Both service and food are great here, just like any other Cracker Barrel location. Generous portion for the price. We love Cracker Barrel!

Grilled chicken, Fried Okra, steamed broccoli. All very good!

We stayed next door in the hotel so CB was convenient. We were within an hour of closing and most staff were working on closing chores. It took a few minutes to get noticed for seating but once our server arrived at the table, she was very attentive. The food was hot and filling. The time from ordering to food on the table was quick. CB isn't flashy, but for dependable food at reasonable prices, this location can't be beat.

Good Food. Good Server. Hostess from Hell.

We came to Cracker Barrel for my husband's birthday because he enjoys the cozy, old-store ambience, but the experience was disappointing. The place felt dusty, overused, and a bit unclean, which took away from that nostalgic charm. Even my husband noticed that the table and floor were not all that clean, and I asked if he wanted to go somewhere else for his birthday, but he said, 'Let's just stick it out.' The biggest issue was with the hostess, Jo. She seemed irritated, was visibly sniffing with a cold, and even wiped her nose on her sleeve, which felt unsanitary. When we asked to be seated in a place away from high-traffic areas, she responded with a head bob and a condescending tone, 'Oh, well, we'll just have to see.' She then took us to a tiny two-seater table against a dust-covered latticework divider wall, rolled her eyes, and sarcastically asked, 'Will this do?' making us feel completely unwelcome. We also noticed her interactions with other customers; at one point, she even slammed a menu down on a table where she wanted to seat someone. Curious, I asked one of the gift shop girls about this grumpy old hostess's name, and she confided that it was Jo. It appears that Jo has a nasty reputation with the rest of staff. Perhaps placing Jo in a hospitality role is not the best fit for her strengths. I mentioned Jo's attitude to our server, Aaron, who politely shook his head indicating that she can be difficult to work with at times. Don't blame him. Aaron, a two-star server, was fantastic and deserves a promotion to a four-star server for putting up with such an unpleasant coworker. If the star system applies to hostesses as well, maybe management should consider a reassignment or a demotion of a star for Jo and place her out of contact with diners where she doesn't take away from what is supposed to be an enjoyable experience. The food was fine, with that home-cooked vibe, and my spouse loved the healthy option of Rainbow Trout and baked Sweet Potato, however, the overall experience was overshadowed by the cleanliness concerns and the hostess's attitude. We'll likely choose a different place for our next dinner out and NOT recommend Cracker Barrel as a charming place for others to dine in Altoona.

Waited from 2:53 until 3:20 for our server to appear

Although we waited much longer than usual for our server, once Q appeared our dining experience was much better than our usual time at any other Cracker Barrel! Warm, delicious food; good conversation with our server, Q; and quick service once our order was in.

My entrance to an utter waste of time.

Wow, has this place gone downhill. I guess the rumors are true. I used to be able to rely on a decent corporate standard for food here, nothing special but reliable comfort food. I guess the recent financial problems the chain has experienced are dragging the place down, though. I didn't have to wait long to get seated, and my waiter was quick with my drink, but I ordered a new menu item and I had to wait over 20 minutes for an overcooked mess. And the manager seriously wanted to argue with me about it! I asked to just go, since my meal arrived ruined, and she insisted I pay for the Coke I ordered with the meal. No offense, but the one star is the minimum, and I don't blame my poor waiter (my tip was as much as the 3 50 for a few sips of my Coke waiting for food). Ambience is typical Cracker Barrel, trying too hard to be old country with a very busy shopping area that has a few gems, but I was in no mood to stay after

The food is a bit more than great. I got the bee sting chicken, and my mom got the breakfast taco. The server we had was super nice, her name was Mary F, and she was so caring, and was checking up on us occasionally. And it's a Cracker Barrel, you know what it looks like on the inside

I love the Cracker Barrel! My waiter didn't listen very good but in his defense I'm a odd one haha. I have certain ways I eat things. The food was absolutely delicious. My only complaint is the broccoli was a little too hard, and soften the potatoes. Mine were so hard they were cold and not very good haha. But I definitely will be back cause all there food is yummy. My son was pretty disappointed to hear you got rid of catfish. He only goes here for the fish and Altoona was out of all the fishes so he settled for shrimp. But regardless my picky eating self will always come back.

Classic Strawberry Shortcake dolls! I had all of these when I was a kid! Awesome! :)

We chose to eat outside in their beautiful garden, which made for the perfect setting. I ordered the Hawaiian-style poke bowl, and it was absolutely delicious! The portion was very generous, with plenty of fresh ahi tuna. One of the highlights of our visit was meeting a brother and sister who were also traveling from out of town. We ended up sharing a table and great conversation, which made the experience even more memorable. The service was excellent. We asked our server for a recommendation, and he suggested the poke bowl--and I'm so glad he did! Everyone in our group loved their meal. If we're ever back in the area, we will definitely return. I highly recommend The Knickerbocker!

But we decided to not spend more time for finding something else and stepped in. It was very charming, surprisingly well kept,of course old,but in a good way. Menu was intriguing, modern and seasonal, which I value the most. Waiter was engaging in our menu exploration and was knowledgeable. Now to the food.. cauliflower appetizer made as General Tso was one other best cauliflower in my entire life. Lightly fried, not mushy, but with exact chicken like texture in divine sauce, kicking spicy with sweet undertones. In the same way not overpowering to forget about cauliflower itself. A+ for that dish!!! Pirogi was a little doughy on my opinion, but taste was good. Asian bowl with salmon had great flavor profile: cabbage salad was beautiful and freshly crisp, carrots were marinated perfectly with slight vinegary flavors, bok choy was unbelievably delicious. I asked for medium salmon, mine was almost well done, but taste was good and rice in the middle wasn't sticky and flavorful, but had watery texture and was bland. Overall, this is an amazing festival of flavors and technically challenging menu. Bravo!!!
