I'm so very impressed by my experiences with wheelbuilder. Every time I've built a wheel set I use them to source my spokes and nipples. This last time I built a I9 Hydra hub with Mavic XC 1025 29er rims. Nice. But true to the above description, I ordered my spokes and nipples then decided to "splurge" and buy-up to 2 day shipping from plain old boring regular shipping but not go crazy with overnight because I'm stoked on getting these wheels built and riding them ASAP. It's only a couple bucks more to go to 2 day. Anyway... I bought them this last Wednesday and put the order in before noon. Expected arrival was Friday before 8pm. These crazy fools slapped my order together within a couple hours and slid it into a FedEx envelope. I got them Thursday at 2pm. How 'bout that?! read more

Wow. Just wow. These guys know what they're doing and love doing it. I somehow broke the hub on my rear Zipp 404. No local shop had a good solution, as this wheel is a little older and nobody had a hub that would fit. I contacted Wheelbuilder and talked with Benny. He hada DT Swiss hub and could work on it soon. I dropped the wheel off on Tuesday and they were nice enough to loan me a loaner rear wheel so I wouldn't miss an upcoming mid-week ride! They promised to have it for my by Saturday, but emailed on Thursday to say it was ready. I bought a set of custom wheels from a local bike shop many years back. The build was Chris King hubs, titanium spokes and Mavic ceramic hoops. They looked nice, but a spoke would break during every mountain bike ride. I'd go back to the shop, get it fixed and a different spoke would break on the next ride. They would find whatever spare spokes they had lying around, it didn't matter what size or gauge. They would loop it through the hub and tighten down the nipple. It would get me through a few miles before another spoke would pop. This all changed when I found out fellow cyclist/mountain biker/bmx'er/engineer, Rich, was building wheels. I talked to Rich and he told me to bring them down. He had a full shop setup in his home. Tons of spokes, hoops, hubs, a tension tool and a trueing stand. He replaced the spokes with new Sapim's and educated me on the importance of proper wheel building. A casual ride, training ride or race never ended prematurely after discovering Wheelbuilder. It didn't matter how many ruts or rocks I would ride over. From that day, I knew this man would reach success with his company. All the Wheelbuilder wheel sets I own have performed flawlessly. WHAT A GARBAGE! Ordered wheel set from wheelbuilder (order #359770) and after one week the wheels arrived. No Email or anything that would let me know that wheels has been shipped. Wheels arrived with 3 bent spokes and wrong tension. After very short ride I had to go to LBS to true the wheels. WHAT A SCAMMERS! read more

So I had multiple issues with a Roval wheel that a local bike shop was unable to resolve even though they were an authorized Roval dealer. After taking the wheel to Wheelbuilder, they re-built the wheel and I have not had an issue since. Unfortunately, the dealer may have used the incorrect spoke length when they replaced a few trying to correct the issues making it worse. Wheel building is an art, and I recommend these guys all day every day. read more

I have to look for a wheel replacement after my rear carbon wheel warped while riding down Mt Baldy road. It was my last workout in Pomona before flying to Houston the next day to join Ironman 70.3 Texas ... I have to say these guys are in a different class. I bought a set of popular production rims for my mountain bike from a southern California bike manufacturer (that probably has them made in china) 6 months ago. I ended up with a broken spoke on a slight downhill while braking behind the cassette a few days ago. The manufacturer was no help in obtaining a spoke, specifications or on where to send us to purchase one. They were too busy saying a stick went into the spoke which isn't covered under warranty. I explain it happened behind the cassette so that was not possible but I didn't care about the warranty, I just wanted to know where to purchase one and they would not help me at all. First time I have replaced one and there are so many different specifications in obtaining the right one. I came across wheel builder website and they had everything. I did the best job I could and ordered some from their website. A few hours later I discovered I ordered the wrong products. I called and talked with a lady (forget her name) who was extremely helpful. She pulled the already processed order from her outbound shipping and replaced it with the correct product and it shipped out the same day. They did all of this for a $20.00 order. Spokes came in today and fit perfect. These are great people here and believe in helping their customers. All of my future wheel purchases will be from wheelbuilder.com. This is my first review simply because I have better things to do with my time but after their help it was the least I could do. Thank you. read more

Bought a pair of Zipp 202's with DT Swiss hubs. From the get go, the front and back wheels exhibited a very bad brake pulsation. I took the wheels back several times, only to be told they were fine. I was told the runout was some outrageous tolerance. Being in the automotive industry for 28 years plus, I was very skeptical of the answers I was being told. I finally got in touch with the owner Rich Swaris who test rode the wheels and realized their was a major problem. Apparently I was told by Swaris that Zipp shipped Wheelbuilder a bad batch of rims (hoops as they call them). The hoops apparently had a thickness variation along the brake track which was causing the brake pulsation. The front wheel was replaced under warranty and several months later the rear wheel was also replaced. The run around I went through, time spent bringing the wheels back and forth, and at the end of the experience, poor follow up. Swaris needs to spend some time implementing a quality control process. In all fairness to Wheelbuilder the product they are selling are of high quality, but the wheel build process needs to be improved. For the amount of money I spent on the wheels, I expected more. If you decide to give Wheelbuilder a try, be aware of the build process. I will not be going back to them. read more
