I've been to a few Cracker Barrels before, and have always found the food and service to be OK, the biggest challenge was waiting for a table. Today, we went there for a late brunch and there was no wait for a table, so we're off to a good start. The dining room was a bit noisier than it should be, but it is a large place, seats way over 100. The service was OK, friendly but not fast. I ordered the "Grandma's Sampler" breakfast. French toast, 2 eggs over easy, hash browns, and one each of bacon, sausage and ham. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the hash browns were very good, all three types of meat were tasty but maybe a bit overcooked, as it took a knife and not the side of my fork to cut them. The French toast was very good. All-in-all, a very good breakfast. My biggest complaint is the flatware seems very thin and cheap. read more

I thought about whether or not to write a review.Here it is. We(2) were at the Arden,NC location at about 1 pm yesterday. We were seated pretty quickly.We gave our order to Maya and I asked that she bring the biscuits first. They were brought out with our drinks.(the tea was wrong) Thre were no jams or jellies and the butter is almost always frozen. We had to find her to correct the tea order. And we had no utensils and had to ask for some. I was told that they were out of jellies after I asked abot them. Then came the wait. Maya kept us informed of the wait but with no reason. After about 45-50 minutes we received our food. My fried chicken was warm boy not hot.(thinking we were waiting on the frying time). Maya did not return to check on the food. After eating I had to go to the bathroom and I saw Maya leaving the restaurant. So we asked another waitress for a box and a check. On checkout we told the cashier about our experience.She offered us a comp of one of our entrees and was going to give us a couple of cards for free appetizers but was out. After making it through the worst of the mountains from Tennessee, I was ready to sleep for the night. I found a spot with the Sprinter van in the back, locked up, went into the store for the restroom and then I was done for the night. I did notice that there are a lot of people walking around in the evening - the low cost motel nearby may be related to that and so you will want to take extra care to lock up your vehicle. Other than a lot of pedestrians, it was a quiet night and I was undisturbed. In the morning, it's time for breakfast! Lots of coffee with eggs and biscuits and some gravy. Service was good but food is awful. Their biscuits were like hard, dry hockey pucks. Couldn't even cut one in half. The quantity of food now vs. a year ago is much smaller. We had the pleasure of having Theresa as our server. She was fast, efficient, and had a great sense of humor. We felt right at home. Terrible restaurant. You can't order anything you want. I drove 45 minutes away to get their wonderful pork chops. They tell me it is only available on Tuesdays, so I tried to order the fried chicken. I am told again it is only available on weekends. I never heard of a restaurant where you couldn't order anything you wanted. I have gone to this restaurant a numerous amount of times, but I spent my last dollar there that I'm ever going to spend. I certainly am not going to pay for a meal I hate, particular turkey. I hate turkey. The only good thing about this place was the waitress. Let's start out with the fact that we normally like Cracker Barrel, we were not in a hurry, and the food is normally fairly decent for the price. On Sunday, my wife's birthday - this was not the case. I want to make sure that we set the environment correctly - it was 3 PM and it was a not as very busy - maybe about 1/2 of the restaurant had patrons. 1. The hostess was ok, typical hostess - busy but polite. We were seated in a couple of minutes (there was no one else waiting to be seated). 2. Once at the table, we seemed to be dismissed. It took the waiter about 15 minutes to come to the table and ask us what we wanted to drink - when he did - his focus was elsewhere. It took about 10 minutes for our drinks to get to the table (Soda and Lemonade). 3. When we finally received our drinks, we placed our order - and the waiter seemed to be annoyed that we did not want the "Special" Chicken Pot Pie, I ordered the NY Strip and Eggs (Steak - medium, Eggs - over medium and the hashbrown casserole) my wife ordered the Grandma's Sampler Pancake Breakfast (Egg's - over medium, Sweet ham, hashbrown casserole, and blueberry pancakes). we also asked for the basket of biscuits and were told that only one order had biscuits - every other Cracker Barrel we have been to has either a basket of biscuits or roles that they bring to the table. The reason that I listed our orders will become clear in a little bit. The waiter's focus was still somewhere else, because he seemed very confused on what was in each of the meals. 4. After we placed our order, we seemed to disappear into the ether. We never got the biscuits, or did the waiter come back by our table. I noticed that he repeatedly went to the store side for long periods of time. 5. Our food finally arrives (45 minutes after it was ordered). The waiter, who was still not focused on us as customers, brought our food and a basket with 3 biscuits in it - note: my meal came with 2 biscuits). My wife's order was not correct - Eggs were scrambled, Salted Ham - that looked like the leather of a shoe, the bacon was partially cooked and soaked in grease, the sausage patty was comparable to a hockey puck and the only thing that was hot was the pancakes and the hashbrown casserole, my NY Strip steak had about a pound of garlic butter on it - it was also almost raw on one side while being well done on the other side (not sure how that happens, but I guess that you can call it medium). My wife asked for jelly for the biscuits - the waiter's response - "if I can find any". This is Cracker Barrel - jelly should not be hard to find. Anyway, the waiter just dropped off the food and walked away. 6. We ate the food, just for the mere fact that we were hungry and tired. The waiter stopped by when we were about halfway through eating to ask if we wanted our drinks refilled, we responded with a yes please - we finished what we could and I pushed my plate away - the waiter returned, asked if we wanted to go cups for our drinks (they were empty, he never brought the refills) and dropped the check on the table. I worked in the restaurant industry for years, this was a fail from the top down, The management should be paying attention to the staff - the kitchen should never let low quality food go out to the customer, the waiter needs to learn the menu or maybe look for a different career. I left no tip, and we will not be returning to the establishment again. I even had to write a review so that someone else doesn't have to experience this locations lack of professionalism. read more

