I found this bakery a couple of weeks ago and was so surprise. So much to choose from. The staff was so helpful when I mentioned it was my first time, they suggested the maple bacon cupcake. Checked this place out for breakfast. Had french toast, my dining partner had an egg dish. I loved the atmosphere, service was a little strange but do-able. It seems like the focus is on the bakery and the restaurant part is an after thought, although that won't prevent me from returning. Great atmosphere very relaxed and welcoming, great food, and amazing cupcakes plus I love the fact that a percentage of all sales go to cancer research and non profit organizations. Janike and Elaine gave excellent service while I was having coffee and tea with a friend today. I would have given a 5 star review but during my visit there was a pregnant woman who was behind the counter that would give a dirty look to a young girl every time she coughed. It's not like the young girl wasn't covering her mouth when she coughed there wasn't any need for that. Why would you look at a child like that she can't help that she was sick and your making the business look bad not to mention you are pregnant and wouldn't want anyone looking at your child like that. This experience makes me question about returning because of her ignorance not to mention I am extremely upset with what she did I can only imagine how her parents feel about it. read more

I really wanted to give this place 5 stars. The service is amazing. But...I ordered the pancakes. They were definitely not fluffy and very undercooked from the inside while pretty dark on the outside. I told the waitress and she got a new order. Same issue with the second one. I decided that I would make the best of it and just not come back. But the waitress came back asked how everything was. I said fine. But she noticed I had hardly touched my pancakes. Offered to get me something totally different. Told me she'd order some pancakes for herself to try and figure out what was going wrong. And gave me a gift card to return. Funny enough, I never did try a cupcake here, but I do really like their other pastries, especially the pistachio croissants mmmm. I used Courageous Bakery for my wedding. Everyone I have encountered was very friendly and helpful. They met with us and let us try any flavor cupcake they had available. We ended up choosing 4 different cupcakes for our cupcake tower. They were able to do vegan cupcakes and gluten free cupcakes which was great! They put together a beautiful tower that matched our theme and added flowers from the forist the day of. It looked perfect! Every cupcake was delicious and our guests raved. The bakery even provided single serving take home containers for guests to bring home a cupcake and for us to freeze one easily! We have since been back, after our wedding, to get our fix of delicious cupcakes. read more

While every cupcake I've had here has been wonderful, the service I've received the past two times has been awful. A few months ago I called in the morning to order a dozen and pay for them over the phone to pick them up the next day. I was told to please call back in 15 minutes because they were trying to open. Then today, I called to see what flavors would be available for me to pick up a dozen tomorrow and the girl, Ashley, rattled a few off then asked me if I needed anything else because she had a customer. They were extremely helpful and pleasant to work with. They gave us suggestions to help us along and made our difficult order seem painless. The cupcakes turned out perfect and tasted even better! I heard so much great feedback from other employees as well. I would definitely recommend it and would use this bakery again for any future events. I myself am not a huge dessert fan, but I could not put down the cupcake. We ordered a variety of chocolate and vanilla with the vanilla bean frosting. Do NOT go here for any cupcakes or catering. I ordered a cupcake cake and extra pink velvet cupcakes for a baby shower. When I ordered I spoke with two separate people confirming what I wanted and I paid almost 200.00 for my order. Come pick up time, the baker decided to mot make the pink velvet, which was what I ordered, and instead just made the cupcakes chocolate and vanilla. They matched them to the rest of my order as far as frosting which was the only good thing. When asked what happened, I was told that they switched over to March so their velvet cupcakes are green for St. Patrick's Day. Not only did they lie to me when I placed my order, but they never called me to tell me of the change. They just figured " they would talk to me when I picked up my order." This is completely unprofessional and completely inappropriate. You don't have an order for almost 200.00 and not inform the person of any changes. And lie about it in the first place! And the cupcakes were dry and very sweet. Not even worth it. I can't even give them any stars because I am so disgusted and mad. They did nothing to make things right, just gave me extra cupcakes, which I didn't want or need. I will never use them ever again. read more

Went back and forth via email with the owner only to be asked to come in, bring pictures and meet with the baker. After all of this, the owner never bothered returning an estimate. We go to Courageous bakery for their lemon and miracle pound cake slices that my daughter loves. The bakery is expensive, but we figure that they are supporting cancer research so we are willing to pay a bit more for charity. But they regularly overcharge us by adding additional items to the bill. In the past, when I have noticed this and brought it to their attention, they corrected the issue. This last time some time had lapsed between when they overcharged me and when I made it back to ask them to make it right. The guy behind the counter, the shift manager, and even the owner all refused. I had bought my daughter 2 slices of miracle pound cake and they charged me for 4. They said too much time had passed (2 months over the Christmas holiday) and they refused to do anything about it. So either they were accusing me of lying, or they had no problem with openly stealing my money. If you go to this bakery, check your receipt. It seems to be their policy to pad their profits by charging you for items that they don't give you. read more

