OK, one of the few topics where I'm NOT amused. For starters, in all their marketing the prices are "introductory" and soon shoot up, preying on human laziness and stupidity. (see any parallels with the banking system's lack of business ethics that got us into the current economic mess?) Right away that puts them in the same moral neighborhood with certain politicians and backyard used car salesmen. When they're slamming the cost of satellite, I can get Cox cable for only $12.95 a month, with FREE HD! (free as long as I upgrade to Expanded and upgrade to Digital and rent the digital box and ...) So why is my Cable TV $125 per month? As an ISP OK. Broadband ROCKS! (other than that little thing about COX interfering with file-sharing by blocking its customers' Internet connections. The Associated Press and the Max Planck Institute found that about 54% of Cox users were blocked while using P2P file-sharing services, in spite of FCC's "displeasure" -- both spineless tools of the RIAA and MPAA if you ask me. (Valid load concerns don't justify the amount of interference at all hours.) As a cable TV service...that's another story. **Their HD isn't always "HD." Nobody broadcasts in 1080p, but a lot of content isn't even 1080i. Technically, 720p is considered HD, but is only half the quality of 1080. Some looks like it must have been scaled down to 480. Their compression can be so aggressive I get tiled screens and sound glitches all the time, especially on the more obscure HD channels. A sports, action film, or animation on another channel grabs quality from the IFC movie you're watching through tricky multiplexing algorithms. (DirectTV is supposedly far worse.) At least once analog is left behind, there will be more bandwidth available, and when MPEG-4 is implemented more, quality should improve. **Their program guide is nicely laid out -- for 1982. It looks like a DOS application written by 12 year olds in Vietnam. Tivo's interface was decades more advanced 10 years ago! **Why does the INFO for so many listings have "Program Information to be announced" while I can get all the details from several web based guides a week ahead? **Don't even bother trying to use the "On Demand" service. The interface is SOOOO maddeningly difficult to navigate and slow to update after you hit a button, you'll hopefully exit that before you start throwing things at the TV. As a Computer Science instructor, I would give a freshman a pity D - if that were turned in as a project. **Not sure if programming running slightly off schedule is network or Cox delay, but the PVR lets you THINK you extended the record time to not cut off the last minute of the show AGAIN. Go back and check and it often doesn't stick. Oh, and making that change can cancel recordings at other times under "Always on this channel" settings. **They often push through unannounced firmware updates to fix some bugs. That's why several other things you are used to suddenly don't work anymore until they re-fix them. **And then there's the price. Can you spell M O N O P O L Y. I'm constantly on the verge of going satellite. Maybe if they read this & squeeze my bandwidth for it, they will finally push me over the edge. On the good side, when I call for tech support and grind my teeth through minutes of automated voice hell, I usually get a real human (speaking English relatively well) without long hold times. Then again I usually call at 3 AM. Finally, as a local phone company: Originally I switched from PacBell because COX didn't nickle & dime for local "zone" calls across town. Now I see Del Mar is a 10 cent per minute toll call from where I live in San Diego. ******** AND the MOST offensive thing of all: remember when the FCC forced all phone companies to let us transfer (keep) our phone numbers if we changed providers, so they could no longer hold us hostage to keep crappy service? Well look closely at your bill and one of those indecipherable surcharges is a monthly fee Cox charges so you can transfer your number. That was the explanation I got when I called. I asked, "What if I never transfer it?" "It's to cover the cost of keeping your number in the data base in case you do." was the reply. "Didn't it just go in there when I set up my account? Do you have to reenter it every month?" I asked, suddenly realizing I was beating my head against a wall. Just another BS charge. Why? Because they can. read more

