Sweet and spicy fried chicken sandwich and Avacodo melt
    Sharon M.

What a great place to stop after a long day at the nearby Biltmore Estate. We had the sweet and spicy chicken sandwich and the avacado melt. Both were generous sizes and the side of grits and rosemary potatoes were outstanding! Carly provided friendly excellent service! I highly recommend- you will find what you are craving with the varied and large menu choices.

I feel like this spot is very hit or miss. I've been here 3 times and here are the things I really like about it: - the ambiance is beautiful! Love the outdoor seating as well as the indoor. - service has always been speedy and the servers have been helpful - everytime I've had the chicken & waffles (I've tried the peaches one as well as the sweet and spicy) it's been phenomenal! That and the sweet potato pancake are amazing Here's the things I haven't loved: - hit or miss on food. Like I said, chicken & waffles are amazing but we've tried a few other menu items that have been dry & lacked flavor. I got the whiskey & onion smash burger last time and it was pretty dry. My husbands chicken sandwich wasn't great either, and my daughter barely touched her kids burger because it was so dry - we went in specifically for my grandmothers 78th birthday (which I wrote on the reservation notes) and I also let the manager know separately. No mention was made of a birthday, and when I asked for a bday dessert they dropped off a boxed up dessert at the table with again, no mention of a birthday. We were hoping to make her feel special and thought they would do a candle and maybe say happy birthday, so I felt bad about that experience.

From the start when you first walk in is a very inviting restaurant the staff is very friendly. I encourage everyone to get to know the restaurant that you're going to talk to him. Get to know the culture of the restaurant then, how it started and get to know your waitress and the weight staff so that they can give you the best recommendations. I rate the atmosphere and ambience...... 8 out of 10 Love the coffee it was strong, not weak as most restaurants serve weak coffee but not so strong you could stand up on its own. lol. Coffee rate 8 out of 10. My shrimp and grits served with a side of Texas toes. Was wonderful and a big critic when it comes to shrimp and grits. . The grits have to be cooked perfectly. The shrimp have to be cooked perfectly gravy. The sauce must be very good. I absolutely love the shrimp and grits and I would get it again . Rating. 9 out of 10... Ordered their Mississippi mud pie for dessert, is beautiful. Great taste well blended, not too sweet, love the graham cracker crust , Yummmm.... 8 out of 10. Also had a beer called Hi Wire Bed of nails.. it's a crisp, beer with a strong oak flavor, it is very smooth and tasty. As wonderful aromatics, I recommend this..... 8 out of 10 Now, for the most painful part of this review is the weight staff, and personnel first knowledge all parties great staff very friendly. Nobody seems to have attitude, which is wonderful to see a restaurant. Now for my waitress, I cannot say anything negative about, Danae. She is a breath of fresh air and if I owned a restaurant, I'd recruit her to come work for me. I don't say that about very many waitresses and waiters. She engagement conversation with me, talked yet she still kept up with her other guess. Great Job to her, Danae!!! 9 out of 10. These are my viewpoints because of the day I visited. He must try place. We also have a covered outdoor patio for dining as well.

Always Always a great brunch spot! The food is fresh and hot food served hot, cold served cold. Had coffee and it was served HOT- fresh that was nice. Make your own omelets were loaded. No skimping here. The bread was hot and not over toasted. The potatoes were seasoned and cooked well. Love love love the atmosphere. Looking around saw families with small children, elderly l, friends and couples holding hands. Definitely a great for anyone kind of restaurant. Will see you soon!!!!

Enjoyed a visit to TH with family. Anna was our server. She was pleasant, helpful and friendly. The smashburger, fish, Caesar salad with chicken were delicious and not a drop was left on the plate. Quiet indoor seating.

Excellent start to the day Bloody Mary and Great Breakfast - Our Server was Lovely Diamond, she was very good and attentive - located in the corner of a quiet, peaceful area. We set outside and enjoyed the nature - TNT Thumbs Up

Service and ambiance went well because I was seated immediately and only had to wait around 15 minutes. I got the Southern Chicken Bit, a grilled chicken sandwich on a GF bun with apple cider bacon, dijonnaise, lettuce and tomato with fries. The chicken was cooked through, the bun was well-warmed, the dijonnaise provided a nice vinegar kick, and the fries had a good crisp to them. Overall, this is the place to be for Southern comfort food.

The restaurant's atmosphere is inviting, with attentive staff and ample parking, making it a convenient choice for those seeking authentic Southern cuisine. Chicken is delicious. Overall, Tupelo Honey's South Asheville location is a must-visit for anyone craving Southern comfort food, I've had the steak and eggs as well as an omelette. Wonderful flavors and presentation.

Love the food!! I highly recommend and I will be sure to make a stop the next time I'm in town! The food was flavorful and just good overall! We went for brunch. Cool spot for a casual date! No pressure, relaxed atmosphere. The server was knowledgeable and spot-on with his recommendations. I didn't get his name but he was a bubbly guy with locs

We got in for a quick lunch, hostess was sweet. Waiter was nice. Atmosphere was perfect. Like a little country house. The patio was beautiful. Menu is a good size. Fiancé and one kid had chicken tenders and the chicken was slightly spicy. Mac and cheese is a cheesy mac and cheese. Not a baked one. Not a bad thing but not my style. One child had a burger and had no complaints. I tried a cold brew, nothing special. It was good. I also had the sweet spicy chicken and waffles. They were good but the whole meal was around $65-70 dollars. Personal not worth the hype.

