This place had the highest rating in this area full of hotels. It has a "general store" with nicknacks and candy and then the restaurant. The food was really yummy. Comfort food for sure so not flavour city but the chicken was cooked perfectly, the portions were huge and it was fun to try these dumplins. They were basically made of egg, flour and salt and then covered in chicken gravy. So great for a -21 night haha. Really extensive menu and breakfast is served all day. Our server was not at all helpful. It seemed like she hated our job. She dropped off the check at one point but no one noticed then when we asked for it she was a rude about how it had been there forever. We quickly got a card out and it took another 15-20 minutes for her to come over and tell us we have to pay at the front. Would have been great for her to mention it when she dropped the bill. We stopped on the way to the covered bridge festival for brunch. It was busy, and there was a 30 to 40 minute wait . We got seated in about 35 minutes. I opted for the egg and cheese sandwich. It had fresh tomatoes, hard fried eggs and American cheese on toast. I also got a side of hash brown casserole and asked that they make it crispy, but I think they forgot. It was delicious anyway. Cracker Barrel has been my favorite chain breakfast restaurant for years. Whenever I'm on a road trip, I have to stop here at least once for a breakfast. But they just got even better.... CRACKER BARREL SERVES ALCOHOL NOW. THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!! You can drink sangria, mimosas, or beer while smashing on their heavenly pancakes and inhaling their hashbrown casserole. This is a long time dream come true for me. I said that they need to start doing this years ago. Foodwise, you can't go wrong with anything on their menu. It really tastes like home cookin' My most recent visit was very busy. We were quoted about 40 minutes though it only took 25. We shopped around while we waited and found a few things to buy for Christmas presents! Once we were seated, we had Laura J as a server. Although she was busy, she was super friendly and took fabulous care of us!! I had chicken and dumplings and my spouse had their grandmas fried turkey special. This came with pancakes with some type of orange cranberry butter... OMG. It was so freaking amazing, im trying to figure out the recipe!! Cracker Barrel Customers - Just a heads up Me and my wife visited the Plainfield Indiana Cracker Barrel last evening between 5:00pm and 6:30pm. Handicap parking, sidewalk and porch were free of snow and ice. Sign on entry door stated they would be closing at 6:00pm. That was wise and acceptable with the existing snowfall. Kudos for being open and to the employees who were present. However, once we entered the restaurant until we left, the experience was a one or two out of a possible ten. There were three servers, one bus boy and two men who were management most likely. We had never seen any of these people previously in the many years we have visited this location. Upon entering, there was no one at the registers or the hostess desk. After being seated and our food order placed, we experienced our longest wait ever. Only half of the restaurant was open and the wait time for everyone was excessive. Perhaps, only one person in the kitchen. We ordered two bowls of pinto beans with onion and relish, Chalua hot sauce, two orders of slaw and corn muffins. Received the beans from a different server. I asked for the missing items including spoons and napkins. Waited and asked a third server, waited and original server finally brought our slaw, one relish and petrified corn muffins. I asked again for spoons, napkins, onions and another relish. Never received any of it. Ate the pinto beans with a fork and used a knife to break the corn muffins apart keeping them from being served again. Slaw was good and pinto beans could have been with the usual onion and relish. No one at register when checking out but manager? came out after very brief wait and asked if evertything was ok. I stated it was our worst service and experience ever at a Cracker Barrel. He said he was sorry. I paid the bill and informed him I would be giving them a very bad review. That will follow on TripAdvisor and Yelp. Stopped in on my way home from an early morning of taking the family out for errands, just like how I remember visiting when I was younger the old time store was loaded with a wide variety of great items or gifts for anyone. We were seated immediately which was great for my two younger kids who were a bit pent up from being in the car. Our server was very quick, kind and professional, I just wish I could remember her name to give her a proper shout out, and the food was absolutely great as I remember, portions were heartier and for a great bargain. Always had wonderful meals at this restaurant. Unfortunately today at the Plainfield IN restaurant NOT so much. Honey & I both were surprised with the consistency of the sausage gravy on this visit. It was runny like water. The grits also lacked the firmness of any grit normal folks are accustomed in consuming. They had a yellow tint to them which we assumed was due to butter/margarine. To be as blunt as possible...thank God we were aware of electrolytes & how the body works. The BRAT diet was used this afternoon to offset the yuckiness we felt an hour later. BRAT: bananas, rice, applesauce, & toast cured us both. I sure hope this place reconsiders that watering down certain foods or supplementing a tit for tat might seem appropriate but will only have ppl avoid an unpleasant experience. Gave it a one only because I wasn't poisened. Got a takeout Thursday special of turkey. The wait was about 30 min. could not notify the restaurant that i arrived because no one answered the phone and the tech wouldn/t go through. When I looked at the food I couldn't beleive it. the gravy was a congealed yellowish green and the stuffing (dressing) looked as if it was the last pit in the pan as it was dry and burnt in places. We then had to wait for the waitress to come take our drink orders. After getting our order taken it took over 45 minutes to get our food. My order was not correct, which is my regular order. I asked for a manager. The manager argued that I was wrong and stood behind asking me what else what else repeatedly. Had to ask twice for clean silverware. As much as I like the food I will not recommend having their food delivered. Twice I ordered food from them and both times it was cold when I got it. The first time it was over two hours from when I ordered