My friends raved, though I can't see why. First time, I ordered the burrito with a side of chips and salsa. Chips were good, clearly freshly made. I took it back and the employee was very nice, apologetic, said she'd have them remake it with extra chicken. Second burrito was not much better. The few pieces of chicken included were tiny and had zero flavor. Employee also brought complimentary doughnut holes. However, they were dry. I agreed to a second trip when my friends insisted I try again (they had really enjoyed their food the last time). I decided I had ordered the wrong thing. This time, I went with what my lunch buddy had ordered last time, turkey and gouda on a croissant. It looked/smelled delicious and she'd been happy. I also ordered two cupcakes (one to go). No complimentary donuts offered. Employee (not the same one as first visit) was so busy on her phone that she forgot my cupcakes that she promised to bring to the table. When I went back up to ask, she didn't even know what I'd ordered (only one other table in the place, so it's not like she was busy). Food comes, chips are SOAKED in grease but cold. Not room temp, cold. Yuck. The sandwich was missing gouda (seriously?!) and the turkey (which they claim is roasted in house) could not possibly have been roasted that day. It was flavorless, and super dry. Think unseasoned turkey jerky. I drowned it in hot sauce but there was no saving it. It was NOT good. I've stopped by courageous bakery many times now and rarely am I disappointed. The texture and consistency of both the cupcake and frosting says it all. They are spot on on their favors and most of their cupcakes taste amazing. A few weeks ago I ordered 18 cupcakes for my grad party. I got the French silk pie, the key lime pie and the hummingbird. They all were a hit, my only complaint is that the hummingbird surprisingly had no filling. I've had many other flavors including vanilla bean, pink velvet, survivor, mint chocolate chip, ect. They all taste great and i can't get enough of their decadent frostings! However, I'm sad to say that a few of the cupcakes I've had we're a little dry. Maybe it was because I came late in the day? But I'll still make the 30 minute drive to experience these one of a kind cupcakes. This is your go to spot for unique and wonderful cakes and I can't wait to try their breakfast! read more

yay! really liked this place. had an awesome breakfast. You have to watch what you get if you are getting though because my friend got a breakfast muffin for $7 and it was so tiny and she was still starving, i got the traditional for a few dollars more and i couldnt finish it it was a good amount of food. I also got a GF cupcake, very very good. All of the girls were friendly. My only other suggestion is some of the tables are realllllly tight together and it makes you feel like there is no room in there. If they are not necessary i would suggest possibly getting rid of one of the tables to make it a bit less cramped in the sit down area. But i will def. be back! read more

I began receiving unsolicited e-mails from Laura Pekarik in 3/2016 - apparently, she got our e-mail from a bridal list since we are renewing our wedding vows for our 25th anniv.; she offered us a tasting, never mentioning anything about a tasting fee in her e-mails. We were very interested since there will be children at the party & liked the idea of a portion of her profits going to a breast cancer charity or "other" charities. We provided her with info. she requested regarding the size of the wedding, etc., but since I am disabled & our schedule is rather tight, we were having a challenge working Laura's schedule, prior to 3 pm. Summer & the holidays were busy, so this was put on back burner. In order to accommodate all our friends/family who want to attend, we've had to change our date. We are still in the planning stages & just purchased our color-schemed balloons & napkin rings. Last week I received another e-mail from Laura about some Valentine specials - this prompted my memory to schedule our tasting. I responded to the e-mail, explaining this was the perfect time for us to schedule, as we are staying at a hotel in Elmhurst while our bathroom is being remodeled. She replied by asking again the number of guests, venue locale, etc. We had already answered these questions prior & some are irrelevant to whether we serve cupcakes or not. I suggested a day this week that we could actually make a n afternoon appt., & even mentioned the possibility of writing a article in the paper I work for about the bakery. My enthusiasm for visiting/doing business with this place was met with deception on the part of Laura - she told me there would be $75 tasting fee, when no such fee had been said before, & It is ludicrous for 10 cupcakes & coffee, when the coffee, including lattes, are being advertised for $1, & the cupcakes are in the $3 range, & she claimed she would be sending me an invoice for said $75 fee, & wanted a $100 deposit up front we have not tasted one crumb of a cupcake! When I pointed out the fact that there was no fee mentioned until this point in all of her many e-mails, she said that everyone pays a fee & that the fee had gone up, yet a Yelp review of 8/1/2016 by Trish S. makes a point to say they received a complimentary tasting! Her latest e-mail says she hopes we can rectify the situation, but didn't say as to how, & didn't offer to wave the phony fee. We find this appalling & disheartening - I run a service sorority which benefits those with breast cancer, dedicated to my aunt Mickey, who died of the disease. I am reporting this fiasco to the BBB - how do I explain to my nieces that the promised cupcakes that help the pink ribbon sick ladies from the bakery near nana's house won't be coming because the owner upset their auntie.
