Great little store but coming here in a Monday afternoon in Coventry RI the restaurant was slow- men's bathroom was atrocious so we told the hostess (who was wonderful). Was sat and table was less than clean. Floors were absolutely disgusting with food. We have been here many times in the past and never a problem. It was not busy at all so why would this ever be? Nod the the manager? Seriously with an Applebees across the street why deter people from eating there? Hope this changes or we won't be the first to walk out. read more

Stopped in for breakfast mid-afternoon in October. It was cool enough outside for a light jacket, but this restaurant had the AC on. We moved to another table to get away from the cold air, but it really didn't make a difference. The food - eggs and french toast were overcooked, hash browns were mushy, ham was dry. We gave this location another try. Our daughter loves it and food is very tasty. They are still having slow service issues, but maybe we just caught them at an off moment. (Also fair to mention service is lacking at almost all restaurants these days) I added stars back to this review because the food is so reasonably priced and tastes great for what you are paying. The un-bussed surrounding tables issue still stands, but our server was very sweet to our little girl. I'm not going to spend $100 of dollars for Le Creuset cookware when I can get the Cast Iron cookware at Cracker Barrel. I know what your saying, oh, cast iron cookware rusts! Yes and so will your car if you don't take care of it. Did you know 100 years ago, women would get their intake of iron from their cookware? There are health benefits from eating my foods! Trust Billy Salts. I'm on a fresh baked bread kick. I bought a very nice loaf pan as well as a Cast Iron Muffin/Cake tin as well as a hand cream for my wife called, Love. It's her favorite and I make sure she's stocked up. She also likes their brand of coffee. Whenever Mrs. Bill wants coffee, I make sure its something she enjoys. I discovered something that is also mind numbing. They sell a Cracker Barrel sweet tea, two for $3. It's sweet tea thats done right. Very disappointing lastnight. We are regulars whom eat here weekly. As we entered the restaurant it was not busy at all and when the hostess sat us at our table the first thing we noticed was there were 5 tables never cleared and the floor was filthy with scraps of food and napkins. We waited about 10 minutes until our server Adam came to our table and asked for our drink order. I had sweet tea and my wife asked for tea and a water. Another 10 or more minutes went by and Adam brought our drinks minus the water due to not having any cups available. He stated that he will bring out the water when there are cups available. Then he walked away without taking our order. We waited for another 10 or so minutes when he came back with no water and asked if we were ready to order. He did apologize for the wait. My wife ordered just 2 eggs and bacon with multi grain toast. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with 3 sides and asked for cornbread and biscuits. He said thank you and then stated that he hopes that the meals come out in a timely manner. (Huh, a timely manner?) We waited and then the water finally showed up and then as we are waiting the floor and tables around us still haven't been cleaned and other people have finished and left and those tables haven't been cleared either. I kept seeing whom appeared to be a manager walking out of the kitchen and he just stands there looking around the restaurant then goes back in the kitchen area. There were also 2 hostesses at the entrance podium just standing there. I just don't understand why the manager and one of the hostesses couldn't jump in and help by cleaning up. Makes no sense to me at all. I'm in management and jump in and help at any given moment if needed. We finally get our meals and I noticed that we didn't get our biscuits so I asked. Adam said that they were out at the moment. And he will bring them when available. (Here we go again). As we are eating I have a perfect view of the doorway into the kitchen and I can see where the oven is for the biscuits. I see other waitresses taking biscuits off the tray and heading out to the dining area. I'm still waiting for the biscuits but Adam is no where to be seen then I noticed him and I tried to wave him over but he went to anther table. At this point we are almost done with our meals and I took the biscuits as a loss. In the meantime the possible manager comes back out looking around then disappears. Adam came and gave us our check. Never asked if we needed anything else then leaves. We proceeded to get up and head to the front to pay our bill. As we were leaving I counted 9 tables that never were cleared and floor never got cleaned. While we were paying. The cashier asked how everything was? Instead if answering the question I responded, saying. Lack of help tonight? She responded. Always. It's like that everywhere. No. It's not like this everywhere. She never asked if their was any issues. So. We will be giving Cracker Barrel a break for a while. From all of the observations I noticed. Management is the problem. CONFESSIONS FROM A CRACKER BARREL VIRGIN For most of my life, the words "Cracker Barrel" were associated with reasonably-priced but delicious cheese. Growing up, I didn't even know there was a restaurant/country store with the same name. Apparently it's big in the South, but as a Northeasterner, it was news to me. I had never even seen one with my own two eyes until I saw the one by the Wrenthem Outlets. Its existence in the state of RI was a mystery until about a week ago. Apparently, I live a sheltered life. A couple of colleagues invited me to a casual dinner with them one night after work at this local Cracker Barrel. Having