After deciding not to stay at another restaurant nearby, we ended up dining here, and we're so glad we did. From the moment we walked in, the staff was welcoming, friendly, and attentive, making us feel right at home. We started with the meatballs, French onion soup, and coconut shrimp, and every appetizer was flavorful and well-prepared. For our entrée, we ordered the filet mignon. The restaurant was also very accommodating to our kids. They prepared a simple penne pasta with butter, which was a big hit and much appreciated. It's always nice to find a place that is willing to accommodate younger diners without hesitation. We also sampled three different cocktails, and while they were all enjoyable, the Manhattan was the standout of the evening--smooth, balanced, and expertly crafted. The food was excellent, prices are reasonable and our waitress Judy was extremely attractive. The negative side to our visit was a personal meeting held across from our booth. It appears it was for a divorce. When the lady (who may have been owner or manager of the restaurant) said she didn't want to sign the papers because she was getting very stressed, what I believe was maybe a lawyer, called her soon to be ex and had him on speaker. You could hear the guy yelling. This was not the proper place to have such a conversation. There were several other places without having it across from our table. We made a reservation on 12/14/2023 for 4 adults and 5 children (7,6,5, 18 month twins). We arrived before 2 of the adults and we're seated. We were approached and felt pressured 4 times to order before the other 2 adults arrived and told them repeatedly we were waiting, and were talking 15 minutes tops. We ordered our food, and 20 minutes later our salads came out and so did the four kids meals when we specifically stated for the kids meals to come out with the adults. The main courses came out 40 minutes after ordering, cold and under cooked. We finished our meal, and all the whole getting scathing looks from the wait staff because of the inevitable food on the floor from the twins. Finally the waiter walked by, stepped on something, and stated to the other table "I stepped on some potatoes, unreal the mess". I then got some table napkins and began to pick up the food. The hostess, instead of telling a guest to stop and going to retrieve a dust pan, walks right by me four times looking at me. I felt I was treated very poorly here, I do not recommend if 1 you're in a rush or 2 you have kids that don't drop but a grain of rice. read more

Still the best place for a great dinner in the greater Danbury area. Been coming here since 1981..still solid down to earth great place. Baked stuffed lobsters one of the best and that includes across the USA. The Prime Rib while only on weekends now it seems is stellar. Clams casino fantastic and the clam chowder superb. Nice local spot for a good dinner. We usually go for special occasions (birthdays and such) but it's not anything super fancy where you have to get really dressed up. Tonight I did the shrimp cocktail and surf and turf with stuffed shrimp. The shrimp cocktail was ok, I would rate it a 6 out of 10. The steak was pretty good, juicy and cooked perfect, I would give a 8 out of 10. And the stuffed shrimp stuffed with crab was also really good. I would give that a 9 out of 10. Thank You - I enjoyed a wonderful time with my family . There was a couple that had a child who we all learned he was teething after 45 min of endless screaming . The Parents seem oblivious as there Son cried across the resturant . The Staff handled the many complaints until enough . The Manger politely addressed the issue . Don't bring your kids here - ok otherwise. A mediocre suburban chophouse and seafood joint where waitstaff may openly refer to your wife as a "bitch". This was our family haunt for father's day / my birthday's until today. Never been made to feel so unwelcome at a restaurant in my life. Long and short, came here for Father's Day 2023, like usual. The restaurant was obviously short staffed because there was a noticeable delay in service. At the time the Owner's Daughter was the GM, we'll get into more of that later. About an hour and a half into meal service, and my 17 month old son has been getting antsy. He's been on-off crying here and there since we arrived, and right around the time i put our dessert and last drink orders in, the GM shows up to inform us that we are making "other people uncomfortable" due to my son's crying and will be asked to leave if we can't get it under control. Mind you its Father's day weekend, suburban Danbury, Connecticut, at 6pm in the afternoon - Lower Manhattan on a Friday night at 8pm this is not (and good thing too because the food is garbage by comparison)! One would think the GM could tell the other patrons to chill and be patient, but no. So I take my son, loudly declare i am taking him for a "walk because we are making other patrons uncomfortable", and walk outside to try to prevent more of a scene. My wife, to her credit, stayed behind to clear the tab. At least the staff expedited our check and didn't charge us for desserts and drinks that never arrived. I hung outside the front of my restaurant with my son. My wife, despite it all, left a 20% tip because besides the management and one waiter, the service really was good My wife, did however, log her complaints to the waitstaff, and was loudly referred to as a "bitch" by "Josh Smith" and told by the same waiter that "she should take better care of her children" - in front of all the customers! If Josh has a hard time getting another job because someone googled this review, I'm sorry, but Josh you have no business working in this industry no matter how right you think you were. The final digestif was when i asked the GM if i could speak to her manager (who is Mom - i assume Mrs. Barbarie). As my wife are leaving, I call Mom, and tell her what happened. Instead of being apologetic, or even bothering to get "both sides" of the story and offer us something for 4 years of loyal patronage punctuated by the most shit night I have ever had at a restaurant, ever - do i get a "sorry", or a "we'll look into it"? Hell No. I was told it was my own dumbass fault