The food was good, service was great, and the staff were friendly. But I'm prejudiced because I work there.

Cracker Barrel is a classic example of home cooked southern fare. I had the Pot Roast with onions and carrots, and mashed potatoes on the side. It is a hearty, delicious, plentiful, portion of beef, slow cooked, with carrots and onions. While you are there, don't forget their carryout meals for $5.00; featuring meatloaf and mac and cheese, or fried chicken with mac and cheese (they also have one other option which I can't remember off hand). One of the better Cracker Barrels for overnight parking. Yes, Cracker Barrel tolerates RVers using their parking lot for overnight and it's free with the kind request that if you could perhaps make a purchase, it would be appreciated. Tonight, it was the grilled catfish with a side salad and steamed broccoli. Cooked perfectly, served friendly and a completely delicious meal. The store is clean and tidy, well stocked with all the orange "Tennessee Volunteers" gear you could need if you're headed to a game. The parking area wasn't quite level but two leveling blocks solved that. And it was certainly quiet being this far away from the highway. I departed before 5am so no breakfast today! Very clean store with a huge variety of merchandise at affordable prices. I had questions about some of the items I was thinking about buying and Tom was who helped me with making the decision to buy or not. Tom is definitely on his game about the merchandise in the store. We had a great general conversation about what I was looking for and he was able to get me out the door at a lot less than I had expected He has been with Cracker Barrel for 10 years and is a shift leader. So we were a little late to order from the early dinner choices but the server said she would try. Wife and I both selected choices from there and picked the garden salad as one of our sides. The server brought the salads for us to start then said she was going to go put our order in. After a few minutes, she came back and said we would have to choose from the regular menu. I ordered the roast beef. My wife decided to share my order since all the other chicken dinners would be too much food. Server left to put our order in. 5 minutes later came to tell us they just sold the last of the pot roast. It was 7pm on a Wednesday evening. She then asked us to select a third option. I asked her to bring the bill and we would call it a day. 1, If she hadn't brought the salads before entering our order, I would have selected breakfast. But who wants fried eggs on lettuce. 2. She should have put our order in right away then the pot roast would be in my tummy right now. 3. The cook should have started another batch or pot roast when they started to get low. Not after they were out. 4. The manager should have offered to make it right ie comp the salad or something. When I went to pay the bill the manager had come to help cashier. That was great but he sent the regular cashier on some errand when he had a line of 4 customers. Let's just say my seven year old grandson could cashier faster the he did. I know this maybe expecting a lot from a restaurant, half full, mid week, out in the boonies. My daughter and my wife have both worked at Cracker Barrel. I have spent hours eating there and waiting for end of shifts. I have never seen it this bad. read more

Food is fresh and well made every time I've been here. Even the side items are excellent. Lemon pepper trout is my fav. Better than most seafood restaurants! My family and I stopped into the Cracker Barrel on May 21st. We arrived at 9:15 PM and the restaurant closes at 10 PM. We were a party of five. This was store # CB0006 in Harriman, TN. This visit was less than inspiring than were other instances with visits to other Cracker Barrel restaurants. I'm giving this dining experience only three stars for the following reasons, all having to do with food quality. The wait staff was friendly, attentive and efficient. I ordered a country fried steak, fried okra and a tossed salad. The fried okra was only warm and not fresh from the fryer like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for an extended time. The lettuce for my salad was not cold and crisp but rather limp like it too had been sitting for some time. The country fried steak had a strong greasy flavor which I found undesirable. Others in my party reported that their meals were satisfactory. These included chicken pot pie, roast beef, classic hamburger. One general complaint I had at this and other Cracker Barrel restaurants is, if you want their classic southern fried chicken platter you must accept the chicken pieces that come with it. There is no choice if you want to substitute pieces. I, personally, don't like the breast and asked to substitute a thigh or a drumstick for the breast. The waitress said no so I asked for a manager and, he too, said that it was their policy to only offer a thigh, breast, drumstick and a wing and that no substitutions would be allowed. For this reason I declined the fried chicken and opted for the country fried steak when what I really wanted was fried chicken. I believe this policy is unnecessarily rigid and would affect my restaurant choice in the future if I had a hankering for fried chicken. In all fairness I must say that we came late and were the last ones out of the restaurant at 10:25 PM. This may explain the luke warm fried okra and the soggy salad but I expect quality to remain stellar until the last minute. After all, they don't discount the food price even if you arrive late. In summary, I think the food is generally good at most Cracker Barrels I have eaten at. I just think that they could have done better on the night we were there. read more

