shop, very nice ambiance, right across from the metra pick up. Price was right, but the girl that waited on us at the front counter was clueless and it did take a bit to get our food. Breakfast and Lunch If you want a cheap meal of fried eggs, dry hash-browns grilled in margarine, bacon that's been precooked on the grill for an hour and bland toast, then go somewhere else - Maybe Denny's is for you. If your looking for fresh, unique breakfasts that take time to cook and taste great, then go to Courageous Bakery. I love the Mollette, an English Muffin with black beans, fresh avocado, a sunny-side up egg and salsa. Get some seasoned potatoes or fresh fruit on the side. They don't serve fruit that's been in a container for a couple of days and tastes kind of funny, no, they really serve fresh fruit! The Bakery Fresh - No preservatives. Again, if you want a cheap donut that makes you feel bad after you eat it, go to Dunkin. If you want a fresh donut, cupcake, pastry, or cake with no preservatives made with real ingredients and makes you smile after you eat it, then go to Courageous. The croissants are great - Flakey, buttery, fresh - Get the butter and homemade preserves too - I've never been disappointed! The People The place is usually very busy - good food takes time and people love it. Laura, the owner, is almost always around, Juanie does a great job cooking and baking, AJ is on top of things on the weekends, and my very favorite morning person, Janike, is there first thing with a very warm and inviting personality. Cake was delicious and it looked pretty, however they did not have a box for a 2 tear cake. Which with no box we could not take cake to stay cold for event. They let us barrow a baking sheet pan to take cake to destination directly. Expose cake to elements and had to eat early on before the butter cream fully melted. The guest where confused as we arrived with cake in the open.. Looked up on line and 2 tear boxes exist and if not going to provide, give consumer the option to take their business elsewhere if going to make things hard to transport cake... read more

Awesome baked goods including gluten free cupcakes I often order even though I could care less about gluten. Tasty brunch dishes with layers of flavor. And if you get there for weekend brunch, you get to hear the vocal stylings of the guy sitting in the corner OWNing every song from classic soul to current pop. I don't want to give it 5 stars because I have yet to try the menu selection other than the cupcakes. But I plan to go back to try the Sammies. I came right when they had finished cooling a fresh batch of cupcakes. OMG, they were so delicious. I ordered a dozen and a half dozen cupcakes. The cupcakes are individually a whopping $3.25 (!!!), a dozen is $36 ($3 each), and a half dozen is is $18.25 (~$3.05 each). I made sure I got one of every available October/fall flavor. They have one gluten free option available. They were so delicious, when I invited only 7 of my coworkers for the 12 cupcakes, all of them were eaten! The half dozen for a birthday party was a huge hit. Courageous Bakery also offers FREE CANDLES. So I grabbed quite a lot so my friend could have fun blowing them out on cupcakes. I always order a red velvet, and it was so moist and gooey.... I almost melted. The great thing is that they weren't too sweet. I am not usually fond of American/European (ugh, don't get me started on the tasty Greek desserts that are swimming in sweet syrup; baklava, I am looking at you!) desserts because they are often too sweet, yet these were carefully balanced and had lots of flavor. The taffy apple was also great. I'm glad that this bakery is nearby, and although I plan to also try out the other bakeries in the vicinity, I now know that Courageous will be my go to bakery! I went back again, and I must say the mollete is almost as delicious as the breakfast burrito. The vanilla bean cupcake with chocolate frosting was disappointing, though. It was very dense, and it tasted like I was eating a box cake mix cupcake with chocolate frosting from one of those little plastic tubs sold at grocery stores. They make the food to order, so it is NOT fast. I came with a group of coworkers at lunchtime, and many people had to either scarf down their meal or ask for a to-go box immediately in order to make it back on time. This place should consider a name change to DANGEROUS, as in dangerous to my health, my waistline, etc. Im convinced that some of the doughnuts have crack in them because they are downright addictive. Ive had several flavors of their doughnuts and cupcakes and while Ive preferred more some than others (key lime, strawberry, red-velvet), they are all excellent. The cupcakes dont have the overly sweet icing that hurts your teeth. Plus, they now offer brunch on Fri/Sat and man is it tasty. Adorable little place with a purpose close to my heart. The cupcakes part of things is to raise money for cancer research. The ones I've had are very good! The cafe has so many options and honestly surprising renditions of some traditional Hispanic dishes. By surprising, I mean really good and almost authentic! I had booked this place for their cupcake truck for my daughters birthday online. I called the store before I booked to inquire about the cupcake truck and they advised me beat practice was using the site. Picked a time that was available on their website and thought nothing else of it. They email me saying they can't make the time work for what I booked. Asked me to change the time. I ask if I can get some sort of discount if I adjusted. They advised it was not possible. Because it was for my daughters birthday I reluctantly agreed to change the time with no compensation for the adjustment. They email me two weeks before event stating they can't make it work because they don't want to over promise and under deliver. Over promise who? I wasn't even given the slot time I booked. Then they want to offer discount on cupcakes since they can't do the food truck. Unbelievable. I would not recommend if you are looking to do something special for your kids. My husband and I eat at Courageous Bakery probably every other weekend! We stumbled across this adorable bakery and cafe when we moved to Elmhurst a year ago. Since then, it has become a staple in our meal plan, and anytime we have out of town guests stay with us we bring them here for breakfast! Their breakfast and lunch options are some of the best. Simple yet so flavorful! The Croque Monsieur, Croque Madam, BLT, and breakfast burrito are some of our faves! I love that they give a couple small donut holes while you wait for your food, such a nice touch. Their salted caramel donut will melt in your mouth. I can't say enough about their food and newly arranged furniture plan! My husband and I don't really eat cupcakes, but I'm sure they're just as good.
