Friday Fish Dry (cid) with steak fries and collard greens
    Eugenia H.

When I pulled up to park, I saw a tour bus, so I knew it would be busy this Friday. I only waited fifteen minutes for a table. Nevertheless, Shakira provided excellent, friendly service, and the Friday fish fry special is always a welcome treat. I heard some Cracker Barrel Stores are remodeling without the general country store vibe. If that's the case, it's not the Cracker Barrel we know and love.

After a long day of travel, we stopped in for some comfort food and were happy to be seated promptly. We all know that it often takes a while to get a table, and it's usually worth the wait. The hostess seated us at a table by the window, per our request and we waited for our server to come and get our drink order. We watched, as they seated two tables after us, get their drink orders. We were still waiting to be acknowledged. There were several different servers coming in and out of the kitchen looking in our direction, but still we waited. Finally, the hostess walked by, and we figured we would get served. NOPE! At this point, we had had enough and got up to leave. Seeing we were leaving, the hostess and server snickered and ducked into the kitchen without a word or an apology. And that will be the last time I ever see the inside of a Cracker Barrel.

First of all, I am a little biased, as I enjoy Cracker Barrel. Monday afternoon, late lunch. I started with a side salad. It was very good. It taste fresh. For my lunch I had the southern grilled chicken. The chicken was a little undercooked, and the vegetables, or a little overcooked. But the service was good, and I did enjoy my lunch.

Came here Monday morning.... I was looking forward to coming back here but was disappointed with the service & food. The place was extremely crowded for a Monday morning. We ordered our food & drinks. Waitress brought the drinks - coffee, orange juice, half & half for drinks. Didn't see her again for another 47 minutes. Keep in mind, my mother ordered a coffee. Waitress didn't even come back to the table to ask if we needed a refill or even to inform us they were short staffed in the kitchen. Entrees: #1: Ordered 3 eggs scrambled hard with American cheese, bacon, fried catfish & cheese grits. Eggs were cold, not scrambled & not fully cooked. Cheese grits were cold and soupy. Fried catfish & bacon was the only good thing on the plate. #2: ordered 2 scrambled eggs, sausage patty and wheat toast. Eggs weren't scrambled and they had cheese. Waitress did ask and was told no cheese. Food was cold. Toast was the only thing she liked. #3: ordered 2 scrambled eggs with American cheese , sausage patty & pancakes. Eggs were cold. Pancakes were the only good thing on the plate. Looks like I won't be visiting y'all again.

Attitude of waitress has ruined the potential dining experience. I wasn't prepared for the limited menu.

Good home style country cooking. Prices have gone up in recent years, but quality remains consistent. Our waitress was slow at this particular store, but that may be because of a long night spent celebrating 7/4. Do spend some time checking out their store to see some great inspirational messages hidden in plain sight; it's good for the soul.

Friends, we stopped in for dinner last evening at Cracker Barrel in Harrisburg. My wife and I ordered the special. Thursday's special was sliced turkey, sweet potatoes and stuffing. While the menu picture lured us in, take a look at the plate presentation that came out. This has the eye appeal of a Nursing home thanksgiving dinner! The turkey tasted great, but the sweet potatoes had the consistency of a thin milkshake with a few lumps. Then we have the stuffing, these were like dry cubes with their only salvation being the gravy. I mentioned how terrible the stuffing tasted and the consistency of the sweet potatoes. Our server mentioned that she didn't care for the stuffing either. When I paid the bill the clerk asked how my dinner was. I told him it was terrible and it was the worst that I've ever had a Cracker Barrel. He apologized and continued to take my money. This is not the Cracker Barrel of years ago, this is a chain that's lost its direction. I hesitate leaving comments like this, but this is the fourth time, at different locations that I've had a bad experience, and no one really cared to address it.. BTW: the server was just an innocent bystander in this mess, I think she needed her job too much to complain. We tipped her well!

I come here mostly with my mom bc she loves it. I have to say that i have never had a bad meal here. It's got a cute, cozy county feel and the fireplace adds a nice touch. The servers are always friendly and super attentive when we have our littles in tow. We have gotten food to go at my job and the orders are always correct and packaged very well. They even remember free add-ons that a coworker requested such as honey, butter & pickle ranch. Overall it's a pretty good value. Having the option of breakfast all day is also a plus. I'm partial to the fried chicken sandwiches. Mmm!