Been here several times and just never did a review well, here it is. Came in and was greeted with a happy, smiling face. Was seated immediately. Kiddos to the hostess that took in consideration that I'm walking with a cane and got us a close seat, not too far to walk. The place is pretty busy- We was greeted by our waitress and she promptly took our order. I ordered something from DoorDash from them even though I was very close by. I told them some of my food should have been in the bag that I was charged for, and I was treated very rudely even though it would have taken them two minutes to walk it over. They tried to blame it on the Door Dash driver, but they would not even acknowledge their screw up. I would have posted zero stars if I could have. read more

Cracker Barrel is a staple with good ambiance that matches their design. The cornbread and tea are always exceptional. I have visited many Cracker Barrels throughout the U. S. The food is consistent from site to site. The service is the most variable. The Harriman store has always had good service. My last waitress was Alyssa (hope I didn't butcher the name). Her service was exceptional. She kept my glass filled and always smiling and pleasant though she had several tables that were filling rapidly. read more

This is a typical, nice-ish Cracker Barrel which is as good as many, and better than most...with one exception which I shall mention shortly. The waitress was young, keen and very good. The food was the usual Cracker Barrel fare; good, solid, southern country cooking. My wife ordered catfish which she said was excellent. I ordered chicken fried steak and sides of mashed spuds and beans. It all came with freshly made biscuits and corn bread, and the tea and coffee was good. So, what could be wrong? To recap, the food was good, the restaurant was nice, the service was excellent. Not one person, not one - servers, cleaners, greeters, register operators - Not one was wearing a mask. At a time when thousands die daily, and Tennessee manages less than 50% fully vaccinated and the management cares so little about staff and customers that it doesn't ask staff to wear masks. A lot of CB are "Meh" regarding the food, sometimes good, sometimes below par. However, I had no complaints on this place, the food all being very tasty compared to other CBs. And while Alex was attentive and thorough setting up my order and to-go order (well, almost... my second sweet potato is missing), the standout employee was Nick, who was super nice when he came over for a brief chat. I dont think he was a regular server, more like a greeter. He mentioned the beautiful day and liking to see people's smiling faces. When I told him that it wasnt fair that I couldnt see his, he very briefly pulled down the mask and flashed a toothy smile. That smile was the highlight and best ending of my day. We went in on Saturday for an early dinner. We were seated promptly. Drinks were quick and order was taken. I had the special, 2 fried pork chops and my sides were green beans and hash brown casserole. My dinner partner had blueberry pancakes with a side of bacon. This was not my first time eating at this location and it will not be my last. Probably my favorite Cracker Barrel to eat at. I wish I would have got our waitresses name. She was outstanding. When I get awful service, there's two types of managers that show up to my table. Ones that think of the profits first, and ones that think of the customers first. The managers at Cracker Barrel in Harriman are the former. They smile and wait patiently for you to yell at them. To make a scene and make demands before they open their pocketbooks and reduce the price of your meal. That's not my personality. I just can't bring myself to yell at a manager or server. So... instead of a free meal, I'm leaving a bad review. Shame on you for thinking of profits first. Well, it's a Cracker Barrel. Pros: Good location on the interstate. Good southern dishes. Excellent breakfasts. The best part of the meal was the waitress. Liberty was friendly, fast, knowledgeable and seemed to be enjoying her job. She redeemed the entire experience. Cons: Our meals were mostly cold. Gravy was extremely thick, almost like paste. We'd just gotten into town November 3, checked in to the motel, and Cracker Barrel was a few doors down for an easy dinner. The place was packed. But we got a table right away. YIPPEE!! I sat on the end (five of us). I don't remember what everybody got, but I saw a pork chop, fried catfish, fried other fish and meat. I got the turkey 'n dressing special. Skip the dressing. Skip the gravy. Two sides: broccoli; and tomato, onion and cucumber salad. I think I was supposed to get another side, since I passed on the dressing, but I didn't argue the point. The broccoli was cooked beautifully -- itty-bitty pieces. The salad was fine, but brought out on an "I forgot," so it was slopped together with mostly cucumber, one piece of red onion and one piece of tomato (nothing like the composed salad my sister got). The turkey was the driest turkey I've ever had in my whole life. NOW I understand why people put gravy on turkey. And I HATE gravy. Our server was friendly and lovely, considering the crowd. She brought out biscuits and cornbread before the meal came. The plate was heavy on biscuits, so my brother-in-law didn't get the cornbread he ordered. We got fed. This is the only Cracker Barrel that I have visited that makes such a big deal over giving you biscuits with your meals. They act like they are made of Gold. You order a breakfast my and they want to limit the amount you get or they tell you a pancake breakfast doesn't come with biscuits. I am thinking what about the eggs and bacon that I am also getting. The restraint has really went down hill since management change. Obviously it is not workers fault since no other Cracker Barrel has this problem. It's been a while since I have been to Cracker Barrel, but I came with a group and the experience actually exceeded expectations. Most of the items on the menu are "heavy" like their specialty, chicken fried steak and country gravy. But because I recently had stomach surgery, my diet is severely limited. I did have a fresh grilled trout meal for about $11 that was nicely prepared, presented, and tasty. Can't remember what wife had, but I recall she enjoyed it. Group travels to this area once a year and ALWAYS stops here, so we'll be back, for sure. read more

