I have been very disappointed with Covers Apple ranch I can't believe the prices that they charge . prices went up but the food quality went down, not only the quality but the amount that you receive. The animal farm area is so run down , the trainride for instance.. they charge you too much to go around and see the grounds and they are horrible!! and rundown they take no pride in their grounds anymore it's very sad I remember years ago how happy and cheerful that it was, now even the kids that work around the grounds all walk around with frowns on their faces even a couple gave me the evil eye when I asked them questions like where can I buy some food to feed the animals.. Wow I was so surprised to get a response like that.. I guess the kids there don't like their jobs . The kids play area, it's so worn down only a couple cans of paint would make that area a little brighter and maybe a few nails ... Whoever the overseer is now for Covers Apple ranch need to take more pride in their property especially if they want to raise the prices so much... read more

I stop here on the way home and get heirloom tomatoes, fresh corn, and other vegetables. Their quiche is good and the pies are great. A good place to take kids. They are closed on Sunday though, so plan on a Saturday visit if you are from out of town. read more

My mom and I went here in May for the first time to eat lunch. At first it was confusing because we were waiting to be seated and no one told us to go order at the counter and then you pick a table. Well once this was cleared up and we got our lunch I must say it was amazing! I got the Hot Pastrami Sandwhich and i couldn't stop eating it. read more

This place is so good and the customer service is awesome! Everything they serve, sell, and make is absolutely amazing! I picked up a frozen chicken pot pie the other night to cook for dinner and it was the best I've ever had! All the ingredients were very fresh and the crust was flaky and seasoned well. We had a small group go for lunch today (2-12-22). Got there about 12:15 and the head waitress said they could not take a group our size without a reservation. We explained to her that we didn't have to all sit together. She was rude as she tried to figure a way to deal with us. When we did finally get seated in groups of three to four people, it took about 10-15 minutes to get menu's and another 10 to get drinks ordered. About 15 minutes later they took our food order. We asked for a few separate tags as we had split up our groups. We were told that they don't do that and it was unacceptable. The waitress then left and another one came and took the orders and agreed to seperate the tags, no problem. We waited about 45 minutes to get our food with other patrons coming and getting their drinks and food ahead of us. When ours did come the table next to us had their order completely wrong and not just their meals swapped but not hot when they ordered it hot, the sandwich bread was dried out, and the meat was definitely not anything special. Subway or Togo's does a better job! Being a local (52 years and knowing a lot of the family) we try to support the local businesses but it will be quite awhile before we come back. read more

The best peach pie I have ever had! We just bought a house in Twain Harte and someone recommended Cover's to us. I pre-ordered my Thanksgiving pies (pumpkin, dutch apple, peach) and picked them up a few days before Thanksgiving. They were so fresh and the best pies we've ever had! I love this place. This is a great place for children and adults to visit. I was surprised how good and simple the lunch menu was. They carry the best apple pies known to man and also offer some great, fresh apple juice too. The secret though, isn't the apples, it's the garlic bread you can buy. The ranch is very quite and serene. There is a great train ride on saturday's and petting zoo open all week. Children will love to play here, while we adults can just enjoy the food and beauty of the Cover's Apple Ranch. read more

When we first moved back to CA we were up in the Sonora area and discovered Csonka's Mile High Apple Pies - the kids enjoyed the place with the train and the animals - and we all drooled over the pies.......many years went by and we went back to have some pie and discovered they were closed, sob. Today we were on our way to Sacramento for the Gold Rush Days and decided to go east into the foothills instead. Stopped by a Tourist Info place to ask a question and the person there told us that the original owners had bought back the property and it was open again! So of course we had to stop. Doesnt look the same as what we remembered - but they still have the train and animals. But more importantly - they have the pies!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of which is in my oven right now and smelling so good.....we also tried some of their cookies today and walked out with some dried apricots. I'm not a big fan of chicken pot pie, but clearly I didn't have any that tasted very good. Cover's chicken pot pies are SO GOOD. We also got a beef pot pie recently, and it's hard to say which is better. They are both amazing in their own way. This time we stayed for lunch and it was a wholesome lunch. We also got an apple pie (YUM) and stocked up on their corn nuts and apple cider. We wish there was a place closer to us that sold their products. It's a good stopping place with kids for the train ride and to see the animals on your way to/from the Sierras. read more

Interesting place. Our kids enjoyed the train ride although it took an hour for them to find the conductor to actually give us a ride after we had bought tickets. The baked goods are amazing. And the french toast made from their cinnamon swirl bread is quite scrumptious. We liked the applesauce much more than the apple cider which was just average. The sausage patty was also top notch. You can see everyone working hard behind the counter, rolling out dough, etc. The problem is that there isn't much in the way of signage and customers -- including ourselves -- are confused about whether to seat themselves or not, where to order breakfast, where to buy train tickets, etc. A couple of well-placed signs would alleviate a lot of the confusion. Also, if you have kids, know that it's a long wait to get food even when the dining area is nearly empty. Again, it's clear the people are working hard so I can't fault them that but a bit of customer service (e.g. "Hi, welcome, have a seat") would really help. read more

I love this place. I have been going all of my life and I just got the chance to take my 4 year old daughter for the first time. We had cider and played in the play area. We were there at just the right time for the train but apparantly the person running it didn't feel like coming down to drive it. I was dissapointed as we drove from Fresno to visit other than that its a beautiful place (especially in the fall). All of the baked goods are amazing and everyone else was friendly. read more

Came here last year and was kind of disappointed. We took our DS and I guess I just expected for there to be more to do? There were some animals for the kids to see and a lil train and if I remember correctly a tiny hay maze but that was about it besides the store. The store was average size selling a few things and produce and the pies were delicious..but I guess after driving all that way we were expecting there to be more things to do as a family..I don't think I'd ever bother with the drive again to just get some pie. But the people who owned it were really nice. read more

A great place for breakfast or to pick up baked goods. We had breakfast here and it was excellent. Their French toast is wonderful and the eggs and bacon cooked perfectly. Oh the pie. Yum the pie. It's all about the pie. Half baked Dutch apple back to the cabin for an amazing treat after outdoor/snow play is the bomb. I cannot believe that no one has written a review for this place yet. It is a Tuolumne County gem. Their signature is the "mile high apple pie". They have a bakery on-site, and everything is fresh and tasty. They grow many of their greens and salad items on-site, too. It is sort of a cross between a market and a resaturant, a little of both. Very casual, but clean at all times. They have a train ride for the kids that runs seasonally. It is a little off the beaten path from Sonora, but if you are headed out to Black Oak Casino, you are very close. Maybe the locals, like me, want to keep this one a secret, but it is yummy. read more

I had not heard about this little gem before despite years of exploring the area. I am so glad we found it. Went for lunch on a weekday and the food was great. They had a curry chicken wrap special and it was spectacularly tasty. Great food especially for a little place tucked out of the way, as it is. We shopped the well-stocked farm store and bought jams, cider, pastries and the like. What a nice place for families with children as well. We were most impressed with how clean it is. We've been visiting and eating at Cover's for 40+ years ever since my first trip to Sonora back in 1969. Though ownership has changed a few times it is a must stop when visiting the area. They have some of the best food in the Mother Lode and the best pies ever. My kids have grown up here riding the train and feeding the animals. A trip to Sonora would not be complete without visiting Cover's. We always buy products to take back home to Anaheim with us so we can make the visit last even longer. read more
