Food was spectacular. Service was absolutely horrible one woman took our order and we never saw her again. Had to constantly ask someone when we needed things like you know cutlery and napkins. No one ever checked on us not once. Had to ask for another beer had to go ask for the check etc.. not sure I've I'd go back purely because of the service. For a burger bar, Cowbell is pretty sub-par. There's nothing remarkable about the actual burgers, and the kitchen staff seems to have trouble getting the ingredients right on their specialty burgers. The most recent travesty was the Korean BBQ, which came with cabbage--plain, unpickled, unseasoned cabbage--on an untoasted bun (pictured). Hey Ho there is a new burger joint opened in downtown Biddeford, just two doors up from Custom Deluxe. And I also heard there is ANOTHER new burger joint, or maybe burger shack someone said, just around the corner. So Biddeford is definitely improving on the culinary front, and this place is a really comfortable little den for beer/burger lovers, let me tell you. The lighting is low, you can stand, you can sit at a long bar, you can set yourself down at a table or a booth, they put some thought into how to use the space, because this is a relaxed kind of place that you might just want to use for heavy drinking. Why? They have like what looks like over two dozen beers on tap, crazy selection, and a fully-stocked bar. I don't know the bar scene at all in Biddeford, since this is a work/lunch town for me, but I can easily imagine sampling a half dozen of these fresh brews and straggling on home!! OR even better, stumbling over to Banded Horn brewery and starting all over again, it's like a two minute walk from this place. I have been getting only burgers here since I started coming, trying different types, and the selection is huge. In the end, it makes me realize I don't know that much about appreciating burgers, so I guess the most important part of my review is a bit of a letdown. Sorry! I've been here twice. The first time I waited for at least a half hour for a burger and a lump of grease called beach fries. While waiting for my lunch some guy who seemed to be the owner or something just kept bad mouthing other local restaurants. Not something I want to hear from a local place. The second time I got my meal in a decent amount of time, but shared bar space with someone who placed their dog on the bar where food is being served and consumed. Came here on a Wednesday night not knowing what to expect due to the average ratings on Yelp. To my surprise this place was awesome. The prices were incredible, the food was delicious and the service was spot on. This has to be one of the few restaurants I've been to where I never had to ask for anything. Refills on sodas before I needed one, extra plates and silverware all delivered without prompt. I will definitely be back and I'm happy I found a new place to go when I'm in Biddeford. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by Cowbell Burger Bar. I've read a few bad reviews and have heard from several people that it's not good. Well, I disagree. We had a perfectly delicious dinner last night. I got the Salmon Burger, which is actually a decent piece of salmon, not a patty, on a delicious brioche bun. It came with sweet potato tater tots, so yummy. Gratefully it is a block from my office so we walked over. Came for a mid-week lunch and there were no lines or waiting. We could sit right down and check out the menu choices. We ordered drinks and waited. It takes a couple minutes to cook up a good burger and prepare it so the wait didn't seem too long but it did take a minute to get the burgers. Once they landed on the table we dove in. Excellent presentation and cooked exactly how we ordered them-which is very important to me! I ordered the cowboy burger-cuz when at the cowbell get the cowboy and stick with the theme! IT WAS SOOOO GOOD!! You'll need lots of napkins but worth it!! It comes with everything I needed to make the best burger! Parking is limited to the street so just know that you may have to walk a little and you'll be glad that you did. I'd like to start this review off by saying I have a bad head cold and definitely want to come back and try this place again when I'm healthy. I had soup and sweet potato tots. The tots were awesome. The chowder was good but beware- a cup is really a ramiken. I wanted to get a burger but because of my head cold I did not. My friend had the aloha burger with side of tots. She said the burger was great. It looked good and a decent portion size. Of note, you can also get a lettuce wrap instead of a bun, which I always enjoy bc buns is often so disappointing. The place was very clean, though service left much to be desired (I had to find a napkin set up for us and we waited a long time for the actual food, despite it being fairly empty, but the server was very pleasant). Met up with some friends here last night around 730 pm. Fairly busy but the 4 of us sat at the bar . The bartender was friendly and split her time between 2 bars and wasn't terribly attentive . The atmosphere was pub like with plenty of tv's. Clean and not too noisy . Menu was one double page laminated . Assortment of specialty burgers and pub like food . Plenty of drafts to choose from including an IPA from Maine beer company and Banded horn . Food came out in about 20 minutes . We all tried different cuts of burger including grass