Food was cold and not very good. Cracker Barrel food is getting worse every time we go. Use to be a great place to stop over when we are on the road, not anymore. The waitress Amira was wonderful

I can see this being a much bigger draw in summer when the area is active and people are looking for an easy place to eat and drink. The food was good, service was reasonably quick, and the restaurant was clean. It was not very busy when we were there, but the layout felt like it could get cramped and difficult to navigate when the place is crowded. I do not know the origins of the restaurant, but it has that dropped in feel, like something that would fit just as easily near an outlet mall. It is a straightforward American bar and grill type stop. Nothing was wrong with it, but nothing stood out either. If the sports bar vibe is your thing, you will probably enjoy it. For me, it is the kind of place I might return to, but mainly because it is convenient, not because it is memorable.

The setup gets weird once the back tables are filled because it's tougher to get to the bathroom. Service was okay. Had to wait for a drink refill and then once the check was paid, never came back again. Which I can understand not asking if you need anything every 5 minutes, but one more drink check would've been nice. Food is basic bar food. My wrap was filled nicely though. Their ranch is solid but on the runnier side. Onion rings were good but the second my plate came out I could see the pool of grease on my plate. Maybe let the onion rings drip a little more before you put them on the plate. Chips that come with the sandwiches are basic kettle cooked, not fresh. $3 to upgrade to fries, sweet potato fries, or onion rings.

The kitchen sink breakfast and strawberry ricotta pancakes are highly recommended after a weekend outdoors. My group of eight dined out on the patio for Sunday brunch on a beautiful day. We had two dogs with us as we were rounding out a camping trip in nearby Halifax, and the staff was more than accommodating by bringing out a bowl of water for them. The restaurant itself is a sprawling campus featuring beautiful vintage architecture inside the main building, alongside a modernized covered patio for comfortable outdoor dining all year round. Service was excellent throughout our meal. We made these reservations a few weeks in advance for such a large party with animals, and they were completely ready for us when we arrived. The food was above average and exactly what I have come to expect from slightly upscale American brunch spots. I opted for the kitchen sink breakfast, which is rightfully named since it includes eggs, a thick slice of country ham, biscuit and gravy, and home fried potatoes. Everything was well prepared and really hit the spot after being outside for a few days of camping. I also split an order of the strawberry ricotta pancakes with my wife and was very impressed. I am not usually one to eat pancakes, but these were incredibly light and fluffy. The ricotta complimented the strawberries well, making the dish taste very similar to a strawberry shortcake. Overall, this is a solid brunch spot with great ambiance that I can highly recommend if you are in the Harrisburg area.

Knowing Father's Day would probably be busy, I decided to do my homework ahead of time. Before we even left the house, I used First Watch's online "Check In" feature to get our name on the list while we were driving there. The website estimated a 10 to 20 minute wait and instructed us to let the hostess know when we arrived. Perfect! Or so I thought... About 15 minutes later, we walked through the doors...into absolute chaos. The lobby was PACKED with people waiting for tables despite the fact that roughly half the dining room appeared to be sitting empty. I squeezed my way through the crowd, made it to the hostess stand, gave her my name and mentioned that I'd already checked in online. "Great," she said. "It'll be 20 to 25 minutes." Wait...what? So the online check-in that said we'd be waiting 10 to 20 minutes...didn't actually accomplish anything? If I'd known we'd still be waiting another half hour after arriving, we honestly would have chosen somewhere else that accepted reservations or true call-ahead seating. The online check-in created expectations that simply weren't met. About 20 minutes later, we were finally seated. Unfortunately, things didn't improve. We sat for another 15 minutes before our waitress stopped by to take drink orders. We decided to order all of our food immediately because we weren't confident we'd see her again anytime soon. Good decision! The coffee arrived fairly quickly. The water...tap water, not fancy water, not bottled water, not water that required any preparation other than being put into a glass bottle and carried to the table, showed up about 10 minutes later. Here's what we ordered: Million Dollar Bacon ($6.29) - four slices of hardwood-smoked bacon glazed with brown sugar, black pepper, cayenne and syrup. This was absolutely phenomenal! If nothing else, order this (or learn to make it at home so you can avoid an excessive wait at First Watch to eat it). Sweet, smoky, just enough heat...this absolutely lived up to the hype! Power Wrap ($11.49) - egg whites, turkey, spinach, mushrooms and mozzarella in a sun-dried tomato basil tortilla with fresh fruit. The wrap itself was really good. The fruit was a mixed bag. The grapes were great, but the pineapple was still hard and noticeably underripe. At this point in the meal, I wasn't surprised and definitely wasn't going to try to get it fixed. Lemon Ricotta Pancakes ($13.29) - these were also really good. The lemon curd completely stole the show and made the pancakes. The menu advertised seasonal berries, which turned out to be strawberries. They were perfectly fine, though I probably would have expected blueberries this time of year. The Works Omelet (FREE BECAUSE THE ORDER WAS NOT CORRECT) - this was my stepdad's Father's Day breakfast. He ordered it WITHOUT onions. It arrived with EXTRA onions. By that point, our waitress had disappeared again, so rather than wait another 20 minutes for a remake, I flagged down another employee near the kitchen. I explained that we'd waited long enough already and simply wanted the omelet removed from the bill instead of remade. To their credit, they handled that professionally and removed it without any argument. While I had someone's attention, I also requested plates for the Million Dollar Bacon appetizer that had been sitting on our table for about 15 minutes and asked if my mom's meal could please be brought out since everyone else's food had already arrived quite a while earlier. Our final bill came to just over $44 after tax and tip. Even after everything that happened, I still left our waitress a 25% tip. It was Father's Day, the restaurant was clearly overwhelmed, and I try to assume people are doing the best they can with what they've got. That said...it was obvious something wasn't working. Whether they were understaffed, overwhelmed by the Father's Day crowd, or simply having an off day, the entire experience felt disorganized from beginning to end. The online check-in wasn't accurate, service was painfully slow, food came out at different times, one meal was prepared incorrectly, and our server disappeared for long stretches throughout the meal. Ironically, the food itself was actually pretty good. If I were reviewing only the Million Dollar Bacon, it would easily earn five stars. Unfortunately, restaurants are more than just food. For me, the overall experience matters just as much. There are simply too many excellent local breakfast and brunch spots to justify returning after an experience like this. I'm glad my stepdad's omelet was removed from the bill, and I appreciate that the staff made that right, but I left more frustrated than impressed. First Watch may have just had a really bad Father's Day. But based on my first experience, I don't think I'll be back to find out.