heard some very mixed reviews over the years, I wasn't sure what to expect. I assumed the food would be mediocre, but outside of that, I really had no idea what I was getting myself into. The actual store was really neat! There are lots of fun and quirky items for sale. I loved a lot of the interesting home decor signs and such. I didn't even know there was a store involved in the whole Cracker Barrel universe. I just thought it was a Southern style restaurant, so this was actually a nice surprise. The restaurant itself definitely exudes that country feel. The fireplace was roaring--an excellent touch on a chilly night. The laid back vibe translates right into the simplistic but comfort-food-centric menu. They serve breakfast all day, but I decided to go with the Chicken Fried Chicken. It's a standard breaded chicken cutlet that is deep fried and then topped with a cream gravy. Although it was perhaps a tad on the salty side, and maybe even a little dry, it was pretty decent. It hit that deep-fried chicken craving I had at the moment. The mashed potatoes (I had these topped with their brown gravy) were good. I also tried the mac and cheese which was satisfying, although definitely not the best I've ever had. It met my expectations but didn't surpass them in any way. The cheesy grits were a disappointment. I've had cheese grits before with the cheese mixed right in. These grits were not really seasoned at all (I'm not a Southerner, and maybe that's just the way, but I'd love some seasoning please!) and the cold shredded cheese was just sitting on top. I'd pass on these in the future. My entree was served with both a biscuit and a corn muffin. Both were mediocre, but still did a fine job complementing the rest of the meal. Service was slow but friendly. I waitress was very nice but she disappeared for a while and my thirst was under-quenched until she finally reappeared and provided more water. I'd say for my first (and possibly last) Cracker Barrel experience that it was pretty much what I expected. American Kitsch insanity! I have to be in the mood for this place to go here. It's not an everyday thing, but super fun for comfort food. We especially like it with the kids when we travel. The store is half the fun! Everyone loves it and there is always something cool & interesting for each of us! Kudos to the buyers who have to pick for all ages all types of folks. Our 10 year old loves the old fashioned toys & candy, our 15 year old loves playing oversized checkers in the patio rocking chairs. When I picked up the oder I immediately noticed how the description online was a false advertisement. First time at Cracker Barrel and I liked the general store entrance and cabin decor feels than the food. The fire place was very cool. My fellow diner and I ordered the maple jam burger and chicken fried steak. The complimentary biscuits and cornbread were a great carby addition. Breaking it down the burger was tasty and sweet. The chicken fried steak was a ground beef patty battered and deep fried. It wasn't very good. If you get mashed potatoes I recommend the brown gravy over the white gravy. The tops of the biscuits are much tastier than the tough bottom halves. While the corn bread muffins were strangely very crispy and dry. Food wise I'd equate it with Gregg's. Decor wise and entertainment via the general store are certainly unbeatable. Plenty of parking. Great service for being the only diners at 9PM on a Saturday night. This was likely the usual CB b.s. that nobody wants to get stuck with the one-top because the tip won't be as big as a four-top. What this server assured herself with her attitude is that the tip would be zero. I have always been a fan of cracker barrel, and have given them great business for years. Recently I was given an e-gift certificate (purchased on Amazon.com) for $40. The person who gave it to me knows I eat/shop there often and I have received and used the EXACT form of e-gift card at that location many times. Friday (3/24/17) I placed a take out order and shopped while the food was being made. I brought up my Josh Turner CD,Yankee candle air freshener and a pack of mints to the register. The lady rings me up and I hand her my gift certificate like I've done countless times in the past. She instantly gives me attitude and tells me she doesn't think it will work. I'm confused at this point because this has never happened to me. She's hardly scanning it and is telling me it won't scan you can't use this. I kindly (like always)tell her just type in the code its the same thing. She refuses and says they can't do that either. Now I'm getting pissed because there is no reason in hell your not accepting my certificate. I asked to speak with a manager and even have the receipt to the gift card. He comes out and I explain every thing and he was just as dumb and rude as the sour old lady. No one is giving me an intelligent reason why this is an issue I literally felt like I was in the twilight zone. They're embarrassing me in front of all these people like I have a fake gift card...DO YOU NOT SEE ME I'M legit hello. I was frustrated with this they tell me to "take it back to who gave it to me" or call corporate. Wow. Do they not realize they made fools out of themselves. To top it off you can't even use their own gift card on their own website. That's unheard of. I now have a useless $40 gift card in my handbag. Today I was working just down the road from this one in Coventry, RI so I thought I should hit it up for lunch and fulfill my craving. Boy was I wrong!!! We entered the restaurant and made our way to the dining area. As soon as we got to the threshold we were Greeted by a lovely lady and brought to our seats. After about 10 minutes we were finally greeted by our server, Regina. Upon Regina's introduction she had asked what we wanted to drink....We