Living in the South years ago, I was able to learn how to give effective insults that seemed more like concern mixed with pity. For example: "Oh dear, your baby is uglier than Satan's sphincter, bless his heart". See, all you have to do is add "bless his heart" or "that poor thing" after your insult and then it doesn't sound so much like one. So about the Marriott Courtyard I say "I've found dead hookers in places that didn't smell this bad, bless its heart". I just have to say this place is kind of dumpy and my room smelled very bad, but I realized the whole place sort of had a funk to it. The list of problems beside the smell isn't too bad: the bed was very uncomfortable, there was a really gross stain on the couch cushion, garbage hadn't been emptied in my room before I checked in and there were no toiletries. In the gym only one treadmill worked and it was so old I pictured a dinosaur running on it. On the plus side, the workers there were lovely. Very friendly and helpful. Also, the hotel is undergoing much needed renovations and they do a good job of communicating that with guests, so major kudos for that. I'm rounding this up to a three because the staff was so great but truth be told, this place is very skeevy, the poor thing.

Standard Courtyard for the most part. The front desk representative(Kk) was extremely pleasant when I checked in around 9:00PM. I grabbed a quick drink from the convenient bistro in the lobby and then was off to my room for my one night stay. The hallways smelled like marijuana. Didn't love that. But my room was fine, thankfully. I LOVED that the shower had pump bottles instead of the small, standard hotel ones.

The only guests that actually used the laundry room.

Summary: Bugs, dirty, useless staff, old building -- ie. never again. From check-in to check-out this place was a nightmare. The room was dirty with items from the previous guests still on the floor. The shower barely worked. The toilet seat was broken. The room was small because the hotel is an old building that was (poorly) remodeled. I have to agree with Bill T. who said: "I've found dead hookers in places that didn't smell this bad, bless its heart". Out of desperation we stayed the night before moving in with family. When attempting to use the guest laundry services, I found stink bugs and water bugs, both dead and alive, everywhere. Same at the ice machine ... on every floor! The next morning we found ants in our room. When trying to bring these issues to the attention of the front desk, I was ignored for 20 minutes (around 10pm) by an employee who would rather talk with his friends on his cell phone than service customers. He looked right at me and then walked into the back office to continue his conversation. His response was that this was "normal". When we checked out many, many nights early and explained to them why, we received an "Oh, ok." What a hell hole. Also, check out the "Hunt Valley Courtyard" listing with the Cockeysville address for the reviews this hotel doesn't want you to read.

It seemed like only half of the vendors were set up and prepared, and the weird buffet seemed very unorganized with not enough tables. I think for a little convention it did justice, however it was pretty much based around Star Wars and Star Trek. There are so many different types of Sci Fi shows/movies out there to explore. Anyway, I don't know if I'd honestly come back to this convention unless I know one of the voice actors. Again, I get it, it's not big like Otakon or Katsucon...however for a smaller convention, I'd expect it to still be just as diverse and probably MORE organized. Thankfully I got to get info from other conventions to check out.

The last week of my stay I noticed green mold (you can see from the pictures) on the carpet under the bed, and on the dust cover of the bed. There is also black mold on the air conditioner. I alerted the front desk and simply asked to change rooms due to the mold because it takes 2 weeks for mold to be visible so it has been there almost my entire stay and my pets and I have been breathing it in. I had been experiencing symptoms of mold exposure such as congestion and itchiness that was abnormal for me. They informed me they were fully booked up and could not change my room. I asked if there was anything else they could do for me to compensate for being exposed to mold and was told there would be a general manager and a maintenance man to come in about an hour. However, an hour later only the maintenance man came and told me it was not mold and quickly cleaned everything up. I asked if the manager was going to speak with me and he ignored me and just kept saying it wasn't mold. The maintenance man also informed me that my windows had been cracked. This was extremely alarming because I did not at any point open the windows myself. The only time they could have been opened is when I removed my pets to have the room cleaned. They accused me multiple times of leaving the windows open, but it would've made no sense for me to do that for many reasons. I am a single woman at a ground floor apartment so it would not be safe, and more importantly my cat and dog are in there without me while I am at work and temperatures were in the ninety's daily. My cat is also an escape artist and the window screen had a hole in it already . At this point my mother had to get involved because I could not get an audience with the manager and over the phone, she was told over and over that mold is only black and not green. This is obviously un true. When we did not accept that as an answer the manager became hostile towards us and absolutely refused a refund or any kind of compensation for there being mold in my room. I literally have never written a complaint like this for any business but this is a health concern and the general manager gas-lit me and was hostile towards my family and I.
