Went last night for a late dinner. I ordered breakfast and my husband ordered the Thursday special of Thanksgiving Turkey and dressing. My little one ordered Mac and cheese and dumplings. I ordered eggs over medium and crispy bacon. My eggs were cooked over medium but were lukewarm and still had some white not thoroughly cooked. My bacon was far from crispy. I usually love hash brown casserole and last nights was unappetizing and lukewarm. My husbands food was barely warm, except for the sweet potato casserole. They were out of lemons too. So none for our water or tea. I was disappointed enough that I probably wasn't be back, except for maybe coffee and dessert. Early yesterday morning, I decided to take my family for a early morning breakfast. We went to Cracker Barrel and it was packed for about 30 minutes we waited but the food was delicious. Me and my wife both ate the fried fish, with Mac & Cheese and she had fried okra. The food was cooked to perfection, with a good fluffy batter for the fish. My wife and I have not been to Cracker Barrel in a while because of our disappointment with their food and lack of same. With much hesitation we took our grandchildren yesterday for lunch because that's where they asked to go. They were not crowded as it was midafternoon but it took a good 10-15 minutes for our waiter to come to the table. We both ordered the fried chicken salad and our grandchildren one had a hamburger the other pancakes. When our salads came out one had the chicken strips the other a chicken breast. He asked which of us would like the strips as he explained they ran out of strips, really? Why not come out and tell us the problem and let us decide if we were ok with the substitution or would like something different? The salad was a huge pile of iceberg lettuce, four cherry tomatoes, two whole boiled eggs, and four slices of cucumber. There was no cheese nor croutons. I asked about the cheese and he said it didn't come with cheese, I replied yes it does. He went back to the kitchen and brought out the cheese. I also had to ask for syrup for the pancakes. Have you ever tried to cut up a chicken breast and whole eggs on top of a salad? As we left I wanted to make sure I was right about the salad so I asked to see the menu. The Cracker Barrel is a great place to bring the family, rowdy small children and large groups for a little amusement at the table while enjoying some classic home cooking. There's a gift shop in front that keeps you occupied while you wait for your table, rocking chairs and fabric checkerboards for the family (also for sale) and plenty of candy and gift items to peruse and pick up as future tchockes for the mantle one day. Cracker Barrel is a weekend tradition for the family and I'm tickled I live less than 20 miles from now nowadays. Seeing the sign on the highway during long road trips was the only highlight of driving through Kansas and Oklahoma during the summer and the food is consistently tasty, cheesy, and butter. I bring my 6 month-old nephew with us and thankfully, the noise he makes just blends right into the crowd so I never feel awkward when the little guy is making gleeful nom nom sounds during breakfast. And the staff is always happy to see a little baby so he gets entertained pretty often while I scarf my Uncle Hershel's down as well. I'm a big fan of their hashbrown casserole, chicken fried steak and biscuits with gravy. I swear I have to log on another 2 miles of walking to shake off the food coma sensation, but the food is worth it. We waited an hour for a table. I saw that they were running about half capacity.. Several of the tables were left unbussed.. 6, 7, and 8 minutes after they left. . While we placed our order we notice several tables were complaining about the long wait for their food.. Several over an hour.. They stated that normal ticket times are 30 minutes.. Pretty standard Cracker Barrel. I will say that they do have some good fried chicken that apparently is only served on Sundays. The restaurant is clean and well kept. Service is average. My wife and I went here around 1045 hours on June 5th, 2018, and both ordered the campfire chicken dinners that we remembered from last year as being sooooo good. Boy were we in for a disappointment. The ones last year had a roasted smoked chicken half, grilled corn on the cob and vegetables presented in an aluminum foil pouch. Probably the worst Crack Barrel experience we have had. Service was slow even though they were empty (we arrived at 720pm). We were served biscuits on napkins because they were "out of plates," they brought us random silverware which didn't include enough forks for our family of 5, and the food took 55mins to come out. I'm not sure if my grilled chicken was on a dirty plate or what the deal was but the presentation was terrible! So is it just me, or is this place the crack of all foods! I found this place on thanksgiving day about 5 years ago with my family and have put on about 5 pounds spence I've first eaten there! The food is seriously addicting! The chicken and dumplings are amazing as well as the meatloaf. All of the servers here are very friendly and I've never had a mistake on my order. The management is always super friendly as well. I've always loved coming in and checking out the store. They offer all kinds of very unique items. Old fashion sodas and all day suckers are awesome! If you come around 8am you can enjoy a good breakfast. The biscuits are a must. And always play the I.Q. test game. Every Cracker Barrel has a country store where you can buy trinkets and such; there's some pretty cool stuff in there, though a bit expensive. Well i was never a big fan of Cracker Barrel. They just didn't have me at hello, please as a Closter phobic hoarder, the store entry is both overwhelming and exciting...lots of things to touch. I have decent service at this location. I have been going on Friday's religiously for about two months so i figured it was high time that i falutin get a review in. We mainly go on Fridays for the Friday Fish Fry. Now, since I have been practicing on how to get the order in just right so i have the right fish in front of me to eat has been an eight (8) week practice session (like a food college course). So, the Cod is what I usually order, fried extra crispy with tons of lemon on the side. YUP! It comes out hot and crunchy like i like it. The only draw back is that so many other people want the fish too, some servers have a hard time keeping up with and making sure you get your order in time. I promise you one time my guest and I waited an HOUR for our food. It is a good place to eat...just make sure you have enough time if you are on a lunch hour or a timed meeting. read more