I went into the Cox store to return and equipment that I had rented out from Cox in SB area. I didn't realize I had to return it in SB and I just brought it down to SD with me when I moved down. However, the customer service rep was very helpful and said that they will mail the equipment back up to the SB Cox office for me. Despite the helpful representative at the store, I had HORRIBLE experience with the tech who came to my house to install the internet. After he completed installing the Cox modem and the wireless router, our internet still didn't work. So he stayed longer to try to figure out what the problem is. Even after a while he still couldn't figure out why the wireless didn't work and he started complaining that he's working overtime. Honestly, is it my fault that he can't do his job? In the end he said it's the router's fault that wireless doesn't work and left. However, I know for sure that the router DOES work because when another tech from SB looked at it, he actually complimented the router and asked me the price and where I bought it so he can get the same one for his home AND he was able to make it work. So Chula Vista COX sent me this incapable tech who can't do his job and all he can do is complain about overtime. I would give it a one star actually, a NO STAR if I could, but I will give it two stars thanks to the friendly rep I had at the store. read more

Been a loyal Cox customer for more than 20 years. Their internet used to be very stable but the past few months it's been absolutely horrible! I have had no internet access the last 2 days. Calling their support line is a waste of time and an exercise in futility and frustration. Initially I hear a recording telling me that there "may" be an outage in my area. It then precedes to dump me into their worthless automated helpline. Hitting any other button to try and speak to a human is futile. The automated voice tells me to reboot my modem which by now I have done at least a hundred times in the last several days. And then tells me it's waiting for my modem to come online which of course it never does. I end up hanging up on their stupidity. I'm done with Cox' constant issues with connections I will be checking out an alternative, most likely AT&T. read more

My goodness, what great customer service I received from a solutions specialist named Melissa. She was so helpful and even gave me her card so I could personally follow up with her later on. I came here to inquire about switching out to Cox cable again since ATT Uverse sucks. As everyone here states you have to wait in line and check in to be seen. From what I see this is a store you can pay off your bills at or buy new service. I haggled the associate for any deals and he talked me into getting the cable, internet, and phone for $99. I was paying $120 for TV and internet with ATT. A few hours later as I got home I realized I was unfortunately locked into a year contract with ATT internet but was still able to get rid of the TV service. I called back Cox and they gladly helped me keep their TV service I just picked up but got rid of the phone and internet service since it was pointless keeping it. Cox and their customer service is leaps and bounds better then ATT and that is the sole reason I switched out. Every time I spoke to an ATT associate it seemed like I was sent to some call center in the Philippines and they had no idea what was going on with my account when I had a problem. I am saving about $5 a month now with Cox cable and couldn't be happier. read more

I have nothing but negative things to write about this particular store. I bought another DVR box for my living room since I was running out of storage space. I found out that I got the wrong order since I received a TV Streaming box instead. As a result, I went to this store to get it exchanged with the DVR box that I requested. When I arrived at the store I needed to sign in to be put on the queue. During my 15 minute wait I seen several specialists in a group laughing and messing around not doing their jobs. When it was my turn I told the specialist that I wanted to exchange the item for the DVR box. He mentioned to me that I needed to buy 3 TV streaming boxes (that same box that I received in error where the online customer service even admitted that they made a mistake on my order) in order to get another DVR box. This did not make any sense since this was never mentioned online and the online representative was in dismay about what he told me in the store when I tried to get the DVR box again online. I believe this particular store was trying to lie to me to get me to spend more money on products and the specialist (Joel Garcia) motive was to earn commission off me because as of now I got my extra DVR box shipped to me without jumping through these unnecessary hoops. As I explained how his claim wasn't consistent to what was advertised on the website he kept interrupting me to get me to buy the streaming boxes, very unprofessional. Worse customer service ever and I do not recommend anyone who lives in Chula Vista or generally San Diego to go to this store! Update as of 1/3/2020: I recently got my other cable box installed in the living room for free without the $75 installation fee and without having to pay for the 3 Streaming boxes which the guy at this store mentioned to me. The guy that came to my apartment to fix the cable that could have been easily fixed over the phone - awesome. The lady i talked to to cancel my COX cable - super nice. Cox Internet - faster than AT&T. Everything else - HORRIBLE. The worst customer service I have ever had. I was a COX customer for four days and I had enough. If you have a HD TV and you want great HD service go with DirecTv. It took me 4 days to figure that out. But their Internet is OK so far. Time will tell. read more

