Great place for breakfast and lunch and a fun place to take young children for a cute little train ride and to see some animals. Gift store holds many of their apple and berry jams etc and this place famous in the area for their Mile high pies. Nice family outing to take visitors too. read more

What a great find! We had a wonderful lunch, the cider was delicious, and the baked goods all looked amazing!!! You can see them making them!!! Our daughter loved seeing the farm animals. There is a train to ride, which we will definitely be doing next time we stop by. If you are in the area, it's a great place to stop for lunch, a snack, or a dessert to bring home with you. There is no comparison locally when it comes to their baked goods. I cannot overstate that fact. There's a fun train ride and cute playground. Overall a sweet little spot to take your family and good place to create memories with your kiddos. Visited Cover Apple Ranch with my Girl Scout Troop yesterday afternoon. Our tour guide was Alan. He was very informative and the grounds were well kept. The tour included a brief view of the orchard with information RE: the different types of apples Cover grows. We then watched Alan use a machine to core, slice and cut apples all in one felt swoop! Alan let the girls try some of the apple slices and showed them how to make an apple pie. He also took the girls into the area where the cider is made and the apples are stored. The girls rode the train around the grounds and we then toured the small barnyard complete with a horse, pigs, goats, a cow, turkeys, and a bunny. The tour concluded with a small apple cider and a cookie. Most of the baked goods that were in the case were sold out (good sign). There were a lot of patrons inside ordering pies and everyone was very friendly. I really liked the atmosphere of this place and the girls LOVED the tour. They rated it a 10 out of 10! Well worth the $8.00 per girl that we spent. Can't wait to visit again. :) read more

This is one of my favorite places in Tuolumne County. I grew up having my birthday parties here with the train rides and feeding the animals. The food will always be amazing. Everything from breakfast to dessert, it is all made from scratch and it all tastes amazing. I get their frozen chicken pot pies on a regular basis. Yum! Cover's is right up the street from me and sometimes I like to pick up a delicious pot- pie for dinner. All their baked goods are amazing! It's a great stop for people with small children because of the train-rides, playground & petting zoo. I have also gone on a couple behind-the-scenes tours with my kids schools & the process is fun to watch. read more

I love the food here! The mile high apple pie reminds me of my mother's. You have the option of buying the previously baked or the frozen to take home and bake at a later time. The cinnamon roll with buttercream is also amazing - the frosting was my favorite. Believe it or not, buying a whole pie is cheaper than a slice of pie (and having too much pie is never a bad problem). Personally I think the whole pie is reasonably priced for the quality and for supporting a local business. read more

Homemade everything! Pies, Quish Lorraine, meatloaf, sandwiches & so much more. Family run business. They have a mini train that takes you around the property which is great for children. 4, not 5 stars because we were new and we didn't know what to do and it was not clear what we should do. After we figured out that we needed to order at the cash register it got way better. Still didn't know if we should get our own flatware and napkins or not. We did, but we didn't need to. We had breakfast and everything was exactly as ordered and really good. Wish I had ordered the cinnamon bread French toast, though. It looked great and came with a molasses-honey syrup that was out of the world. Got to sample it! Lots to look at (and buy) at Covers. Really interesting stuff. They are known for their baked goods and they didn't disappoint. Walked out with too much good stuff, especially their multigrain bread. It's worth the effort to go to Tuolomne and find it. If you see a sign, look for the turn. We missed the first time and almost missed it the second. read more