for bringing a crying baby to this restaurant. Too bad my son wasn't the only kid crying in that restaurant tonight, otherwise i wouldn't feel nearly so jilted by the whole affair. Wow! This is my third time here and my meal was outstanding! First I started with a salad which of course was pretty standard. My main entree was Filet mignon (8 oz med rare) and it actually was served medium rare! It was a really nice size and was bursting with flavor. It actually melted in my mouth. I have to say,!it was worth every penny ($35). The mushroom glaze smothered on top was delish and added to the meal. My sides wee a baked potato and string beans (paid extra) which were cooked perfect. My only complaint is that we were charged for a refill on the soda which I think is very tacky. Don't come if you're entitled! Father's day, June 18th 2023. I come in with my family and we're seated in the middle of the dining room. It's a smaller table but this place is PACKED, yet they somehow manage to get food and drinks out quick and efficiently. While I'm seated what do I see happening to a freshly cleaned table? This young couple grabs it to attach it to their table. Sitting there is two adults and 2 infants, meanwhile I'm sitting here as 4 adults at a table that was the original size of their first table before installing the addon. What I saw could only be described as the portrait of the last supper, and to my surprise it WAS their last supper. What I witnessed was beyond entitlement. Two toddlers screaming all night and the manager only asked if they could somehow get the child to calm down. The next thing I saw was the father walk over to the bar area with a child in hand and the mother stood up in front of the dining room other child in hand. The mother started yelling in the middle of dinner in a sarcastic tone about how two toddlers ruined fathers day. I was later told the father was patrolling the bar, kid in hand with his middle finger up (Great parenting by the way). When the duo left with their offspring I will tell you personally that multiple tables thanked the wait staff. Nobody walked out, we all enjoyed a very much so less annoying dinner only brought upon by an entitled mother and father that have no idea what a baby sitter is. If your kid is teething, perhaps order in for the night. I am writing this weeks after, as I came in again to have a yet again nice meal with my family. It turns out when you treat people with respect and a mutual understanding of how situations might turn out, everyone gets what they want. I asked my server who was on that Father's day how everything turned out and they pointed me to this yelp review of what seems to be the couple posting multiple times. This is NOT a family restaurant! Although the food is good and the ambiance is nice. Do not bring your your young children here! I was in shock watching a family basically get thrown out of this restaurant on Father's Day weekend!! They were told by the Manager that their small child was making people feel uncomfortable because he was crying (off and on throughout dinner)! The Manager (daughter of the Owner) told the mother and father to take their child for a walk or leave. Yes, you heard me! My family was in shock by just how the Manager spoke down to these parents. The mother actually paid the bill and as she was leaving announced that she was sorry to those her one year old made uncomfortable and that her whole family. She also said that he was teething (she was holding him). The Manager ran up to this mother's face and screamed - GET OUT OR I'LL CALL THE COPS. She had already said she was leaving - cut this woman a break! Then waitstaff said (in the middle of the whole restaurant) that she should take better care of her child! Yes, you heard me right again! While another older woman, also waitstaff, went up to her face and was being nasty to her as she was trying to leave with her child on her hip! As the mother was leaving, this man (he said his name was Josh Smith since the mother asked) ran behind her and her child and yelled out BITCH! My family and I were so digusted that we also decided to leave - and we were NOT the only ones. I honestly think the complaints came from SOME of the staff and NOT the customers. We will not be giving this restaurant any more of our money. They say that they are a family restaurant, but they're really not. I'm sorry to the parents out there that go through situtations like these. I urge other families/individuals to NOT give this restaurant your money in support of just people respecting other people, especially when they have very young kids. I know how hard it can be. Came here for a wedding rehearsal dinner. Everyone was in jovial mood, and the wine was free flowing, but even slightly drunk I could recognize crappy food. Not sure why it was so crowded- friendly waiters? Surprisingly nice interior? Unfortunately the food killed the ambiance and awesome wait staff. For apps there were oysters served with bacon and super greasy calamari (enough said). Usually bacon can make anything taste good, but not this time around. The oysters had a funky taste to them (which left me wondering if I would spend the entire night on the toilet :( ) For dinner I had an awful crab bake with shrimp. Basically alot of cheese and some seafood thrown in-awful! Many others at the table had the prime rib which was huge!!! They thought it was decent , but is it necessary to serve half a cow? Incredible! Jim Barbarie's is an absolutely stunning restaurant with friendly faces, great service and an in depth knowledge on how to make delicious meals for a decent price. I have been here a few times however my most recent time by far was the best experience had! To start off, we came in on a Thursday at 11AM upon opening. A stokers on the rocks with fresh oysters on ice making an incredible appetizer. I ended up ordering a Guinness with that alongside a Dark and Stormy for the remainder of my lunch. The drinks were cheap and made to perfection, loving the variety of tastes and flavor. The Freedom Dip was amazing! The combination of savory and salty was the best choice made, especially with the beer selection. I was so stuffed but even their deserts looked legitimate!