fed, steak burger, and regular burger . There was also a Bison choice that no one ordered . Burgers were average . I ordered mine medium and it came out well done . Everyone else seemed to be okay with their doneness. It was very noticeable just how dry these burgers were . None of them were juicy, which is what I was hoping for . If your going to be a burger place , shouldn't you make sure your burgers are excellent ? I had the sweet potato tots , highly touted by the waitresses wearing t-shirts with "show us your tots" on the back . I think they were frozen and just okay . The fried looked hand cut but my girlfriends were cold . All in all, typical barely average pub food with an okay atmosphere and service . The burgers here are great and the beer selection is as good or better (the Maine beer selection is impressive). They have a nice selection of burger creations and different kinds of meats (turkey, bison, etc.) and you can create your own. They have a good selection of appetizers and sides and other sandwich/entree options. The prices are good. They have happy hour Monday-Friday 3-6pm with 2 or 3 select drafts for $4 and I believe a house wine and well drinks for $4 too. They have all day happy hour on Sunday but the $4 beer is only either Shipyard or Sam Adams (this could be improved by offering a wider selection for this happy hour special). I think the only food happy hour special is 3 sliders (mix and match veggie, beef, and/or pork) for $5 (this could be improved by offering a wider selection of food options for happy hour). They do have menu specials (for example, steak and cheese sub, steak tips, etc.) that could be better advertised. Their staff could do a better job at vocalizing happy hour specials and food specials when they greet you. They could improve in general by offering a UNE discount (this would encourage more people to come and they would make out in the end). The place is well lit and there are various types of seating (bar, high tops, counter, tables). There are plenty of TVs. They offer a Belgian waffle brunch on Sundays. Most importantly, they are doing something good by improving downtown Biddeford. read more

Fries were verging on cold, no salt, mostly small pieces. Ketchup offered after asking for was watery off brand. I've been to Cowbell three times now and have been satisfied every time. Last night, my friend and I went here for burgers and comedy. I ordered the BBQ Bacon Burger and added caramelized onions (Cowbell, if you want a tip you should make the caramelized onions a staple on this burger but no pressure hehe). My burger was so good!! Juicy and flavorful even though it was a little more well done than medium which is what I asked for. I also love the fries here, they are hand cut which is my favorite kind! Our waitress was super friendly and attentive given how many patrons she was waiting on. At one point I didn't know what I wanted for a beer and let her surprise me and she made a very good choice! Tried this place for the first time and we will definitely be back! For apps we ordered loaded sweet potato tots (think loaded nachos but with tots... AMAZING!!) all restaurants should serve them. We also had their boneless Buffalo tenders which were pretty good, as expected. For dinner we both had burgers which is their specialty. Both cooked perfectly and delicious. As for the service. They definitely left something to be desired. Our waitress was not attentive at all. They weren't busy and each time we needed her, we could see her socializing at the bar with other workers. A food runner brought us the apps as well as dinner and refilled our drinks. She should have gotten any tips involved. Our waitress also had long fake acrylics. Definitely not something you expect of someone handling food but she didn't really touch anything as she was too busy avoiding it. The food is enough to make us come back and tell our friends. Then the order taker (not really server) came up and asked if everything came out ok, when one meal was still missing. Tuesday trivia is so fun my boyfriend and I have gone twice and its been great. Staff is friendly but the first time the server didn't write down our order and unfortunately got a few things mixed up (we both have food allergies) but she fixed it and it ended up being fine and the burgers are DELICIOUS and cooked perfectly!! Second time we had a different server who was also sweet and everything was perfect, my only complaint was that I ordered the chocolate raspberry martini and I guess they were out of the Godiva liquor and instead they put Kahlua. I could tell right away and unfortunately had to send it back which I absolutely hate doing (makes me feel awful). The server took it off the bill and was understanding. They were busy so I understand trying to improvise but I wish they told me if they were out of the liquor instead and I would have gotten something else. The good: Clean and decorated well. Large selection of craft beer. Regular entertainment. The bad: Quality control on the food. My burger was ordered mid-rare and came well done with luke warm fries. My friends medium burger was burnt making it bitter and the tots weren't done. My replacement burger was cooked properly but had no seasoning making a $13 wagyu burger bland. If you specialize in burgers, the kitchen should know how to season and cook them. I can get a better burger for less from 5 places within walking distance.