Thus was our first visit to the ranch since it had burned. I noticed the train was sitting idle, and when I asked how much to ride I was shocked to learn the tickets were $3.50 a piece. As we wandered around the store, we were met by a rude person behind the fudge counter. Another younger gal said they were closing soon for a wedding. Okay, can we use the picnic bench outside? Yes. This is a split review. One for the food and one for the outside area. I live about an hour away and heard about this place through word of mouth. As a restaurant I LOVED this place! I ordered a Denver Omelette and French Toast. My family asked why I would bother with French Toast? One bite...one bite....The Best French Toast I HAVE EVER HAD! I live an hour away and have been dreaming of the FRENCH TOAST ever since. We tasted each others dishes and EVERYTHING just tastes better! The meals are homemade with fresh ingredients! Breakfast menu is awesome but they stop after a certain time. The presentation is great and the setting is an old fashioned country look which is perfect. Parking lot is clean and well lighted. It is not open on Sundays because the people are religious. This is a great place to eat at if your feeling in the mood for a country drive, you ride a motorcycle (we saw a bunch of bikers here), or you want to stop here on way to the casinos. They have lots of great pies and snacks to get as well. This place is A++......now on to the criticisms that yelp users are bringing up. I don't feel the restaurant deserves one star for outside farm area because you can love this place without seeing it. You walk down a walkway and come up to the train tracks. This place is missing out on having an opportunity from being a great restaurant to being a great destination. This is the area of being most in NEED of improvement! My son is 3 years old and loves trains. The train track is long and he loved it! It should just always be going. This area also has two playhouses that were cool, but they are right next to horse manure in the play area. The pond has ducks, geese, and koi fish it needs cleaned. The petting zoo was being cleaned at the time and it is just PATHETIC! The animals have no shade, look malnourished, and are in small spaces. The pigs were sunburnt. The outside presentation is most in need. The vehicles are all over. I hope they read this criticism. Some tips that are needed to improve: 1) train- conductor gets uniform, train rides always go, train rides are free 2) there are more places to sit for family in shade and to eat in this area 3) petting zoo- give animals shade, food, space, clean, and overall build up this area and add more animals like sheep, llama, etc. I can see myself taking my family here to eat breakfast, enjoying ourselves in outside area, then grabbing some pies and dessert on way out. We could come for the entire day, but we won't. Instead it is the perfect place to eat. Now I don't know how closely Mennonites follow the Old Testament, but if they do, they should probably make some revisions, because their pastries are a revelation! I was staying with some family in Jamestown for the weekend and my aunt insisted I had to try this place out. I was not disappointed. The people are super friendly and everything here is so freaking fresh! First thing I tried was an apple turnover that genuinely made me question what kind of garbage I'd been eating all my life. We brought some muffins and scones to bring home, and I even bough one of their frozen peach pies to bring back to the bay with me. We pulled it out for a get-together we had the other night and it was a total hit! Apparently everything tastes better when made with the righteous love of hey-zeus 8-) read more

This place is awesome! Earlier today I bought day old garlic bread (half off!), apple juice (in a little plastic apple shaped bottle), apple sauce, and a cinnamon role from Cover's. I've sampled everything I bought and everything is really good and tastes fresh. Even the day old bread. I live in the SF bay area and am bummed that I won't be able to visit Cover's more often. read more

I always loved Covers variety of pies, their wonderful chicken pot pies and goodness me I love the Apple crisp with a passion. Every morning there is fresh product. I've enjoyed coming here many times with my toddler grandson. The visit yesterday though really was disappointing. The animal area was in great need of attention and cleaning. We couldn't enjoy the few animals seeing them in such dirty circumstances. The restaurant was busy, but they couldn't keep up with the customers, causing long wait times. I think with some attention to improvement, they can be five stars again. read more

So disappointed in today's visit. We ordered and paid but their POS system asks you to add a tip. I hate this. I like to tip one I get good service not on what I hope service will be. I reluctantly tipped the minimum option of 15%. Typically I would do 20% once I get great service. Keep in mind there were 5 workers behind the counter and one other couple in the entire restaurant. 1st issue. Bought train tickets at 10:01. She said to go out there and they would give us a ride while we wait for our food to be prepared. We waited. And waited. And waited. Finally after 15 min I went back in and got my money back. One of the girls asked another did she call for the train. She said she did but nobody answered. Well thanks for communicating that. 2nd issue. Offered food with apricot pastry to go. When we hit our food everything was in to go boxes. 3rd issue. The apricot pasty want in the bag. LOL the one thing we asked for to go and it was missing. 4th issue. Again only one other couple and it took 38 min for our basic bacon and eggs. They were not rude but not apologetic at all. Give me a free pastry or something. A customer no longer. read more

Took the kids to Cover's today, Memorial Day. What a special treat and nothing says AMERICA like fresh baked APPLE PIE. Yummy! Their club sandwich was killer as well. Choose a side: fries, soup (barley today) or make your own salad at their mini salad bar. The cookies (only $0.50 each) were also great! Got our lunch and ate on the outdoor table under the shade tree while the kids played. Bring your quarters to buy some corn for the animals. Kids loved feeding the animals and walking through the petting zoo barn. The train ride was fun, $3 per person, kids 2 and under are free. It runs every hour or so. A great place for the kids and yummy food for adults too. All in all, 5 stars! read more

I have been very disappointed with Covers Apple ranch I can't believe the prices that they charge . prices went up but the food quality went down, not only the quality but the amount that you receive. The animal farm area is so run down , the trainride for instance.. they charge you too much to go around and see the grounds and they are horrible!! and rundown they take no pride in their grounds anymore it's very sad I remember years ago how happy and cheerful that it was, now even the kids that work around the grounds all walk around with frowns on their faces even a couple gave me the evil eye when I asked them questions like where can I buy some food to feed the animals.. Wow I was so surprised to get a response like that.. I guess the kids there don't like their jobs . The kids play area, it's so worn down only a couple cans of paint would make that area a little brighter and maybe a few nails ... Whoever the overseer is now for Covers Apple ranch need to take more pride in their property especially if they want to raise the prices so much... read more

Could be better. The Ranch is too small and doesn't give the feel of an authentic Apple Orchard. One field trip and 30 mins is enough to see everything. read more
