We went to the Crab Shack tonight for dinner. It's right on the water and feels like a place with more regulars than first timers. Our server was wonderful, friendly and welcoming. We asked her several questions and she knew the answers to everything. We ended up ordering an app and an entree each. She warned us that the oysters were hand shucked and might take a bit longer. No problem. We didn't mind when they came out. After 30 minutes, my husband's clam chowder finally arrived. It was delicious, but there was no reason for a cup of chowder to take 30 minutes. Chowder has to be made in advance. Thirty minutes after that, so an hour after we originally ordered, someone (the owner? another server? I don't know who.) said our food would be up soon. Our original server then came over to apologize and say that they hadn't even started our oysters, crab legs, or the Grouper platter at all. An hour later and they hadn't even started cooking?! It wasn't even that crowded. Surely shucking a dozen oysters doesn't take an hour?! We asked our server to cancel everything. We paid for the chowder, gave her a very generous tip for her trouble, and left. I cannot tell you how disappointed I was to have to leave hungry. Get it together Crab Shack! The food was good, we got the blackened haddock and it was surprisingly fresh tasting. The chipotle sauce was great as well with my tacos, they just forgot to put cheese on them but got it for me quick. Those in my party enjoyed the blackened haddock sandwich and the chicken wings. The wait was very long for the type of place this was we waited over an hour and it wasn't busy. The view on the water was nice though. read more

Oh my do my boyfriend and I LOVE this place. We come on Wednesdays and get the wing special.... 10 wings and a pitcher of beer for $15. It's so wonderful. Stumbled on this place while we were looking for a lunch place. The place is the perfect setting for a Florida dockside restaurant. The service was friendly and accommodating and the food was pretty good and plentiful for the price. We all needed boxes to bring home what we couldn't finish. The place stayed packed even though we were there at 3pm. If you're looking for a fun little dockside restaurant with good food at good price this is the place to go. read more

Crab Shack on the Cottee has a really cool ambiance, especially if you sit outside--sunset views over the river made for a beautiful dinner setting. I ordered the crab legs, which were delicious and fairly priced, though I was warned they can sometimes be hit-or-miss depending on the meat inside. They're served with butter, a bucket, plenty of paper towels, and a cracker tool--but no small fork, which made it tricky to get all the meat out. On the side, I had squash/zucchini and garlic mashed potatoes; both were a bit too heavily seasoned for my taste, overpowering the vegetables themselves. The service, however, was excellent--our server was attentive and on point. Outside, you'll notice plenty of cats roaming, which adds to the quirky charm. Prices across the menu felt fair, though the restroom could use some upkeep--it wasn't dirty, just not in the best condition (though I suppose that fits the "crab shack" vibe). Overall, I'd definitely eat here again and recommend giving it a try, especially for the atmosphere and riverfront experience. read more

DISCRIMINATED AGAINST FOR HAVING A SERVICE DOG! UPDATE: I chatted with the owner online. He was upset about my review, not what his employees did, blamed it on me and failed to see why it was discrimination. Seriously!?!? I walked in spoke with their two people at the hostess stand and specifically told them I needed a "table for 2 with a service dog" and even held up my paperwork which I am NOT required to do BY LAW! My dog also had a "service dog" vest on, AGAIN NOT REQUIRED BY LAW, BY US! The young girl kept trying to escort us to a table that was far removed from everybody else outside were not a single other person was sitting. I asked why we weren't being seated inside with all the other people. She said it was because I have a dog. I explained to her that I have a service dog but I didn't seem to matter. Then, I pointed out to her that there was another dog in there that was not a service dog but let in because of the owner. I asked the girl, so you're gonna let in a non service dog and discriminate against me for having a service dog? The non service dog was actually barking at our dog. When we walked in, the other dog started barking. My dog never made a sound! After discussion with some others, I left, I can't comment on the food because we never got to eat. I fully intend on taking this up with the ADA, health department, and the governor's office. We love dogs and wish all dogs are welcome whether they're service dogs are not -but don't let in non service dogs and then discriminate against service dogs!!! Duh! This is why there's such a problem with dogs and bars. Unfortunately, it's things like this why its so hard to bring ALL dogs to bars! Was wanted shrimp and this place did not disappoint. 1/2 dozen cold shrimp with side salad. Hubby ordered clam strips basket with side salad. Shrimp were big, cleaned and delicious. The seafood is always on point! I love this place. This is the perfect dive bar with excellent seafood. Sandwiches? Meh. Don't love the Philly cheese steak. The meat was definitely overcooked. BUT. The crab legs are always perfect. The oysters are plump and delish! The shrimp are fresh and huge! Yum! The atmosphere would do Parrotheads proud. Live music, sunshine, water and cold beer. We moved out of the area in 2012 and were back visiting this week. We used to love this place, so we decided to take the kids there. It was just as good as it was then! My husband got the grouper sandwich, I got shrimp tacos. Everything was delicious! We loved the waterfront seating area. It was nice seeing the boats cruise by and the kids liked looking for fish off the docks. The service is a little on the slow side, but it is worth the wait. read more

This place is a gem. The people are so friendly, the food is so good, and since the new manager took over, it's also very fun! We've only been here a few times, and there haven't been a whole lot of people there for some reason, but this last time we went - it was packed full. I enjoy the outside seating, and the beautiful scenery. I think this place is probably one of my favorites on the list right now. The clam chowder is very, very good and flavorful. My son loved the grouper sandwich and my daughter loved her food too. Sorry, can't remember what she got, but I do remember her finishing her plate. The last time we went was Halloween, and it was unexpectedly fun. We had our costumes in the car, so we quickly changed into them because they had a costume contest. Been there a long time ago, but went back with friends. Arrived and we were told it would be a 20-25 minute wait. My friend gave his name for the list and said we'd wait in the bar to have a drink. Working on a round of drinks for a while and my wife checks in with the host & hostess and they inform her we are not on the list and can't be put on now because the kitchen has closed. We are in the process of paying for the drinks and the bartender asks why we're leaving. We tell her what's happened and that we came to eat. She wants to talk with my wife because she's wrong??!! My wife tells her exactly what she was told and then a guy walks over and tells my wife the kitchen isn't closed... it's "in a wait"?!?! We are leaving my friend asks the kid who took his name why we weren't on the list and sitting before the "wait". Kid asks did you give me your telephone number? My friend states no, you didn't ask. Kid replies if I didn't get your number you're not on the list. My friend tells him now we have to leave and find dinner somewhere else. Kid says "too bad, that's not my problem I don't care." Really unbelievable attitude for a host, couldn't be bothered and doesn't care... seems like that might be the attitude of the cleaning crew there as well...just saying. read more