my food to when I got it. The next time they didn't put any silverware or butter for the biscuits with it. It's a very LONG STORY , but to simplify it, a male employee who is either a dish washer/table cleaner. Caught him in the act of LEERING at my 4 year old granddaughter. Told our waitress who told the mgr on duty and his solution was "he isn't allowed back in dining room" really, that's your answer . At least 4 waitresses came to our table to tell us this guy has made them feel uncomfortable and has made lewd comments to them . There are minors working here and at least 2 of the waitresses who spoke with us said they were 17. I had to summon the mgr to come speak with us , he was being a coward and trying to avoid addressing this nightmare. He apologized and said "it's being handled" I told him you are going to have lawsuits on your hands because of this creep. I told him this wasn't over by any means . Plainfield PD was notified and officer referred it to the child crimes unit . After 20 times of trying or so I finally got someone from corporate to call me back . Absolutely NO ONE would call me back , I remained diligent and just started calling anyone and everyone at the corp office . Lady in their "risk management" dept called me back and I told the ENTIRE story . Was out $125 and we were celebrating a family event that evening and it turned so ugly. They did refund my money, we will NEVER be patrons of the Plainfield Indiana store . I told the risk mgt person they are going to have lawsuits on their hands if they don't address this immediately. She assured me they will thoroughly investigate. Had a mother of a young waitress that works there private message me to tell me that this guy makes her daughter uncomfortable and others have complained to the mgt there and NO ONE seems to care . We usually visit mom and pop places for breakfast, but we decided to come to Cracker Barrel. It's been awhile... and I don't think we be returning. The store is great. A lot of unique items to shop while waiting for seating. I ordered the "Uncle" breakfast. My husband ordered "Grandma". My food came out wrong. My husband's country fried steak looked like it was under a heat lamp for awhile. It just wasn't great and not worth the time it took to get a seat. Excellent location and friendly and great service! Cracker Barrel is one restaurant where you can count on the menu being consistent wherever you travel in the states. They have excellent healthy alternatives to the regular pancake house or even traditional big chain restaurants. For example you can order baked sweet potatoes with real buttter (no need for brown sugar and candied pecans)! They have lemon pepper grilled (I think) trout as an alternative to chicken fried anything. Also, they have delicious Turkey sausage and can leave the pork for those for religious reasons or health. I watched the staff sanitize the sections after each table was cleared of customers. Very thorough. When you a stuck in the middle of nowhere for business or passing through, I highly suggest the Cracker Barrel location. This location was very clean and our waitress was top notch. Stopped by with a group of 10 on Sunday around 10:30 AM for a brunch. Four of us ordered their new "Mimosas". When they were served, the glasses were only half full, and they gave each of us a small bottle of sparkling wine to pour in. Okay. I'm down with that....except, every single person's bottle was all but empty. I swear that there was only about 2 Tablespoons of wine in each bottle. We all dribbled the little bit into our glasses and still had had full drinks, with no alcohol. For 6 bucks each, that is total crap Cracker Barrel. I would understand if just one person's was accidentally almost empty, but with four us all having the same, it was certainly intentional. When the food came, my "Medium Eggs" were totally cooked through (no runny yolk at all) and rubbery, and the gravy had no sausage in it and was like paste. Yuck, yuck, yuck. Everything about this meal was just terrible. Have eaten at Cracker Barrel's around the Country for decades and NEVER seen anything this bad. If you've been to one Cracker Barrel, you've seen all I've visited. The menus, dining rooms, fireplace and gift shop are the same. There is some comfort in that since you always know what to expect. The restrooms are usually clean and we pop in when traveling and take a minute to shop and stretch. We were seated after a 10 minute wait which was terrific considering the number of folks there. Just enough time to start browsing the gift shop area. Our server was friendly and a fairly new server. She made us a little nervous as she didn't seem clear or confident with our order. We repeated all back to her just to confirm it was correct. I know she should have but when she didn't I worried it was incorrect and it was. Once corrected, we were relaxed to enjoy our coffee. Both of our breakfast was good. Eggs cooked properly, gravy and biscuits as usual, pancakes were hot and our drinks remained filled by our server and several others. Service usually makes or breaks our visits to Cracker Barrel. We have left here having the best service or mediocre service. Today was okay but a little rocky. In my experience, there's really not much variety from different locations. I can say, though, that I've never experienced poor service at the Plainfield location and the food is always up to par. Inconsistent. We have been here twice in the last two days (long story). The first time, we got a very new server who didn't know the menu, how to write down orders, or anything else for that matter. They definitely should have had him shadowing someone. He stated it was his first day, so we gave him a big break. I ordered the Uncle Herschel's breakfast with catfish and my eggs over-easy for both of my meals. Day 1: Our server had to come back four times just to get my order right. I ended up with two eggs over hard, no jam/jelly for my biscuits, and a very over-cooked piece of catfish. My husband's chicken was also just hammered and dry. We felt so badly for him. We didn't send anything back because we didn't think it would do any good, and also because he didn't come back and check on us in a timely manner. Day 2: MUCH better server/service. I was served eggs that were scrambled, BUT she caught this as she brought them out, and I received my over-easy eggs a short time later. Whew! Our server was very attentive even though they were busy. She brought us extra biscuits to go and gave us to-go drinks. This place is getting three stars from me for now.