The Review: Men in the Kitchen…read more My reviews are different. I do not announce myself or tell anyone. I am here to do a review!! It was a rainy Sunday, and I was working up a hunger while driving Uber for content. I went to three different spots before I finally found the place I should've gone to first. The food and atmosphere at this restaurant are so good that I want to find another establishment just like it, but so far--at least on this day--nothing in the area can beat it. I don't know why I treat this restaurant like a good wife that a man might constantly cheat on but always returns to. I'm not saying that I actually cheat; I'm just using that for context! So, I found myself once again at Two Men in the Kitchen. Since it was Easter Sunday, they offered a buffet or a special limited menu. There was fish and chicken wings available, and I chose the wings. Since I don't eat meat often, I asked for their "House Sauce," and it is by far amazing. I paired the wings with the 3-cheese baked mac & cheese and sweet potatoes. I went for the sides first because I wanted to save the best for last--I already knew that house sauce was going to be incredible, especially on the chicken and greens eggrolls they have. The mac & cheese was great; it had a crunchy outside yet remained soft in the middle, and the cheese pull was amazing. The sweet potatoes were definitely homemade; I could tell because every slice was a different cut, which I appreciate because it proves they didn't come out of a can. Now for the best part: the chicken wings. They were cooked perfectly--neither overdone nor underdone, with no pink on the inside. Everything was pure. I did happen to taste a little bit of Old Bay on the wings, so I asked the chef if that was part of the secret seasoning. He said no, so maybe someone slipped some in by accident, but it didn't stop me from indulging. I also ordered one of their house special drinks--a Hennessy and rum cocktail. It was a very pretty drink, but unfortunately, I am not a fan of Hennessy. Personally, I think it tastes like house keys or licking a brass knob when you're a kid. On my scale, the drink was a 2 out of 5; I just don't think rum and cognac should mix, but that's just my opinion. The atmosphere was amazing and the bathrooms were clean. I will definitely visit this place again and again, although sometimes it is hard to tell if they are open because of the heavily tinted windows. For those who know the area, this is the old firehouse in Harrisburg. I was told that on the weekends, they clear some tables to create a dance floor, which is a nice touch. There is plenty of bar seating and booths, making it a kid-friendly environment. The only thing I don't like--which applies to every restaurant on 2nd Street--is that it's very hard to find parking. The Scale * Location & Parking: (3/5) * Staff & Engagement: (4/5) * Food Consistency: (4.7/5)

You have to do it online, via text, and it won't allow you to purchase any time less than an hour. Kinda sucks for those carrying out. Totally not the restaurant's fault though. I got the jerk quesadilla without the jerk ranch sauce. They don't serve this or their regular quesadilla with salsa or pica de gallo so it does taste a little bland. The jerk flavor isn't coming thru for me. It's a little disappointing but it's also just a quesadilla so I don't expect much. I'm not deterred though. I'd be interested in trying more on the menu. It seemed like a cozy place to sit and eat. I'd also like to eat there on my next visit. I'll update my review when I do.
