Check in for dinner at Cracker Barrel.
    Michele S.

We like this venue when only comfort food will do. But unfortunately, that is not the case anymore. The past two visits were met with unfriendly hostesses at the front desk. I cannot even guess why management wanted customers to be greeted by young men with chewing toothpicks while looking at the seating chart and young ladies who wouldn't smile even though they could. They must think that the general public does not deserve to be greeted kindly any more. While we were seated at a four top as requested and our servers were lovely and efficient, dining choices were limited to what was left in the kitchen because the specials on the menu were exhausted for the day. Meaning, they ran out of the food we had come in to eat on the past two visits at this Cracker Barrel location. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This week it was the ribs which were the Saturday special. When we ordered something else, that was gone but the kitchen could provide it is we wanted to wait close to an hour[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. The staff's response was, "we were just slammed today". The general atmosphere was subdued this evening. We were not having a good time. I personally was not going to risk asking for desert. What sounds like a rant is really a warning about how long this restaurant will last at this location under the current management.

Traveling from the west coast, needed a comfort meal, never been so... why not? [[HIGHLIGHT]]Got the veggie plate and a $5 add on meal to go.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall pretty good, never tried a few things before in my 47 years, they didn't disappoint[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] but [[HIGHLIGHT]]the best part was a piece of okra shaped as a heart....weee![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Cracker Barrel Old Country Kitchen on Belair Road in Augusta,GA outside Gate 1 Fort Eisenhower. Food: we ordered the mama's breakfast (with spicy chicken sausage) and grandpa breakfast. Everything was delicious, I would only ask that everything came out hot other than that our meals were on point. Service: service was great, didn't have to wait although there was a pretty decent crowd for a Wednesday. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. Ambiance: Old country kitchen is the point, the old fashion vibe and country store is reminiscent of a time past but really cool. The Peach Mimosas are really good!

Once again Cracker Barrel in Evans fails to satisfy and the couldn't care less. Why do I keep trying them? [[HIGHLIGHT]]The food is great, it's the service that disappoints.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Once or twice a year I go hoping for a better experience and every time I'm reminded not to go back ever again. When will I learn? On this occasion I sat with a party of five and our waitress was the most inattentive person. She brought our drinks and announced to my sister-in-law that they were out of Diet Coke. She order a different diet drink and we asked for a kids menu. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were told they didn't have any and that the main menu had the kids menu in it. We searched and searched but could not find kids options in the man menu.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Since she didn't come back for some time, I asked the hostess and she had the manager photocopy the kids menu for us. When the waitress did come back she took our order and brought the replacement drink. We asked for a basket of biscuits to hold us over while the food was being made since the waitress told us directly that it may take a while. I thought that was off but everywhere is short staffed these days, and I don't usually have good service here so I wasn't surprised. After a long while she was passing through to take orders at another table and we asked about the biscuits. She said she forgot, but gave no apology. Then she didn't go to the kitchen to get some, instead went to two other tables to service them. When the food finally came out we asked again for biscuits and she said oh yeah, I'll get those any thing else? So we asked for napkins as they had never been set at the table and refills on our drinks that had sat so long the ice was gone. She returned with the biscuits and napkins after a while and then we never saw her again until we asked the hostess for Togo boxes and the check. Just another reason I won't go back this year. Maybe next year they will have different management and staff, but I doubt it.

Had a great morning stopping at the allocations Cracker Barrel this establishment is well organized with getting customers in to dine. If you arrive early enough the adverse wait time to be seated is 10-15 minutes. They are enforcing social distancing with all their customers. There is even outdoor dinning if you prefer. The staff immediately sends your server to the table for drink orders, they are a friendly bunch that are all smiles under those masks. Our order came out fast hot and delicious, compliments to the cooks (aka chefs). Your bacon N' Egg Casserole dish was my favorite by far. I've dined at a few Cracker Barrel's in my day. I gave you five stars because your establishment hit all five points. Cleanliness, friendly, fast service, excellent food, speedy check out. No complaints here So if you happen to be in Evens, GA come on by for a little conversation and delicious food.

The valet folks were friendly, everybody smiled, and for a moment I thought we might have stumbled onto one of those places where Southern hospitality still gets practiced instead of just printed on brochures. The inn itself has that old-school charm. The front porch alone looks like it has stories to tell, and most of them are probably better than the ones you'll hear at the average chain hotel breakfast buffet. The room was nice enough, though getting to it felt a little like a low-impact obstacle course. After stepping off the elevator, there were three steps to negotiate before reaching the room. No big deal. I shuffled the luggage and carried on. Then I discovered the room itself was split-level, complete with three more steps. That arrangement seemed perfectly reasonable until the 3 a.m. trip to the bathroom, when those same steps suddenly became an adventure sport. One suggestion: every room ought to have a proper nightstand and a place to charge the electronic gadgets that have become attached to modern Americans like an extra limb. We may not all travel with a typewriter anymore, but most of us carry enough electronics to launch a small satellite. Things got a little more interesting when hunger arrived. We tried to make restaurant reservations through the Resy link on the hotel's website. No luck. The restaurant wasn't listed. Fine. Technology fails. It happens. So I called the restaurant. No answer. Turns out the restaurant number appears to be the same as the front desk. I left a message and waited about 45 minutes for a callback. Never got one. Again, no big deal. DoorDash and an Indian restaurant came to the rescue. While pondering the mystery of the missing callback, I found myself staring out the window. That's when I noticed the paint splatters and streaks all over the glass. Now, I don't know who handles maintenance around there, but somebody needs to explain that painting a window and cleaning a window are two entirely different activities. And that's really the story of the Partridge Inn. Nice people. Pleasant room. Plenty of charm. But charm can only carry you so far when attention to detail keeps missing the bus. The little things matter because they add up. The unanswered phone, the broken reservation link, the paint on the windows, the awkward room layout--they're all small by themselves. Together, they're enough to make me appreciate the stay but probably not enough to make me come back for another one.

I'll tell you what made me unhappy. We were there on a 95 degree day. When we were seated our waitress brought us a carafe of water and 2 glasses. Room temperature water and no ice. I asked for ice and she brought us a cup of ice. Not really enough for 2 people and it melted down as soon as I poured water over it. I figured that the only way I would get ice was to order a drink, so I ordered ice tea. That usually comes with ice. Right?? Well our waitress said that she had to brew me a fresh cup of tea which when you pour that over ice the ice melts away and again I had a glass of room temperature tea. I couldn't get a cold drink here to save my life. And did I mention that it was 95 degrees out? My wife ordered a Rubin sandwich, not realizing that it was a spicy sandwich. One bite and she was done. She doesn't like spicy food so I traded her for my simple bacon egg sandwich on a bagel and I had her spicy Rubin. And it was spicy! They had a mustard that must've been made with jalapeño and if you like heat, you will like this. Plenty of parking. Full bar. Clean restroom. Very average.