asked if we could just order our entire meal...Regina huffed and rolled her eyes as if it was a burden to not have her keep coming back and forth to our table. She snipped back with "That's Fine" and we ordered. I asked about the special Turkey and Dressing which she stated many people order it and like it. I elected to try it while my friend ordered the trout. Regina had taken the order and left the table to return a few minutes after with our horrible watermelon lemonades. I want to also say the restaurant had only 6 tables sat with three servers on and we were her only table at the time. Food arrives and what a disappointment. My Turkey and Dressings was basically all precooked items that were warmed in a microwave....BUT, Mine was still cold...I'm seriously saying cold as the white gravy on top of the Turkey still had the lumps gravy gets in your refrigerator after thanksgiving time. The stuffing looked as if it was chiseled out of a 6x6 pan. It was HORRIBLE. My friend had the trout which was cooked but merely warm. Regina, our server never checked upon us throughout the meal. The hashbrown cassarole was too hard to chew. It usually is creamy and soft. The haddock had no seasoning whatsoever. The sweet baby carrots were mushy when you bite into them. You get mostly water. They should have a snap to them. They were over boiled. It was nasty! I left most behind. The coffee was good and the biscuts before the meal. My meal was terrible. Good food and service, although the tacky decor and store. Excellent comfort food option. Service was fine, i came late on a Sunday night so it wasn't that busy. I wasn't that hungry, so I got the vegetable plate, where you can choose a few side dishes as your meal. I got mac & cheese, baked potato, and the brussels sprout/kale salad. I have to say I was iffy on the kale salad, but it turned out to be very good, it has a maple vinaigrette dressing that is sweet and not too sour. The baked potato was a little disappointing, since it seems it was cooked way earlier and just sitting in some type of warmer since the outer layer of it was very dry. I would recommend this restaurant. I have had several meals there, and everything was very good. I enjoy the Sunday butter milk fried chicken, it is severed every day. I would of gave it a 5 star review, but the only thing I can complain about is the person that seats you is awful at her job. My wife and I normally enjoy eating at Cracker Barrel's around the south, we have enjoyed the one in Rhode Island too. That is until Tuesday March 3rd. We eat at this location at least weekly but not after our last experience. We ordered the homestyle chicken. It was appx 7:30 pm. The homestyle chicken tasted like it had been under a heat lamp for at 1-2 hours. It was terrible. They had run out of "turnip greens for the day" and they stopped offering one of their healthy menu options the "kale and Brussel sprout" salad. I also started with Chili, which is normally good, and it was watered down bean soup. The corn muffins were undercooked and light colored- not the golden brown that other Cracker Barrels have. If this type of shitty food is served again- we are done with this place. The only good food was the Lima beans and tea. I can't remember the last time I ate at a Cracker Barrel. Maybe back in 2011. I wish we had some closer to my area as I love their home made food. On a trip to Mystic for a girls weekend with my mother, we stopped here on the way in and the way out. The shop totally got us as we waited to be seated. I got moon pies, a Bruins fleece and fox socks. All things I totally needed. It's a lot of fun to roam around the store but always so packed that sometimes you can't even get near displays. For example, I couldn't get to one area our first visit and then was somewhat overjoyed to get over there the second visit where I snagged my fox socks. The food is wonderful. Tastes homemade and the portions are huge while the price is low. I'm a creature of habit and remembered that the last visit I got chicken dumplings and loved it so I went with that again. I was not disappointed either time. I love their dumplings. I even bought a package this visit to try to emulate their recipe. Yeah, I know it won't come close but I'll try. Tons of food. I even tried their cherry soda. Very yummy. My mother went with their parmesan chicken pot pie item the first visit. She enjoyed it but went with the chicken livers on the second visit. She didn't realize they were fried so that threw her off a bit. I'm not a liver fan but I did like whatever they were fried in. After reading the negative reviews, I still opted to visit this location. The hostess was very nice and friendly, the wait staff was very nice and friendly and very attentive. The checkout cashier was very nice and friendly. I was very impressed with the overall cleanliness of the restaurant and the food was oh so delicious. Everything tasted fresh and was served hot. Don't let the negativity lead you away from this restaurant. I had a very pleasant experience today. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting some southern food! read more

.Cracker Barrel is one of my favorite stops on any road trip. Stopped at this CB many times over the last few years, and planned an overnight trip with a stopover in Coventry (Hampton Inn), so we could dine here. We were seated quickly and our waitress was pleasant. I had the Chicken fried chicken and it was tasty. The sides (mashed potatoes and carrots) were delicious. My friend had the pot roast which she said was very good. We returned the next morning for breakfast. Service was adequate, our server seemed slammed. She did however have another server bring out our meals so they would not get cold. Breakfast at the CB is always delicious and this place lived up to its reputation! read more