waitress was absolutely amazing, but the sausage was undercooked, the eggs were also undercooked, our hasbrown casserole was overcooked and we were there for an hour and a half just to get biscuits and cornbread on the table, and after we got out biscuits and cornbread, it took another 30-45 minutes to get our actual food. we ordered 4 meals and only received 2, then 15 minutes later, we got our other two meals, we didnt even get the side of biscuits and gravy that we ordered. the manager was a complete and total jerk, she fussed at our waitress because it was quote on quote "her fault" but it was actually the chefs' fault. our waitress was extremely kind and she didnt deserve to get yelled at. read more

An average restaurant serving food that's adequate enough, if you're hungry enough. The complimentary biscuits are a nice touch. Service today was friendly but the kitchen was quite slow (in my estimation our food took at least 10-15 minutes too long to arrive). We waited 25 minutes to be seated, which is unthinkable IMO for this type of restaurant, but Nana and Papa wanted Cracker Barrel, so Cracker Barrel it was. At least they have fun products to peruse while you wait - their selection of otherwise hard-to-find sodas and candies is truly impressive. Over the years, they've always been barely adequate in terms of vegetarian selections, and sadly, that remains the same. Here's their corporate statement: "It should also be noted that all of our fried vegetables are fried in the same oil as our meat products. We want to make sure you know that some of our offerings, like turnip greens, green beans, corn muffins, hashbrown casserole, and pinto beans are made the old-fashioned way using meat seasonings and are not strictly vegetarian." While I appreciate the candor, I don't appreciate the stubborn refusal to better accommodate the increasingly common vegetarian diet. Sure, there are times when "old-fashioned" can be charming, but when it means "there's roadkill in most of our food," it's not charming. It's repulsive. But hey, Nana and Papa seemed to enjoy their meal, and that's what today was really about. read more

Heading home from Gatlinburg TN this was our stop for dinner. What's NOT to love about a Cracker Barrel ! We incurred a wait as we did visit during a busy time. We were told 45 minutes ( I was secretly happy 45 minutes of shopping in their store.) We actually only waited about 25 minutes. Which my husband said was plenty, it was enough for him to make two trip back to the truck to take items I had bought. He stated thank god they didn't have buggy's and reminded me just because something is on sale doesn't mean I need it. This place is absolutely Darlin plus you get to eat and we all know I'm always here for the food ! So once we were seated our Colton ( who by the way was also Darlin ) came immediately took our drink orders and made sure we didn't have any questions about the menus. I ordered hamburger steak with brown gravy and caramelized onions, greens, and sweet potato casserole . Ya'll I like to talk and honestly that was the quietest I had been the whole weekend that food EVERY last bite was so delicious! We normally love Cracker Barrel. This one has been known to be slow on occasion however, the food is typically good. Tonight was the exception. To set the stage properly - the restaurant was not busy. 1. The hostess was too busy with a coworker's baby to be bothered with us. 2. We were finally seated by different hostess, who could not have been more disinterested in her job. She walked us to the table, sat the menus down and walked away. 3. Our waitress then took several minutes to come to our table and also seemed bothered to have to wait on us. 4. She took our order and brought us our drinks. We did not see her again until our food arrived, which was slow. 5. My husband's pancakes were way way overcooked, verging on being burnt. My order was incorrect and looked like it had been sitting under the heating lamp for awhile. The biscuits were not the fluffy buttermilk biscuits I normally enjoy. There was no jelly for them. My husband finished eating before she ever came back to the table to check on us. At which time she was bringing us the check. I asked for some jelly. It took several minutes to get the jelly. And then I was only offered one jelly packet. 6. While we were finishing up our dinner, I ordered some dinner to take home to my son through the app. It said it would be ready at 7:17. It was not. At 7:31. We finally asked for it to be checked on. They went back to check and said that it was almost ready. They were just waiting on the ice tea. 10 minutes later we had to ask again for the order to be checked on. The hostess went back and checked, and it was ready. Clearly it had been sitting there. If it wasn't for the fact that I've had good experiences at Cracker Barrel in the past, this rating would definitely be a one star. read more

This is a run of the mill Cracker Barrel. We stopped in during our trip down to Georgia. We waited for about ten minutes and were sat. I was impressed at how efficiently they've executed social distancing with their tables. They really have done that well. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Our drinks stayed filled and she checked on us routinely. Our orders of pancakes, breakfast platters, etc came our very quickly. The typical line of oh the kitchen is backed up so your order will take awhile. Not from our server but a bus person. Having your sever or even see her in the restaurant in itself is a miracle. After sitting half hour waiting for food. We decided it was time go. Watching two other tables who one seated 10 minutes after us and another 15 get their food was enough. As we walked out our food finally showed up. CLEARLY under a heat lamp. My food would do been warmer from sitting on my cars hood than the food we got. Momma'a pancake breakfast is my standby when on the road. I still can't believe CB got rid of the cherries topping. Very slow; sat immediately Thursday 1030am. Waitress ambled by after 10 mins, then took another 10 to bring coffee. Pancakes came out without topping and had to go back. By the time they returned I was finished with the eggs and sausage.
