As we were driving back from Avon/Beaver Creek, Colorado to Dallas, Texas, I looked at 'Texas Highway' magazine onine for restaurants in Amarillo, and I saw this Coyote Bluff Cafe recommended. Perfect timing and stop for dinner. We got there at 5:30. Their dinner hour are 5-10pm. Great food, service. Love the atmosphere. I don't normally leave restaurant reviews, so I will start out on a positive. I have been to Coyote Bluff on several occasions and 1 thing is true, great food and it was no different tonight. The thing I have the biggest issue with is horrible service. The shorter blonde lady was rude from jump. I have not encountered rude, bad service anyplace for a very long time and certainly didn't expect it here. I have no problem waiting on a table to become available. (means the food is good) We, three midsize to large men get seated at a 2 top along the wall and they seat a 2 top at a 4 top table at the same time. then they seat another 2 top at a 4 top that arrived 10 minutes after us. The server (tall blonde lady) says she will be right with us. She then proceeds to wait on the table of 2 that was seated 10 minutes after we arrived leaving us sitting for 15 minutes without drink or anything. I do not care how great or famous your restaurant is, you need to treat your guests respectfully. I take service seriously as my family has been in the food service industry for years. The attitude of the 2 ladies working tonight just SUCKED (the shorter blonde needs to find a new job) anyway, I won't be back. Hey short blonde lady, I'm the guy you barked at thinking I was going to ask to move to the table with 4 chairs you were clearing for 2 people to sit at. I wasn't rude to you one single time. Burgers are very solid. No complaints. But the green chile cheese fries used to be layered heavily throughout the cheese fries. Like there was literally more green Chiles than cheese. Now? They put literally like a tiny scoop of like 12 green Chiles on the top of the cheese fries. And these aren't even hatch green Chiles which like you could see if they downsized on the amount they give you. I am on a 3D get away. In Amarillo I came here! You would never come here thinking fancy and it does not have to be. Omg this place is so great! The atmosphere is just laid back but everyone is welcome! Old rock is playing and no tv so you can enjoy speaking to people. This place reminds me of something you find in a little town. As soon as I sat, they came over took my order and treated me like . A long known friend. Ordered the green chili cheese burger with fries. I didn't think it would be as good as what I get in NM, but I was so wrong! The burger when I took the first bite was so juicy. Wow! I don't know if they add any spice to the burger but it was great! You get grilled onions, a yellow onion pepper, freshly cut tomatoes. Yes I said freshly cut tomatoes! The onion bun is soft with a slight crunch from being grilled... yup yummy. Stopped here for dinner during our road trip to NM. It's a quaint little restaurant. I ordered the burger from hell and hubby got the hickory burger. We also got a basket of 1/2 onion rings & fries to share. Service was prompt and friendly, our food was served fairly quickly. We both really enjoyed our burgers. The onion rings were good and the fries were just okay. Overall, it's a good experience. We will probably come back the next time we pass through Amarillo. read more

So, I'm not good enough to order over the phone but my husband is? I called to place a to-go order because we were craving our fav burger joint (btw 3 min from home, too). The phone was answered but she said give me a minute, the phone was placed on the counter (I could hear people talking, baby fussing, etc) at 10 min & 37 sec, I was hung up on (no hello, how can I help you - just hung up on). I call back and am told, very curtly, order online, we're too busy. Then my husband calls 30 seconds later and the girl who answered took his order??? Really? 30 seconds later you're not too busy to take an order? Disrespected because I am a woman? Coyote Bluff used to be our go to - now I know why we have moved on - the service has deteriorated with the new ownership. Why even answer? Why not have a recording that say go to the website to order? Why was I treated differently than my husband? It will definitely be a very long time before we are back. To think, when I talk to people who are coming to Amarillo or are visiting I always tell them they have to visit Coyote Bluff. I'm pretty sure it'll be a long time before I say that again. Definitely five stars if you're looking for the "eat like the locals" experience. It was tiny, and there was literally a bathtub full of ice and long necks when you walk in the door. The place was covered from floor to ceiling with random decor. So we all had fun pointing out the most ridiculous things we could find. Yeah, no! These reviews make no sense. The burger was gross and the fried pickles were gummy with no dill. The bathroom was so close to our table and someone stunk it up. Just disgusting . This place is unique and the waitress was amazing at getting the food in and out but the food was just not good at all. None of us liked it or finished any of it. It's not glitzy nor glamorous, but the Coyote Bluff Cafe was just the type of place I'd been searching for since I first stepped into Amarillo last week. It's a small hole-in-the-wall with the type of vibe that just makes you feel like you're welcome, regardless if you're a local or a tired girlfriend who got dragged along to Northern Texas by her boyfriend who travels for work. We almost didn't even go here because my boyfriend's work buddy said he usually forgets about this joint due to their sometimes-hours-long wait! We must have gotten lucky, given the recent state of the social and physical environment (pandemic and winter storm). 20 minutes after putting our names down for a table for 3, we got sat and situated with drinks and menus. Drinks: Like I said, it's a hole-in-the-wall place; so don't come here looking for a cute cocktail. I'm not even sure if they have whisky pours? But they have a big ole bucket of ice cold beers, and honestly, do you really need anything else to quench your thirst and to pair with the smorgasbord of burgers and fries you're about to consume? Food Overview: We started off with some fried mozzarella sticks for an appetizer. The basket came with ranch, which I was prepared for a marinara dipping sauce, but it was still delicious nonetheless. The cheese sticks themselves were standard but what can I say, cheese sticks are life and are usually always a winner in my book! Then, we ordered a few burgers: mine - bacon cheeseburger with avocado and ranch; my bf: mushroom Swiss burger; bf's coworker: we forgot to ask because we just started chowing down once the food arrived! We also got a basket of onion rings and red/green chili cheese fries to share. Burgers: I loved that they had a few bun options (sorry, no gluten-free options, and obviously you're not going to find vegan options here so please don't even try to come here to just be offended!). They also had a decent amount of offerings/toppings. Our burgers were cooked to perfection--they were so juicy AND BIG! Mine was so big, I couldn't even finish it (even though I wanted to just keep stuffing my face). The guys enjoyed their burgers, too--at least I'm assuming so, given the lack of words and drowning sound of chewing!! Side Baskets: If you are an onion ring aficionado, then you know not all onion rings are created equally. As I looked at the ones we got warily, I prayed to the chubby baby Jesus they were cooked long enough that my neglected overbite could bite through them without feeding the entire onion slice through the breading tunnel. Chubby baby Jesus must've heard and answered my prayers because these were some of the best onion rings I'd ever had! Not too much breading, reminiscent of a perfect-ratio beer batter, and easy to bite through. The chili cheese fries were also darn good, although they did have a bit of a kick to them! However, that's to be expected unless you stumble across a generic, grossly pre-made slop that you think is chili but is really just leftover mystery meat from a school district that couldn't convince kids to eat. Midwesterners, keep in mind you ARE in Texas... so don't be that jerk that expects beans in the chili because that doesn't exist around these parts. (And so help me God if you even think to ask for a cinnamon roll!!!) Service & Ambiance: I'm pretty typed-out at this point, so going to keep it short on this section. The servers were spunky and hustlin'/bustlin'. We loved the homey feel and the smiles that came free with our meal. (Also, the red-headed gal that "shot" my friend with a bottle opener is a hoot!) In summary, you do not want to skip out on this burger joint when staying in Amarillo! Expect great food, great times, and don't forget to wear your yoga pants!!! read more