Do they serve breakfast all day?

    I believe so

    Well trained puppy friendly?

As far as I know, dogs are allowed in the outdoor seating area. I've seen them there on many occasions. I've never seen them inside the restaurant.

Is the patio heated when it is cold out?

On a recent visit to Tupelo Honey South Asheville, on an inclement day, the outdoor patio was closed.

    Is it Dog friendly?

I saw 2 dogs out on patio with other diners. So I assume yes !!!

I found Chestnut on Yelp and decided to wander in. The space has this elevated modern rustic vibe with a southern twist and a little bit of sass. They even sell shirts that say neither hoity nor toity, which cracked me up. Honestly, the atmosphere was great, but our waitress was the real star. She was absolutely phenomenal and looked after us perfectly. My palate was pretty fried, so I started with a Bloody Mary to wake up. Truth be told, it was just okay. The house mix had an odd flavor that nobody at the table could quite identify, and it seriously lacked spice. It was just kinda bland. I noticed a bottle of Firewalker hot sauce on the table, and splashing that in helped a little bit. After that, I transitioned to a mimosa. You really cannot mess up a mimosa too much, and it was a solid, reliable second drink. For the main event, I ordered the southern chicken and waffles. This came with a fried chicken breast sitting on golden malted waffles, smothered in sausage gravy, and drizzled with chipotle honey. It was a really great dish. The kitchen did a solid job with the fry on the chicken, and the gravy had a nice flavor. It leaned a little on the sweet side because of the honey, but it was not totally overdone. The real sleeper hit of the morning, though, was the side of cheesy grits. Those grits were absolute heaven. They were incredibly creamy and perfectly seasoned. If you go, you have to order them. Chestnut is in a great location, and despite the weak Bloody Mary, it was a stellar visit.

Worth Planning Your Asheville Trip Around…read more As a Bay Area foodie, navigating around San Francisco's incredible restaurant scene taught me to appreciate thoughtful cooking, quality ingredients, and genuine hospitality. Chestnut had been on my Asheville dining list long before I arrived, and after spending several days exploring Boone, Blowing Rock, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, I made it my dinner splurge before heading home. It absolutely delivered. A quick tip: skip the hunt for street parking and head straight to the garage across the street. The first hour is free, and downtown Asheville can be congested with both vehicle and foot traffic. I arrived around 5:30 without a reservation and was warmly greeted by the hostess, who offered me a table or a seat at the bar. Asheville was surprisingly hot and humid compared to the cool mountain weather I'd been enjoying, so the air-conditioned dining room was an easy choice over the sidewalk patio. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Fresh flowers, warm lighting, elegant stone countertops, comfortable booths, tables, and bar seating create an atmosphere that feels polished without being stuffy. What stood out most was the mix of guests. There were locals greeting staff by name, couples enjoying date night, families with children, and older guests gathering with friends. It felt welcoming and comfortable for everyone. As a solo diner, the bar was the perfect choice. I enjoyed all the energy of the restaurant while still having a peaceful dining experience. I started with a glass of Brut Rosé from Spain. Crisp, refreshing, and beautifully balanced, it was the perfect way to settle in after a warm afternoon. Then came the Lobster Bisque. As someone who has made lobster bisque from scratch, I know the work that goes into creating a great one. Chestnut's version, made with Oak & Grist Reserve Cream and finished with fresh chives, was outstanding. Rich, silky, velvety, and loaded with tender pieces of lobster. If I'm being incredibly picky, I would have enjoyed just a touch more sherry, but that's purely personal preference. The smaller serving vessel kept the bisque hot from first spoonful to last, which I appreciated. My only complaint was that I wanted a larger serving because it was that good. For my entrée, I ordered the 4-ounce Petite Filet. The steak arrived cooked a perfect medium rare with excellent flavor and texture. It was served with butter-whipped mashed potatoes, haricot verts, a crisp potato gaufrette, red wine demi-glace, and chive butter. Every component was thoughtfully prepared. The demi-glace added richness without overwhelming the beef, while the potato gaufrette provided a delicate crunch. My only minor critique was that the plate could have been served a bit hotter, but the quality of the food more than made up for it. One of the highlights of the evening was the service. Taylor, part of the management team, was personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. After my sparkling wine, he suggested a half-glass pour of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir since I was driving. Excellent recommendation. The wine was elegant, earthy, and beautifully balanced, pairing perfectly with the filet. As the evening progressed, the restaurant filled quickly. Watching the staff greet regulars by name and efficiently manage the growing crowd spoke volumes about how well-run the restaurant is. You could tell many guests were repeat customers, which is always a good sign. After dinner, I attempted to walk off my meal through downtown Asheville, but the summer heat quickly convinced me to head back to my hotel. I left full, happy, and already thinking about that lobster bisque. For a Bay Area foodie who plans entire trips around memorable meals, Chestnut exceeded expectations. Great food, thoughtful service, an inviting atmosphere, and a dining experience that felt special without trying too hard. If you're visiting Asheville, put Chestnut on your list. Life is too short for mediocre meals, and this one is worth making time for.
