seriously over-rated much like its sister restaurant "rumba". the applebees esq menu leaves much to be desired with its generic salads/sandwiches/burgers. cowfish also offers a meager sushi menu with a whopping total of 2 dishes (none of which are actual sushi). 1 cooked crab roll and a simple tuna poke was about all the culinary geniuses could concoct. im glad they dedicate a sushi chef to making just 2 dishes...it seems really smart. the interior is definitely refreshed from its indian cove days. new paint has livened it up a bit in and various scattered furniture from restoration hardware outlet in tanger gives it a much more contemporary feel. as for the food....try harder. best maxta p read more

Me and my girlfriend ate at Cowfish a few days ago. We ordered sushi as an appetizer. I forget exactly which one, but I do recall it was loaded with crab. I also had the ribs and she had some sort of fish sandwich. Overall, our food was very good. For that, you get 5 stars. Now, where it went wrong... We were seated without utensils but noticed after we ordered our appetizers. Of course we needed napkins during our meal. Our waiter Mike was nowhere to be found. The appetizers arrived and we still do not have utensils. We ate our sushi and received utensils after. Thanks to the hostess for noticing we needed them. Then our main courses arrive. While eating we could of used a water refill, once again, Mike is nowhere to be found. We finish our food then wait about 10-12 min for our table to be cleared. We spot Mike assisting everyone but us. He came to the table directly behind us 3 times and didn't come our way to clear our table. He finally gets to our table and clears it. Not once did he refill our cups. He tried to rush off and I stopped him and asked for more water. Mike seemed to concerned with other tables and concerned with sweeping up instead of checking on us. Me and my girlfriend felt singled out. We thought maybe he had something against us. The entire exchange was just very awkward. No eye contact, not a smile. He was very dry but not rude. I understand Cowfish gets busy but there were several times he could of popped by to ask if everything was ok. It takes a few seconds. He literally did not come to our table once. This was the best meal that we've had in this trip! The 5 of us ordered the scallops, the NOLA shrimp and the crab cakes and all of them were outstanding! A great environment whether it's friends for drinks a romantic night or a family night out. My first visit winter of 2015. So the menu was not the seasonal menu but their option were great for the Christmas season. The service was excellent and very attentive. Our waiter was kind and our food came out on time Just to enjoy the company as well. Great food I must say and the views of water made it so much more special. I will definitely go back when it warmer weather to enjoy the outdoor scenery and be able to take the boat to the bar crowd at their sister restaurant Rhumba. Can't wait for the season. I went here for lunch the other afternoon and everything was absolutely amazing! The views are beautiful, and the food was even more beautiful! Seat myself because the hostess couldn't be bothered walking us upstairs? No problem. No napkins, knives, or forks? No problem. Take our food away before we are finished and drop the check 15 seconds later? Big problem. Food=whatever. On the positive side, like it's sister restaurant Rumba, the rum punch is where it's at. They should have spent more time on menu planning then the decor. No vegetarian options on the menu and unable to accommodate a veg/vegan other than a salad. I heard rave reviews for the buffalo shrimp but it tasted more like BBQ and was $12 for 3 shrimp. Drinks are weak and tasted like soda. This place is a great setting for dinner and drinks. Location is fantastic and the food is sold. The only reason I leave 2 stars is because I got a call from my CC company and apparently their bartenders like to , ummm add tips to bills after you signed. This was the second time this happened to me at this place and both times the CC company took care of it. But be warned, ask for a copy of the final receipt since their bar-tending staff seems to be known in the area for adding gratuity to bills. read more

One of my favourite restaurants to eat at in the Hamptons!! When I am not ordering the amazing Maui wowi roll I make sure to order the chicken Caesar which has amazing CORN BREAD CROUTONS!! These croutons are amazing and the salad is even better. Another one of my favourites to order is the kale salad, which has a light an fruity taste, with a delicious lemon vinaigrette dressing! Also make sure to order the cookie skillet for dessert; this cookie is loaded with chocolate chips, drizzled in caramel and topped with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream. The cookie is served right out of the oven with a warm soft gooey center and it is absolutely delicious! Don't think twice just go eat at Cowfish! read more

