I don't ordinarily write reviews for food obtained via delivery service, but this place was so good that I had to suspend that personal guideline. I was craving fried chicken, when I read a one-star review from someone complaining that beef tallow was used for frying chicken, so I knew I had to try Cozy Coop. Bone-in chicken thighs are my personal benchmark for comparing fried chicken, and Cozy Coop ranks among my top five, dine-in included. The chicken breading was perfectly crispy and crunchy without being a tough overwhelming shell. The chicken itself was nicely seasoned, and cooked to perfect doneness. This chicken is obviously cooked by people who are not afraid of chicken, so it wasn't dried out. There is an option to order "Well Done" if that's your thing, but I didn't do that. There are a large number of very tasty, nicely prepared sides dishes. Their Cozy Sauce is very good, but I wasn't crazy about the house-made hot honey. It had an acidic/tangy note that I wasn't expecting - sort of a sweet and sour vibe. Everything arrived quickly and well packaged for delivery. I went to Cozy Coop with a friend. It never misses. They have a variety of amazing southern food options. It reminds me of going to family's house. We ordered the buffalo strips, which comes with blue cheese crumbles and ranch along with lemon pepper wings, macaroni bites, greens, yams, wedge salad, okra, macaroni & cheese, and cornbread. First time there, passing by on travel. It's basically a combination of Zaxby's and Bojangles, with ribs. Service was great, food was decent, depending on what you ordered. My bbq boneless thighs were good, but coleslaw was flavourless. Would I return? Probably. But the syringe in the parking lot was a bit of a concern. read more

I tried this restaurant for the first time on April 15th through the Too good to go app. While I was waiting I decided I would order more food aside from the Two good app since I didn't know what I was getting and I was interested in trying as much as possible. The service at the counter was great however they were out of most of the items unfortunately but what I did have was disgusting. It was bland and taste as if it was out all day . I was super disappointed and decided to email them as they have a feedback portal on their site. When providing my feedback it asked if I wanted to be contacted regarding my experience and of course I said yes and provided my contact information , email/number etc . It's almost June and not one person as responded . So I'll have to give this restaurant a ZERO. They only have the one start because yelp forces you to give it . so would recommend them to anyone and had I known my feedback wouldn't be acknowledged. Cozy Coop makes excellent chicken. It is seasoned well, has crispy skin, the meat is moist and tender, and I think it is perfectly cooked. The cornbread portions are tasty and generous. One of their best sides is the wedge salad. The romaine lettuce is fresh and crisp with plenty of bacon and a dressing that tastes homemade. The salad is large enough to be an entree and overall is higher quality than you might expect at a fast food restaurant. In addition to preparing delicious food, the staff is friendly and efficient. We are visiting from out of state and one of us from out of country. We had the meal +3, one with okra, coleslaw and fries and the other with red beans and rice, Mac and cheese and collard greens. When we first entered, we thought the restaurant was reminiscent of a Zaxby's... let me just tell you that it is so much better than Zaxby's! Cozy Coop also has so much more than chicken and fries (hello ribs, collard greens, candied yams, etc)! We tried almost everything on the menu, but our favorite things had to be the Cozy Fries, ribs, chicken tenders, collard greens, and crispy okra. We also sampled all of the sauces, which were all good, but of course, the Cozy Sauce was the best. I was shocked at how good it was because the food was priced so well and the service was great and fast. They even have a drive thru to utilize when you're in a hurry. Disappointed. BUT....still want to encourage them because they use beef tallow!!! Not PUFA'S (poly unsaturated fatty acids) in the form of seed/veggie oils like canola, soy and yes, even sunflower). That being said they went to the trouble of creating a decent batter but decided to give it ZERO flavor except an insane amount of salt. The salt I can excuse as an over-enthusiastic newb employee mistake. But the trend of delivering flavor via sauces is annoying. KFC and poopeyes have done pretty well for decades with a wekl seasoned batter. Bojangles too (they have THE BEST chicken sammidge and ive tried them all). Hell publicks fried chicken has ten the flavor. The sauces were good but I don't want to have to use sauces on my friggin whole pieces of chicken So, much healthier, good texture, too salty, almost no flavor without sauces and .....very expensive. 16 tenders was 36 bux. I can get that for half at publix and far more flavor. But what I can't get is that chicken fried in a healthy oil. I would be absolutely fine with the price if the batter had killer flavor but it dont. The cornbread was very good and the woman at the drive through was very cool but damn, hard to recommend due to lack of flavor. Okay so it took a while for me to get around to trying this place out mainly for fear of it being no different than the other chicken places in the area. But on one lazy rainy day, I decided to place a delivery order. My order included: Chicken tenders combo Side collards Extra side red beans and rice A cookie with ice cream The tenders were good, although some were a bit chewy but definitely good amount and size. The cozy sauce and homemade ranch were really good (the containers are small so order 2 if you like sauce with every bite) The collards were surprisingly good as well and I loved the red beans and rice! The cookie and ice cream were also delish if you like sweets, it overwhelmed me some but I'm not a person that eats sweets on a regular so there's that. Picked up dinner and a couple of sides tonight. They were kind and explained service was a little slower than usual, as they were short staffed. Sides were cole slaw and red beans-rice. Liked the red beans more than the cole slaw. Now the fried chicken was excellent, old southern style as you'd expect, except for one simple thing, it was salted way too much! I do like to salt & pepper my fried chicken and glad I did check first. Suspect that being short handed, they might accidentally salted it more than once. Will I recommend this place? Yes. My total after tax was $11.40 you can't beat that for a full mean. Now, here's where things got... interesting. My first order was cold... I'm talking super chilled. I politely asked for it to be remade and of course the team responded accordingly and remade the food. This time it was decently warm but y'all it was sooooo bland... it was heartbreaking. Wasn't a pepper flake on the Mac or a spice in the greens. The chicken taste like it wasn't even seasoned either. The Cozy Coop is a cute restaurant with great food. We got lemon pepper wings and buffalo wings. The wings were whole and delicious. We also got fried okra, greens, a wedge salad, and a biscuit. ALL of the food was delicious. The food came out hot and freshest cooked. There was only one young lady working the front she was so nice and attentive. She worked the register and the lobby. Love it! Wish I had found this sooner. The food tastes just like my grandmother used to make it. I love that I can come here to get the things I can't find other places. The collards are wonderful! On the flip side, the red beans and rice needed more seasoning, and the lemon pepper wings were a tad too salty for my liking. These were the color of coffee grounds. Biscuit was light and fluffy but not exactly what I want in a biscuit. Cornbread was WONDERFUL...moist slightly sweet and a little cake like. This place has been on my list to try for awhile and I finally got a chance. I ordered through one of the food service apps and had it delivered. I give this place 5 stars. The food was really good. I'm definitely looking forward to patronizing them again and actually eating inside. However, with 5 stars I still would like to let them know about areas of opportunities. They should do a better job securing the food that's being delivered. It will provide peace of mind for the customers. In addition to tying the bags, they should also staple them. It will help to prevent any tampering. Also, the collard greens were really good but they need to learn to cut them better or use a different vendor. They have too many stems and most cooks who clean and cut their own collards, remove most of the stems. My husband, who is not a collard greens fan, really liked them as well. read more