I payed insurance for almost a year and anytime something was wrong they said that wasn't a reason for a technition to come out. I stop paying, when my cable was not working and tech came out. Just about everyone in San Diego has Cox to serve their communication purposes. My one gripe with this company is that the internet goes down a few hours after the servicemen have left your house even though it was fixed. I know it happens and computers are not 100%, but come on, lets at least try to send someone out to fix the problem within a day or so. I think the last time my internet died I had to wait about three weeks to even get someone out. However, when the servicemen do their magic, it's very thorough and they have always been really friendly people. And they are the first service people to not have shady looking employees come into your house. Reputable guys. read more

We've had horrible luck with them lately. Our tv was going in and out occasionally with no real reason. Then I got our bill and as usual there was an "increase" (how is it that they increase it every few months???). Then I got a $25 fee for returned charge card transaction - check this people!! It was a glitch on their end and American Express stated it was never sent through - they "credited" me back the $25 but didn't bother to tell me that they had canceled my auto pay so I had to go in and set it up again. Plus I had to go in and pay the current month and last month bill immediately or they'd shut off my cable and internet. I canceled the cable tv because of this and just watch tv on hulu.com now. I really wish that we had UVerse in our area because everyone raves about it :( But I'm stuck with Cox (who the heck rated them #1 in customer service because they really don't care!!!!) ??? read more

I returned my router to this location, and the employee ensured me that my account had a zero balance, since I had canceled my service due to an upcoming 8-month deployment. Apparently, it was not cleared since they charged me a cancelation fee AFTER I deployed. I did not receive any notification of this fee via my online account, email or letter mail. I would have had no problem paying a cancelation fee. Very unethical. read more

So inconvenient, I would not recommend Cox for anything you hear a different story from each employee. I was told I can bring in my modem from 2008 and get the new model for free, that was a lie. They wanted to charge me $90 for a new one which they said I can just have it swapped for no charge. The billing is also ridiculous. I'm being charged for a "Bouned" method of payment and $25 for each time when there is more than enough funds in my account they said "you're bank rejected it" with out any explanation. They said there was nothing I can do except talk to my bank to reinberce me for Cox not successful taking my payment. I'm over Cox. Hopefully people don't experience what I did read more

I came in to replace my cable box because I had been experiencing some problems with it. I was immediately greeted at the door. The young lady at the door asked how she could help me. After I explained about the issues with my cable box, she took down my name and some information about the cable box and told me to wait a few moments and that another representative would soon be with me to assist me. I sat down on a chair and after about what must have been no more than three minutes, my name was called. I was helped by a representative named Melissa. She was very helpful. She replaced my cable box with a newer model which has been functioning just wonderfully. Altogether, I must have been in and out of the store in less than 15 minutes. Just needed to come in and exchange an AC adapter, the place was kind of busy. A gal came up and asked me what I needed, I told her I just needed the AC adapter exchanged, she said it would just be a minute. She was gone for about two minutes, she handed me a new AC adapter and I was out the door. Just that fast. The place is never that busy. I've never had to wait more than five or 10 minutes they do a good job there. Dealing with the public in a retail setting is not the best kind of job to have but they do it well. I've been a customer for 43 days. On my 27th day I received an email stating my account was past due and services would be turned off (weird). I've called 5 times for 3 different reasons and have been provided with false information 3 times. Last week I paid August and September together for a total of $143.05. Come Monday morning you drafted $287.05. I called immediately and after crying on the phone because there was no immediate assistance available for an immediate refund, the representative promised a "rush refund" in 72 hours. I called back today, 72 hours later, and was told no refund request was ever placed. This morning, Tisha in your tier 2 escalation department, who doesn't have an ID or last name, promised a refund in 24 hours but couldn't provide any confirmion in writing that she really submitted the request.