First thing in going to say is: COME HERE. Okay so, my boyfriend an I are literally on our way home from cowfish right now. Our experience was amazing from the moment we sat down. Our waitress, Rita, was soo sweet and friendly. We first ordered rum punches and chips and gauc. Our drinks came quickly and about 5 minutes went by after and Rita brought us out the deviled eggs app. She said "we have guac, it's just not ready yet, so I brought you the deviled eggs in the meantime." First of all, the deviled eggs were absolutely amazing, and second, she did not have to do that! So sweet. (Our guac came out 10 mins later, if that.). We ordered our entrees, 2 of their specials that day (a salmon dish and and swordfish dish)...After one bite my boyfriend started to feel nauseous and weak (we had spent 6 hours at cupsogue, on beautiful but HOT day) and from there it went downhill, but everyone there was so generous and helpful the whole time. Especially our waitress, Rita and the manager Matt. Matt brought my boyfriend cool towels, a bag of ice and to top it off, he brought over a to-go of the swordfish entree, ON TOP of the swordfish we had wrapped up. This evening, our party of 6 went to Cowfish in Hampton Bays, New York. We were asked to wait 40 minutes for the table we requested outside, overlooking the bay and the sailboats. We were walked upstairs to the wrong side of the restaurant, outdoors, where the sun was beating down, causing us to start sweating a lot. We asked for a table in the shade or a table on the correct side of the restaurant, but we were told that that would be another 45 minutes. The table next to ours that was in the shade, we were told, was reserved for another party. No matter how kindly we asked if we could have a shady table, we were told, "No." The waitress came to our sun-drenched table, holding a menu, fanning herself with it the entire time she spoke with us. I respectfully asked the seating manager if we could please have another table, and she looked at me as if she were saying, "Who the hell do you think you are. You will be lucky, Buster, if we find you another table." A few minutes passed, and we were told that there was one window table downstairs that we could have. So, we walked downstairs. Right next to the window with sailboats and the bay were two tables that could be put together for a party of six. However, the employee walked our party to a window table on the other side of the restaurant, a dark window that was completely covered by the leaves of a large plant. Two of us stood by the table with the excellent view, as the table was being reset. The staff looked at us, and shook their head, "No, you do not get that table, you get the other table, without a view." We sat down at the better table, and management decided not to remove us from that table. Then, I ordered clam chowder as an appetizer, and it arrived cold. Nine minutes later, the waitor, Patrick, took the soup away from the table and promised to replace it right away. 20 minutes later, with no new soup, I cancelled my order. 1 minute later, the soup was delivered to the table, long after everyone else had finished their first course. Patrick said to me, "Because your soup was delivered cold, and then you had such a long wait for the replacement soup, there will be no charge for the soup." When the bill arrived, the soup, in fact, was on the check. What a pity. It was not removed. By mistake, other people's food was delivered to our table, as well. Twice. Clearly, the serving staff does not know one table from another. The food tonight was simply mediocre and the service was the same. The customer service in the beginning was simply awful. Was my swordfish alone worth $32.00? Not at all. I shall never again dine at this establishment. When they walked our party to the most unappealing table they had, they should have just said, "Why don't you just dine somewhere else." Was this meal worth $300? Not a chance. Please think twice or three times before dining at Cowfish Restaurant. 100% disappointment. read more

We took a trip out east..we love to do that before it all gets crazy with endless traffic .. We had made reservations..but upon our arrival, no one asked..At 6:30 ,the place was pretty packed..we were seated by a window, great views ( after all the snow, a genuine treat for the eyes..if things,moments to come..) our server Nicole was awesome..made great recommendations as well as accommodated our allergy issues..we had the oysters( yum!),mushrooms, and a side salad..all very tasty. We ordered the cod(just perfectly prepared) ribs( meaty,flavorful...devoured..only the bones were left!)..the desserts and coffee( French pressed,just delightful)..oh I can't go without mentioning their drink selection ,which had some interesting items..one of which was.."Sexual Chocolate"...a California red....which was pretty good. Can't wait to go back..on this particular night, it wasn't loud, but it was packed. Before Rumbas moved in, that property was a dead location and now it is flourishing- and likely continue in its success. I enjoy Rumbas, even if it does have a limited menu. What it does have is made well and presented well and delicious enough to come back for. Service has been pretty decent too. That being said- CowFish is on the same level. They took that location and turned it into a goldmine. The perfect hamptons restaurant- much needed in the area. The Rum Barge cruises down the canal shuttling people between both restaurants. I mean, no one ever thought of a better idea! So I have to give a positive review complimenting the ingenuity of the owners. They must be creative and clever people. The only negative comment I would add is that CowFish is slightly more expensive than Rumba, especially in the sushi department. I would say a nearly $30 roll/creation here is truly worth say $12. read more

Spent two days at the a Hamptons with dear friends and decided to go for an "Americana" experience. We enjoyed cocktails by the bay and then had dinner inside this marvelous place. We went here with a group of friends for my brothers birthday this past weekend. They wouldn't seat us until our entire party had shown up (which I expected) so the hostess recommend we grab a drink at one of their 3 bars. We chose the outdoor one since the weather was in our favor (although the forecast had been calling for rain). It worked out perfectly! They had live music and the outdoor bar was enormous! The bartender came right over and was super sweet! The drinks were tasty and strong, and cost each of us about $11 average per drink. I had made a reservation for 6:30pm and was nervous when the rest of our party was running about 10 minutes late. However, once they arrived we were seated right away. But then, it kind of went down hill. Regardless of how nice the environment was, our waitress didn't initially come to the table until about 10 minutes after we had sat down - not even to ask for our drink order. Then, trying to grab her between ordering and being served our food was nearly impossible. One of the people from our group wound up having to get up and find her a few times. The food was average. Everyone ordered a burger and enjoyed it except for me. I had the salmon which was "chef selected" and paid $36 - a price that was not listed on the menu, and was EXTREMELY over priced considering what came on the plate; a salmon filet with two salad concoctions that were very tasty, but not very proportionate, and NOT worth $36 total. Granted I take blame for not asking the price before ordering, yet still, it was WAY over priced. Additionally, the taste wasn't anything to write home about. After we ate we hung around the outdoor bar for a few more drinks, then conveniently caught the small tiki boat that runs back and forth from Cowfish to Rumba. The boat ride was very relaxing and arrived about every 10 minutes or so for pick ups. We got right on with no wait. The same went for when we decided to return to Cowfish. So, overall the experience was nice. I've been to Rumba for a meal as well and definitely prefer to go there based on food and service quality. I would go back to Cowfish, but probably only for the spaciousness of the restaurant, and the outdoor bar. read more

Cowfish is a great restaurant to have in the community. While the menu gets a bit stale and could be a little better value, the burger is one of the best in the area and the kale salad is nice. Great food and most of the servers know the menu and how to advise on dishes and wines. I've been here several times and each time was very good. I loved the kale salad, salmon, burgers, shoestring fries, and any wines I chose to have with these meals. The place is really jammed from early on each weekend, so if you're going for dinner try on the early side, if not you'll wait upstairs at the bar in winter or outside at the bar in summer.
