Ambiance: It's bright and clean but kind of lacks any character. Staff members were friendly and food look a little bit on the longer side since they make it to order. Food: We got a beef cheesesteak and an italian and definitely enjoyed the italian more. I think some of the problem is that they have relatively large rolls/bread which throws off the ratios and makes it feel skimpy. They either need to bake a 20% smaller roll or add 20% more protein to really make each bite satisfying. That said, the ingredients they use are actually good. I could actually taste the spiciness in the capicola and the salami had a nice rich flavor, they also topped the italian with a herby vinaigrette which was great. The fries are slightly more on the shoe string thinness which was fun but flavor was pretty standard. Overall this place isn't bad but it has some stiff competition, you get better price-performance from a cheaper chain and probably a better overall gourmet sub from Capriotti's which isn't that far although you'll probably pay 2x the price. read more

Seen this place was open and decided to stop in and give it a try. First off the guy at the counter was really nice and helpful with recommendations etc. You order at the counter or a little kiosk and they will either bring it to your table or call out your number. The menu is a bit deceiving as they have the steps for ordering and step 4 is making your sub a meal and there's no technical meal he said. You just order a side and drink all charged separately. They have subs to choose from and you can add or take toppings off there's 4-5 bread options as well or may do any sub as a bowl served as a salad. The restaurant is extremely clean even the bathrooms. If you're coming in to have lunch and need to do some work they do have plug ins at each booth table. I ordered the pepperoni melt on Garlic herb bread It comes with pepperoni, ham, cheese, onion, tomato, onion, oregano and mayo I opted to remove the onion There isn't much meat on the sandwich and I feel the bread to filling ratio is a bit off. However it was filling because of all the bread. The flavor was on point though. Wisconsin cheese curds were really good. Fried fresh and the chipotle ranch is flavorful. Hubby ordered the Wisconsin cheesesteak on Parmesan Asiago It comes with steak, liquid cheese, grilled onion and bacon and it had an amazing flavor and was filling however yet again there was a lot of extra bread. They do have freestyle coke options and shakes After our meal we did order a pumpkin pie shake and all of their shakes start as vanilla soft serve and then they add sauce in to make other flavors. Punchline: there are so many other choices that are much better family and i popped in to try this new place. The workers are friendly and make an effort but thats about it.. three stars is likely generous. I got a chipotle cheesesteak. The meat was bland at best. The chiptole sauce was thin and not great. The bread was very good in general, but the rest of the stuff drug it down. Wife got a normal cheesesteak.. same thing.. just not great. but she did great french fries, they were pretty good. One kid got a kids meatball sub. It was ice cold when it came out.. they remade it and it was warm, but not hot by any means. We waited about 20 minutes for four sandwiches, three of which were kids' meals. According to the menu, the kids' sandwiches were supposed to be just turkey and cheese, but all three of ours came with sauce, lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. There was also a ham option, which included all the same condiments. the taste itself was disappointing and didn't meet my expectations--I would honestly give the food a 2/10. Service was slow, but I could understand why, since there was only one worker handling everything. The inside of the restaurant felt empty and quiet, which made the atmosphere feel a little unwelcoming rather than cozy. We are in Indiana for the first time for my son's baseball tournament and stopped by Cousins for a bite--so glad we did! This is a one and done for us. $20+ for a cheesesteak with very little meat and toppings. The bread completely covered any toppings so none was showing when the sub was closed. Either this location needs some corporate oversight if it is franchised or just roll up the carpet and lock the doors now if this is the best Cousin's Subs can do. read more

Had a platter of subs and chips brought in for a realtor seminar and they were great! Today I went in for lunch and we were greeted by the staff and manager, they offered suggestions because I couldn't decide, and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I've been looking forward to trying Cousin's Subs since I learned they were coming to town. After reading some of these reviews, I almost changed my mind about trying it. I'm glad I didn't. They've only been open for about a month, and I suppose it's possible they went through some new opening issues at first, but I tried it for the first time earlier this week and it was excellent. I got the deal that is going on right now. It included a sandwich, fries (or chips), a drink, and a cookie. I liked it so much I went there again today to get the same thing. Both times the sandwich and the fries were excellent. I'm looking forward to going back and trying their other options. I saw a review or two complaining about the price, but the price of restaurant food is up everywhere. Price-wise Cousin's is right in line with, if not slightly less than any other comparable sandwich shop in the area. Give them a try, I want them to stick around and hopefully open a lot more locations. read more

Wanted to try something new other than the usual Subway, etc. I got the chicken cheesesteak sandwich. The sandwich was very small and the chicken was dry. The only thing that made it remotely taste good was the cheese sauce. Not at all what I expected for $10.00 compared to the size of sandwich I would have gotten for the same price elsewhere. The question is: Untrained or Not Competent. I have been to this location twice. The first time shortly after they opened I waited 10+ minutes and still wasn't able to place an order. I left. This time, several months laters on a Saturday at 3:00 pm, with only 3 customers in the store, I went to try, for the first time, a sandwich from Cousins Sub. As I walked in, the cashier said just a minute then walked over to help others making sandwiches. Another employee came over near me and stood staring out into space. After 5 minutes and no one coming to take my order I left. So, either the employees are untrained or not competent. Either way, they are 2 out of 2 in striking out with a new customer. The sandwiches are really good-my youngest son loves the meatball sub-but what I like best are the options. They have fries AND the best fried cheese curds I've ever had outside of Wisconsin. They are even better than Culver's. Another good option is the Mac n cheese, which tastes good. I have a little who doesn't eat subs, so we have a hard time at other places. My husband and I wanted to try somewhere new. We were greeted and the gentleman at the counter asked to help us, we mentioned we were new and he said to let him know when we were ready and went to finish some other orders, instead of patiently waiting. The assistant manager saw us and he told her we were new and looking but i informed her we were ready. We gave our order, I asked for no onions or bologna on my Italian sandwich in a bowl. she struggled with this on the keypad. My husband ordered a sub and told her to make it a meal. She asked if we needed drinks and I wanted water, the meal comes with one. She gave us two water cups. We said the meal comes with a drink and she said it's a la carts, yet the meal states "with a drink". Anywho, we went to find a seat and every table was dirty, but no other customers were in house. She took the food back to remake and asked if I wanted a dressing, I said whatever the Italian comes with...she straight up gave me oil to put on it. Our first time at Cousins Subs on Indy south side. We ordered 2 subs to go and when we got home found out that 1 sub was wrong and the other was what I ordered but was cold and chicken had no taste. You could barely see the cheese and sub was not fresh. Usually when you order a chicken cheese steak sub it is hot and has some sort of sauce such as mayo etc. This one had no sauce, was cold and the chicken was very tasteless. Now for the 2nd sandwich - ordered chipolte chicken sub but got a sandwich that had lunch meat on it that was cut so thin you could hardly see it. Again the sub was not fresh. This was a very disappointing 1st time visit and most likely will be our last.