As with any Cracker Barrel, this place is busy. Came in the store , had a short wait to get a table ( as expected ) Waitress's to other tables get coming and going, no one stopped at my table. When hostess seated another table next to mine I asked her to get a waitress for me. When one finally showed up, I had been seated for 8 minutes. I could see the kitchen digital clock fro where I was seated. When I mentioned the extended wait to the waitress her excuse was she was working on a to go order! I don't know how long I would have sat there had I not said something to the hostess. Waitress now has a bad attitude to me. Tough. I told her to relay my concerns to manager. Apparently she did not. He has walked by me a couple of times. When I check out I will leave only a five cent tip. Perhaps that might get someone's attention. I'm usually a very good tipper. But I just hate to be ignored. Only recourse is poor tip and poor review. Poor management in not having proper staffing only hurts the staff , in their pocket via low tips. Apparently the manager is too busy bussing tables. On a positive not, food wasn't to bad. I just cannot understand how a floor waitress is pulled from her tables to put together a to go order in the back. Is it the hostess fault for seating me at a table with no waitress? Who knows. Manager never made the effort to explain anything to me. Waitress has come back to table wanting to comp my check. Went to hostess to request a hostess, result, she and another hostess stood there pointing at us and laughing. Server comes to table, nice enough she was. Placed order, 27 minutes later food arrives. WRONG order! Corrects order, still wrong. Asked for manager, many apologies to avoid us talking to manager. Finally manager arrives. Tell him up front I do not want a refund. He never really admits to issues, keeps trying to comp the meal. I tell him, I don't want a free meal, I want service. Finally had to tell him to put the check back on the table and just know we would not ever be back at that location. Had a wonderful experience at Cracker Barrel tonight. We came in cold, tired, hungry, and a bit angry at the world. When we left, our bellies and our hearts were full. Bellies: full of good food. Hearts: full of hope for humanity. Very kind people work here. Nathan was a wonderful server. We were even given advice about driving the Plateau in the rain from a lovely man in the shop.
