Pappy & Jimmys beef sandwiches are so good! ask to add slaw yum. the service is longer because it's cooked fresh when ordered.

We have visited twice now and the service and food were outstanding. My husband who normally eats very little cleaned his plate both times. My favorite item so far was the black eyed peas- they tasted just like my grandmother had cooked them! We plan to return and try some of their other specialities- like gumbo. I remembered eating at Pappy and Jimmies as a child in Memphis- I loved the lobster tank and lobster bibs, nothing like nostalgia and they have some memorabilia to see in this restaurant. Do yourself a favor and go- prices are reasonable and the service is outstanding! read more

This has to be the filthiest place serving flavorless food, I've ever been to. They even brought me a ketchup bottle that had layers of dried yet gummy ketchup on the outside. Service was great. Too bad everything else was horrendous. read more

Took a 45 minute drive just to try out Pappy & Jimmies!! Having heard of it and been to the Memphis location- we ventured to Covington, TN to try out this comfort food kitchen! It was worth the drive! The menu boosts anything you can dream of, if you are a southerner at heart!! Breakfast served all the time! Some seasonal favorites are offered like homegrown tomatoes in the summer and seafood gumbo in the winter! I had an omelette, and it was plenty to take home for the next day, mainly because I saved room for the homemade banana pudding! The atmosphere was diner style, very casual- like your neighbors back porch! Welcoming staff who were well-versed on the large menu were friendly and attentive! My water was never empty and my plates were full!! What a treat for casual family dining at very reasonable prices!!! read more

Obviously not the real Pappy and Jimmy's, or anything close to it, but it was a pretty good experience. The catfish is really spicy with a heavy crust, and I'm not even sure it's real catfish. When I asked where the fish came from, he would only say who the vendor is, not if it was USA pond raised or Asian grown garbage. It wasn't good either way. However, the plate lunch was pretty good, the vegetables were to perfection, and the country fried steak was excellent. Since the name is similar but spelled different I believe they're trying to pass it off as being the old Memphis favorite Pappy and Jimmy's that was originally located on Poplar Ave. @ Hollywood and later on summer Ave. read more

Run don't walk!! This family dining restaurant is the best I've been to in a long time. The stewed turnips were DELICIOUS. HOMEMADE salmon patties and yellow squash with onions were so good! Well it was my first and last time. We had a table of 9 people. I ordered the steak, it looked and tasted like it was microwaved. 3 people at our table ordered Grilled Chicken breast. It was overcooked and cold and placed on buns. They didn't order sandwiches. 1 person at our table sat with out a drink half of the meal. Nothing came out in a timely manner. My friend and I both ordered baked ham, with two veggies. The veggie portions were put in small bowls to make sure they don't give you too much....but my biggest complaint is the baked ham is literally a ultra thin piece of sandwich ham cold cut, heated... for 8.95 what a joke! I wish I had taken a picture.... Are you kidding me, even on a sandwich I expect more than one piece especially at that price!!! I left there still hungry, that shouldn't be. My hubby however had the country fried steak which was a good size, fried green tomatoes, white beans and cornbread which he said was great. Im on Keto so their menu was extremely limited....besides we had driven there from Millington, so not sure we will ever go back there, since there is far too many good places to eat before I get there.... and let me say this, I will drive that far for a good meal! Without a doubt, some of the best home cooking I have ever had. And, certainly the best in Covington. Try it, you won't be disappointed. Also, had a country ham & egg biscuit here recently, perhaps the best biscuit sandwich I have ever had! (Sorry Bryant's, yours are great, but....) Finally, try their 'beef' sandwiches. I think they are the only ones still doing these in Covington. Excellent food, LOVE this place. read more

What an awesome hole in the wall! We were on a trip from Wisconsin looking for some authentic Southern food since we don't get is very often and this place did not disappoint! We started with sweet tea (of course) and a cup of the lobster bisque which was rich, buttery and amazing. For dinner we had the fried gulf shrimp with turnip greens, candied yams, and cream potatoes all of which surpassed our expectations. The dining room is nothing fancy, it is a quaint, humble atmosphere complete with the Southern hospitality of the staff, they could not have been more nice and eager to please. Waiters usually younger and part timers but very, very good. Food portions are measured but taste wonderful. Breakfast and lunches are great and hot off the grill. Night meals usually same amount as lunch but price goes up a couple dollars. Has home cooked flavor and worth a visit. We eat here often. read more

So reading the previous reviews we thought the food would be decent. Wrong the deep fried oysters were way to salty, the onion rings look like they came frozen from a bag, my salad I could've made better at home. The only thing that was decent was my wife's country fried steak. And for a $50 bill they didn't even bring the rolls we ordered then asked after I paid if we still wanted them. A great hole-in-the wall place in this small town. We had lobster bisque soup that was excellent, a side salad that was fresh and crisp, pickled beets that were just as good as I make; others at our table had fried oysters, a stuffed baked potato, hubs had catfish and said it was perfect. The place has home cooked food, and it has a home touch, Pappy came out and told how he made the lobster bisque after our table raved about it.
